Visited after a long absence, it’s amazing how a once proud local pub can turn into this !!! There is not one good thing to say about it.

At one point is was a real village pub, but has stood empty for a few years. It has now reopened, with a great family in charge, it’s atmosphere is returning and already feels like a local. The owners have plans to return it to its former glory, serving food and doing the things that make a pub welcoming and homely.

Lovely dog friendly pub, can't do enough to make eating experience what you want, always ask if not on menu because if they have ingredients they will give you what you want. Eat in the bar if you want your dog with you or in the restaurant dog free. New owner, John, just taken over and takes notice of what his customers say, we found that out first hand, because he changes things around after positive remarks.

Visited this the buccaneer after hearing it was under new management There was 7 of us, We ordered a burger chips, lasagne and chips, 2 x fish and chips (more like whale, it was huge) Cajun chucking burger, chips, 2 hot dog (kids) All the food was absolutely amazing, the fish was the best fish I ever had in a pub/restaurant environment, like I said it was huge! We have a few allergies in our part and when we mentioned this the manager told us everything is made to ordered so can be made however we like (very impressed, usually at a pub it’s a case of “sorry it’s already made up we just cook it so choose something else” attitude) Despite this we didn’t seem to be waiting long either so again a huge box ticked! Cajun chicken burger was the perfect blend, obviously everyone is different but for my friend who is very picky and always complains didn’t actually complain! I nearly fell off my chair Only negatives and I’m being really picky! I wasn’t a fan of the home made tata sauce! My mum loved it but not for me And there was lots of rubbish in the beer garden but the manager said when we walk in about that, apologies for the rubbish someone is coming today When we left it was being cleared away All in all it was a loverly meal and we booked our selfs in for a Sunday lunch while we where there so watch this space

Our group of 4 diners had the following faults: 2 had no bacon with the Liver & Bacon (Trade Description Act ?) , 3 had undercooked vegetables, closer to raw than al dente. This is our first but unfortunately last visit, we were misled by the numerous reviews online. Wednesday 20 November 2019.

We booked for four. We turned up 5 minutes EARLY but they apologised because ten people had just turned up who hadn’t booked and they couldn’t cook for 14 people. Pretty sure the tradition is to honour your booking before walk ups.

Rarely write a good review on trip advisor but it's a pleasure to make the change, This is our local so we are regulars. Hospitality and welcome are second to none, kitchen manned by someone who can cook and appreciates good food. Far more important to me than Michelin stars. Plain fayre. A bonus in my book. Good but limited selection of hand pulled ales. Portion size options on some dishes. Don't read my review just go there and eat. You won't be disappointed.

Both myself and my husband had Sunday roast. I had the gammon and my husband the beef. The meat was good with lots of it. The disappointment came with the rest of the meal. The roast potatoes are aunt Bessie not homemade and the Yorkshire pudding was very tough, I think it must have been reheated a couple of times. We both opted for large portions and thank god we did as you really don’t get much veg and was under cooked. All in all we was underwhelmed and probably won’t return in a hurry.

Very friendly welcome here. Small car park available. Food was typical village pub menu but enjoyable and generous portions. The two meals I have photos of are from the lite bite selection. Probably our first visit in a year or more - the last time we visited the food was not so good. But we were very pleasantly surprised to find that the food this time was excellent [Fish, Chips & Peas - two for £12]. The chips in particular were good and tasty, a proper size and shape with no 'splinters'. The fish was succulent, but the batter would have been better if fluffy and crisp (like Papas). Very good friendly service.

The Buccaneer styles itself as a traditional English pub, consequently the décor is quite old fashioned. The food is pleasant, but and not very good value for money. The outside of the pub is disgusting, the fencing around this area has all rotted and fallen down, and the garden/car park is filled with rubbish. With empty beer cans, and rotting furnishings casually chucked into the bushes. The owner is an absolutely vile woman, who recently upon seeing that I had a pet in her car park proceeded to screech at me like a lunatic. I would advise everyone to give this pub a wide berth, as in my experience it is not a welcoming or friendly environment.

Plenty of off-road parking at this inviting pub/restaurant in the small town of Brough, (just off the A63 to/from Hull, East Yorkshire) guarantees a good start to your visit, from where you enter into a homely dining area, complete with open fire and bar, best suited to dining groups of 4 or more persons, though personally we prefer the older feel of the front bar area, suited to dining parties of less than 4 per table.

We visit frequently, both to eat and my husband Dave and our stafford pup george pop in for a welcome drink after his walk before heading home. The food is always well presented, hot and tasty and if you have any food requests the owners will do whatever they can to accomodate you, you only have to ask, the sunday roasts are fabulous and the kitchen is opposite the bar entrance so nothing is hidden and the chef is seen cooking away to which on leaving you can say a welcomed thank you. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the bar on a lead and there is no descrimination on the food you can eat what is offered in the restaurant you can have in the bar ....you will have a warm welcome from all the staff if you visit

Despite having seen they serve food until 9pm on their website, I though I best check with it being between Christmas and New Year. Rang up and was told last orders were to be taken at 7.45pm - fair enough! Arrived at the pub for 7.30, plenty of time to order a drink and check the menu, but again thought I best check the time hadn't changed. It had. The response from through the other side of the bar came "Bloody hell! Who is it? They better be quick" - not the best reception. Having placed an order, the waitress then came over with the cutlery and upon thanking her, there was a sarcastic response of "No, thank you. Thank you very much" (this was the same person as before!).

Visited just over 4 hours ago today July 3rd. 2017 welcome was very positive and friendly just the sort of welcome all pubs should have, think it was the landlady, we ordered food and drinks and they brought them over to the table which was nice, young lady very friendly wife ordered £20 steak medium to rare, , and I ordered large Sunday lunch, which seemed exactly the same size as the medium one served to the other tables, but not normally one to complain, although it was very nice, whilst frying the £20 steak in the kitchen the fire alarms went off because of all the smoke in the kitchen, we were told it was our steak been cooked & had set it off ? other diners did have a laugh about it, , when the steak arrived it was burnt fully on one side and black, so hard, it could not be cut through , we also ordered an extra side sauce that did not arrive with meal so had to re order this also, which took another 5 minutes the girl did apologise for this error - after complaining about the steak my wife just couldn't eat the lady offered us another steak as my wife just could not cut through this , so I ate my meal on my own although we was looking forward to a nice meal as a couple ? but my wife waited for her re cooked rare to medium steak as originally ordered , when it did arrive the lady suggested it was her fault and not the chefs as she suggested she thought we ordered med. to well done , we took this as an insult as it was clear we ordered rare to medium ,and an excuse for the chef no doubt, even if she thought we ordered well done it was burnt to a cinder on one side , should never of left the kitchen, as you could not cut through it even with a steak knife I ask for the bill and there was no suggestion of any apology compensation etc. the young girl ask if everything was ok , I replied all ok except the burnt steak and sauce mix up , we was not offered any thing as compensation we are not the sort to make a comment or complain but this was just not fair, very very disappointed after the perfect start & welcome , even the people on the other table had their meals all mixed up and had to go back to the kitchen, just feel so disappointed with the Buccaneer just not good enough sorry but if you do make a mistake at least try to amends

The bar is dog friendly and we opted to eat in there, there is a restaurant and an outside eating area. I ordered our drinks and took our seats. There is always a specials menu as well as a good selection on the main menu. We ordered 4 mains and they were brought to our table quickly although they were all different meals. The staff are friendly and the pub is comfortable. I have an issue with pubs trying to be fine dining restaurants but this one has the balance right. Decent pint of Tim Taylor's too. Tend to stay away from eating in ale houses I use. However the wife was ravenous so we ate here. I had a stack burger and I was seriously disappointed. The bacon and burger had been welded together and looked a poorly sight on the bun as the bun was twice the burger size. My wife's chicken burger was fine. The chips were McDonald's style so when the table next to us turned up with home made chips we were wounded. On payment the young lady asked if all was ok to which I replied " to be honest the burger was horrendous" she laughed. I can only presume she thought I was joking as she otherwise did a grand job.

Took the mother in law for dinner today, there was a special mothers day menu or sunday roast, nothing else to choose from which i kind of get mothers day is normally a busy day one of the reasons we booked was to avoid disappointment. Mothers day menu was 2 courses £19.95 or 3 courses £24.95 as a rule can never manage a pudding after a Sunday dinner the waitress said we can decide after our meal, so three Sunday dinners 2 beef 1 lamb nice to have lamb on the menu I must say. I went large on the lamb, after a few minutes the meals arrived and the disappointment set in the meal wasn't particularly hot, luke warm at best, even though the plates were not hot the lady serving us felt the need to use her sleeves to hold our plates, the carrots needed topping and tailing before eating that's on top of them being dry and hard all in all the quality was not there at all. After our "meals" we were asked if we wanted a pudding, now if we had a pudding it would have been a mother's day menu price 2 courses £19.95 we just wanted to leave so chose not to, so the bill arrives and 3 drinks and 3 meals just under £30 how good must the puddings be that if we chose one each the bill would have been over £60! I have wanted to eat here for a while after my wife came last year and loved it, I'm sorry to say I won't return or recommend this place, very disappointing.

went in last week had a fabulous meal pies are the best. Saw the diners club menu and the meal that was presented to them all I can say is wow. The service that was provided by the blonde lady was spectacular talk about treating those people special. She looked after us very well too. All the staff were fab including the two young men behind the bar very professional courteous and friendly. Saw the chef as well and must say your food is by far the best in the area.

Great food & atmosphere. Although it was Sunday we didn't have to have a Sunday lunch, we could chose a dinner or anything off the menu, nice option, & plenty to choose from.

We went to the buccaneer, last night, and had a lovely meal. It was a new menu , as a new chef had just started this week, which we thought was a much better menu then before. My husband had Welsh rarebit, and I had crab Thermidor to start with , which was lovely. For our main courses the men , had steak pie, which they both said was lush and the girls had lasagne, which was served with salad and garlic bread, and very tasty. For deserts the men shared cheese and biscuits, as it was a large plate full , and my friend had an amazing sticky toffee pudding which was presented lovely and tasted yummy. We will be going back again , as the service and the food was very good .

We went last night having been turned away from the triton. Not been in buccaneer for prob 10 years. Apparently it's recently changed hands and for what we got the food was distinctly average although I can see what they are trying to do. As a manager of a pub myself the service needs some improvement there was absolutely no presence from the staff in the back area what's so ever. Stood at the bar for 5 minutes to ask for extra ketchup and ended up getting my own. Asked for the bill which came stood at the bar again for 5 or 10 minutes shouted no one came. We prob could have left and not paid I don't think they would have realised. We did pay the bill.I think you are heading in the right direction but you really need to look at how you are with regards to customers. And if you going for home made food go the hole hog and make your own chips etc Other than that and nice average night to be had Good luck

This place has changed hands recently & what a difference the new owners have made, the food is excellent with a good choice on the menu. Eat before 6.00 and get two for £10.00, II had the steak pie being a steak pie fan this was the best I have ever had. Excellent friendly service, well worth a visit.

My husband works away all week and I look after my very active grandaugter on Thursday , so we eat at the Buccaneer , we have never had a bad meal , the homemade pie is the best we have tasted , there is a specials board , a 2 for £10 option before 6 pm and different nights for offers , Thursday is steak night and they are cooked exactly to order , the bar staff are lovely , Sue especially makes everyone feel special , it isn't a pub that belongs to a chain and because it is tucked away near the station isn't known by a lot of people , I would recommend it any time for a good meal whether it's a snack or a full blown 3 course meal

Went on a Sunday about 6pm was not very busy but we live in Brough and have not been for the past three years after being regular meal eaters here. There have been numerous changes in management so we thought we would give it another go. We both opted for burgers, mine a chicken one and my partner had a jalepino burger. Both were a decent size and came with some lovely double/triple cooked chips. We both enjoyed our meals and would go again.

Such a shame that this pub is still in decline. Sorry to say but it has had its day The landlord was drunk and arrogant, Telling silly stories of how great he is and how many other pubs he runs. Well he cant run this one very well. Disgraceful behavior and obviously insane. Never again will we enter this once decent pub. Avoid this pub like the plague. Food is rubbish, decoration is from the seventies and the landlord from another planet. Pub would be better boarded up.

I had the roast beef Sunday lunch and at £9.95 is probably the most expensive in the area. For that price you would expect roast sirloin but no i think it was bought in ready sliced silverside, the new potatoes were solid and the Yorkshire puds were burnt, the rest of it was ok plenty of fresh in season veg and nice gravy.

Visited Brough recently and popped into the bucc. What a dissapointment. The toilets stank, the fish and chips were terrible and we were constantly harassed and interupted by the landlord. I'm sure he was only trying to be friendly but he was very rude, crass, talked absolute nonsense and I'm sure he was drunk! How embarrassing!Won't be back until we see the "under new management" signs have been put up!

It's a great shame that the Buccaneer is tucked away on a culdesac at the end of the village because the food we were served today and on previous visits was first class and great value. There are other pubs in Brough but the Buccaneer near the railway station is worth seeking out if you want good home cooked food at reasonable prices.

Stopped in for a drink and my partner said the mens toilets smelt badly...the pub is in a great location and looks like in a time warp of decoration...such a shame as a great area to bring in locals on foot and who stop for the train......

A quick visit during lunch and between us we ordered everything off the 'two for a tenner' menu. I thought I'd made a bad choice when the lasagne and fish & chips were served next to me, but then my steak pie was served - which was amazing - not one of those dishes with a pastry lid! Good sized portions and great chips too. Really need to come back for the fish...or maybe the lasagne. .but then the pie was so good!

We ate here last Wednesday after trying to eat in the pub down the road which we decided to leave because of the volume of the televisions. The same rugby was on the televisions here, but the volume was quiet and not intrusive. The pub had a very nice ambience, was comfortable and welcoming. We had a lovely meal, beautifully presented and a good portion. Thank you, will be back.

Have been a semi regular of the Bucc for a few years now and have always enjoyed my time there. Not too often visting these days but popped in on Sunday 'intrigued' to meet the new landlord who has had a mixed repsonse on here. Went in with 2 local lads who seemed to know him fairly well. Well, what a top bloke, served immediately, food came within minutes (lovely hot roast beef sandwich) and he spent time with us on our side of the bar whilst we enjoyed our beers! Might have to start returning more regulary.

We have been going to The Bucaneer for the last 9 years and regularly having the fish and chips. Although quite expensive for pub food the quality has always been excellent.Tonight however we were very disappointed. The fish was tasty but smaller than usual and the chips were dry , tasteless oven chips. These are the type of chips you would expect to be served at a two for one type pub.We will not eat there again.

We went on a quiet Sunday afternoon out of season because the previous review said they allowed the dog to go inside. I asked if we could take the pup in and sit out of the way in the corner. The lady said no sorry I don’t allow dogs in at all.

We had lunch at The Potting Shed with family. This was a return visit, and we think it’s the best garden centre restaurant in the area. Soup was carrot and coriander (delicious, could’ve eaten more!), sandwiches were very fresh, and the haddock and chips were delicious. Restaurant is very clean and well laid out, tables not too close together. I’m sure we’ll be back!

This cafe is now called Miss Bs pantry. Very friendly ladies and delicious food. As a coeliac myself I have to have gluten free. This is very well catered for here so my partner and I have visited on numerous occasions.Various selection of savoury dishes and cakes. Lovely latte too. Well worth a visit.
