The Seafood Cave And Grill in Derbyshire Dales

One of the best seafood experiences I have ever had. The food was out of this world- so fresh and tasty. The staff were so friendly and happy to talk to us. Very good value for money. We will be visiting again very soon.

The place is kind of intimate which is nice, the servers pay attention and the food was amazing! Best seafood chowder ever!( I didn’t take a photo unfortunately ) I don’t know if it’s just cause it was Valentine’s Day but they offered a free glass of Prosecco, these little fish canapé on tinie wienie wooden spoons which was so cute and extra prawns with our mains. It was so lovely, Thankyou so much💖💖

This is definitely 100% the best meal me and my wife have eaten.. Bravo chefs and staff and we are definitely bringing friends for sure.. Thank you

The best Seafood restaurant i have ever been to. A treasure located in Matlock Bath. The staff are all really friendly and the food is incredible. Myself and my boyfriend visit as often as we can.

Built into the side of the mountain, you can go further back into the cave. Extensive seafood menu with daily specials. Also veggie and carni options.

A fantastic little restaurant hidden behind the shops, focus is on fish and you can watch it all been made. Great team and changing menu base on fresh fish highly recommend it does get busy

Every visit is such a treat - the Cullen Skink is the best I've ever tasted!

My husband generally hates fish but loved it here, there was a choice for him with steaks etc. but also fish and chips (that he likes as it’s deep fried!), the comment was it was better than the fish and chips at Rick Steins! We had the sharing nibbles which were delicious, as was my main course Posh Fash. All the flavours really complemented each other and it was great to see how professionally prepared it all was. Chocolate desert a winner too! Thank you for my Birthday meal!

Little gem of a restaurant off the beaten track and easily missed. Compared with the tourist fish & chip shops and Stones in Matlock this is at the upper end of the scale. Starters £8 to 10 range. Mains around £20 to 25. Service is friendly and the food tasted great. Well worth a visit, we will certainly be returning.

Oh my word... where to begin?? WHERE HAS THIS PLACE BEEN ALL MY LIFE?! The most beautiful selection of seafood cooked to perfection, presented to such a high standard and tasty beyond words. The service from both the waiting staff and chefs was fantastic. The setting and atmosphere was just lovely, we truly had such a fantastic experience here. We can't wait to return!!!

We were sat at the 'chefs table' or the one closest to the open kitchen(!) And were made to feel welcome right from the start. Both chefs were lovely and accommodating and enjoyed conversing with us. The food was fantastic. Clean, fresh, and so delicious. I preferred this to Stones in Matlock. Im comparing the 2 as the level of cooking was on par with it, without the formalities and the stuffy atmosphere. Wouldn't hesitate to come back. Pannacotta for pudding was unreal

After spending the weekend in a lot of supper amazing restaurants this one was by far the most amazing place we came to Ian and his team run an extremely well organised and friendly restaurant with food of the highest quality and presentation. Each member of staff took pride it what they did. We will most definitely be coming back as the food was unforgettable. Definitely recommend

First time in Matlock Bath and tucked away was this little gem of a restaurant. Food was absolutely amazing, compliments to the staff and chef on a lunch well served, beautifully presented and tasted out of this world.

This place is a curiosity. It’s nowhere near the sea and doesn’t look anything special from the outside but the food is beautiful. The mixed grill was one of the best seafood dishes I’ve had in years. We’ll definitely be back.

Absolutely fabulous meal this evening, had difficulty parking in Matlock , however, nothing to do with RESTERAUNT. Had a great sharing platter of seafood, followed by incredible means sharing chocolate platter. Had a small personal issue to attend to whilst dining, and all the staff could not do enough to help. Was a pleasure to dine in such a place with fabulous fresh seafood and a massively attentive and caring team. Can’t say enough about this place, absolutely recommend.

Second time eating in the gorgeous establishment!!!!! This food!!!! There are no words to do it justice. If you haven't been here. You need to!! The restaurant itself is small and intimate. Warm and cozy. Service is incredibly fast, the servers are perfect! Watching the chef's Otis and Jordan work with such precision. Plating food again if it didn't look perfect!! While still serving this divine food hot, fresh and on time! Incredible 👏🏾

Food is amazing. Well presented and delicious. They cook it in an open kitchen so it can get a bit smoky. Waiting staff were very pleasant and took our photos in the cave.

We went there last night booked a table on Wednesday evening was looking forward to trying the food drove 30 miles to matlock to find out it wasn't open very disappointed no call to say it wasn't opening a waste of time and fuel

A surprising find, both unexpected and delightful. An unusual setting and backdrop adds to the informal and friendly atmosphere provided by the staff. Booking is essential. The food was exceptional and very good value, while the chefs were knowledgeable and happy to discuss their menu and ingredients. A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience not to be missed if you are in the area.

After reading some good reviews thought we would give it a try. Thought food was ok but of average quality and overpriced. The kitchen needs better extraction fans as the restaurant was very smoky and they had to open the door to the entrance to the restaurant which is not ideal. Would not recommend to family or friends and would not return.

Food was truly excellent. Service prompt and friendly. They were full, so I ate outside in the courtyard with just two other people, so atmosphere was a bit quiet. So the lesson is book your table!

A diamond in the Ruff. Set back from the high Street ( a blessing) the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough. The food (Mixed seafood grill) was beautifully presented . Nicely cooked . And a great taste. I can happily reccomend this restaurant

The Seafood Cave is a hidden gem in the centre of Matlock Bath. We have have enjoyed a number of meals here and each and every time the quality and presentation is second to none. On this visit we chose the specials, Shetland mussels and clams in a Pancetta, white wine and Derbyshire Blue sauce and a grazing board. Both were amazing with a mix of subtle flavours, each of which complimented the dish perfectly. Then for mains we both had the Torquay lobster, Shetland prawns and Scallops along with Parmesan fries and salad. Again, every mouthful was flavoursome, well seasons and a delight to eat. The desert was also out of this world. I chose the Bakewell Brûlée. Crème brûlée with almond and cherry served with homemade amaretti biscuits. I can honestly say that this is the best meal that I’ve had for many years.

10 people all having different dishes, we all thoroughly enjoyed all the food brought out.

OMG do not pass this place by, it is incredible. From the road, it looks like nothing. In fact, it is set back in a courtyard and could easily be missed. What a huge mistake that would be. The place is lovely inside but the welcome was even friendlier. But the real magic is the food. Every morsel was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented and that's not easy with fish. We started with an amuse bouche courtesy of the kitchen. Tiny perfect crab and dill mounds on Melba toast. The freshest crab imaginable and perfectly complemented by the dill. We then shared the seafood platter. Superb! Full of little hidden delights of different kinds. For the main we wanted to share the surf and turf but the chef was classy enough to split it for us. How he got such a thin little steak perfectly caramelised on the outside whilst leaving it pink on the inside is a mystery to me. Every bit of fish was better than the last and the accompaniments well deserved their place in the plate. Excellent! We were in two minds over desert, but thought it would be rude not to try something. We were treated to a pre-dessert of custard tart. Such thin pastry so clevery filled with the light at custard filling imaginable. That was the ideal precursor for what was to come. A plate of different chocolate wonders each more wonderful than the last. We are a long way from home, but will have to come back again soon.

Brilliant little restaurant tucked away off the main street. Food was delicious - perfectly cooked and came with a wide variety of veg that matched the fish perfectly. Staff were friendly, efficient and very accommodating. Really impressed all round.

I made a telephone reservation last week for here and I told the gentleman on the phone my name Which was pearsall my booking was made for Sunday the 16th july. I rang on the Sunday to confirm my time as I couldn't remember if it was 5 or 5.30 to be told there was no booking for that time in that name I wasn't happy because this was booked for a special occasion and I know I booked but just left it at that, then at 6.45 I received a phone asking if I was coming for my reservation I explained I rang either and was told I didn't have one. The lady on the phone explained it had been booked in for 6.30 under the name dearsall obviously there was a miscommunication with the name when booking witch was an easy mastake to make and she apologised for the mix up..after putting the phone down I explained the mix up with my partner. He then rang to speak to someone about this. The lady on the phone was very rude and accused my partner of been highly intoxicated! Which was far from the truth as my partner is partially deaf and wears hearing aids and this is the reason it partially effects his speech at times. We was both in shock and discusted by her comment and when he asked to speak to the manager she said she was the manager in which he said well can I speak to the owner please but he was told he wasn't there so he then asked for his contact details she then said her phone had no battery and couldn't get them then put the phone down abruptly on my partner. We was both in total shock can safely say we will not be making any further reservations here due to sheer disregard and unprofessional behaviour. Such a shame tbh as the food looks amazing and we was very looking forward to our visit. Shame the "supposed manager" has no customer service skills and was extremely unhelpful and rude.

Excellent food and service. Sat at the 'Chefs table', which meant we could talk with the chef and watch as he prepared the food. Really enjoyable meal with superb food and the best oysters I've ever eaten. Would benefit from a broarder wine list but otherwise faultless.

The food, service and atmosphere at the restaurant was top class. We were lucky enough to get to eat at the chefs table. The Chef was really helpful in helping me choose my dish as I haven't really eaten much seafood & it tasted superb👍 Even though the restaurant was quite busy the chef still had time to chat with us & the other customers. All the food we had was cooked to perfection & all the other dishes that came out looked amazing. We will definitely be going back again. Thankyou so much to the chef & all the staff for making us feel so welcome & full.

We had a table booked in the courtyard. We took one look at it a decided we didn’t like it. We tried to get a table inside but none available. Whilst I have confidence the food is decent it is also important to have somewhere nice to be eating it. The courtyard certainly did not look like the image on the website. It basically needs a tidy up. We left

Saw this place advertised on Facebook so decided to go with 2 friends. Lovely place to walk into and staff were welcoming and friendly. We sat near the open kitchen so we could see the chefs preparing the food. Good selection of drinks to choose from and the menu was small but described perfectly. We had the hot and cold seafood platter to share and one of the cave cocktails. All very well presented and very fresh ingredients. For the mains myself and one of my friends had the seafood mixed grill which consisted of hake smoked haddock and sea trout. Beautifully portioned and the fish just melted in your mouth! My other friend had the monkfish and said it was excellent also. We managed to have desserts too, 2 of us had the chocolate platter and I had the cheeseboard. They managed their chocolate extravaganza but had to help me with the cheeseboard! Overall an amazing night with amazing staff and friends. Will definitely be going back.

A small but perfect restaurant with friendly service. The chefs kitchen is open plan so they are in the restaurant cooking which makes for a great atmosphere. The food is absolutely amazing, will definitely be going back here.

Wow wow wow! We are local and I live in Belper (less than 10 miles away). We came here just for this amazing restaurant. It did not disappoint. I could have been sat in an amazing seafood place in Portugal. The food is amazing ( see the photos)! We will be back and we would definitely recommend this amazing food. We eat out a lot and there are not enough stars for this place 😀 If you don’t like fish then they have meat and veggie too!

Lovely food and great service. We sat outside in a little court yard, only downside was it was Saturday and lots of people came up and down to check it out and it wasnt as quiet as we would have liked. Would have preffered indoors. Otherwise a lovely lunch.

It is a very different and interesting restaurant. Certainly worth a visit but not exactly to my taste. My son and his girlfriend loved it.

Visited on a recommendation from a work colleague and so glad we did it's situated down an ally called the arcade in beautiful matlock bath. The staff was waiting for us to arrive as the restaurant only seated 6 tables, you could see the chefs cooking your meals, the restaurant was fully booked so it was a little slow but we was with friends so not a major problem. Would I go again? Yes, I would

What an amazing place! Fantastic meal loved by us all, especially our 3 and 5 year old who love seafood and loved watching the chefs at work

The restaurant is placed conveniently off the main street, so it's n9t too noisy when sitting outside. Normally, you would have to book a table to eat here, but we were absolutely lucky and got the table upon just arrival. Food is delicious, with a wide range and selection of seafood, including lobster. Very professional and polite members of staff. Overall positive experience, I would recommend to anyone looking for more fancy food than "traditional fish and chips"

Great friendly staff. Food good and tasty . We had 2 fishfood mix grill main course and 2 drinks £60 . The seafood mix grill was tasked lively and looking good but it far smaller than i expected. Fish and vegetables could had been a little bit bigger. I came away feeling hungry.

Average food at best! So disappointed after reading all the reviews! My steak was absolutely awful, the waste pipes from the prawns weren’t removed (actually poisoning me) I spent the night in a hotel toilet vomiting! After spending nearly 100£ I was expecting so much more! Also the brûlée was overcooked and grainy! My wife’s pork starter was absolutely amazing, which is the only reason I gave more then 1 star!

Wow! Just WOW! What a wonderful little hidden gem. I visited with a friend for a special birthday, and she was made to feel really special. The staff are lovely and friendly, attentive without being in your face. And the food! If you like fish and seafood, you REALLY need to visit. Beautifully presented, beautifully cooked, and full of flavour, I really really wish that I'd taken photos, but everything looked that delicious we dived straight in! Will definitely be a repeat customer.

Excellent food with very friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. We were fortunate enough to be given a table next to the "open" kitchen and the main chef/ owner was happy to engage in conversation with us while he worked, which was an added bonus. There was really good teamwork and interaction between the staff and everything about the place was friendly and quietly efficient, which resulted in a very enjoyable experience for us.

We had the seafood platter for 2 , my partner is a coeliac so they did not batter the squid and he had gluten free bread and crackers. 1 surf and turf , 1 mussels both really generous and the sauce for the mussels gorgeous , you have to try it . I had a amazing Guinness cake with rum raisin ice cream and he had Bakewell brûlée dessert with gluten free shortbread. Here is why I think this place is excellent : Flavour on each dish fresh and cooked perfectly Service is friendly & relaxed Gluten free option not just removing items with wheat and charging you the same price it is amazing how often this happens elsewhere. Good portions my other half is not easy to fill ! Enough choice on the menu ( too many choices is a bit of a warning sign in any place) but there is something for everyone. Food cooked in the restaurant , you can see it’s cooked fresh and the hygiene is on point as well as fun to watch . I will definitely return , you can book online save me a seat though !

We treated my parents to a meal here. Take away was supposed to be sunny but not. My dad is a Fish-ionado and he declared his Sea Trout delicious. We took a good selection from the menu and it was all amazing. Thank you. Paul and Debs.

Staying in Matlock for 2 nights and this seemed the place to eat. So booked in and wasn’t disappointed. We were sitting close by to the open kitchen which the kids loved, the team were really friendly and didn’t mind kids. The food was fabulous. Would have happily ate there both nights and if we are ever back in the area would definitely go back. First class food.

What a little hidden gem of a place, our first visit last night and wow! The staff are so nice, friendly and helpful, the restaurant is quaint, rustic, unique and spotlessly clean. As for the food it's gorgeous, tasty and fresh, you can see the chefs at work as the cooking area is in the restaurant itself and you can see the passion in what they create and the attention to detail they put into each dish. This was our 3rd visit, excellent food, fast friendly service, not too busy. Yet again we were very happy with our meal, starter of a full dressed crab was superb, main.. Posh Fash Fae Peterheid was a taste sensation...those scallops ! Dessert, sticky toffee pudding . Everything was cooked to perfection, polite , attentive service. Well worth a visit! Will be returning again. Well done to all .
