Had my first bottomless brunch experience here and loved it! Good food and my prosecco glass was never dry. Made all the better by a fun and engaging server in Mercedes, who joined in the jokes and worked well to accommodate additional requests.

I have been here on multiple occasions, but WONT be back again! Shambles from the start, cocktails tasted like cheap alcohol and after running a restaurant I know mai tai was NOT supposed to taste like. Supposed to be aged rum, tasted like cheap paint stripper. Hurricane was acceptable but not tasty. Starters were very basic, frozen fried calamari and pate with rock hard croustini, no butter. For the mains, skate wing was shocking, no seasoning, texture of paste, looked boiled. Returned to kitchen. Broccoli was the best thing on the £18 plate. Lamp rump was cold and bland, no just provided until requested. Was told it was a steak originally but once served we realised it was a lamb rump. Told waitress it was cold but no offer to heat or change. Packet mash potato. Actual steak was dry, peppercorn sauce was watery, chips were soggy. Pork belly turned out to be a crusty roulade, which still had the elastic string around it, basically a cheap roast dinner with under cooked carrots. Had better at work canteens. Final bill was £150, and we all left to get a takeaway. Waste of time and money. Used to really like this place but won’t be back

Mercedes was a fantastic host! Very fun and also the food was great. But the star of the show was definitely mercedes.

Went for my birthday today which we have been doing for many years. Never disappointed. Food, service, ambience always excellent. Darren and his staff are attentive but not intrusive. We always acknowledge the chefs on our way out which they appreciate. If you haven’t been you must it is a lovely community based bistro.

The food here is really nice and feels like it’s been thoughtfully prepared. I had the haloumi burger and the seasoning was nice, as was the bun. The skin-on rosemary fries were perfect. The drinks selection is great here - lots of wines and cocktails to choose from (it was difficult to decide what to have). The Amaretto spritzer was lovely. The decor’s really nice. I liked watching the world go by from the glass room at the front of the bistro. It was very busy when we were there and at times it felt like there wasn’t enough staff. Because of this, I’d recommend this more as a place for a leisurely meal (not really a problem though with the drink selection, can while away the time fine!).

Lovely food. Very pleasant & attentive staff. Regrettably one customer unbelievably loud & fond of profanity.which negatively impacted the atmosphere.

The veggie breakfast was good, so was the service. However, it is no longer dog friendly.

Shame about the very salty filling of the beef pie which otherwise would have been very good. Rest of the meal was good. Music was a bit loud. The serving staff were friendly and attentive.

We don't normally leave reviews but after reading some comment's here we thought we would share our experience. As we are repeat customers that have visted this bistro on many occasions for Dinner,lunch and breakfast with the occasion take away thrown in here and there we have never had anything other than a fantastic meal combined with great service. Last night was no different, we arrived 7 min early and was shown straight to our table, I would like to add we had comfortably past other tables and one had a pram at the end where this family looked to be enjoying themselves. The service was excellent and the staff was very attentive, we had a jug of water and our menu before our alloted 7:30 table time. A waitress came and took our drinks order in minutes of sitting down and game back shortly afterwards to take our food order. We finished our starter and mains in good time and was asked on both occasions if the food was OK? I jokingly said the starter was awful to which they offered a replacement as I was laughing with a empty plate as I obviously enjoyed the bruschetta and my wife loved her calamari, My fillet steak was cooked perfectly and the chips were piping hot, My wife really enjoyed her halloumi burger(she has had this many times and has never been disappointed). When it came to dessert I personally wasn't fancying anything as sadly my only complaint was that there was no cheesecake which is my go to but there was plenty other options and when it came there was no complaints, I had the chocolate fondant which was perfectly done and my wife had the meringue. I'm sure reading this the SUIT 😂 can be proud that his staff last night were a credit to the buisness, as the suit wasn't present for the first time in the many years we've been for food. Thanks for the great experience as always we will be back again.

My dad really liked his steak, my mum had a burger and it was fine but my salad was awful: tasteless and limp and covered in a bland mayo dressing. I couldn’t go again the prices were high and the food very hit or miss.

Voy a tratar de recrear las verduras frescas, el guarnición de puerro vegetal... pero el bistec, cocinado a la perfección... ¡un poco de guiño a Jamie, y el pastel que mi amigo tenía estaban realmente bien cocinados! Uno para visitar y a £ 19. 99 por dos platos seria buena relación calidad-precio.

We had bean meaning to go here for a while and was looking forward to it. The restaurant was busy they cram lots of tables in which make it look even busier. The staff were very attentive and polite. But it was the food where I feel let it down. The starters were ok we had prawns and calamari. For mains it was the lamb and pork belly. The temperature of the food was poor as it was not hot enough. The plates were cold which also didn’t help. It also could have done with more seasoning. Overall we did not enjoy the experience enough to return any time soon.

We booked a family meal to celebrate a big birthday on a Saturday lunchtime for 13. It was a very easy process to make our menu choices ahead of time. Service from Mercedes on the day was excellent and the food was all delivered as ordered and was well presented and good quality. A great visit we would recommend.

Lovely breakfast and atmosphere, could recommend the pancakes and fruit . Sitting in the conservatory lets you feel as if you are in the Mediterranean rather than the middle of Whitchurch!

Lovely welcoming Staff from the get go!! The Brooks Bistro salad isn’t just a salad….its a filling concertina of flavours. Prosecco with the bottomless brunch was fresh and fruity and didn’t taste like the mediocre bubbly often used at other restaurants. Thank you for a great lunchtime x

Brook Bistro the place to go when you want relax and enjoy yourself in the company of family or friends. The place is always full of people who are enjoying the food and atmosphere. The food is always excellent and the staff always go an extra mile to make sure you are happy.

Beautiful food and excellent service. However, I had to query the bill as I had been charged for a dessert that I did not have. Unfortunately, the dessert I requested was not available. My friend booked the table and we were rather taken aback when the main lights were switched on in what appeared an attempt to hurry us out. It was only 21.20pm. Disappointing.

Including a service charge on the bill means you will never get a 5 star from me. American pancake breakfast option was nice but the meat portion of the meal was minimal.

We went for brunch and really enjoyed the experience. The decor was lovely, creating a welcoming atmosphere. I had the vegetarian breakfast, and my daughter had pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Everything was beautifully presented, and the ingredients felt thoughtfully chosen. It's a great spot for a relaxed meal!

I was debating leaving a poor review, & when I read the owners responses to low scoring reviews and saw how rude they were, it made it clear to me that certain employees/owners there feel very comfortable to be rude to customers from behind a computer screen AND in person. So I now feel compelled to share my experience. I chose not to leave 1 star as the food was good and the waitresses were very polite, even making efforts to entertain my 10 month old son which was much appreciated. We paid the service charge in the hope that they would receive this. I never leave a bad review after one experience but this was our second poor experience and was particularly embarrassing and also infuriating for my partner and I. Most of my reviews are positive. On the first experience my pregnant partner was served alcoholic beer when we made it very clear that it had to be non-alcoholic (lager was her craving), also a waitress tripped over me while I was eating my food, due to too many tables being crammed into the room. But we were happy to forgive this. When we visited yesterday we were around 15 minutes late, we phoned ahead before our booking and were told that it will be fine, it also states on the booking site that this is fine. The other 6 people we were meeting we already in attendance. When we walked through the door we were met by the manager (man in a blue suit) or concierge or whatever he is. We told him the booking name and everything seemed okay. Until I tried to walk through the restaurant with a pram. This infuriated the suited man. He said to us "why didn't you tell us you were bringing a baby? That pram won't fit in the restaurant and now I have to find a high chair!" We regularly go for meals and we have never been told off for bringing a pram and a baby! If we needed to make them aware of this then it should be stated on the booking form. There is no option to add a baby onto your group. There is a special request section but as we've never had an issue before we assumed that we wouldn't need to mention it, as there was no indication on the form. I advise that this is updated. The tone that he spoke to us in front of the whole restaurant was embarrassing and infuriating as we felt that it was unnecessary. I just wanted to get away from the rude suit and in a fluster I tried to walk through the restaurant to meet our friends. As the tables are crammed in so close together I got stuck with the pram not even half way and stopped all of the kitchen team being able to serve the tables. Adding to my embarrassment. If we weren't meeting friends I would have walked straight back out. The suit then proceeded to tell us off again advising that we had to collapse the pram so they could store it away. I walked back through the restaurant, sweating at this point because the heating was on full blast. I took the pram apart to make it as small as possible. He took it away, we ate and we left. I could see that the suit was stressed and the pram/baby made him even more stressed but it's not our fault that too many tables are crammed into the restaurant. Had he politely asked us to collapse the pram, we would have had a nice experience. Sadly it resulted in the rudest interaction I've ever experienced in a hospitality setting. I'm already anticipating a rude response. You like to refer to CCTV to suit your side of the story. Obviously I don't have this tool to support my claim and unless you are recording sound (I hope not!) then it doesn't actually prove anything. However before you mention it I would like to know where I can find your CCTV policy please. This is required by law for GDPR purposes. I can't see anything on your website. Also, as I've mentioned a few times, there are far too many tables crammed into the main room and this raises a lot of Health and Safety concerns. I assume that you have an in date fire risk assessment? And this would highlight that wheelchair users cannot use the restaurant as they cannot exit safely and quick enough? This would be extremely dangerous. Looking forward to your response.

The venue was beautiful, the staff friendly and good quality ingredients used. It was a bit pricey for what we ordered, however I guess you pay for the experience too.

Fantastic night out at the Brook Bistro for my 50th Birthday, amazing food and amazing service. Had the outside / conservatory all to ourselves, so it was effectively private dining. There were 20 of us in all, all the meals came out at the same time and were all faultless - and everyone was blown away with the quality. Highly recommended!!

Overcharged, waited far too long for food, poor attitude of serving staff

The brook bistro is the gift that keeps on giving. Their menu choices are amazing, every meal I have had there, I have loved, and there have been a lot over the years. A special mention to the newest starter on the menu; goats cheese and mushroom croquettes and of course, the delicious chicken supreme! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the decor is beautiful and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The new terrace area transformation is stunning and I will be a return customer for years to come. If you are in Cardiff and you haven’t been there before, you’re missing out!

The experience was nice, however the gluten free version was not gluten free, as a Ceolic this makes us very ill. Would not recommend.

Spent a wonderful New Years Eve at the Brook Bistro. We always enjoy coming here as the food is great and they are very dog friendly. 3 course meal at £49.95pp was good value for money but a glass of spritz/mocktail on arrival would have been a nice touch. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal (scallops, monkfish, lemon posset). My lemon posset was slightly runny at the bottom, don't think it was quite set. The flavour was gorgeous though. Overall, we loved our evening and would consider spending new year's eve there again.

Myself and friends attended for a catch up after just moving back to the area. From booking till the after dinner mints we had a flawless experience. My wife absolutely adored Chloe and all the cheeriness she showed serving us and others in the restaurant. What a great job she did. food was absolutely beautiful. You could tell the produce was fresh. Portion for myself was perfect, a little on the large side for my wife, although very much worth the price my wife would have preferred a smaller option at a slightly lower price. Will definitely book again

Me and my partner came here for brunch and we were both blown away by how good the food was. The staff were kind and attentive, the seating and atmosphere was comfortable and warm and the food was outstanding. They even had Big Thief and Sufjan Stephens playing in the background so they get extra points for great music taste also. Highly recommend, can't wait to return.

Visited the Brook on two different occasions. First was in November and the food was beautiful. We both had a burger and a side of some fancy truffle fries to share. Our second visit was today 28th of Dec and we both ordered a Fillet Steak. I had a side of Cauliflower cheese and my partner some chips. The steaks were cooked to perfection and melted like butter. The black pepper & brandy sauce was delightful. The staff were also friendly and polite on both visits. Though even in a not too busy environment, it felt a little hard to get their attention sometimes and they seemed to all vanish when you needed something. This wasn’t such an issue in our second visit as we were in the conservatory, so they were attentive as possible. My only personal issue as per the menu(pictured), the steak, along with its accompanying tomato & mushrooms, were on a bed of drizzled Balsamic Vinegar. I have a few very specific strong food aversions and the balsamic drizzle wasn’t mention on the menu. So the smell alone made it rather hard to enjoy the rest of my meal, but thankfully after moving my food to the clean side of the plate and drowning it in the sauce pot, I couldn’t taste the balsamic. I didn’t say anything at the time as I genuinely enjoyed what I had and am incredibly anxious at the thought of being awkward or problematic but I feel from a dietary req perspective, if it’s going to be on the plate, it should be listed on menu. Just to limit disruption to the kitchen and people feeling awkward because they need to second guess what might come out to them. I don’t want to have to second guess every meal or ask if x, y or z will be on the plate every time I eat out. While this is a very niche req, hence the 4 stars for me, I would still say it is a lovely dining establishment and would encourage locals to pay a visit.

Every dish was cooked to perfection, with flavours that left us wanting more. We left completely satisfied and can’t wait to visit again. A true gem!

I arrived without a booking on a very busy day for the restaurant, however I was able to have a table for lunch. The staff were very friendly & there was a good choice food. The food was excellent, & presented well. This was my first visit, but won't be my last. The restaurant & restrooms were clean and tidy.

They have just cancelled a table for 6 saying they had a power cut. One of our friends that was supposed to eat here with us went past and noticed there were people eating in there and the electric was on. Would just like to add that before the owner decided to reply to me, the one that wrote the review, he phoned my friend and said I wrote this on her behalf. I did not write it on her behalf as I have my own mind. Whilst he was trying to say sorry for cancelling us, he was rude and aggressive and told her to take the review down. As she got off the phone, she was teary-eyed. We did try to phone the 2 numbers we had for them to ask why they were still serving but could not get through. She was contacted on a third number, which is very confusing. So dear Mr Owner, may I suggest you brush up on your customer skills so this does not happen again. Please feel free to contact me. One of my favourite restaurants. Even as the dreaded Christmas menu arrives, you can rely on the Brook Bistro to still produce the favourites. Between us, we had fillet steak, lamb, and monkfish, all prepared to the highest quality. Yes, on this occasion, I succumbed to the Christmas pudding, which was creatively presented and delicious tasting. I'm also pleased to see the availability of red wine by the glass has been extended in range.

I must say dinner was out standing But us 22 people mainly volunteers from Cancer research spend at least £1,000 on food and drinks.But were give a £57 service charge which I think is disgusting and over the top.Will never go there again.

Enjoyed a wonderful family brunch. The food was tasty and the atmosphere, festive.

Booked a table for get together with large group of friends. Easy and efficient to deal with. Service friendly and everyone enjoyed their food which is a bonus as there's usually something with a large table order that doesn't go to plan. One thing to note though is the portions are on the generous side so probably not somewhere to go if you are on a diet.

Amplio menú - entrante de vieiras era lleno de sabores, plato principal de pollo era sabroso y para cuando llegamos al postre decidimos que una porción de helado entre dos sería suficiente (teníamos razón). Una visita muy agradable ayudado por el personal amable y a algún lugar que me gustaría volver pronto.

Absolutely loved the food, beautiful presentation and delicious. Had the carrot & ginger soup, Glamorgan sausages and Pork Belly. Lovely venue and service was impeccable, especially Olivia who went out of her way to make sure our food arrived at the same time and we were well looked after!

Partner and I first time coming here. The service relieved by Brandon was very good he was very helpful and checked in sufficiently. The food itself was superb. We had starters and mains….no more room for desserts. Will definitely be returning…nice atmosphere too in the gazebo with the fire next to us! 5 star!!

Hmm the evening for us started badly - got better and then got worse again. We went here for a celebratory meal for our anniversary. When we arrived we were offered a table right next to the door in the path of everyone and also told we had to vacate it just over an hour later! This had definitely not been told to us when we booked. We obviously declined and opted to sit out on the terrace. (Which in fact was a good option as the two inside rooms have so many tables crowded together you would constantly be knocked by people/servers going past - the noise level is also very high with so many people in a smallish space.) The waiter who served us first was lovely - in fact all the staff were, the problem being that there were just not enough of them by the time the restaurant was full. We had arrived early so did not realise just how busy it would get. Our starters and mains were very nice - although by the time the mains arrived the staff were stretched - my husband had to go and find someone as the promised sauce had not arrived after about 15 minutes by which time I had eaten most of the meal before it got cold. We could see the staff were busy and we were not in a particular hurry but when the plates had still not been cleared about 3/4 hour later and we had not ordered a pudding, we asked one of the staff. They cleared and brought the pudding menu but by then we felt we had had enough and decided to go home for some ice cream. If you like a very noisy busy place and dont mind waiting a long time its for you - but it is not somewhere I would recommend for a romantic evening!!

We were seated at our booked table at 6.30 and waited and waited for nearly 3/4 hour for our order to be taken . then had to ask the waiter to come over to take it. When it finally came it was missing the veg. ??? When asked the waiter were they were he said it didn't come with veg. It clearly did as it checked on the.menu.. as soon as we had finished our meal we where asked to move off the table as it was only booked till 8.30 (I wasn't aware of this) it doesn't seem right as we had to wait in the first place for our meal. The staff were rude and we asked for the tip to be moved off the bill. The reaction to that request was childish and unacceptable. Will not consider going again until the current ownership

Food was delicious, nice varied menu and very reasonably priced. We had a starter, main, pudding and one alcoholic drink each which with a 10% service charge came to just over £50 a head. Ate here while staying in Cardiff for just one night and absolutely made the right choice! Sorry we're not closer to come back again!

Had a two course meal with friends last night. Amazing atmosphere, steak cooked to perfection and the staff were so friendly and engaging! 10/10. My only criticism is that it’s not easy to park (this is coming from someone who doesn’t know the area).

I’ve been here a couple of times now and this place does not disappoint! The food was perfect and the restaurant is beautiful. The staff are lovely really helpful and always polite. Would recommend this place to everyone 10/10 👌

As always fabulous food. Starter and Sunday Roast delicious. First class service. The brook Bistro never disappoints. Lovely relaxing friendly atmosphere. The salted caramel brownie is absolutely divine!

Best breakfast I've had in years

This is my wife's review based on her visit with a friend on Friday night. It was an early evening booking and was OK until the last 10 minutes. The food was OK given it was an early evening special value menu. They were finishing their last glass of wine when the bill was brought without asking for it. Their table then became under surveillance from the restaurant manager who announced that they had outstayed their allotted time and the table was needed for other guests. When challenged, as there was no mention of time limit on the online booking and nothing had been mentioned previously, he became increasingly indifferent. This gave them a strong feeling of 'we've had your money now you need to go'. In their experience, this is completely unprofessional and rude. Handled the right way, they could have finished their wine on the terrace and not had the evening spoiled by his unwelcoming behaviour. We are firm believers in 'you reap what you sow' and we are part of the local hospitality industry. Brook Bistro was in some information that is shared with visitors to the area who are looking for somewhere to eat locally. Following this unnecessary and upsetting experience, it has been deleted.
