Promenade Fish Bar in Derbyshire Dales

We visited here yesterday evening and we are glad we did we were welcomed with smiles from the staff. The food was nice and good portion sizes. We were asked how the food was half way through eating. And at the end a member of staff offered my little boy a lollypop she was friendly and chatty. Amazing customer service we will definitely visit here again soon🙂

Best fish and chips I’ve ever had!!! The place was clean and tidy, and the lady who served me was lovely. Very reasonably priced.

I can highly recommend the fish. The batter was crisp and not watery and the fish was plump and cooked well. The portion was huge so, sadly, I couldn’t eat it all. The fish bar was clean and the staff very friendly.

Fish and chips were cooked fresh, and tasted good. The service was good. Very friendly staff. Would eat here again the next time we are in matlock bath.

Amazing! Think these are the best chips I've seen in a long time! My little boy loved them & the service was amazing, literally sat down & a plate of chips appeared! Portion sizes were brilliant as well! Thank you so much to the lady & gent for being so pleasant! The gent even asked how we were finding the food! Keep up the work! We will be back! 😊

no one on my table but the starving girl enjoyed their food burger was horrid mushy peas were flavourless and were luke warm plain sausage was good but as a previous chip shop worker it doesn’t get much easier than a plain sausage toilet was broken with no sign to tell us this the door to the toilet also doesn’t shut and the server was a moody the whole experience was an abomination

There are a lot of fish and chip shops to choose from in Matlock Bath ,we think about 10 just along the riverside ,we picked this one as it seemed busy and had dog friendly tables outside.We got the small fish and chip special for £7.00 and it did not disappoint ,just the right size for me. The chips were proper chippie chips and the fish was lovely and white with a crispy tasty batter.It came with a sauce or peas ,I went for the curry sauce which was a lovey flavour .All washed down with a cup of tea.Service was quick and very friendly .I think it’s family run .As good as any fish and chips I’ve had at the seaside and a great price .

Staff are friendly and polite, the place itself is inviting and clean, but unfortunately the portions and quality of food is a big let down! I always used to come here with my parents as a child, and always remember my dad only ever coming here. Maybe my expectations are too high, however the portion of chips (a large chips and large sausage) was absolutely tiny! Laughable in fact! The battered sausage was so overcooked it was inedible, the chips were majorly pale and undercooked, the fish batter was soggy! Very disappointed for £15! Unfortunately, will not be returning. :(

Tasted good but fish/batter was really quite greasy. Service was good/friendly. Cleanliness was acceptable, just what you expected for a fish and chip cafe.

Talk about good timing and never again! I was just about to order some food from the Promenade fish bar in Matlock Bath when one of the staff walked back in after smoking outside. He walked straight back around the serving counter without washing his hands. That might be acceptable to smokers, but as a non smoker I find it disgusting. I'll not be using that place again..

Called in on Friday tea time for a treat, how things change, chips that are a hazard to teeth, (over cooked and hard) didnt bother with fish as it looked as though it had been in the hot plate all day and the battered sausage was poor needless to say that I didnt even take it home for the dog, steer well clear of this place

The best chip shop in Matlock Bath the staff are always pleasant and polite , the cod and chips are fab the restaurant is very clean , we go to Matlock Bath a lot tried all chip shops but always go to this one the best

My partner lost his wallet while we were on holiday in Matlock from Leicester. A very kind family handed it into the Route 66 Promenade fish bar. The fish bar then emailed to say that they had got it. We didn't see the email until we'd arrived back home. We travelled back to Matlock today to pick it up which is a small price to pay to get it back safely. We cannot thank the family and The Promenade enough. Its so nice to know that there are still kind and honest people out there. Sadly the family didn't leave any contact details. Thank you again Jean and Gary.

Lovely food, great price, and friendly staff!

Mini fish meal £6! What an absolute delight this was. The fish was cooked to perfection and was just enough for me. We sat outside in the sunshine and watched the world go by. It's definitely worth a visit!

Probably the best in matlock. But still terrible . Not a single chippy in matlock knows how to do chips

We visited this evening with our daughter and grandson. The chip shop was very clean, staff very friendly and couldn't do enough to make our experience any better. The fish was delicious, fresh, and melted in your mouth. Will definitely be coming again.

I loved being served food by people who have warm smiles, the food tastes better somehow. The service here is so friendly. We had cod and chips. The cod fillet was substantial and fried to perfection with a crispy batter (not soggy). Chips were perfect. It was cooked fresh for us. These guys are doing great, I wish them every success. My friend from America was having her first fish and chip supper and had heard much hype about our British staple meal. She commented she couldn’t have imagined just how delicious it actually was. I’m so happy we went to Route 66.

Children hardly ate chips were horrible no knives forks till after food was out had too wait non of us hardly ate chips cold and tasteless quire a expensive chip shop and we spent £40 waste of money would not return they were too busy serving take a way customers for us too complain

We stopped for food, the staff was very welcoming and the prices were very reasonable.

Fish, chips and peas were delicious. All very fresh and hot. Loved the lovely flakes of white fish and crispy batter. Great mushy peas as well - stand out. Friendly service. We ate them at one of the tables outside (clean). Can’t fault it 10/10.

Been visiting this chippy for many years, we have been in when passing on a couple of New Years Day's. Popped in again yesterday on our way through & we were not disappointed. Fantastic food, great service and still great prices too. We won't eat anywhere else in Matlock Bath.

Updated 2023: We’ve been visiting this fish and chip shop for years and always found that their food to be really good. In recent times we’ve had some very poor food which felt undercooked and just wasn’t nice. Even the quality of fish wasn’t very good. I’ve also always had a mini fish without batter, but they wouldn’t do this on the last occasion which is gutting. THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS IN MATLOCK BATH!!! We’ve been coming here for years, great price, great service and the best tasting fish and chips in Matlock Bath. They’ll even cook me the Fish and Chip special without batter which is a massive bonus for me. Well worth a visit!

1 fish n chips, 1 sausage and chips- quick service 1 dinner was ok, 1 had 2 long hairs in....attached to the batter so wasn't one of ours!

Very disappointed. Have been coming here for 20 years and it has gone down hill in recent months due to inconsistent quality of food. Past 4 visits go like this, undercooked, burnt, spot on and burnt again today. Don't bother complaining as they tell you that your wrong and should not complain. Disappointing customer service.

Wasn't very good fish and chips cooked in cheap oil, chips were cooked and fish had skin on. Only good thing was the curry sauce. Your better going to a backstreet chippy over these tourist trap ones. Won't be making that mistake again.

Visited Matlock bath today, me and my husband had our lunch inside. Freindly staff, the fish and chips were delicious. We ordered a small fish each but they were a very good size, definitely not small. We definitely go again and would highly recommend.

Tasty, fresh fish in crispy batter - cooked to perfection. Proper chips cooked brilliantly and the mushy peas - perfect. I had the small fish - which was much bigger than I thought!!! What was truly fabulous was Lela gave every customer the feeling that they were special. The others in the team were lovely too. I have avoided fish and chips for years because I've thought of them as greasy and unhealthy. Route 66 must be the Michelin Star fish and chip shop - brilliant

If you want cod, make sure you ask for a small one, for £6.60. ( The price on the menu ) Otherwise, you'll get a big one, which wasn't on the menu, and it cost £11.40 with a cup of tea. The cod was very nice, but too expensive .

This fish bar is open all day, opening hours 11am--8pm, and easily to find in the main street of Matlock Bath. Taste is good, the price is reasonable and friendly staff. I strongly recommend this fish bar.

Popped in today 17/05/23. They was a fish & chip special for £6 but wanted cod so knew we would have to pay more. 2 cod & chips cost £10 each & were terrible. The fish was ok but could have done with being fried a bit longer but the chips were distgusting! They were very dark in colour & quite scabby as if scraped from bottom of fryer. Will we go again? Definitely not! We should have complained but was in a hurry to set off.

Absolutely amazing service, really friendly and they gave the option to have the cheese melted on the cheesy chips. Would definitely recommend!

I have visited Route 66 Promenade Fish Bar many times before, and as usual last night was a great place for top quality Fish and Chips at a reasonable price. I was with 17 other hungry bikers and we were served promptly and we were lucky to fill all of the tables out side. As a regular at chippies, I noticed just how good the fish was, crispy light batter cooked all of the way round and the fish tasted like the quality usually only found at Whitby or the sea side. The friendly staff served up quickly enabling all 17 of us to be eating together. So well worth a visit with indoor and outdoor seating, as well as take away for anyone wanting to enjoy the great views of The Derwent Valley and Matlock Bath as well as the Illuminations

The very classic British food. Taste great, cheap and worth every penny. The customer service is top. Make you feel very welcomed. We should value this type of service. If in area again, will be back again.

Please avoid. We all came down with horrendous food poisoning shortly after eating here at the weekend.

Mini Fish was haddock, curry was delicious, plenty of seats for us, great friendly service and they remembered me. The Perfect gem amongst many average chippy's.

Called for our lunch yesterday, was hot and tasty crispy batter and the chips were lovely. Absolutely lovely staff and go the extra mile, nice cuppa too. Definitely will go again . see you soon .

First time visit to this establishment. Got to say very impressed with the quality of food. The mini fish and chips by the way were lovely (not re cooked even in winter months 👍)was beautiful and my wife had cod roe followed by a mug...

One of the many Fish and Chip establishments in Matlock Bath so it has to go some to compete with the rest. Inside is standard seating, we sat, five of us at the rear with a view of the kitchen. The Kitchen was clean and tidy and this was at a busy time so this inspired confidence. The staff are excellent, no they really are and go the extra mile to ensure every customer is satisfied. The tea is served in a mug, hot and tasty, just like it should be. We all had the fish and chips, all good, no soggy batter and decent chips. The overall cost was inexpensive. Would go again next time I am in the area.

Lovely food and reasonably priced, had a mini fish special. Comparable to anything I had in whitby last weekend. Curry sauce is what I would call fruity which is pleasant and gravy is lovely.

Oh dear, we called yesterday for my birthday and we sat in for fish chips and fishcakes but I now have a family with food poisoning. When we can get off the loo we will be reporting this. The fishcakes smelt odd at the time and we're really strong. Should have known

We ordered 4 small cods with chips for lunch along with 4 drinks. The bill was approximately £30 which is decent. We waited about 15 minutes for our food. Fish was yummy but oily. The waitress was good as she came up and asked if everything was alright. Location was good too. There are loads of pay and display parking on the main road. But when it’s busy hard to find parking.
