The licensee, Tanya and her son Jamie made us feel very welcome. They kindly allowed us to park our motorhome in the corner of their car park for the night. To eat Julia had a regular cheeseburger and I went for the Bridge Burger (which has double of everything) both served with really tasty chips and coleslaw with several enormous onion rings. All was delicious but it proved that my eyes were bigger than my belly as I couldn’t manage all those onion rings. Handily for us Tanya let us fill our water tank from the tap behind the garage and empty our bins as well. They told us that the Wortley Top Forge museum just down the road although not open every day (it was closed when we visited) was something that attracted a lot of visitors and included a miniature steam train that runs around a continuous ‘dog bone’ loop carrying passengers.

We stayed as a motorhome stop over. We rang and booked in advance. What a beautiful spot, near a gorgeous river with a heritage forge just down the road. What a fabulous cook Tanya is, nothing was too much trouble and the chips -Wowsers!! My husband had fish and chips with double peas (mushy and garden). The peas were not tinned but home made mushy peas!! The batter on the fish was fantastic- light and crisp. I had the chilli burger and it was delightful, with lovely salad and home made onion rings, so much I couldn’t eat it!! Would 200% recommend this lovely spot. The beer was really well kept, the Timothy Taylor landlord was wonderful and I really enjoyed the cider. Thank you Jamie and Tanya for making us so welcome, we will be back x x x

Took Dad out for lunch and he absolutely loved the beef hot pot, "the best meal he's had in ages, just like Mam used to make" and the pub is a good old traditional Yorkshire pub, no loud music or Sports TV! Not spotless to say the least, but step back in time before the days of reviews when pubs were pubs, none of them would be. Will definitely take Dad back for another of their lovely hot pots. Please keep it on the menu :-)

This is a really good traditional pub, it has a lovely homely feel and good home cooked food. I’ve visited here twice over the past couple of months for Sunday dinner and can honestly say the food is delicious, not in a gastro pub, over the top way but like how your nanan used to cook 😊. Proper mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, veg and a good cuts of beef. We also had pudding, the apple crumble was lovely loads of apples, nice tart taste could tell it was made on site. I had the cheesecake which was really nice and again tasted home made. This place is a hidden gem.

Visited for a family meal for my 84 year old mum’s birthday. She’s a very fussy eater who loves scampi. They’d no scampi available. The kitchen went out of their way to cook her some battered prawns which looked great - they must have been as she didn’t share. 😉 Tonight was pie night and they looked really good as they came past us from the kitchen. We had fish and chips, hunters chicken, and a Cajun chicken burger. All were really well cooked and full of flavour. Proper chips, hand cut, and brown coloured instead of the anaemic fare you find at most pubs. We really enjoyed the food and will be back. Next time will be a Wednesday as that’s burger night.

We are three elderly sisters who try different places for Sunday lunch, yesterday we went to the bridge inn, never having been there before we were made very welcome by the staff (2 gorgeous young ladies) for whom nothing was too much trouble.Drinks arrived very promptly , we were not offered a menu but our attention was drawn to the blackboard prominently displayed. The choices were Turkey,Beef,Stewed steak, and chicken. Plus all the usual Yorkshire puddings etc,The food was excellent, although the beef wasn’t carved as you would expect but sliced on a machine, which doesn’t always give the best impression,The stewed steak was excellent but I got the last piece so it was removed from the blackboard, the vegetables were carrots, cabbage, mashed and roast potato etc all as you would serve at home.Puddings were a disappointment in that only two were offered, neither of which I liked but one of the staff went into the kitchen and came back with jam sponge and custard which was delightful, the other two had cornflake bun and custard also pronounced very good,Would we come here again? It was wonderful to see the Ruddy Duck re-opening, albeit temporarily in the library - which was decorated beautifully for the evening. The 5-course tasting menu we enjoyed was exceptional, my particular highlights being the beef cooked two ways which came with a scrummy potato gratin and our dessert, a superb creation of rhubarb and ginger, showing off the best of local produce. The kale even came from the walled gardens at Wortley Hall! Our servers David and Brogan were both warm, friendly and knowledgeable about both the menu and the venue and we'll be delighted to dine here again. A week later and I'm still thinking about the homemade rhubarb cocktail that David created for me!
