Quirky building which was previously the village post office. Small selection for lunch, but delicious! We each had a mozzarella, pesto and tomato baguette, it was fresh and full! We arrived having not known the situation of what was on offer but have been meaning to try for some time. Current circumstances means the service has changed recently and breakfasts and more choice of lunches are no longer available and it is now a coffee shop. Having said that, there were two choices other than the cakes, a crusty baguette with bacon, brie and onion and tomato and lettuce which was very tasty and filling. There was another option that I cannot remember. We were informed the baguette fillings change. The food is home made and from what we tried very good. The coffees were made to customer liking and the service was friendly and good. I wish them luck. The menu on line has yet to be updated to take into account the new situation (as of lunch time 2nd Feb 2023) but will soon be done. The venue a small village shop (former post office) location that felt cosy, just by the main crossroads and opposite the local store. i was perfectly comfortable in the seat and we didn't rush to get away. I enjoyed the visit.

We stopped for coffee and cake. The coffee was good. The cakes were ok but small slices and overpriced. We were a family of six people and spent a lot of money there. The person who served us was not particularly friendly. She gave us one more coffee than we asked for and stated that that was what we ordered which was not. She said that we had to have it and very reluctant to give back a refund. Not ever going there. She did not give us a receipt and possibly overcharged us. Would not recommend this cafe.

There were no other customers at Datchworth Coffee, so you would think when our family of six arrived the waitress (owner?) would be pleased to see us. We did after all spend a whopping £28 on just six soft drinks and three small slices of cake but we were served rudely from the beginning. The woman running the cafe added an extra drink to our bill which we flat out did not order. Normally I am the kind of person who would say ‘never mind we’ll take the extra drink’ but she was so rude about it from the outset, snapping ‘Well you’ll have to drink it’. I was utterly stunned. AND THEN SHE ACTUALLY TOLD US ‘THIS IS WHY WE DON’T LIKE LOTS OF PEOPLE COMING IN HERE’. (I’ll remind you, there were no other customers). Such a shame. The building is beautiful. The village is lovely with great walks. The cakes are delicious. I’d love for Datchworth Coffee to succeed. But with that kind of service I can’t say my family will be rushing back.

This has gone from being a very welcoming place to one that should be avoided. I’ve been twice lately. I don’t think I shall go again. The first incident was asking if the door could be shut as it was so cold. The sweet waitress closed it. The owner came up and opened it , with the comment, can you leave the door open. Why would anyone want to sit in the cold and have a coffee. There was no reasoning behind it. I got the feeling it was bloody mindlessness. The second occasion was the general rudeness as though you were being an inconvenience. What’s happened? Why spoil a lovely little enterprise. I’m know others that feel the same. Such a shame

What can I say! For years I have been told that this is a nice place to visit. Perhaps it was until it was taken over 2 years ago. The first visit was ok but declined from thereon-in. 2nd visit was on the rude side. Big confusion about what one can order and it all depends on takeaway or eat in. The eat in you must order a meal. You can’t just have a drink and cake otherwise you’re given prompt marching orders and relegated outside (like a dog I guess). The third visit, I was served by the owner who I observed on all visits as abrupt and stoney faced. She of course was rude and used her most favourite words ‘don’t come back again’ - i note by recent reviews, she has used this to customers as her fall back. I told her that it would be highly unlikely of my return as well as my friends who i have since informed that live locally. I think the owner is under some form of illusion that her business is forever secure but I imagine slowly, customers will be less forthcoming due to her self destructive behaviour coupled with the fact of the Covid 19 situation. I would not recommend this place! Unless you like your food slammed or shoved in front of you (takeaway service btw)! Go somewhere else if you want some peace. There are loads out there that will be far better service and less discriminative. There is a coffee shop just around the corner at the art barn - the owner is lovely and she never makes you feel bad for getting a takeaway.

I can honestly say I have never experienced such rudeness in my life. The owner is just awful. We asked if could order a sandwich from the takeaway menu to eat. We were told it wasn't possible by the lovely waitress after checking with the owner. We were fine with that and said we'd have two coffee's to have in and would take the sandwiches home when we were leaving. She then said the owner now said it was ok. Again fine. However when the owner came with our sandwiches her face was like thunder and we were told that in future we had to take the sandwiches away. It was just so aggressive and unnecessary. The place was empty ( unsurprisingly). We ate our food and when we paid the waitress asked if we would like a loyalty card. I said no as the owner was so rude. She overheard and said don't come back. As if we would!!!!! My only regret is not walking out straight away. Over priced sandwiches and the rudest owner I have ever met. Maybe she should invest in a customer service course to help work on her aggression and manner.

I went for lunch today to this coffee house and was appalled by the rudeness of the owner. I have never met such a rude person working in a customer service role. We asked for sandwiches off the take away menu but we were eating in. We were told this wasn't possible which was fine. We then ordered two coffee to drink and said said we would take the sandwiches when we left to eat at home. No problem. The lovely waitress then came and said it was now ok and we could eat in. Again great no problem. However when the owner brought them to us with a face like thunder she put the plates down and said in future we won't do this you have to take away. The manner in which she said this was so aggressive. I couldn't believe she was so rude. We'd already said we'd take them away so I could see what the problem was. As I left the lovely waitress asked if we'd like a loyalty card and I said no as the owner was sooo rude. She overheard and said don't come back. I mean really!!! How is this woman running a customer service business. The place was empty and it's hardly surprising. Completely awful. I just wished I'd left when she put the plates down. Shame I gave her a penny of my money.

This is a really lovely café with just the right amounts of ‘at-home’ cozy vibes, whilst also proffering that effortless thrill of eating out and appreciating what’s around you. The interior is pleasing to the eye; it’s hard to feel anything other than comfortable, especially with the friendly smiles of the staff and other customers all contributing to the welcoming, ‘feel-part-of-the-community’ atmosphere. The food is delicious and the service is quick. On my visit, the tables, chairs, cutlery and crockery were clean. My tea was piping hot, how I like it. The brownie was rich, indulgent and not too big. In other words, all the little things were in perfection and looking at the bigger picture, the experience was pleasant and enjoyable. Will definitely return.

This wonderful coffee shop is owned by friends of mine from parkrun (parkrunners get a discount on Saturday!). I love coming here for tea/coffee and cake, or sometimes for brunch after parkrun. The owners and staff are so friendly and welcoming. The premises are quite small, and so the shop's popularity means that it soon fills up - might be worth ringing ahead if you want to guarantee a seat. There is a small courtyard out the back for nicer weather, and for customers with dogs. Whilst I miss sitting in at the moment (lockdown prevails), the takeaway service is very well managed. I highly recommend Datchworth Coffee.

Sadly this is not a positive review. We stopped in for a coffee. We had 2 cups each within an hour. We would've stayed longer except when we were asked to order food and declined the owner asked us to leave! We were to say the very least extremely shocked as we had been there many times before. We were both loyal and returning customers. For this reason we will not be going there again and I would not recommend this place if you are looking for a place to relax over a cuppa - which kind of contradicts the name of the company. It is disappointing to write this review - specially when the other staff were as shocked as we were and couldn't apologise enough. That said, however, we felt very humiliated and upset by what happened and stand by our views. So we will no longer support this establishment.

After coming here multiple times in the past with our 2 dogs after a walk for a coffee, cake and sometimes lunch, we visited the coffee shop today for a coffee and after around an hour we were promptly and out of the blue asked (rudely) to leave by the owner as she was ‘turning away customers due to them not wanting to sit outside with our dogs’ - however we overheard the customers in question passing comment on the outdoor seating available, that the tables were small and cramped, not near the heaters and not totally protected from the rain and wind. I can understand one of our dogs had a grumble at a visiting cyclist but he put a hand out to touch the nervous dog of the group without asking, our dogs were on lead, between us and closely under our control - I believe this was an excuse for us to leave as we had only ordered 4 coffees and no food. The owner has a right to ask anybody to leave for any reason however a caution to visiting dog walkers and people that only order coffee, this place is dog friendly until they get busy and they get short on seating, then you’re not welcome as they’ll prioritise food orders over other paying custom.

Very quickly he had made it & brought it to the tableSorry I forgot his name but it was refreshing to be served & greeted by someone that has a mature head on young shoulders. In so many places you can be served by a member of staff that does not really want to be there & having bad attitude. This venue is a very nice stop off on a route I sometimes tread so I will be going in again. My compliments were passed to the lady in charge on the day who in turn let the young man know of my pleasure in the service. I was so disheartened by this new take over ownership... The old tea room style service and decor has all been ripped out and replaced with new modern upto date look. It's a little chain store style. However. Let's be fair... the staff are very friendly and helpful and do welcome you. It is also a nice touch that they have a card loyalty scheme. If you do Parkrun you get a free cuppa! (Which is s fantastic idea!) Just show your barcode. The food is good, but a little over fussy with presentation. A cosy venue, I'll probably be back at some point!
