We visited as a family of 5 adults and dog. Lots of space, water brought (unrequested) for the dog, perfect service for the whole time we were there. The staff were all smiles and so welcoming. We all had Sunday roasts, amazing veg selection and roasties, wonderful desserts, and a lovely Macon Villages for a great price. (I've scored 4/5 stars as there was only a tiny amount of meat, and we requested one extra stuffing ball which we were told would be an extra charge). As I said, everything else, including easy parking, was perfect and we will definitely return.

Excellent steak and ale pie, and lovely "proper" pub to enjoy dinner in. Will drop in again next time we visit family in the town. The missing star is because the kids' pasta was basically sauce with a few bits of broken pasta - and when they didn't like the sauce, they didn't eat much as it was 90% sauce, so that was a bit of a waste.

This village pub has a cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. The menu is quite short but the chicken, ham and leek pie and beef short rib that we ordered were delicious and came in generous portions. Our only complaint (and it’s very minor) is that the chairs were too low for the table which made it awkward to eat, but they do add to the rustic vibe of the place. Looking forward to coming back here again in future - perhaps when the weather is better so we can try out the pub garden!

Bank holiday Monday evening trying to find somewhere that serves food is difficult. Well The British Queen didn’t disappoint. We had the daily special chicken curry which was really outstanding. The portions were enormous and the food was presented beautifully on a large wooden board with rice, naan, tomato salad and chutney. Top marks to the chef. Bar staff very friendly too.

In the past I have had some **excellent** food here! However, last night was atrocious. The pub was no more busy than you'd expect on any random Friday night, infact from what I could see there were only about 10 tables actually having food. We were shown to our table and were given our drinks and order was taken. Then we waited...... and waited....... and waited. At no point were we told that was a delay or wait for food, which to be fair would have gone some way to placate us. Literally no staff even acknowledged us after the order had been placed. The table next to us clearly said "How long have been waiting, almost an hour now? If they would have saod we wouldnt have ordered" And somehow were calling and texting the chef!! Had the chef not been on the phone to his mates all night, the food might have actually been cooked a bit quicker! I understand that things can go wrong and delays happen, but we were waiting for an hour and a half for 2 Pizzas, that's it just 2 pizzas!! The bar staff were stood around behind the bar talking and I couldn't make out what the delay was. Getting fed up and very hungry I eventually found a man I believe to be the manager and said to him "We've been waiting for an hour and half, this is a joke I want to cancel the order". He didn't even look at me and said "Yeah sure" and walked off to the kitchen, not even any apology or an attempt to get the food out to us. Before there is a response of "why didn't you ask to see the manager" as I said he shuffled off to the kitchen, when I went to the bar to pay for our drinks he disappeared through a door at the rear of the bar. Like I've said I have had some great food here before but after last night it's unlikely I will return.

Room no. 3 was spacious and nicely decorated. The bathroom is small, but adequate. It’s modern and there is a window that opens. The beds were good and it was comfortable. We stayed 3 nights. I have no complaints about the room. I do have issues with lack of management. Because some places provide housekeeping and some don’t, while we were having dinner, I asked in the pub. There was no “official” manager with whom to check in, greet, or ask a question, I was told there was housekeeping—beds made, trash emptied. After a long day we discovered there had been no tidying up. In the morning, the laundry person told me that they did not offer housekeeping. If I needed soap or towels I could have them. At breakfast day 2 we were told we had not completed our breakfast order. I replied we had not received a breakfast form for for day 1, day 2, (or day 3). Chef decided we didn’t need one. Cold breakfast was packaged Kellogg products. Hot breakfasts were cooked to order and well done. There was never fresh fruit. My most serious issue occurred at 9:30am on day 2 in the parking lot when some staff member took it upon themself to notify the manager that someone was loitering. I was standing inside the door to the pub while my partner was looking for a dear friend to pick us up. A woman with a dog showed up wanting information. It ended well enough, but in hindsight it was intimidating. Finally, while the room was clean, the grounds by the pub and the room were covered with cigarette butts. It is gross. Spiders have decorated all the light fixtures by room doors.

Popped in on Saturday to grab some lunch. Having eaten here many a time I was looking forward to a nice meal. Sadly our lunch was not meant to be. My friend ordered a ham and mustard sandwhich, the bread was dry and stale, and swimming in mustard. The chips were barely warm and tasted off. When I asked for Gluten Free option's I was told there weren't any - the manager behind the bar was rude and dismissive. Sadly I won't be returning.

Was looking for somewhere around Meldreth to take a lady out for her 91st birthday, The lunchtime menu at the British Queen was not really suitable for this lady, when asked if instead an afternoon tea could be possible this was no problem for the staff at this pub. Up until 2019, this was a SUPERB pub. On the weekends, people would play Pétanque on a purpose-built sand pit whilst dog-walkers would come and go across the vast green behind the pub that backs onto the sparkling river Mel. The feel was pure bucolic bliss - ordinary wooden benches freely strewn across the lawns in an unfussy way. Now... 2 huge marquees now permanently sit behind the pub, blocking the view down to the river (which has been cut off by a locked gate and wire). The Pétanque arena has been closed and signs everywhere say 'no trespassing'. Gone is the lovely, relaxed vibe. To add salt to the wound, those generic rocks-in-a-cage-walls have been built and now encapsulate a tiny, restricted 'garden' that might be found anywhere in a London or other metropolitan gastro-pub. Inside, the bar is diminished. Gone are the old, rustic tables and settles. Instead, a gaudy glass door, completely at odds with the old, traditional feel, now dominates the bar area like a bloated zircon on a fine finger. The walls, now painted and caked with every pastel colour known to man, complete the picture of a pub that has lost its way in the search for money. I'm not saying this is now a bad pub; it has just become like 'every other' pub. Another one has gone.

Three of us had lunch today and the food was nice. However, the fruit cider we ordered was ordinary cider. The bacon, Brie and cranberry paninis we ordered were Brie and tomato, then to finish off the lattes were cold! I tried to speak to the manager and he said someone would come to us…The young waitress was apologetic. When I paid I expected the manager to ask if everything was alright, which happens at every other restaurant in the world. Surprise surprise he didn’t. In summary, nice pub, nice food, dreadful customer service.

We have eaten at the British Queen several times over the last month and have nothing but praise for this traditional British pub. On a Friday night the bar area is bustling and has s great vibe and appears to be the hub of the village. The menu has been well thought out and a step above many other pubs who take the easy option of just offering burgers, pizza, sausages and mash, lasagne and fish/scampi and chips. My partner loved the chorizo and mussels linguine, the steak and ale pie is the best I’ve ever tasted and the chicken ballotine is also really tasty. Think I will try the roasted cod loin on our next visit. The service is top notch, whether eating in the small restaurant area or the bar and food is delivered to the table in perfect time. I have nothing but praise for what the pub offers and how it is run. It also has a fire pit outside and a large marquee for alfresco dining if you are that way inclined. I am so glad that this jewel of a pub is close by and wish them all the success in the world during these difficult times, they deserve it.

Out for Sunday Roast (my personal favourite meal!). First time at this pub and was told that it was warm and cosy, Yes it was downstairs but our pre-booed table was upstairs in a cold room!!! Our aim was to have a traditional Sunday Roast but the only roast available was beef. OK came eventually and I will admit at first glance there seemed to be plenty of thickly cut beef. However it was very rare and unfortunately hubby is not a great beef fan and I think this has turned him off even more!! In addition the vegetables which where on the menu as seasonal veg turned out to be chunks of swede, turnip with an odd smattering of carrot, plus a dull stir fry with shredded bacon. Most bizarre. NOT the traditional roast that we were looking for, so greatly disappointed. On a good note the waiter`was very helpful with all our requirements.

We had a family get-together of 20 people for an early Christmas lunch on the Saturday before. We were given the upstairs room to ourselves as there were a number of small children who could then run around and play without disturbing other guests. everything was beautifully managed: the food was really excellent; staff were sympathetic and accommodating; prices very reasonable indeed. Had a Sunday meal here and although it was decent it could have been better. The staff are good, very friendly, attentitive and interactive. The menu is stacked with the usual pub grub and a traditional Sunday lunch. Mrs W had the lamb, which was a surprise to me! and she didn't really enjoy it, said it could have been cooked a bit longer. I went for the staek and ale pie which was nice but the pastry was a bit thick and the portion a bit small, but I guess for the price was pretty good value. We had deserts, a bit pricey again £5-50 for ice-cream. We enjoyed it mostly but just feel it could offer that little bit more.

I recently eat here with a couple of friends, all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I've been trying to drag my friends back, so I could once again sample the best sticky toffee pudding I've ever had. Too busy to join me and not wanting to dine alone. I rang the BQ on the off chance they might let me order my favourite pudding as a takeaway.

We visited at lunch time and choose to sit in the dining area, which although small is nicely laid out and everyone had enough elbow room.

I visited this fine establishment twice over the weekend as I was attending a music festival a short walk from the pub. The food was fantastic on the Friday, but I was even more overjoyed that they also serve gluten free pizza. Both my husband and I had the pizza on the Saturday - mine was vegan and gluten free as I'm allergic to dairy and wheat and don't eat meat. He had an italian pepperoni one. And wow! what amazing and tasty pizzas they were too. The crust was absolutely gorgeous: flavoursome with a pleasant doughiness and crispy outside. I have never tasted better and there were a lot of 'oohs' and 'ahs' as we consumed our wonderful food. Staff were nice too. Definitely coming back!

Have eaten here many times whilst Keith was manager and always enjoyed. We booked and went with an open mind and thought the changes to pub were great. New outside area, decor changes etc.

I popped into the pub on Sunday afternoon for an impromptu drink with my wife. It soon became apparent lots of others had had the same idea and the pub was incredibly busy. Not letting that deter us we headed inside to the bar for some drinks and this is where the problems began. We were completely ignored by bar staff who blatantly served other more familiar customers before us despite us being there first. When we did eventually get served the barmaid was abrupt to the point of rudeness. Nevertheless we enjoyed our drinks in the lovely garden area and thought no more about it. That is until the experience was repeated when I returned to the bar for a refill. I stood there waiting whilst bar staff chatted to 3 other familiar customers and prioritised their service despite me being their first. This happening once can be forgiven as mistakes like this can easily happen at busy times, but for this to happen 2 out of 2 visits to a bar by the same member of staff is poor customer service. My advice to the British Queen would be to sort out your customer service, your facilities are excellent but it’s poor practice when your bar staff prioritise socialising at the bar over serving new customers who are left waiting. Needless to say we won’t be returning.

The British Queen is a beautiful village Pub, with its own restaurant which has a fantastic selection of food to suit everyone. The Pub is set in beautiful surroundings, with plenty of room for children to play whilst you enjoy a drink, also extremely popular with dog walkers.

We stopped off for lunch after visiting the Wimpole Estate. The choice of sandwiches was excellent and the chips were so delicious I’d go back for those alone! The staff were welcoming and the pub has loads of charm. Highly recommended!

Had Saturday lunch here yesterday, very friendly staff and management. Nice menu plenty of options. They have a small restaurant area we decided to sit in the pub area for our lunch. All of the food was prepared fresh and tasted delicious. The burgers were absolutely fabulous. Good size portions, a nice fire was going made it feel very warm and inviting. If your driving plenty of parking. If you want to eat in the restaurant you need to book as this place can get very busy.

The menu choices are good - something for everyone. The food was exceptional - by far the best food we've had in a pub. The service was quick and friendly even though the restaurant was busy. We had a lovely evening and will definitely be returning,

This is a wonderful place to come and eat delicious soulful Vegetarian / vegan food and the coffee is great too! I was attending medical treatment locally from overseas and I was researching healthier dining options as I am tired of the usual Italian, Pizza, Burger establishments and I came across Miss Green Fingers that looked perfect so I that helped me choose where I booked my accommodation. The cafe was fantastic! As I was travelling alone it can be a bit daunting visiting a completely new area but they made me feel so welcome and made me the most delicious takeaway meals to take back to my hotel, the oat milk porridge with date syrup was a particular favourite along with the salads. It also boasts a little shop which is perfect for picking up healthier drinks & snacks but has the most amazing selection of Montezuma chocolates for a treat too! ;-) Just a shame they don't have a branch in Kenya!

David's Bookshop is so much more than a book shop. As well as books they also have a music shop where you can by new and second hand CD's and vinyl. They also have a coffee shop where you can get drinks and snacks. It's a really nice place to have a mooch about looking for books and music and then once you have completed your purchase then you can pay for it and get a drink to treat yourself for your new purchases. The prices of the drinks and snacks are very reasonable so it is the perfect place to visit.
