Delicious food, fab and friendly service, very well kept beer and a really lovely, relaxed atmosphere! We highly recommend this great country pub. Fantastic meal out with visiting family at this gastro pub. Varied menu, something for everyone. Some of the comments around the table "one of the best fish and chips I've ever had" "everything beautifully presented" "hot plates to keep food constant temperature throughout meal" Warm inviting atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. Well done team. Would thoroughly recommend a visit. Beautiful garden and children's area for those warmer days.

This place came highly recommended to us but unfortunately we were left disappointed, extremely long wait for our table and then for the food, when it finally did come most of our party had to wait longer still for fresh cutlery. Food was nice but over done. Based on the recommendations from our friends I’d give this place a second chance especially as it’s so child friendly, I hope they were just having an off day.

Wow ... when the place you want is full and the 'alternative' is the brewery tap! Warm, cosy, brilliant atmosphere. Lucy and her team made us feel like we were part of the village and local clients. Phoebe, our server, was truly **on it**. Her infectious energy and sharp sense of humour clearly make her an indispensable asset to the Pubs family. Food glorious food, simple, hearty, with that twist of gastro & if you like a large portion, there really is no scrimping here. Well prepared served hot and 'proper' tasty.

The worst meal I can remember having in my life. An absolute calamity from beginning to end, nobody at the bar to meet or seat us. Waited ages, eventually sat down. Got up to ask for menus, got up again 20 mins later to get our drinks from the bar. No water (despite water glasses on the table) Ordered a starter which didn’t come. Had the most absurd main course which was, literally, a single carrot on a sad bed of crunchy old couscous. A single carrot. Obviously had no water no dessert. I cannot express how poor it was. It was v quiet night with us and two other tables; so they certainly weren’t busy. What was most upsetting was we were really considerate of their feelings when feeding back and they still charged service charge!!! Unbelievable. Everyone has bad days but the right thing to do would have been to close for the night rather than steal our money.

All went wrong. Booked for 3pm on Sunday. They said they had it down for 3.30pm, but the true was they didn't have our reservation. We sat at 4.15. But I understand, it can happen when you use pen and paper to manage reservations. But then the worst. Just 2 kids who probably were at their first experience (I don't blame them) who left us, and the whole upstairs room, with no service and no food. We started eating at 5.30 ish, and the food wasn't great either. My fish pie, had a nice mashed potatoes and 2 pieces of fish inside. I still can understand there are days when everything goes wrong. I hope it was this the case. People told to visit you for you outstanding Sunday roast. Not this time.

We had a very tasty shared starter but the main course of Crispy Cod was far from good. The handcut chips were soggy and burnt. When we pointed out that we were very disappointed, we were each offered a scoop of ice-cream (which was tasty). On this Thur evening (4th Aug), they were short staffed (only one person serving on bar and one serving the tables) and the two young ladies were clearly stressed. However, there was also clearly a lack of care in the kitchen which is more difficult to accept. Aside from the disappointing food, the interior decor and outdoor seating are high quality. It is a pity that they were let down by not having enough staff and having a lack of care in the kitchen.

Having eaten twice at the Brewery Tap the food is excellent but the service leaves a lot to be desired... It is a lovely pub and we had the same waitress for both visits who was very good but she had far too much to do and we were not the only ones noticing the lack of adequate staffing. . The Staff that were standing behind the Bar were on their phones and not assisting to any great degree. Had the tandoori veg starter and the black bean burger as a main. Tandoori veg was just carrots and cauliflower coated in a few spices - it was ok but I was hoping for something more exciting. The bean burger came without lettuce and chilli jam, so there was no sauce which made it quite dry. Raised the burger issue with the waitress, but they did nothing to rectify - they simply asked me if those ingredients were supposed to be on there, which according to the menu, they were. Had the stem ginger pudding for dessert which was lovely, and earned them an extra star. Overall I was hoping this place would be a lot better than it was.

Ok firstly the food is fine, the staff are lovely and the climate isn’t great for anyone let alone a nice country pub. Therefore take these comments as an “IMhO” from a constructive and informative view. Make your own decision, if you go early evening or Sunday Lunch you probably won’t notice any problems but if you’re looking for a gastro pub experience with good wine to accompany the good food then be warned. There’s nothing on the wine list that you wouldn’t find in a working men’s club for a fraction of the price. Mark up on quality is acceptable but when it’s rubbish for a premium it feels like a bit of a rip off.So here goes…..Location- BrilliantBeer - GreatAtmosphere - it’s lIke a library upstairs and emptied early even at weekends.Staff - I Can’t fault them, they’re young and a bit inexperienced but it’s the charm of a collage pub. They could do with a little training for serving a £29 steak or £30 bottle of wine especially if service is included but hey this is still a village pub with good food and I think the rest will come in time.Wine - This is like a wine club, ok for the ‘Not so’ wine educated but rest assured it’s gonna give you a headache in the morning. It’s margin over quality you’ve been advised.

Table booked for 2pm, seated okay, waited 30 minutes before I went to the bar to disturb 3 staff from chatting to request a drinks order taken from us. We also ordered food from the very limited and frankly poor menu. Two of our party had the burger which was adequate at best, two bland and tasteless meat patties covered with melted gouda cheese. We also had sides of macaroni cheese which was overcooked to the point of being more like cheese flavour chewing gum. Disappointing but I was reassured by the manager who informed me that the burger was a best seller and that made me question my taste buds in this Covid climate. £102 for three people including a service charge which is clearly there as you wouldn't leave a tip. I had hoped that a country pub would provide a pleasant experience with lovely food and managed to get the polar opposite. Disappointed is a mild term so my advice would be give it a miss and drive elsewhere.

We are lucky enough to live locally and this is our third lunch here with our neighbours in just a few weeks. The Brewery Tap have made great efforts during lockdown and not only does their outside space feel Covid safe, it is also very comfortable and has covered areas in case of rain. The menu can look a little ‘fussy’ in places but we can wholeheartedly recommend the fish & chips, ribs and club sandwich. The burgers look great too - maybe next time! The service is friendly & the food & drinks nicely served (I do like bowl glasses for G&T). They deserve their continued success, we will be back.

The food is always excellent.. albeit pricey. Sadly we were not told that we would be seated outside on a cold, wet evening & this made the experience unpleasant. Had we been warned, we would’ve dressed more appropriately. There were heaters nearby but I assume they weren’t working as no offer was made to bring them near the tables. We were one of only two tables unlucky enough to be given the outside area.. both us & the other table were not happy! A table of 4 arrived before us who hadn’t booked & were allowed to pick any free table inside.. which obviously didn’t add positively to our mood! Such a shame as we booked weeks ago!

I finally managed to get over to The Brewery Tap after hearing so many fantastic reviews and recommendations given by people on Facebook whenever someone asks for good food pubs locally. I have three children aged 7, 5 and 3 and our friends we went with also had 3 children of similar ages. The climbing frame was an all round win with all six children and the two smallest also really engaged with the two pods of younger toys. Always a win when you actually want to have a chat and finish a sentence without one of the kids needing something! The pub was fully booked which was lovely to see given the current circumstances and the staff were very attentive. Wait time for drinks and food was not excessive given how busy it was either and we were soon tucking in to the most delicious roast dinner. I have lived in and around Bishop’s Stortford my whole life and cannot think of anywhere else locally where the roast has been this good :) The only issue we had was trying to get the kids off of the play frame to eat as they were having so much fun!!! Lovely pub, friendly staff and great food! Really impressed and will be back.

Wonderful, relaxed Sunday lunch with friends on 2 May. The Brewery Tap have created a fantastic covid secure outdoor setting (fully covered for sun or shade). They couldn’t have done more to welcome our party (including three small children, a baby and a dog). Very attentive service and food came quickly (which was really appreciated as our friends had hit traffic from London so kids were verging on meltdown). Adults had roasts - each type of meat was delicious and a lot of care was taken over the trimmings (my favourite bit!). Kids fish and chips was fantastic (really liked the fact that the kids menu wasn’t scrimped on). Great wine list and the perfect pint of Tribute (according to my husband). After lunch, the kids hit the adjoining (new) playground, leaving adults able to catch up properly after a year - couldn’t ask for more and not an easy feat for any pub in the first few weeks after lockdown. Will return.

This pub would be excellent and a 5 star, if it were not for the added extra. And it could be argued, always read the small print, were it clearly stated „a 12.5% service charge applies“. But I was going to a pub and not signing for an electricity contract. The garden and venue is Covid save, children have a fantastic playground and other areas, plenty of outside seating and a varied menu. The seating is wonderfully spaced out and a cover is provided for shelter. The food was outstandingly good, the service very attentive and impeccable. The staff are lovely. However I don’t understand the so very American way of having to add a compulsory surcharge to pay the service of staff that it is added to the bill. Please can you not just say the dish is £20.00 rather 17.50 and a drink will be £5.60 rather than 5£ should you wish to eat (strangely enough this charge does not apply if you don’t eat). It makes budgeting for a day out a lot easier.I detest booking with Europe’s favourites airline as the add ins are confusing, I dislike shopping in America as you always have to add tax at the till when paying. And now we get the worst of all worlds as there is no standard in the UK for service charges in restaurants. Were are the days when tipping was a bonus to the staff for a job well done? I would have gladly added to the bill at the end, but dislike being made to do so not by choice. And do the staff receive the service charge or is it the pubs extra for employing the staff to provide the service? And the staff still would appreciate a tip in addition to this? Confused - yesSubsequently looking at the surcharges, does a delivery driver not deserve a 10% tip? The supermarket checkout staff? The actor on your local stage? This list of lower wage employees who provide a great service could be endless......were a service surcharge could be greatly appreciated ? And please don’t get me wrong, I feel for every pub and am so glad for every single one that has managed to re open under the new restricted conditions. I am only in favour of transparent charges, keep it simple please!

Interesting menu. Nice change from the usual. We had the squid and mussels linguine starters which were excellent. This was followed by the seared tuna and the fish and chips main. All good. I am not a big fan of thrice-cooked chips; I find them greasy and heavy. But they came with the meal so I had no choice but to leave them on the side. My wife enjoy her tuna main. Lovely setting, and Covid safe. Friendly and attentive staff.
