Normally very good but unable to book a table on their website for a birthday. We are very local, looks closed up and no cars in the car park every time we pass.

The kids meals were ok but main meals we thought were not great and didn’t think they were worth the price. I love a kebab but thought I would get better quality at a kebab shop. Tiny naan breads with not much meat.

We called in for lunch as a family of four as we were passing. My boys had burgers which were homemade and very tasty. My husband and I had the "mad Greek" mixed kebabs with fries, flatbread, tzatziki and Greek salad which were delicious and generously portioned. Which was just as well as both boys stole plenty of kebabs as they looked so tempting. The boys also enjoyed the small play area outside.

It takes a lot for my family to complain. But today was by far the worst meal we’ve had as a family of 10. Manager was rude and argumentative, staff seemed undertrained or just didn’t care? . Lots of things missing from the menu leaving us not a lot of choice and what we did choose came out cold, burnt and dry. The chicken burger was a joke. Bread, four pieces of chicken and an undercooked cob? No salad on the burger at all. Speaking of salad for a Greek restaurant I’ve never seen a Greek salad look so depressing, lettuce, tomato and a bit of cucumber. No dressing, no feta and frankly not a-lot of it! When trying to communicate to the manager that we were dissatisfied with our food he became very argumentative saying that we were calling his food rubbish and that this is how It’s meant to be? Very disappointed with how my birthday meal turned out and disappointed with the way they handled the situation.

Party of 4 called in for lunch. Pub not busy. Staff friendly, welcomed warmly. Unfortunately the starters we ordered were not available we were told once we’d ordered. There was a lack of attention to detail on presentation. The Gin came with 1 ice cube and no lemon or lime for example. The food continued in this way. The starters were a pot of hummus. a pot of tzatziki and pieces on pitta on a tray. A bowl of plain green olives a a bowl of Feta cubes. All basic. For mains we had burgers and kebabs.Previous posts on here show the kebabs with plentiful fresh salad, peppers, olives and chunky chips that appear homemade. Mine arrived a white flatbread with iceberg lettuce, pieces of tomato and pieces of cucumber with 3 slices of Halloumi. My chips were skinny chips that did not appear homemade. Plentiful portion but just ok not “Gastropub” We might have called when they were having an off day, but found food just ok, basic and not a Gastropub experience

Not sure why this has only 3.5 stars ? Has the chippy recently changed ownership? Genuinely the best Haddock and chips , mushy peas snd curry sauce for miles around. The Haddock and chips were both cooked to perfection - and the batter was thin crispy and tasty - equally delicious! Very generous portion sizes especially the sizes of haddock we were given. If your visiting Bakewell and fancy some top quality British staple fare then Riverside is a must try!

We visit occasionally and whilst it’s not as good as our local chippy, in the past it has generally been ok. Not sure whether it has changed hands, but today we were quite disappointed. The chips were quite anaemic, oversized and not particularly tasty. We asked for a small fish and I’m not sure what it was but it was tasteless. We had a large chips to share, small fish, a mince beef onion pie and large gravy which came to £14, which we don’t think was particularly good value for money. Only went in because our local doesn’t open on Wednesdays, probably won’t bother again.

We visited on one of the Matlock Bath Illuninations nights. It was busy but we managed to find a seat, sharing a table with another family. Excellent Fish and Chips here and large portions too. My wife had the mini fish and chips and it was plenty - the fish was larger than some ordinary portions at other shops. Service is friendly and good.
