Tried whilst on holiday. Visited for drinks to see what pub was like and maybe dine later on in the week. Service appalling. Stood their for 5 minutes while landlady spoke to friends. Husband said beer was excellent but sadly wine was disgusting - left half a glass which very unusual. Was going to have second drink as beer good so asked for Thatchers - told not on. Then San Miguel again not on. Only 2 pumps working, rest even though displayed, not on. Pub unfriendly, full of junk and very run down. Outside tables were surrounded by tall weeds. Could be a lovely pub but obviously they've lost interest.

Went here at 12pm just as it opened. Inside its very existence is stuck in the past but that is what gives it its charm. Basically mostly used by the locals. I had a Sunday roast here a few weeks back and enjoyed it. So thought I would try it again. One thing I can say is that the meal is consistent in providing home cooked food. Once again I enjoyed it. Plus there are different portion sizes depending on how hungry you are. The only thing having a Sunday roast and half a bitter shandy is trying to walk back up that steep hill back to my place of residence. The lovely attentive lady who served me told me a more scenic route to get back to the village. Across the fields. A much more pleasant trek after such a nice meal. I will definitely be attending here again. The only negative thing is the toilets could do with a clean and an update.

Friendly local pub, run by helpful landlady. Good food on food days, relaxed atmosphere, local ales and hot drinks.

Absolutely the archetypal country local. Friendly customers and staff - was immediately made to feel part of the family. Good beer, the food looked great - will definitely return when I have the chance.

What a dump. Reeked of damp. Toilets green with algae and clearly hadn't been cleaned for years. No lager on draft (although pumps were there). So bad we just laughed for one drink only!

Didn't have any food as we were on our way back from a lovely pizza in the car park of the Portreath Arms. Definitely next time. But the atmosphere and friendliness of everyone was great!

Tried to get food, but not a good experience. Seems to be a locals pub only, although friendly.

SMALL country pub, no TV, no music but there was a dartboard. Like stepping in to the past. The owners were running it the night I went (usually it's their daughter and son in law) in and there was just them and my party. It was great to get away from the youth filled noisy pubs of the city and find somewhere relaxing. If you're looking for something busier there are other pubs in Portreath but this is just across the road from the cottage I rented so was easy to walk in and stumble out.

First pub after a wee walk. Had to wait for all drinks, due to barrels being low/out/required changing. Not great, but the barman was friendly and gave us accurate directions back to the bay...which was a pleasant walk

A friendly local. When we visited it was very quiet - 6 customers (including me and my partner). The other 4 were locals. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed joining in with their discussions. Food was tasty and good value for money.

Popped in for "a swift half" which is what village pubs are great for. Friendly bar staff but as pub quite empty, the 3 or 4 locals propping up the bar were noticeable in discomfort at having "strangers" arrive! Good idea for them to serve baby bottles of wine so I didnt have to worry how long an open bottle had been hanging around for.

Very nice up market hotel a converted grandhouse. Beautiful. architecture interiors designed to match. It was a very comfortable stay, well appointed room. Lots of parking, does have that "no lift" issue, be aware the upper floors could be a problem. The restaurant was solid, but pretty limited menu. Standard breakfast included, cooked to order. Solid local option.Wi fi secure.

Decided to try again as it's many years since our last visit when we vowed never again but with new ownership we decided to give it a try. Restaurant was lovely and bright, great view, good service. Everyone enjoyed their meal I only had one issue and that was more me than them I think I ordered the fish pie and veg and when it came the veg looked like shredded lettuce, chunks of cucumber and fine slivers of nearly raw carrot to be fair we all said the same where's the veg so I asked for the veg and got a dish of the same but hot, so apparently it was cabbage, carrot and courgette not my cup of tea as I was expecting carrots/ broccoli/ peas. I did apologise at the end of the meal as I felt guilty at leaving the veg.
