Service was friendly, chips had black bits and fish was extremely greasy. Freezing day and the door wide open whilst waiting.

Have had fish and chips from here a couple of times now, decent portions and tasted good. Would visit again.

DON'T DO IT,the worst chippy I've ever experienced,greasy and tasteless, friendly staff but how anyone can give a positive review about the food is beyond me,I'm far from a serial moaner when reviewing but really feel the need to post this,you have been warned

Chips was dry and lots of bits, fish was dry with no taste, peas had no taste and watered down. The only thing I had eaten that day and finished with bad upset stomach (food poisoning) to expensive too for a small portion.

The worst fish & chips I’ve ever had. Chewy , fish rubbery and dry. Tasteless and greasy. Pricey and top it off , I’ve had upset stomach and have felt quite poorly. Not a good experience

Ordered sausage and chips, the chips were covered in grease, and tasted reheated.The sausage was soft and mushy.

I decided to come here and try out the local chippy, with mixed reviews. I entered and was greeted with a smile, I asked if they did Yorkshire fishcakes and by my surprise they did, however, the scallops was a little undercooked and the fish was quite chewy and crunchy, after finding a bone, it must have been the tail of the fish. Bit was still tasty. I enjoyed the large portion of chips. However, was quite pricey, for chips and a fishcake butty, just under 8 pounds. I definitely would give them another chance.

Stumbled across this place as another one was closed and what I find! 10 out of 10! It was as good as what you get on the coast. We travel up and down the country seeking out great fish n chips and this is one of the best. And we've had a lot of fish n chips... Rick Stein's restaurant should take note.

This chippie definitely lived up to its name. Good portions, not too oily, the food is cooked in fresh oil, friendly service and fair prices.

I'm a veggie, not even a vegan, just veggie. Fish/meat, not for me. All this place can offer is chips and peas. Many other places now realise the age we live in and offer, veggie sausage, or burgers, even battered halloumi! This place doesn't even have cheese pies or potato scallops. Brainless. There may only be a single veggie in a family but they will simply go elsewhere if there is no veggie options. What year are we living in?

The fish and chips are poor and expensive. Greasy, with too much broken up batter. Some chips ok, but over half were brittle. For £ 10.50, best avoid

I went on friday 29th sept Got served by a thai woman who kept getting shouted at by a young girl to check orders ...i got 2 small chips and 2 bread rolls and i have only today seen on my banking app that i was charged £9.60 instead of what it was meant to be around £6 . .what a rip off we wont recommend to anyone else and wont go again ..stay well away 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬..

Worst chipshop I have ever been to. Food was vile, plastic like sausage and chips which later gave a very nasty stomach ache. Wouldn't recommend.

I bought fish and chips from here. Good sized cod but 80% batter. When I eventually located a small portion of fish it was bone dry. The worst chippy I’ve ever been to. Avoid like the plague.

Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Chips were pale and greasy and had absolutely no taste. How do they even manage to do that!! Fish was ok but batter dry and crumbly. Left just about all of mine and not cheap. How can a fish and chip shop survive when they can’t cook fish and chips. I would advise you eat elsewhere.

We order small cod and chips. The chips were very nice and the fish batter was crispy. We really enjoyed it and would recommend.

We visited on Sunday 6th August, ordered 2 lots of Fish, Chips and Peas, they had to be the worst i have ever had, swimming in grease and horrible. The staff were not caring about anything as long as you paid your £23. Yes £23 for 2 takeaway fish, chips and peas. Only ate half and the rest went in the bin, done nothing but vomit since i got home. Obviously will never ever use again.

Probably the worst sausage and chips I’ve had. Reheated chips and black. Sausage tasteless and small than usual and batter falling off. Over priced rubbish. Smile being in hospitality wouldn’t hurt! Shame could be great if they tried harder and cared.

Absolutely disgusting chips, completely inedible. Obviously re-cooked and the cheapest possible potatoes used. Only good thing was they refunded without argument.

Although the staff were friendly and the prices are not unusual for a tourist town, the portion of chips I had weren't cooked properly, and the potatoes were obviously very cheap and not prepared with any care, as most were blackened and full of eyes. Won't be going there, and plenty of alternatives.

Called in on Bank Holiday Monday, the staff were very efficient serving our order which was 2 small cod with chips and another portion of chips & 3 cans of pop. The batter on the fish is probably one of the best batters we’ve ever had it was lovely and crispy no sogginess at all, the chips were nice too and well cooked and not greasy at all. So it’s a thumbs up from us 👍.

The portions were good with the haddock being crisp and a nice size. Was good and would come again.

Just been and had chips to eat with our pies and what kind of chip shop serve up catering chips dry hard and taste like cardboard,didn't eat any of it ,went to put them in the bin on the car park and obviously not the only ones as bin was half full of fish and chips complete waste of money ,never again

Charged my debit card twice for meals, have not returned my calls or refunded overpayment of £15.20!!!

Payment made by card which staff stated had not authorised; asked to pay again with pin number. When checking with my bank I found I had been charged twice for the same meal. Staff were unhelpful and had no idea how to refund my additional payment. Requested the manager contact me - still waiting!

Beautifully cooked fish, chips a bit soggy, but overall good.

My partner ordered whilst I looked after the dog. All seem well as we decided to walk and eat them further down stream on the river beyond the other side of the bridge. Unfortunately the chips were hardly cooked and were only just edible which is a first for me from a chippy. The fish was done very nice and had a good crispy batter but sadly it’s not good enough to get the chips wrong. Luckily the local trout seemed to enjoy the odd hard potato.

This place is over priced and has incompetent staff. Gave my friend food poisoning with under cooked fish, and the chips weres still hard in the middle. I'd give them no stars if it was an option.

Order was wrong for me and the 2 customers before us it seemed - not listening to what was asked for, or else not reading correctly and as a result there wasn't any left for what I actually wanted. Mushy peas not good at all - avoid.

Food was okay but staff were absolutely useless. Took the order down wrong and had to ask me 3 times if I wanted it wrapped or open. Every time I said wrapped and then they presented them open. All the staff looked very young and although they had come from a party and were still under the influence. Wouldn’t visit again

Can't even comment on the food as the service was that shocking we didn't even get any food after a 30 minute wait, then rather than a refund they tried to charge us again . Can only recommend this if you like standing around being ignored

I’ve been eating at this chippy roughly twice a month ever since I returned from living in Sweden two years ago, the food was always well cooked pleasantly served and reasonable value. The last three experiences have been less than satisfactory not sure if it’s changed hands but the staff have certainly changed a lot recently, the food has been lack lustre and the new ridiculously small portion sizes have now become nothing less than farcical. Sadly I shall now vote with my feet and try to find a better local fish and chip shop to satisfy my tastes.

Fish was good but organisation and service at the shop is terrible. Portion sizes not great either, full cod serving was same as the mini cod and the mini cod was not a generous seve.

My husband and I fancied fish & chip supper on a Sunday evening- staying close by this was the only takeaway open. Ordered cod for both of us and a portion of chips to share. Cooked to order and only waited 10 minutes Good size cod and plenty of chips for 2 Very enjoyable

We stopped for a quick bite for lunch and the chips were delicious and if your into battered sausages then these ones are great. I have eaten at some of the finest restaurants in the world and all you can ever ask is that whatever level of food you are eating, it is done to the best standard it can be and this place achieved that in my opinion

Popped in yesterday with our children for a sneaky tray of chips as everyone else in Bakewell had chips..... Glad we did, we were greeted by a lovely lovely who could not have been anymore helpful! He made a fuss of our children and served us wonderfully fresh food, the chips were beautiful and I was hoping for a bite of my Sons's fishfingers......Not a chance! Brilliant food but the man on the front was swearing and being inappropriate after he spilt my chips. Luckily the women working there saved the situation by being lovely and accommodating. I do feel very sorry for the girls who have to work with him though!

Very friendly staff who provided a great fish supper to two very hungry walkers. Some sausage also provided for one small hungry dog! Will be back on my next trip to Bakewell.

The chips we had were hard and dry. There were loads of black ones that were inedible. This is not the first time either. 5 weeks ago when we visited they were exactly the same. I will definitely not be using this shop again.

Just 1 star for the battered haddock and 2 mini-cod... today we bought 3 x fish and chips and without exaggeration they were the worst chips we've tasted for a long time, they had been reheated so many times they were uneatable... dry, hard, dark and the appearance of wood. My partner took her's back and he couldn't see anything wrong with them, I threw mine in the bin, my cousin with us, on holiday from the USA threw hers in the bin too... we returned to this establishment today after enjoying a previous visit, never again!!.... the food today was awful.

The scampi was nice but standard, the chips were VERY good and pretty good value at £2.45 for large with scraps.

Absolutely fantastic Fish and Chips. Our Local for years now. We have a Bakewell event every year and this is the local for all friends. The service, the food, the portion and the prices are faultless. Easily accessible - next door to coop and opposite public toilets and the public car park. Thee perfect location. BEWARE!!! This place is a scam, ran by rude patronising staff who over charge. Chips, mushy peas and fish cake supposed to cost £5.75 instead was charged £7.50 when we argued with the staff he refused he was wrong despite his maths being horrific. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. The food wasn’t great either

I went about 5pm on a Sunday afternoon. It was 29C in the shade outside and it must have been hot as hades beside those fliers. And it wasn’t going smoothly. There was a small issue with someone getting the wrong order (quickly sorted) and...

Don’t bother! Got the order home and 3 items were missing! Yes THREE items! So we paid for food not received. Being honest the fish was good but chips were poor. Can’t comment on the other 3 items as they never supplied them. Tried to phone them about it but they answered and immediately hung up, twice. We are local but will never go there again

According to information in the shop prices went up due to price increase of peas, oil, flour etc. That’s fair but when you put price up cause peas more expensive it would be good to actually have peas in mushy peas not broad beans. Cod was small, fried in lots of batter. I cannot recommend this place as too expensive for what you get.

Awful food (e.g. congealed lumps of beans, very bland mushy peas) and a sulky female server who did not communicate and rolled her eyes when you dare to ask for food wrapped. Training in customer service and improvement of food quality needed.

Me and my wife visited Bakewell on 31st of August and before going home we bought meals at Riverside take away and I chose the mini cod and chips and when eating the fish I found it like rubber and that it was not cooked...

Poor and expensive. I bought a chicken burger and got only the cutlet without the burger, not to mention the sauces.

Nice battered sausage and chips if a bit anemic but oh so slow service. Portion size good, food hot and tasty. Other chip shops within a few yards so you takes your pick really.
