The Brunswick Inn in Derby

Great welcome with real ales and a traditional warm and clean atmosphere. The food was piping hot and nicely served. A short walk from the modernised train station. What’s not to like?

If you are looking for a traditional pub with character and a large choice of independent ales, then this is the place for you. However, sadly the food lets it down. I ordered the cod croquettes which were more like fish cakes which were obviously cooked from Frozen. I also had a ham and mushroom pizza which the base tasted pre-baked. This place is far from a gastro-pub. More like a traditional pub selling a choice of snacks and nibbles.

Great selection of ale and cider. Have spend many a comfortable evening in the Brunswick without ever running out of options for a new tipple

Superb beer and great atmosphere. Always the same anytime of day. Food is good too if you're in there when its serving.

Fantastic ales, but slightly disappointed no food on Mondays.

Visited on Saturday 5th October after travelling to Derby for a night out with friends. We visited this place as it was closest to our hotel. We only went in as we knew there was a dartboard but unfortunately the dartboard wasn't up as they were having a beer festival. We jokingly ask the lad behind the bar "any chance you can move them barrels and get dart board up" the lad with the beard was obviously n a bad mood and rudely replied "what am I meant to do I've got beer barrels there, do you expect me to move them all just for darts" I looked at my buddy and we were like "all right chill out calm down we were just joking" he just looked at us in pure disgust and turned away without serving us. We were eventually served by the other chap on duty. Whilst we were being served another chap had a run in with the same barman. The customer asked for a beer and bag of crisps, obviously making the grumpy barman go out of his way, The barman threw the crisps toward the chap on the other side of the bar to which he replied "you ok pal"? The beer was very nice to be fair I had crybay by super cute brewery and my mate had the cider aspinalls I think. The venue was great to be fair with its own brewery and there was plenty of choice of drinks. Unfortunately the lad behind the bar totally let the place down. He's a lucky lad if I'm honest. If it had been me he threw the crisps at, I would've dragged him over the bar to have a word with.

If you like railway memorabilia it is a goldmine. Multi-room pub with many features taken from the railway. Good beer and nice staff. I didn't try the food but others were doing so with gusto.

Great beer festival....so popular!

Went the beer festival on Wednesday evening great pub , beers were lovely friendly locals and the owner was great .

Came in on the 24/09/24 Fantastic beers as always great food and staff.the only thing I would say is the pub was so cold it cut our visit somewhat.

Went Monday fairly empty went Tuesday very busy, didn’t eat but it’s a great place, 1 of my 2 gotos now when in Derby (Station is well easy walking distance ;-))

We didn’t eat at the Brunswick apart from a packet of crisps but fell in love with the place. Amazing choice of beers. Lots of seating inside. We sat outside in the garden. Very close to the railway station. We saw the beer festival advert for this years beer festival. Sadly we are busy but have put it in our diary for 2025!!

What a great place for a few beers before a curry. Great atmosphere with the locals trying to finish a cryptic crossword. The barlord and locals recommend the Viceroy for a curry. It did not disappoint!

I'd not been to this place in over 20 years but popped in last week - it's not changed at all and is just a good. A 'proper' pub; decent beer, a warm welcome and at a good price too.

What a fantastic real ale pub with a great selection of beers, with a variety brewed on site, and all at a very reasonable price particularly if you’ve got a CAMRA membership. Tried several beers all of which were very tasty and exceptionally well kept. The pub has a traditional feel with several different rooms, and railway associated memorabilia. Staff were very welcoming and helpful with recommendations. Food is available although I only managed the delicious Cheese and Onion Cob. Well worth a visit and handy for both the railway and bus stations.

A good venue at Derby for beer fans: the Brunswick Inn is a microbrewery and has a great and diverse choice of beers, with some of their own. The staff is very nice!

It's ok. Nothing has changed. The owner drinks everyday at the bar.

Great little ale House with well-kept beers & a homesome food menu. Clientele is a bit of the fleece wearing beard sporting type but don't let this put you off

Only stopped off for one drink after maybe 25+ years bud it was nice to get out of the cold in what seems like a real pub I would recommend a visit.

Stopped off to pass the time with a pint & some games of chess on my phone while I waited for my train. Staff was lovely, pints and atmosphere were spot on. Very much enjoyed the brief visit.

Very good traditional pub, excellent range of alcoholic products across the range especially real ales. The menu range is wide ranging and well served. A very good public house all round.

Excellent beer and food. Recommend Brunswick Rocket with Chilli, Chips and Rice. Staff are very friendly and very accommodating for Cyclists.

Staff are friendly. Didn't eat here but this is your standard old school pub. Nothing fancy just a good old fashioned pub to have a pint and chill.

Excellent beer, excellent place.

Famous historical pub very popular for the terrific range of real ales both guest and brewed on premises. Has occasional beer festivals (though every day is a beer festival with 15 hand pulls!) Home cooked food available some lunchtimes and evenings, but check beforehand for availability. We'll worth a visit and popular with locals and regulars alike. As always great selection of real ales. Cannot comment on food. Always worth a visit when in Derby. Sadly road works in October 2023 making it more difficult to access the pub, but hopefully cleared soon!

Bexley's own beer ON TAP for those of us who are coeliac or gluten-free looking for a decent beer 🙂 well done The Brunswick. Also nice grub!

A fantastic old pub (and brewery) with a great selection of real ales at a reasonable price. Food service stops at 7pm but is always tasty. The staff are always very friendly. Get there for one of their beer festivals if you can.

Varied choice of drinks, friendly service and good atmosphere. Haven't had any food but it looks and smells yummy!

Guest beers from breweries far and wide. 16 pumps in action on this vist. If you are in Derby and you like beer and a friendly pub this is the place.

Due to work and other mitigating factors it's been a long long time since I had a pint in the Brunswick Inn. Managed a pint or two of their own Triple Hop ale, which was absolutely bang on! Alas I hope my next visit won't take as long.

In the pub line this is an absolute gem. Spent a pleasant hour there while waiting for a train. I'd encourage anyone who likes a beer or cider to visit.

Great beers.Ideal for a drink before or after a rail journey via Derby Station.

We ate here whilst the car was fixed at Beechwood Suzuki. Good real ale at £3.40 a pint. We ordered the scampi . It came serve in small bowls scampi in a oval dish,chips,salad, tartare sauce in another. A lovely meal eaten outside in the garden on a sunny day. I recommend this place.

Very authentic local place with interesting atmosphere. The beer was nice, eventhough the bartender did not know whats on tap, she let us taste it ;) The burger was fairly good, however I really missed some vegetables, sauce, or pickles from it.

Another must visit pub in Derby which is convenient for the railway station. Unusual building set amongst Britain’s alleged first railway cottages serving great ales and good pub food.

Large choice of ales, some better than others. Cask not Craft, no bad thing. Great food. Gammon, Eggs and chips. Lovely building. Good history on the walls.

Excellent pub. The brilliantly atmospheric Brunswick Inn is one of Derby's iconic pubs. Architecturally stunning with an internal atmosphere that manages to meet expectations. They brew their own beers here and I highly recommend sampling them all. Easily one of the best pubs in Derby.
