Order large Cod, Chips and peas with a tea. Kids sausage chips beans and tin of coke. Mine came on two plates. Went down a treat because was ready for it after day at Gullivers. And yes I assembled it onto one plate and left full. N I'm a big lad £21 cannot go wrong with that.

Great food here. Friendly staff. Toilet for customers. In and outside seating with a great view of the area.

In response to owners reply- There is no signage that says 'entrance or exit' both doors say 'welcome' one with 'fish bar' the other with 'restaurant' above.. if your going to have a snotty attitude about something that clearly isnt obvious maybe make it obvious that the entrance is the door on the right that says 'restaurant' above it and has a table and chairs obstructing it.. if you had given us 2 seconds to get in the door we would of formed an orderly que for you The problem was the tone in wich this was said within seconds of us walking in the door. Not what was said. Original review - Damn right rude server! Can't comment on anything other than the service. Me and my mate came in. Hadn't had chance to even walk in the door before the rude server demanded that we all move towards the right and 'que properly' so she could 'know who to serve next'. Like simply asking 'whos next please' wouldnt have achieved the same outcome. For God's sake woman give us a chance to get in the door. We Instantly walked out and went to the much more accommodating chippy kostas next door. Don't let your stress impact on your customer service. Looking at reviews it's not a one off either. Maybe you are in the wrong job

Lovely run place. We were a little early. They let us sit down and order. Very friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent, and the best fish and chips we have had in a long time. Reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Well went here 23 Feb 2025 The shop on left . The lady who served us was so so rude telling we could not sit were we was as it was for 6 people or more but the shop is empty staff member was so rude to my self and wife all in front of our son

Best chip shop in matlock bath, clearly a favourite amongst locals and visitors alike. Food is always hot, fresh and delicious, the restaurant is always clean, and the staff are great. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

Wouldn't use this place again only went cause Kostas is being refurbished and god did we regret it food was nice at all fish was like something you got from Iceland wasn't fresh fish also battered burger was dripping with grease and burger was hardly cooked definitely will not be going again spent most of night on toilet

Only called in for a small bag of chips. Had to wait over ten minutes . I don't mind paying for quality, but these weren't the best . Won't bother again.

It was a great experience today at Promanade, the staff was amazing to myself and my colleague, Lily was good at serving customers and making sure everything’s fine. Kudos to the Lily and the kitchen staff. Food was amazing as well

We visited on one of the Matlock Bath Illuninations nights. It was busy but we managed to find a seat, sharing a table with another family. Excellent Fish and Chips here and large portions too. My wife had the mini fish and chips and it was plenty - the fish was larger than some ordinary portions at other shops. Service is friendly and good.

Staff are friendly, food is good and atmosphere when bikers are about is lively, fun and welcoming.

Food is always excellent quality, best in Matlock, we sometimes drive out from Chesterfield specifically to come here if we fancy fish and chips. The staff are always polite, friendly and helpful (i like onion vinegar on my chips and they always get it for me 😊) . 10/10 for us always!

Great value small fish and chips very good service when eating in.

Raw batter, was barely even crispy on the outside , felt like I was eating pancake mix and was very chewy. Chips were decent , mushy peas definitely not fresh most likely from a can. Unapproachable staff member when on the till was very rushed and didn’t seem to sure on my question on what type of sausage it was.

We enjoyed our food from this place and can't really say anything bad on this visit. Was reasonably priced for where it is and the portion size was ok. We would eat here again and probably will do on our next visit.

I ordered cod and chips, chicken burger, scampi and sausage. The chicken burger has no sauce but oil sipped on the bread. Taste was disgusting. Good thing we have ketchup in the car. It became bearble but didn’t really finished. Staff was rude when asked for orders to be taken away. There are plenty other fish and ships shop in Matlock Bath, so better go elsewhere. I ordered from the shop near the parking by the river. I just totally forgot the shop’s name but that one was better. They were even nicely packed.

I used to argue this is the best chip shop in Derbyshire, sadly it has gone to trash recently. The portions are shrinking, the quality deteriorating. The tomato sauce is either super cheap or watered down to the point where it ruins food, the curry sauce now comes in micro-portions. It seems since expanding that the costs are impacting the quality. The fish isn't as big as it used to be, but it's still reasonable for now. And then there's the attitude of service. The senior lady working in there couldn't make you feel more uncomfortable if she tried. Terrible attitude and a real shame. Expensive and no longer worth its value. After over 18 years using this place, I'm sad to say I'll be looking elsewhere now.

Great service& decent portion of crispy but fat chips with a pukka pie& peas for £7,got my pal some too&2 drinks. Seats to sit down in clean& friendly.Best part for me& a pal of a mostly otherwise wet miserable day, located in middle of the promenade.

Called in today after a day in Chesterfield flea market,good crowd there felt optimistic,unfortunately the food that was served was awful chips were covered in oil,& I've never seen so many bad eyes in the chips,,won't be returning.

6.30pm during half term but I got a nice seat outside, the guy serving was very friendly. Best curry sauce I've had in a long time!! I had the mini fish and chips with sauce for £7 which I thought was great value and was perfect for me. Hit the spot! Oh and the toilets were clean.

Went down Matlock Bath with my wife and sat inside for a really nice fish and chip lunchtime..rounded off with a cup of tea 🍵...always a great place for watching comings and goings of motorcycles 🏍 😎

We visited here today with our 2 small dogs . We both had small fish chips and peas. They were delicious. We sat outside obviously , and the lady behind the counter came out and gave our dog's a sausage to eat all chopped up. How nice of her. We will be going back. Excellent for food and service.

Stopped here when just passing through Matlock Bath as I fancied some chips. There seemed to be more chip shops than in Blackpool 😂 so I just picked one at random, The chips were decidedly average and had been par fried and a bit over cooked but the peas were good though. Will probably choose another chippy next time.

We use this fish bar over the many others due to fact you can get seated within 10 - 15 minutes. Food has been fantastic over the last year..

Very nice on a cold wet monday evening very nice lady said we could go and sit in the cafe area as we had only had take away we had fish and chips and not too expensive nice to see a chippy doing well

We visited here yesterday evening and we are glad we did we were welcomed with smiles from the staff. The food was nice and good portion sizes. We were asked how the food was half way through eating. And at the end a member of staff offered my little boy a lollypop she was friendly and chatty. Amazing customer service we will definitely visit here again soon🙂

I can highly recommend the fish. The batter was crisp and not watery and the fish was plump and cooked well. The portion was huge so, sadly, I couldn’t eat it all. The fish bar was clean and the staff very friendly.

Fish and chips were cooked fresh, and tasted good. The service was good. Very friendly staff. Would eat here again the next time we are in matlock bath.

no one on my table but the starving girl enjoyed their food burger was horrid mushy peas were flavourless and were luke warm plain sausage was good but as a previous chip shop worker it doesn’t get much easier than a plain sausage toilet was broken with no sign to tell us this the door to the toilet also doesn’t shut and the server was a moody the whole experience was an abomination

There are a lot of fish and chip shops to choose from in Matlock Bath ,we think about 10 just along the riverside ,we picked this one as it seemed busy and had dog friendly tables outside.We got the small fish and chip special for £7.00 and it did not disappoint ,just the right size for me. The chips were proper chippie chips and the fish was lovely and white with a crispy tasty batter.It came with a sauce or peas ,I went for the curry sauce which was a lovey flavour .All washed down with a cup of tea.Service was quick and very friendly .I think it’s family run .As good as any fish and chips I’ve had at the seaside and a great price .

Average food quality - nice staff - abysmal portion size!

Staff are friendly and polite, the place itself is inviting and clean, but unfortunately the portions and quality of food is a big let down! I always used to come here with my parents as a child, and always remember my dad only ever coming here. Maybe my expectations are too high, however the portion of chips (a large chips and large sausage) was absolutely tiny! Laughable in fact! The battered sausage was so overcooked it was inedible, the chips were majorly pale and undercooked, the fish batter was soggy! Very disappointed for £15! Unfortunately, will not be returning. :(

Tasted good but fish/batter was really quite greasy. Service was good/friendly. Cleanliness was acceptable, just what you expected for a fish and chip cafe.

Talk about good timing and never again! I was just about to order some food from the Promenade fish bar in Matlock Bath when one of the staff walked back in after smoking outside. He walked straight back around the serving counter without washing his hands. That might be acceptable to smokers, but as a non smoker I find it disgusting. I'll not be using that place again..

Called in on Friday tea time for a treat, how things change, chips that are a hazard to teeth, (over cooked and hard) didnt bother with fish as it looked as though it had been in the hot plate all day and the battered sausage was poor needless to say that I didnt even take it home for the dog, steer well clear of this place

My partner lost his wallet while we were on holiday in Matlock from Leicester. A very kind family handed it into the Route 66 Promenade fish bar. The fish bar then emailed to say that they had got it. We didn't see the email until we'd arrived back home. We travelled back to Matlock today to pick it up which is a small price to pay to get it back safely. We cannot thank the family and The Promenade enough. Its so nice to know that there are still kind and honest people out there. Sadly the family didn't leave any contact details. Thank you again Jean and Gary.

Mini fish meal £6! What an absolute delight this was. The fish was cooked to perfection and was just enough for me. We sat outside in the sunshine and watched the world go by. It's definitely worth a visit!

We visited this evening with our daughter and grandson. The chip shop was very clean, staff very friendly and couldn't do enough to make our experience any better. The fish was delicious, fresh, and melted in your mouth. Will definitely be coming again.

I loved being served food by people who have warm smiles, the food tastes better somehow. The service here is so friendly. We had cod and chips. The cod fillet was substantial and fried to perfection with a crispy batter (not soggy). Chips were perfect. It was cooked fresh for us. These guys are doing great, I wish them every success. My friend from America was having her first fish and chip supper and had heard much hype about our British staple meal. She commented she couldn’t have imagined just how delicious it actually was. I’m so happy we went to Route 66.
