Went for dinner with my partner to try the banquet special, food was really nice. Couldn't complain at all and will definitely be making it out go to Indian in Bedale

Owner or member of staff smoking infront of doorway and had their closed sign turned, even though they were open. Him and all the smoke seemed to prevent us from entering the restaurant, as he was stand-offish, unfriendly and didn't seem to want our custom. We would always go to this restaurant when visiting Bedale. Frankly, his demeanour was almost scary and just wanted to leave. Our respect for him and his restaurant went up in his puff of cigarette smoke. Not going back there

Bland, tasteless, watery food. Will definitely not be coming back. We’ve tried this takeaway twice now as our favourite Indian is unfortunately closed at the moment and really wish we hadn’t bothered. The poppadoms were stale, the korma was watery and tasteless and the lamb jalfrezi was bland. I ordered a garlic chilli chicken which was ok but they forgot to include it in the original order so we had to drive back to Bedale to collect it. No apology at all!! This is the second time they’ve missed items from the order, last time they forgot the onion bhajis and the side dishes. And they insist you pay in cash!!!

Takeaway. As locals of Bedale it is sad to say that there are no Indian restaurants we will go to anymore. This is the 3rd time and the last time. Over the past 2 times of calling struggled to get through and then when we had got through the person same person that is, was rude short and not customer service friendly whatsoever. Hung up on me after giving me roughly how long it would be. The 3rd time- last night I tried for 20 minutes to answer the phone but they did not so I went up an ordered it in the restaurant itself. I was told it be 45 minutes. So 45 minutes later I went back to the restaurant to pick my order in and pay for it. It was not ready and I was stood - along with 3 other takeaway customers in the middle of the restaurant waiting for my food which actually didn't come about for another 25 minutes later! Food was tasteless, give it warm, bit bland. I had afghan chicken and mushroom rice, my partner had chicken tikka jalfrezi with a coconut naan. Which was absolutely vile wet warm yellow looking sludge in the middle of it and not remotely edible. As to say we have tried this place 3 times now and no more. Also, it cost us £28 odd and ways overpriced for the service, quality of food, taste etc. Don't go.

Doesn’t open at 6pm and were quite rude when (at 6.15pm) we tried to ask when they would open. Bit of a let-down given that none of the Indian restaurants seemed to be open in Bedale.

Called to place an order, I get it, it’s busy as Friday night and the usual place we use is closed so we have all done the same thing and called this restaurant. I will NEVER call again! RUDE person answered phone and has the audacity to say he didn’t have time to answer my query about allergens for my husband when he answered and wouldn’t help me. He happily took my order with no clarity! No wonder takeaways end up in court as he would not listen to my query and could have poisoned my husband. Called back to cancel the order and he hung up on me!! DONT do it people!! Vile man.

Under new management and it was a fatastic night will definitely be going again food was lovely

Beautiful food Strange when we arrived there were only two tables taken, he showed us to ours and then another couple came in but he said they were fully booked! We enjoyed the food it was gorgeous and would go again. Nice host.

Ordered online from their website. Order was accepted. Was due to be collected at 6.35pm. Set off in my car at about 6.10pm. Upon arrival, there was a message from the restaurant at 6.18pm that they were closed and order cancelled. To my surprise, the restaurant was open. I enquired as to why my order had been cancelled and was told that they were not accepting online orders and my money would be refunded. No apology was offered and the person was very offhand. DON'T ORDER ONLINE!

Very poor service. Not made welcome at all. Food was okay but atmosphere and waiter service terrible.

So we ordered a lamb jalfrezi and a gobi (cauliflower) special today as takeaways. On pickup no one in the place was wearing face masks (staff or customers at the desk). The jalfrezi had chillies in the sauce but the sauce had absolutely no flavour whatsoever. On the plus side the lamb was tender - something of a rarity in curry houses. The gobi special was definitely special in that there was hardly any gobi in it at all and what there was was overcooked.

2 of us wandered in on a Sunday evening for a sit-down meal. Hadn't booked... Of the 3 curry houses in Bedale, this looks the most unassuming. Don't be deceived or put off by that - we found the food to be excellent. Starter: sharing platter for 2. Arrived sizzling & tasted great. Freshly cooked & plenty of it. Mains were of similarly high quality, tasting great & also seemed to be freshly cooked. Of the 3 curries we had on our recent holiday, this restaurant served the best meat to sauce ratio. 😊 Another bonus was the price: having paid £50+ for similar menu choices earlier in my holiday, & though that to be "ok" value-wise, our bill here came to sub-£40, & tasted even better. Result! Just need to find an excuse to go back there...

Arrived with the family late, The Taste of India next door was heaving! Quiet and Relaxing. Food came fast, Manager abrupt but very helpful. Very nice authentic Indian...no fuss!

I heartily enjoy the food from this establishment and was willing to wait 40 minutes for my order to be ready. So I drove the couple of miles to pick up my order and paid on arrival to be told they were really busy and behind and would I mind waiting for my order. I’ve waited over 70 minutes already. We have just had butter chicken and chicken korma with onion bhajis and samosas which they added some for free , all were delicious , and well cooked and well worth it , , service was excellent ,and I will definitely recommend this restaurant ,/ take away and will definitely be going back again 😋😋💯

11 of us (six adults, five children) visited Saturday 12/09/20 - we hadn't booked - the food was excellent, hot and tasty and met our various needs (gluten free, vegan, pescatarian). VERY reasonable price too. Would definitely recommend.

Expensive as a takeaway, but no more expensive than everything else in the immediate area. Good grub though and always a polite and professional service.

Staying overnight nearby we found this restaurant 8 there with no need to book in advance this turned out to be the best Bengali food we've ever had and we highly recommend it to you extremely good value for money excellent company nice staff

Ordered takeaway main course chicken kashmiri. Round trip of 12 miles opened the container could not tell what it was spinach bit of raw tomato little bit of egg couple of pieces tikka chicken. Certainly not kashmiri. My advice always check wish I had. Rang restaurant their mistake they were sorry.

One of the best Indian takeaways we've had for a long time. Succulent pieces of chicken in a great sauce in all three dishes we ordered. Great to have a spicy meal without blowing your head off. Close to what we've had in India.

Ok I have seen the bad reviews and we all have our opinion, so here is mine. This is a great place to go and get good Indian cuisine. The staff are very accommodating and the service is great. I have had take aways and sat in and i really can not fault the place. It does get so busy so the level of service and quality of food in always consistently good

Competition is strong with two other Indian restaurants nearby, but the prices are reasonable and the food tasty and plentiful. The surroundings are basic but it is clean and comfortable. We had two courses which were freshly prepared and tasted great. Lots of parking available immediately outside on an evening. My only suggestion would be the inclusion of non-alcoholic beers/lagers. A large television plays Bollywood musicals constantly, which may be intrusive to some people, although we found it added to the experience. Staff are smartly turned out and courteous.

We have been coming here for 3 years and used to really enjoy it. However over the last few months it has gone down hill. It has definitely changed owners and the customer service has declined. Very slow at taking orders and bring out of food, whilst takeaway after takeaway leaves the kitchen. The peppers on one of our dishes was burnt and I refused to pay for it. This will be our last visit here, a shame as we have had many nice meals here but won't continue to pay for declining service.

We were visiting the area & went in for an early evening meal. The service started well, we got drinks & poppadums quickly & they were lovely. We shared a starter which was also very good but waited a little. There was then a significant wait while we noticed dozens of take aways being brought out. In the end we had to ask where our main course was. The waiters were pleasant but looked a little uncomfortable as we weren't the only customers having a long wait. When the main arrived the rice was good but the meat in each of the curries was over cooked. We paid, didn't leave a tip (which is unusual for us) & left. Overall it was disappointing.

Don’t let the fact that this restaurant isn’t packed put you off. It’s a small restaurant but you won’t be disappointed. Dishes are freshly cooked, friendly service and excellent food. I have to say the nicest Chicken Balti I’ve had to date. We will be back

So despite my negative review last month- we went back this evening and normal service & food quality had resumed! Lovely meal! We will be back in a few weeks when we visit from Essex.

Only gets 1 star as its minimum, awful experience. Up on holiday visiting family, have been going there for 15yr +, last visit ever, fish and chips next time. Food took ages, meat tough, veg raw, waiter on sleeping tablets, never have I had such a bad experience, seems like they didn't even care, when I mentioned the above, it went over his head although he did reduce the bill by £4, paid the remainder of £90+. Absolute joke.....must be nice to be able to rest on your laurels as for a small town like Bedale to have 3 Indian restaurant's as if I owned it I would be worried..👎

We ordered 3 different curries along with rice and keema naans, all 3 of the curries were very greasy and lacking in flavour, the naans all fell apart as they were very thin. All in all a terrible meal and I would not visit again. 👎

Always enjoyed eating here over many years and on trips to Bedale. Great value and whenever we are inside it has a healthy amount of locals collecting take out which does not surprise me. Ok not high end but my wife and I have never tried the curry house a few doors away which may be very good but sticking with Spice of Bengal which so far has not disappointed us😊

After driving from Northallerton to order our Indian, we were very disappointed with both our meals. This is a fairly regular occurrence of visiting this Indian, however we felt like standards had dropped. The chicken in both dishes was a strange colour and the texture was not pleasant. The food overall was not up to usual expectations. The staff who served us were very friendly, however were not the regular staff which are normally there. This led us to believe that this business could have possibly changed hands. Sadly our experience wasn't as good as expected :(

Initially went to the Indian next door but it was fully booked so wandered down to this one instead. The waiter was really friendly age nice. The food was ok, won’t lie it wasn’t the best we have had but also wasn’t the worse so wont complain. Some of it was just a bit bland and oily but the service was really good. The drinks were quite expensive and not a lot of choice really. The bill came to £160 for 6 of us including drinks.

We recently visited Bedale for a glamping break with the family, but having arrived quite late on the Friday we decided to eat out.With three Indian restaurants close by we chose the one we were parked closest to, and we were really pleased we did. We’re still talking about this meal 3 days later! It was so delicious and enjoyed by adults and children alike. Special mention must be made to the nan bread which was truly beautiful! Kids wolfed it down and we wished we’d ordered another dish. Curries, rice and sides were all fantastic. We will definitely visit the area and again and will return to this restaurant.Staff member was also really friendly and happy to chat.

Ordered a takeaway as a treat.The onion bhajis were inedible (overcooked) threw them out.Ordered lamb biryani ,lamb was chewy ,the prawn afagani was very good.I felt it had been prepared and left sitting as I ordered it when they opened to be collected in a few hours.I won't try again.

Called here on the off chance on a Saturday evening. 3 curry houses near together. We just chose this one. Glad we did. Beautiful delicious food. Reasonable price. Quick service but not rushed.

Read all the reviews, looked at the menu, no point going anywhere else really. Lived up to expectation and beyond, excellent food & staff really friendly. Thursdays and Sundays is the best deal when you get poppadoms, pickle tray, starter, main, rice & side dish plus free drink with main course for £10.50. Would recommend the Gosht Pata & Karachi Flavour.

We were staying nearby and decided to give this restaurant a try. We were glad we did, it was a Saturday evening and we were the only diners in the restaurant although they seemed busy with takeaway orders.

We had a fantastic meal - beautifully cooked with fresh ingredients. The service was also very good. What was amazing was the price as my meal of popadoms, bhajis, naan bread,side dish of tarka dhal and main meal of prawn dansak plus a bottle of Cobra was £10.50 as part of their Sunday special deal!! I can't recommend highly enough.

Hemos ido a este restaurante dos veces y en ambas ocasiones la comida era increíble. La primera mi esposa yo y dos hijas de 8 y 4 años. Nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos y sentado en el bonito restaurante limpio. Cuando ordene mi esposa y yo decidimos que debería probar algo diferente, así que el dueño nos ayudó a recoger los platos que acaba de ser añadido al menú. Este no me decepcionó, ya que era la mejor comida India que hemos comido. Durante la comida, el dueño puso una película de Bollywood y mi hija nos levantamos a bailar y lo pasamos genial. La comida era excelente y muy razonable. El personal era fantástico y hicieron una gran noche en familia.

Happy hour menu was great value with plenty of choice. The food was great and the staff were very helpful.

although this is only a small restaurant/take away we had a lovely meal hubby said its one of the best mixed kebab starters he has ever had although they had a large party of about 15 coming in they still managed to find us a table friendly staff and good prices 10 out of 10

really good friendly service . we went with another couple who had never been before and were really pleased. it was a pity that there was only another couple there. It is far superior to the SPICE restaurant opposite which tries to be upmarket but lacks the staff to be efficient and do not have the training. Also parking outside makes it very easy as opposed to the Spice which does not have parking immediately at the door

Ate here on 31st July and it was a great experience. Group if foyr of us and we had the £9.95 special banquet deal which is on Sundays and Thursday only so make note. What a great deal. You can choose ANY starter, main, rice / naan and side (side for 2) and a poppadom and pickles each at beginning. What a deal!! Service great, food great, excellent quality and lots of it. They'll even let you change it slightly for the same price. A fantastic night with brilliant food and great service. Get yourselves down there.

Restaurant still open at 1145pm when we fancied a bite to eat. Food was very good and staff were friendly. Price was also good. Maybe needed some background music on, but nothing negative to say about eating here.

Bedale, population 4,500, has 3 eat-in Indian restaurants. The competition obviously works, because I was pleasantly surprised by the Spice of Bengal. I chose it as it was the only one that had a menu in the widow - prices were good and there were some interesting sounding specialities. (Prices were actually for takeaways, but eating in was only marginally more expensive).I started with an excellent value mixed kebab, then selected the chicken Rajastani Zafarezi - a dish containing "selected Kashmiri herbs and spices with fresh tomatoes, capsicum, lemon, spring onion, garlic & ginger, green chillies and egg". I can't vouch that everything was there, but is was very good and slightly different to your run of the mill curry. It was accompanied by an excellently cooked naan. Pleasingly for a provincial Indian restaurant, it wasn't too salty. A bottled Bangla beer washed it down well.At first I was a little doubtful about the service - entering an empty restauarnt I asked iof they had a table for one and they seemed slightly doubtful, putting me on a table for four. But although the restaurant remained quiet (they did a better takeaway trade), the actual meal service was fine. Another time I'll try and be there on a Thursday banquet night, which looks like a superb bargain!

Always welcome as regulars . Meal again great ... But the alcohol offered is never quite right for my friend who would welcome more choice.

Late Sunday meal although quiet we'd heard good reports and we wern't dissappointed good choice of menu and they have a Sunday night special which we had nice tasty meal for two under £20 bargain

We had been out walking in aysgarth Falls on the way back we was looking or somewhere to eat it was Valentine's Day and everywhere we went into was either bookings only or did not look as good as it should. We then drove into Bedale looked in a couple of pubs which was the same and then saw the Indian spice of Bengal look through the window and so give it a try. Not knowing what to expect we ordered our food I must say from the beginning with the poppadoms everything was great we had a great meal and good service we later got talking and found out the two men that run the place did everything themselves I must say next time we are in Bedale will be returning to this restaurant.

Have had delicious food from here for many years both eat in and takeaway - the standard remains consistently high. Ate here recently with a group of friends, some had not been before and all became instant converts - lots of varied dishes and everyone was very pleased with their chosen meal. RESULT!

Visited after being recommended by a few different friends and have to say cannot regret anything, from the food to the service. Being Asian myself I find it very hard to find satisfying Indian as we are use to the best everyday at home, but these guys are authentic as it gets. Would recommend to anyoneone looking to get proper India cuisine.

Me and my husband don't get out much alone but we had a night off together and we were told to go here! It was friendly and lovely inside and clean and the food was absolutely gorgeous! Was quiet but with lovely atmosphere with obvious regulars in there talking away to the friendly staff

Moving to northallerton takeaways are few and far in between. Accidentally mistaken this take away for other as there are quite a few indian restaurants on the same street. The food is great and its apparent that fresh ingredients are used. I would recommend the lamb balti, its filling tasty not too spicy and the sauce is lovely and thick. Prices are okay and the portion sizes are spot on.

Being next door to another Indian can't be brilliant for business, but they seem to do ok. It's only a small restaurant which used to be only a takeaway once upon a time. They are more modern than next door, but equally as friendly, plenty of king cobra as well which helps. The food is good. The spice level varies however. The staff do all they can to keep you happy. If it's a takeaway you're after go here. If you want a more authentic restaurant maybe try next door.

Went in a Sunday night and had the £10 meal deal. Items could be chosen from the main menu. Portion sizes are good. My husband ordered a hot dish and was asked by the staff how the food was. He stated it wasn't very hot (spicy) they took it away although he had already eaten about 2/3rds of it and bought him a complete new meal. Shall be visiting again when we are at our holiday home in the area. Staff very friendly.

Popped in on Monday for the second time and had a lovely meal with some work friends. I had a gorgeous Dhal!Friendly, thoughtful staff, lovely food and great music too!Will pop in again.

My wife and I dined here because two years ago, we had one of the best Indian meals we could remember. Unfortunately, this time it was one to forget. The starter of mushroom pakora was fairly bland; there was little taste to it. Our main courses were not particularly warm on serving and there was little to suggest it was an Indian meal if you were to keep your eyes closed. It was disappointing and will probably not be going back.

We called in for a late last min birthday mea lsitting in on a wed night.It was quiet but for 3 other diners.We had a lovely time great service (if a bit of a wait) but everything was first class, meal, service, surroundings,and price.We will definately return soon thanks a lot.
