We came here for a family lunch on Sunday 1st September and had a really great experience - we were seated on the roof terrace, which was lovely given the great weather, and the food and drinks were all of a really high standard, and were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. However, the other stand out here was the service, so a big shout out to Emily Farrow, as she was simply brilliant - nothing was too much trouble, she was so friendly, remaining professional and polite, and it is only when you receive such good service that you realise what a difference it makes to the overall experience, so great job!

Visited on Sunday, the 25th of August. Once we arrived, we were greeted by a waitress who led us to our table. Considering the restaurant was mostly empty, they seated us in the middle of the passageway, which we did not appreciate as we were looking for something cozier. We ordered six oysters as a starter, one chili & crab pasta, and one sea bass with veggies as mains. It took them 25 minutes to bring the oysters, which we thought was outrageously long, and after that, it took them another 35 minutes to bring the mains. No one cared to let us know why it took so long or simply to inform us that the food was on the way. To note, locals dining there had their food brought within 20 minutes of ordering. They offered us half a glass of Prosecco and a Coke, just refilling our glasses without bothering to give us new, clean ones. Not a nice touch. The food was okay, but it missed salt; the pasta was overcooked, and the sea bass was too dry. We then paid the absurd sum of £136. Absolutely a rip-off—will not eat there again.

Only recently discovered this absolute gem! My partner and I recently attended for dinner and were lucky to sit outside on the balcony terrace. A really beautiful spot with fantastic service and great food. As small as it looks from the outside, the wonderful hidden outside area really is a highlight of Richmond! (Resident)

Surprise hidden gem tucked in one of the little cobbled lanes off Richmond Green. From the outside you would think it's your usual British pub, but once you step inside and see the crisp linen on the tables you know you're somewhere much more special. Staff are very friendly and listen attentively to your needs. Menu is superb, and food itself is delicious. Great wine list too with some interesting cocktail mixes you wouldn't find anywhere else.

Lovely lunch and bargain £28 quid for 2 course lunch. Food very nice, but on the rich side.

We had a lovely evening in their well-presented back terrace garden. Chloe, Jack and James made us feel very welcome and were attentive and helpful. The quality of the food was excellent. It's rare to find a varied an interesting menu these days that isn't overly expensive. We had the chateaubriand which was cooked perfectly medium rare and was delicious. My only reservation is the price of wine but then that seems to be par for the course these days.

Gastropub two terraced. Well modernised old pub that I used to go two. Attentive staff. Great upper terrace especially if you don't mind noise of planes! Food ok but slightly average and could become more finessed

The herb soufflé is out of this world. None of had eaten anything remotely like it before. Sensational! All of our meals were wonderful too. And we had a fabulous waiter. An all around wonderful place to gather with family and friends to dine. Particularly in the back garden.

First time at The Britannia after being it being recommended by family. It was my partner's birthday . From start to finish the whole experience was first class. Exceptional service by all the staff, delicious food and beautiful setting (I had asked for a nice table as it was for a birthday and we were given a table on the roof terrace - stunning!) . Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our visit and would not hesitate to recommend.

Terrific attention from staff. An almost full house but was served without delay. Food lived up to expectations and ambiance perfectly suited the Saturday evening crowd. We will be back

Great find in the centre of Richmond. Ate some excellent food whilst sitting on a very pretty first floor terrace. Lovely staff. Definitely book again.

Delicious, well put together quality food. The only reason for a four star is the cost. Not cheap at £60 a head for three starters, 1 main course and a bottle of wine between two. Nevertheless a nice treat

Highly recommend this place - great value and amazing food. Friendly, efficient service and lovely outside eating space. We all had the two course set menu and really enjoyed it.

Lovely ambience on roof terrace. Very welcoming staff. Food gaspatchio, soufle. Fish and chips and pannacotta all competent but not exceptional especially the fish and chips where the batter to my taste was too heavy and the cod a touch undercooked. We enjoyed it and will return. A great place for meeting friends so almost there!

I've visited The Britannia Richmond many times over the years. The service and food quality is consistently good. I dined with two friends and we enjoyed our meals. Tara was very knowledgeable about the menu and could highlight dishes that my vegan friend could eat and ones that suited me as I'm wheat intolerant. The ambience is wonderful. We sat upstairs on the terrace but there's also a garden downstairs and both outdoor areas are well equipped to cater for a sudden downpour of rain.

Tasty Sunday roast with fantastic service all-round. Try the tiramisu it was huge!

The best roast in Richmond! Excellent food and outstanding customer service set on an outdoor terrace, having dined multiple times this restaurant never fails to impress, highly recommended.

A good meal once again with professional, friendly service in classic surroundings... we only swerved the lovely garden terrace because of the weather. However what we did find was that the menu, wine and service charges seemed to have been well ramped up since our last visit. We all felt we would want to see better value for a return lunchtime visit.

Amazing as always, Oli and his team always do a great job to make us feel welcome and it’s still the best place in Richmond to get a steak! Chateau was absolutely lovely and the wine list phenomenal as well. :)

Great food, great service, nice location but a gastro restaurant lets dogs in? There were 3 in there when we went - 2 were ok, 1 was wandering around not on a lead. Personally I don’t like dogs in a high quality restaurant but surely the staff should intervene when one is wandering around! I guess I should have read the small print on the website and gone elsewhere - there is plenty of choice in Richmond. By the way looking at the faces of some of the other diners it wasn’t just me that found it unacceptable!

A faultless experience that we absolutely loved. The level of service was a level above. They catered for our allergies and even offered free glasses of Prosecco as it was my wife’s birthday. The food was absolutely delicious and we’re definitely coming back again soon.

Lovely outdoor setting, and food good standard, however very slow service. Sat down at 2:30pm and main courses didn’t arrive until 3:45, and then only because we asked. When he asked where the food was it came straight out so makes me think they were sitting on the pass overlooked.

Impromptu lunch, lovely garden eating area, it was bit chill despite being the end of June, they put the over head heaters on for us, perfect! Great service from Ellie, always great when you have someone who clearly enjoys their job. Oysters were fresh and big. Sea bass dish with seafood bisque was delicious, as was the cauliflower with romanesco sauce. A lovely afternoon at The Britannia, thank you !

The special Sunday menu meant they did not have their regular beef fillet (apparently excellent), which was why we'd gone in the first place, but still, a lovely relaxing experience in a pretty location with a peaceful ambience. They were busy (but not noisy) and gave us a table inside despite not having a reservation. Generous portions, well presented dishes, cider on tap, kind service - we left feeling very happy.

Good at The Britannia is the best in Richmond without doubt.

Ate in the garden for a pre theatre supper. Staff are attentive and friendly. Making a very nice atmosphere. Good menu choice and food delicious. Asked if we were going to the theatre so they could manage timings appropriately.

Went here for my birthday and managed to have the weather to sit outside. Food was lovely and had a good range for everyone. The waiting staff were attentive and able to provide advice on selections - I will definitely be returning

My colleague and I chose the Britannia to entertain two clients for lunch in June 2024, after he remembered eating here several years ago. We were very lucky with the weather, as it was warm and sunny but not too hot, so we were very comfortable on terrace. The food was superb through-out, with all four of us enjoying all three courses. We had G&Ts to start, before perusing the wine menu. I drank the red Rioja, which went well with my lamb, while my colleague enjoyed the white Macon, to match his chicken. The desserts were extremely large and I think we were all defeated by them, but they were very nice nonetheless. The service was very attentive while we were there, though there was only one other cover on the terrace. All in all, we were impressed and hope to return soon!

Quiet lunch on a sunny monday. Sat in back garden. Nice ambience. Birthday lunch and they made us feel very welcome - overall good service. Menu is short but high quality produce and certainly qualifies them as a proper gastropub. Had an array of shellfish and meat dishes. All good. Only slight disappointment was they dont have to oysters available on Mondays in order to ensure freshness (fair enough). Wine list was notable with some very high end options (Opus 1). Also some nice reds by the half bottle. Overall. Happy and will go again

I’ve had two meals here, because a friend likes it and wants to book it. As they aren’t in London often, I agreed to it again, despite having a dreadful meal last time. No better this time. Starter of Mackerel pate was fine. Definitely no better than you’d make at home, on boring bread. Main course chips were stone cold. Crab fritters nice inside but tasted like cooked in rancid oil. Side salad was one to two lettuce leaves with three cheap, tasteless cherry tomatoes chopped in half and a ring of red onion chopped too thick to eat. Didn’t get a pudding as expected that it wouldn’t be nice, so got a hot chocolate which I sent back as it was just foam on a tiny bit of liquid. As per the food, the first and replacement drink took an age to come. Didn’t complain on the evening as I see my friend so rarely, and I was starving. Would normally complain. The previous visit, I had blamed myself for asking for the Sunday roast on the Sunday evening- it tasted and looked liked it had been sitting on a heater all day. I’m hoping not to have to go back. Nice decor & lovely toilets!

Excellent lunch out on the terrace today with some old friends. Food completely on point as usual; scallops for starter followed by a generous baked cod main course and then a decadent chocolate and hazelnut tart.

Nice little place but I would like to know where they get their 'Cornish caught wild halibut' from as it is a North Atlantic fish and their 'Day boat cod' which is trawled.

Sunday lunch and they had run out off both beef and pork - opted for chicken and the amount was disappointing Not the cheapest place to go and definitely a big disappointment

I haven’t been here for many years and what I recall as pub is now a very smart eaterie. A charming room with outside seating available, if it ever stops raining. Very modern menu and everything we ate was perfect. Definitely one to visit more often.

Great meal on the beautiful rooftop.

A great choice for a family celebratory meal...from a two week old baby to 78 year old grandfather and a toddler and four more adults in between. The food was delicious, the staff were lovely - efficient, patient and accommodating to our needs, I am dairy free and I spilt glass of red wine. Thank you.

Great pub, I’ve been before and sat on terrace. I booked an outside table hoping for a sunny day but it was quite chilly. We were under heaters which helped. Not Britannia’s fault at all. Food superb. My only gripe was that I ordered a shot of chambord to put in my prosecco and the waitress put it on the table, next time I looked it had fallen over and spilled. Looking underneath the tablecloth the table was an iron garden table with lots of gaps in the pattern of the top. It should have had a piece of table felt on it. When I mentioned what had happened to the waitress I thought she’d replace my shot but she just laughed ☹️

Excellent spot, and always a delight to eat there. Food is wonderful and the service very friendly. If there’s one tiny criticism, the menu could be changed a little more often, but nevertheless really fabulous!

As pubs go, in the local area, this one is one of my favourites. The outside space is closed in, but it's a nice space and has a good atmosphere. Service makes it, the staff here are always really friendly and always remember our previous visits. Food is consistently good, again, for a pub. The steak on match day (Twickenham rugby) was a particular highlight.

It took a while to receive our main courses and deserts came out at different times, but it was made obvious that this isn’t typical in this restaurant, because the manager was very apologetic and generously gave us our deserts on the house. Will most likely go again!

A real gem tucked away down one of the pedestrian lanes in Richmond, and much bigger than you'd think - two floors, a delightful terrace AND a garden. The food's delicious and the service is great.

Ambience and service good. Used to have great food, last few times i have been there (since covid) food has been terrible. Menu doesn’t have much option but the quality is terrible. Tiny, greasy fish and chips for example. Can’t sell yourself as a high end gastro pub and serve poor food.

Came for a Sunday roast and it did not disappoint! They were sold out of the pork by 3pm but the beef was still amazing. Sat on the patio and had a lovely time

Fantastic addition to the Richmond restaurant scene. I've had the cheese souffle, oysters, cod risotto, and chicken breast all of which were cooked perfectly. I really appreciated the elegant ambience created by the white table cloths and table lamps. The service was also friendly and attentive, very reasonable prices for both food and drink even in today's inflationary economy. All this without the pretension. I'll definitely return.

During a hot day in Richmond we found an oasis of calm up on the terrace in Brittania. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for. The Cheese Souffle, the scallops and the Chateau Briand were especially good.
