We had a casual lunch here after visiting the house. The mozzarella toasties were tasty. Prices are a bit steep here… nice venue overall.

Since restructuring this restaurant, the whole building is much better laid out. Before the queues were corralled into a tight space. Sadly the food cannot be said to be good. The quality is OK, but the prices are not.I know that The National Trust is a charity(I have been a Life Member for about 50 years) but charging high prices for small meals is just not on.I had a bacon bap, the bap was very small and only contained two rashers of overcooked bacon,it cost £5.00!! I very much enjoyed the house, but eat after(or before) you visit,in a cafe in Sevenoaks, rather that the overpriced Brewhouse Restaurant.

The staff behind the counter seemed bored and uninterested other than giving only the basic level of customer service. There was a lengthy pause until I realised I had to speak first rather than a friendly greeting as to what I wanted. The coffee and sausage roll were very nice though. I would suggest you remind the staff not to eat the products behind the counter and then finish off by licking their fingers.

Had a cheese scone and a flat white, and a cream tea with hot chocolate. Both the drinks and scones were very nice. Tables and floor could have done with a clean as there was cutlery and bits of food on the floor, however to be fair there were 2 members of staff busy cleaning and clearing tables as fast as they could. Not many sandwiches and food options not that enticing but what we had was nice.

Somewhat spartan but in keeping with the ambience of the House/Park. Slightly disappointing that hot lunches stopped at 2.30 pm even at half term. Home made cakes lovely. Everything that we had there was good quality and there is a decent amount of seating to accommodate those just using the parkland and those that go into the house. You don't need to pay to go to the house to use this cafe.

...who explained why the heating wasn't working on the blusteriest, wettest, day (Nov 2nd). The soup was awful - we thought it sounded delicious. None of us can remember what it was actually listed as - but it contained white beans. My fellow soup imbiber described it as gruel... I thought it might be a recipe passed down from a Sevenoaks workhouse? Thin, watery, salty, barely hot. No butter had been delivered (sunflower spread only). We then went up for a cuppa, and I cheekily(?) said, I hope the cakes are better than the soup? The counter assistant said, she wouldn't know, because she didn't have the soup, she had the chilli/bean ... ! Just hopeless...

Had lunch here. Menu included soup of the day and various jacket potato options. My wife started with the soup which was served immediately. I opted for a jacket potato and we both ordered a hot dessert. The staff provide you with a buzzer which goes off when your order is ready. An efficient system but if you don’t want to wait order food that is served to you straight away. Our food was good. Plenty of seating inside and outside.

Visited last week, and the queue was huge. Made me think that perhaps the food was of good quality and therefore they'd offer decent alternatives for those with dietary requirements. Wrong. The only thing available was a jacket potato. I asked for them to make it vegan, so the coleslaw was removed (the price of which was not). Vegan mayo is cheap and available in most highstreet supermarkets now so that's annoying. I then asked if they had any vegan butter and they said 'yes' and handed me an alternative individually packed butter. I read it. It said 'contains milk'. Silly mistakes. The food wasn't anything above average and consideration for dietary requirements was poor and insulting.

Just called in today for coffee and cakes but was disappointed as it didn't live up to usual NT standards. Coffee was really weak and I ended up leaving mine hardly touched (and I regularly manage to finish starbucks, costa and even machine coffees at work!). Was also disappointed when we looked at the bill when we sat at the table to see that that the scone we had taken was actually a cheese scone. As we had asked the staff for jam and cream which they had happily provided you would think they might have mentioned that the scone was savoury. They obviously realised it was as that was what they billed for!

Food is average at best and overpriced. Microwaved jacket potatoes, sausages in buns, odd salads on a freezing day, and a really nasty thin butternut squash soup that tasted of nothing. Disappointing for the NT. Staff a bit hopeless too, so by the time you get to the cash desk with your hot food it is cold. Sandwiches two weird choices. Teatime is probably ok.

After several trips to Knowle whilst building was in progress we were excited to visit the cafe. Staff busy chatting -not interested in customers. Limited menu. The choices that were available were dull. A small bowl of vegeable stew at about £6 or a very hard, burnt, jacket potato. Worst of all you have to walk through the shop to get to the seating area. When you get to the seating area the lighting is not adequate and your food is cold. A poorly designed cafe. Very disapointing and not up to usual NT standards. Whatever the weather next time we will take a picnic.

I have rejoined the NT after a space of a few years and find the food depressingly fallen down from a reliable high point. Why does the National Trust consider a "Spud You Like" menu suitable for it's restaurants? I was hoping to have had a family meal at Knowle but small mostly potato based snacks were the only things on offer. We skirted around a dog fight centred on the outdoor tables before, slightly shaken reaching this depressing menu. There was a similar menu at Hinton Ampner and I have an unnerving suspicion that as the rest of Britain's pubs, cafe's and restaurants often produce wonderful food, the NT has decided to buck the trend and focus on 1970's themed dining.

So disappointed by the so-called new Brewhouse Cafe. Poor choice of food especially lunches. Inadequate outside seating for the number of people visiting and this is only April! Long queues for very average over-priced food - so what is it going to be like in mid summer and during the School Holidays? A total waste of money by the National Trust to provide a totally inadequate service. This lets down the National Trust's reputation.

We are regulars at Knole, and love walking in the park, with the tea room potentially providing the appropriate reward. But, like many others, 'we' includes a dog, who is well provided for in summer, with water bowls by the picnic tables in the courtyard. All well and good, then, unless it's just one person and the dog, when it's necessary to risk losing her to thieves (all too common nowadays) while you go in to order. Solvable by providing an indoor area visible from the counter queue, but that's not available at present. Then again, in winter, when it's cold outside it would be nice to sit inside, but it's strictly 'no dogs allowed'. Why 'no dogs'? In, say, Devon or France, including top Paris cafés, you can take your well-behaved dog (none of us likes ill-behaved dogs, children or adults) in practically anywhere without any issues. This winter, I can see Winnie the Poodle and I taking our custom to Caffe Nero in Sevenoaks where we are always welcome...

The new cafe @ Knole is simply stunning. Sitting on the roof top terrace in the glorious winter sunshine is an utter delight. However, sadly that's where the positives ends.On each of our three visits, staffing has been a huge issue. Firstly lack of it (surely the powers that be can make the simple equation that sunny winter weekend = prepare for lots of visitors - clearly not!).Despite having a small take away cafe area as well as the main one the queues for both were huge. We waited for 20 minutes in a very slow moving queue.Reaching the front of the queue we were told that a lot of items had sold out! (With 2 hours of trading left!). On our last visit - we ended up with an unremarkable (certainly not home made) slightly stale scone, a shortbread (not made with butter and very bland) and two tepid (machined) hot chocolates. The price charged was more suited to Fortnum and Mason! The staff, clearly under pressure had forgotten the ' service with a smile' bit and were either rude or monosyllabic when questioned about food availability. Many of the tables on the roof terrace were littered with food debris from previous diners. It is a self clear area -but the tray slots were full. No staff were apparent outside. We love knole-we live on its doorstep-and appreciate how fortunate we are. However this glorious old house and it's acres of estate are been severely let down by a chaotic, shambolic and pretty unpalatable catering 'service'! So sad!

I would suggest you bring a picnic/packed lunch as the cafe is very over priced!I had an egg mayo roll priced at £4.75, and their was hardly any filling in it.My partner had the quiche priced at £7.95...... What a let down. It came with new potatoes that had clearly been sitting on the hot plate for some time as they were brown in the middle with a little leaf salad on the side. The quiche I'm afraid, was sub standard.Very little choice on the menu..... And no kiddie meals/ lunch boxes.Very disappointed!Again guys, take a picnic!

We visited the inside tea rooms this afternoon with three young children, having cycled across the park. The grounds are lovely and we saw lots of deer on the way. We arrived at the tea rooms at 16.50 with three exhausted girls who were needing a bit of a snack before the cycle back. We waited a few minutes while the group in front of us were served and noticed that the middle aged lady serving them was not at all friendly. When it was our turn to be served, she was similarly rude and said that they were closing in ten minutes. There was no cakes on display and when we asked if we might buy some cake, we were told that it had all been put away because they were closing. We asked if we might buy something if we finished within five minutes. The lady was very rude and unwelcoming throughout! I have never been spoken to in such a rude manner!! The lady reluctantly served us. I notice similar comments from others on the inside tea room! Maybe better to use the caravan outside or use a coffee shop in Sevenoaks. We certainly wont be visiting again!

My partner and I have made this the must do Christmas tradition due to the marvellous choice and quality of festive fare set in the most chracter filled surroundings. Knole's tea room is a Tudor brewhouse (where they once brewed beer) which serves traditional , alternative and vegetarian Christmas dinner in the two week run up to Christmas. The turkey is always succulent, their vegetarian choice inspired and all trimmings beautifully cooked. Set at the side of the stunning palace surrounded by the large deer park you could not ask for a better place to enjoy a full Christmas dinner. This is the last time that the brewhouse will do Christmas dinner in its current form as it is to have a total modernisation refurbishment during 2014. Book now to avoid dissappointment and missing out on one of the most atmospheric Christmas lunches going.
