Friends and I visited Poole for a weekend and decided to go to The Bricklayers for the live music on Friday evening. It was amazing we had great food and so much fun. The staff were helpful and kind and told us of places to visit while we were there . We decided to go back for Sunday roast and we were not disappointed. Large portions and so tasty, We would highly recommend and will definitely return.

me and my family had heard about the new menu and were so excited to try it. we popped down last wednesday for their buy one get 50% off another main and the food was incredible. i had the garlic mushrooms to start followed with the fish and chips and it was amazing! the mushrooms were so tasty and the fish was absolutely massive. the staff were really accommodating and lovely and the recently refurbished restaurant area looks amazing.

Brandon a worker - great company and a lovely person .

A worker named Brandon was extremely polite and kind during our time there and he was consistently at out table to pick up our empty pints and was happy to each time. Extremely happy with his work.

The food was ok Nice burger and fries Sadly nothing special,and the order wasn't completed and yet I was still charged. When I pointed this out,I was told that there was no proof that I hadn't eaten the missing item. WHAT.??? Eventually after the manager's investigation I was offered a ,£2 refund because the missing item was found still in the kitchen. I was made out to be dishonest for the sake of a ,£2 extra item. We spent £40 for a basic lunch for 2. Not the best experience

Pub full of chavs that sound like they are from Essex and over priced food, 7.50 for 3 of the smallest chicken strips imaginable, won’t be returning

I was really looking forward to coming here with the family, the menu looked amazing, it's not often I find a menu where I think I could order one of everything. Unfortunately the food was no where near as good as pictured online or described on the menu. We had some starters - calamari which was very good, chips with bacon and cheese which my son loved, battered Halloumi fries they were good, garlic mushrooms were OK. Mains and dessert is where it got disappointing, I ordered my son the marinated chicken and had the choice of 1/4 or half and we went for half, this piece of chicken was honestly sooo small I had to check with the waiter it actually was HALF a chicken because it was literally just a wing and tiny bit of breast. We had the fish and chips, that was OK there was nothing nice about it but nothing terrible just tasteless. We had the pie, that was also OK. Desserts were awful, I was soo disappointed as these were some of the best desserts I've seen offered on a menu. We had the white chocolate and strawberry waffle, firstly there was no strawberries whatsoever, just awful Berry coulis poured all over, the waffle is literally just a shop bought packaged waffle you can find in Asda, then topped with some bright pink artificial tasting ice cream. The Eton mess was even worse and this is my favourite dessert, I've never not been able to eat a Eaton mess but again, no strawberries at all, Berry coulis poured all over which made it so watery and then the cream was room temperature which was really off putting and I did send this back. Service was very good, the gentleman serving us was lovely. The restuarnt itself looks great it was a shame there was absolutely no atmosphere, I was surprised the week you have 50% off we were the only booked table and then maybe a futher 4 couples came in the 2 hours we were there. Would we go back again? No.

Don't how to run the bar when slightly busy. People getting served first when they haven't been waiting. Staff just need eyesight/memory.

Really excited to go to the revamped Brickies this evening. Venue looks great, food was really good had chicken/ bacon salad. Came away disappointed- couldn’t have a convo with my dinner guest kept getting interrupted for the little time we were there - clearly wanted to get rid of us. All the time asking to order , table needs relaying, do you want the bill etc etc Poor ! Sadly Not going back - in Le Bateaux instead.

Never had a bad experience here, brilliant atmosphere, gets very busy, only downside is when it gets late on a weekend evening so many people pile in and it probably makes it difficult for bar staff to get everybody served fast, the food is really good as well.

Visited for the bogof breakfast with family. Nice food. Bottomless tea or coffee too. Beautifully decorated and nice atmosphere. Lovely hidden gem.

The bricklayers is a great local pub with amazing food! The atmosphere is always great and service was really quick! The outside seating area is great and they also have tvs up around the pub!

Went to a party held here. The buffet was delicious good range of tasty food. Decor was tasteful. The staff worked hard ensuring tables were cleared. My only negative were the back doors from the conservatory, to the covered area. The doors kept being left open which let the cold in and the smoke which was unpleasant.

Friendly boozer. Feels like a traditional pub.

Blue burger seemed to be successful along with the fries, the chicken however is another story. Can’t eat spicy food at all so ordered the half rotisserie chicken with lemon and herb sauce (supposedly a non spicy option everywhere I have ever been). This sauce was spicy and also had visible red chillies in it. It tasted nothing if lemon, and nothing of herbs. I phoned the restaurant sure they put on the wrong sauce however was told “that’s just how it comes”. Good delivery time and food was hot.

Visited on a Sunday morning for breakfast. Ordered the "Bricklayers Brekkie" and "The Breakfast Wrap" Service was friendly and attentive and the decor throughout is lovely, and it was nice and clean. Hash Browns were really crispy and delicious and the fried eggs were cooked well. Only constructive feedback was the wrap could have done with having the bacon rind removed, some cheese and a little less brown sauce at the ends. Will keep an eye out for their future live music events.

Food was wrong which has put me in a right doubt about going back

The bricklayers has always been a favourite of mine from going for a meal to dancing the night away until early hours, it always has a great atmosphere. The food is fantastic and the service was quick.

Incredible hidden gem in Ashely Cross, off the main track, right beside St Peters church. Great selection of beers & yummy food. The new menu is great, fresh chicken, tender chilli & the filthiest fries. We popped in & watched the live act last night, ended up staying till the lights went up!

Fabulous breakfast and plates were hot! Family really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend for brunch.

I came in to try the new menu I have heard about. We had the chicken tenders and a bowl of chilli fries it was absolutely delicious.. really nice food and a great pub .. would definitely return .

Slow, didn't have what we wanted after waiting 20 mins, substituted with someone else with no other considerations.

Ordered a burger, it was described as a smashed burger... but it was just a cheap frozen one with a strangely rubbery texture, charged extra for chips but you barely get any as the burger is placed on a side plate so there isn't much room for chips. Slow service and got one of the orders wrong. Won't be visiting again for food.

Went for a full english on a very hungover saturday and was so disappointed with this meal. The waiter seemed confused when we had any questions about the menu like she doesn’t work there, i asked if they did iced lattes and they didn’t which is fine but was offered no alternatives/ there was no drinks menu so we had no idea what was on offer. The waiter also dropped 4 glasses of orange juice all over our table and my friends leg, it’s fine it happens we’ve all been there, my problem lies with the fact we were the only people in there for breakfast and we were in the place for over an hour waiting for our food which came out and was flavourless, the eggs were sad looking and everything was just bland and not worth the money we paid for it to be honest, would rather go to wetherspoons. Will not be returning for breakfast but would give the new menu a chance another time.

Mac and cheese with and without chicken was really nice but the cheesy fries were not good at all they appeared to be overcooked and the cheese not only stuck to the well done chips it also stuck to the package that they came in - we couldn't get them out of the box without a struggle - even our dogs turned their noses up at them

I have loved this pub in the past but the breakfast I had was very poor. Two tiny pieces of streaky bacon, half a very small tomato, so over cooked it had turned to mush, one thin sausage and unedable sliced mushrooms, which must have come out of a tin. The egg was OK. All looked lost on a small dinner plate for £9. Bricklayers you need to improve the quality of this. I will not be back.

We had lunch. Limited menu at time as changing menu. Panni was pretty basic. Better quality ham, not just prepackaged ham, would have been nice. Staff very friendly, though. Would like to try again just to see if the new menu is better, choice and quality.

My family has been meaning to go here for ages and a hot, bright midweek evening got us all here ready for the Chessy Does It! menu. The bar and dining areas are lovely. No water bowl for me, or treats, but that's ok. It was empty, and we were quite early, but the other pubs and eateries in this lovely little secluded place in Ashley Cross were already spilling out onto the pavements. My Dad's Mac 'n Cheese was good, pretty cheesy and crispy with panko on top. Two burgers were ok, but the cheeseburger came without cheese and my Mum was questioned when she said it had none. It was returned with one slice of fridge-cold cheese, not the two advertised. My Dad's Abbot pint came but he was advised to taste it as it was the "last of the line". Indeed, the very last; musty, flat, awful. It should never have been served. A free replacement was charged for and just ok. This place has been here for ages but they need to up their game a lot. Service was Gen Z apathetic. The food is ok but nothing special. The service, drinks and rather high price for what you got mean it's doubtful we'll be back. But what do I know? I think grass tastes great.

Recently had a function here and I must say it was wonderful. The location, atmosphere, food and staff were all outstanding. One young lad helped us throughout the day and he was an absolute delight to have around, such a lovely polite young lad (I hope it's reflected in his wages!) Will happily visit again and highly recommend to anybody!

50 minutes after ordering they still hadn't assigned a driver. Hour and 10 later the food arrives... Couldn't believe I'd paid £40 for what arrived. Cold, dead flies in the box, missing items and parts of the burger missing. Disappointed!!

Great night if it wasn't so packed. Surely they are licensed for a certain amount of people from a safety point it was dangerous.

Mac and cheese was mainly macaroni and mozzarella with very little bland cheese sauce. The halloumi fries were very thin and greasy. Very underwhelming.

Went with a group for Saturday Brunch. Service slow with long wait for food Once it arrived mainly one meal at a time with lengthy waiting for next meal to appear there were ongoing issues including, bread not toasted, eggs overcooked alleged crispy bacon looked like it had hardly been cooked, wilting salad. One order which had to be returned to kitchen wasn’t seen again. Sausages burnt on outside. On highlighting concerns we were told our drinks would be free. When it came time to leave and our concerns about poor food and wait highlighted bill was waived and while this was appreciated it was a very disappointing start to our day. Unlikely to return here for food.

It's nice norm pub. Beer is well priced despite its up market look. Food is highly priced and personally not worth the money.

Good atmosphere and drinks, but the prime beef smashed burgers were not smashed or prime beef, just cheap pre made burgers. Dirty fries were great though!

Decided to visit for the rugby and to grab some food. Full pub with limited atmosphere, most of the heaters outside didn’t work. Burgers were ok but phenomenally expensive with no sides!

Nice decor but the food wasn't too good unfortunately. Maybe just go for the drinks next time.

Good food except for the nachos- disgusting 🤮 the guacamole was like fake slime. Could make better nachos in the microwave at home

Had Sunday Roast Dinner here 12/02/23, Food was sooo good! We will definitely be back for another, properly impressed us with the Roast, the flavour the gravy the veg the lot, its always the little things, like instructions on how to re-heat our take away Sweet course that make the difference, attention to detail, care etc, If you own this place, well done for getting it properly sorted in my opinion, Loved it!

Went for a low key 30th roast with family, 7 of us. Starters were lovely and piping hot, dad's potato and leek soup looked divine and he loved it. 4 beef and 3 chicken, everyone enjoyed even the picky brother who hates veg enjoyed the cauliflower cheese. They gave is an extra jug of gravy as it was so flavourful. Good portions and loads well cooked veggies. Will definitely be going again. No room for desserts but selection looked good. Only thing I could say to improve is to have an option of stuffing even if you have to pay more I think it would be a hit!

Came here for a few drinks and it's a beautiful little place :) . Staff are friendly and fast at service and the band was pretty good too. Worth a drink if you're passing:)

Used to come to Bricklayers regularly but was really disappointed with service over the Xmas period. On Xmas even and Xmas morning my family purchased a number of beers. All of which were flat and undrinkable. Raised the issue with the staff on the days but nothing done, so left. Raised with management a few days later only to be told/guaranteed that our flat drinks, definitely weren’t flat. But if they were it was the glass fault?? About £80 completed wasted. Such a shame

My partner and I visited the bricklayers pub on a Sunday for a three course meal roast dinner. Our starter was chunky tomato soup with ciabatta. The soup was lovely, it had all the right notes of flavour but it definitely wasn’t chunky. Our main was the beef roast. What we received compared to the pictures from the pubs Facebook and website was categorically, not the same! The beef was raw, it was still mooing :/ the amount of gristle and fat on the meat wasn’t pleasant either. This isn’t something you would expect as it being advertised as “Roast beef”. The veg was served in a serving bowl which was swimming in water, even my Yorkshire pudding was under cooked. According to their menu, it was meant to be red wine gravy…. You could tell it was just a bog standard box gravy which was so thin! I complained to a member of staff and all she could say was sorry, then she added, “were you not told about the beef” like it was our fault. We told her we wasn’t informed. This member of staff returned after taking our plates and said to my partner that they would have cooked it more if we asked??? This was our first visit to the bricklayers pub and it’ll be our last! Very disappointing.

We had the best wedding party here! Andy and his team were very flexible to accommodate the band, tailor drinks and food packages to our needs and generally making sure the evening ran smoothly. Plenty of staff on the night. The food was good and moved as requested to make space for dancing. We couldn't have wished for a better night and venue for our special night.

Great pub, always busy, fantastic atmosphere

The food was not at the standard it had been previously. We used to order here almost once a week because of the outstanding taste and food quality. This time the mac and cheese was not seasoned well and did not have any of the ranch dressing on top or spring onions. These two ingredients make the mac and cheese the dish it is. Not so happy this time round and likely won't come back.

Ordered latte which arrived luke warm. Complained and received a fresh one. Breakfast arrived with bacon scarcely cooked and going grey in areas, which i cut around. Eggs were wet and the whole thing bland. Wish i stayed at home. Bar staff were great, but don't bother going there for any food.

The Bricklayers is a nice pub, but it could be great! Heard good things about the food, but not tried it for myself. Nice beer garden with heaters and the staff are again fine, just not great. The place lacks a bit of welcome and a decent pint of draught beer is best found elsewhere.

Been several times recently,always a good selection of ales,dogs and kids always welcome,a younger crowd after 9,regulars and self employed keep afternoons and early evenings busy .Great pub

Used to be a working man's pub. Bit more yuppiesh now, but, still very good. Nice selection of beers and food. Very good outside area adds that little extra to it.

How do you get a drink in this place? I have just stood at the bar with my partner whilst people behind next to basically the whole pub were being served , also not all that busy. Disgusting service!!

Had my son’s christening at the Bricklayers and it was incredible! The staff were lovely and very helpful especially the lady who looked after us! It is a perfect size for a gathering and there was an amazing variety of food! Will definitely book again!

Went for the ale which my friends thoroughly enjoyed, I had a fabulous Malbec. Unfortunately seemed to be just the one bar staff when we went on a Saturday afternoon, she handled everything very well, calm and didn't get flustered.

Plastic wrapping stuck on burger patty. Old Macdonald chips were just plain melted chedder cheese with bacon.

The Mac and cheese was extremely disappointing, it had zero sauce, it was pasta with bland mozzarella. The burger was dry and left a lot to be desired. I had such high hopes but I was left dissatisfied.
