The Brenchley in Maidstone

The food was dead but, the funniest part of my experience was the cheesy coleslaw, which I was told was already pre made and I could not have it without the cheese. Look at this hahahaah

Popped in for a quick drink. What a joke. Waited 1/2 hour for two drinks. Staff not overly helpful either.

Went out Saturday night with a group of friends. Was packed and no social distancing as everyone was standing up and swapping tables constantly. When I walked to the toilet the manager was rude as my mask was under my nose (whilst outside) yet did not care about everyone getting up and swapping tables

Waited 45 mins for food and when it came was stone cold. Obviously only outdoor eating (was all under cover and enclosed though?) but people smoking freely at tables. Not pleasant at all.

Visited tonight and I‘d just like to give recognition to both Max and Liam. Max had some issues with his ordering tablet which resulted in our drinks (and many other tables drinks) being late to be delivered, this was beyond his control and he dealt with it so well, he was nothing but polite and attentive and even though he was due to go on break he sorted this issue and made sure everyone was attended to before he went. Liam was absolutely great and just so on the ball, even whilst mid serving other tables he would clock us waiting and gesture to us asking if we were after more drinks. Really impressed with both of them. I have worked in customer service (both bar work and currently as a manager for a well know restaurant brand) and honestly would be proud to have either of these guys working as part of my team.

I expect a burger to be greasy, but not to make the bun disintegrate before I can eat it! Chips were cold and the cheesy chips dried out from the microwave/hot plate, so stuck in one solid lump and we couldn't eat it. Nice place to sit with a cold drink on a hot day, but avoid the food. Overpriced and under quality.

Came out for a few drinks with my partner and a couple of friends. Decided to order a couple of starters as we were hungry Waited an hour and a half for chicken wings, chicken goujons amd halloumi fries The chicken wings and goujons came out and the goujons were on a hot plate but still frozen!!! Asked for a manager and offered more food which obviously we did not want so got a £5 refund but that’s not the point How can they serve frozen chicken?

I just wanted to say how lovely and helpful yhe bouncer was last Saturday eve. I have agressive multiple sclerosis and have little strength in my legs although I look well.I also have little balance. There was a huge que at 6pm outside to get in. The que wasn't moving and I was on my own. I told the doorman about my ms and difficulty with my legs. He walked me straight in, passed the whole que. Thank you so much

Great pub with fantastic atmosphere, I had the ‘Dirty Burger’ for lunch, delicious and good value. A very extensive range of drinks

A lister shi* they kicked us out for nothing at all. The white bouncer and the Asian bouncer kicked us out for nothing at all. We got up and asked why they was kicking us out and they didn’t have a reason. They grabbed me and pushed me out. Shi* service will not be visiting again.

My and my boyfriend came here for a drink on a busy Friday night, he let me sit down as there wasn’t any seats and two bouncers approach us being highly aggressive towards my boyfriend telling him to get out because he kindly let me sit down, they we’re threatening him and being rude towards me when we weren’t doing anything wrong. They tried to drag him out- pulling and pushing him. I would not recommend.We asked them to give us an explanation to why we had been treated this way and they could not respond, after pushing him out and walking away and ignoring us.

The coffee I had was cold, and the moment I had the food I was very sick and had to use the loo. The loos weren’t that clean which made me worse. My friend that was with me also had a bad belly ache when she’d finished. Did not enjoy my time here.

Absolutely loved Georgina, she was fab and really looked after us as a group going out celebrating a birthday. Had a lovey night and will be coming back. Thank you Georgina, lovely girl xx

I have visited the brenchley on numerous occasions, the food ( breakfast) is always good and service is efficient. The one gripe I have is the background music that is played is abysmal, and depressing. It’s not just me I have heard quite a few people moaning about it.

me and some close friends were at your lovely bar ordering 4 of you finest tequila rosès. our night was lovely and inviting, to the point until we though one of the bar staff, who’s name shall not he mentioned (wednesday the f##king legend) was bought a shot by us because of her fantastic service. her commanding officer at the time refused to let her have the shot and for which i am disgusted by as wednesday throughout the whole night had been friendly and inviting. because of this i have nothing but negative reviews of harrys bar, wednesday deverses more♥️

My first time here & what an impressive bar! The room is huge & ornate. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and a good atmosphere. I would definitely return...

Beautiful food , generous portions and very quick service. Been to the place a few times over the year. Always fantastic food ,happy staff and clean and tidy. Highly worth a visit if not for lunch then dinner.

We called into this pub for a drink after dinner on a Thursday evening. It has a very large and splendidly restored interior. We were quite surprised to see that it was about 80% empty on a Thursday evening. The bar staff were very polite and we enjoyed a bottle of Prosecco. Our only disappointment was that at 10 pm a member of staff started to polish all the tables with a chemical spray which smelt quite unpleasant.

Lovely interior inside and a large outdoor seating area behind. Drinks are reasonably priced and the pub obviously caters well for big groups/gatherings. Lots of seating inside and out! Haven’t tried any food.

Went for lunch today as usual very enjoyable. Nice atmosphere nice stuff good food very clear loos. Best place to eat in Maidstone 😀

This is a nice pub for meeting with friends for social drinking in the evening or in the summer when using the garden. The food menu looks like good value but frequently takes longer than needed to come out and isn't of the highest quality.

Ordered tuna wrap full of the promise what a joke!! Half empty ingredients served with stale tortilla chips! Guys get a grip mc Donald's is half your prices and they can get it right. Backed the order got a refund so thought I'd try chicken shish kebab! Well the pitta you could of stood on it so hard. 3 bits of chicken and re fried chips. Serve beer not food your a joke

I am biased about this place because I used to go with my Dad to the National Provincial, later the National Westminster Bank here. I remember the high dark wood counter, the grand ceiling with its skylight and the hushed, reverential atmosphere, a bit like 'Gringott's' in Harry Potter.Anyway, the service was ok, and the food fine for what it was. Go for and appreciate the grand surroundings though.

My husband and I decided to try The Brenchley for a late lunch. We ordered sausage and mash, and quarter pounder with chips. The burger was small, certainly didn't look like a quarter pounder, and I'd say a childs size portion of chips. I was looking forward to the sausage and mash, the sausages were huge, and were the only good part of the meal. The mash was dry, with lumps and looked awful. Peas ok. I only ate one sausage, with the best bits of mash I could find. There was also a hair in the mash. Really dissatisfied as I like The Brenchley. Unfortunately, it has put me off going back for food. Lad behind the bar who served us was friendly. Cleared the table ourselves.

We arrived at the bar to unwelcoming staff that were more interested in habitat conversation than serving anyone.

I came here with a friend and we decided that we will have food as well as drinks.

Hi,I dont ever recall submitting a negative review on here but unfortunately my recent visit to this pub has left me amazed at the very poor standard of the food we were served.

Theres no doubting the pubs in a beautiful building. I regretted the big mac style burger i had with 2 patties. The patties were of low economy type clearly cheap quality. Wasnt even worth the £7 odd pounds paid. Mcdonalds is better value and quality. Would of asked for my money back if not with work colleagues.

Saturday 25th May 2019, I popped into the Brenchley and was taken ill, I fainted and was sick. I was dealt with by one of the staff, not sure if he was a manager, with a great deal of kindness.

My wife and I didn't eat but we ordered for the children. My daughter had a jacket potato, which in fairness, was value for money and came with plenty of dressed salad and was generously filled. My son had a kid's spaghetti. It was tasty enough. Overall, good value.

Been here several times lately & never had a bad experience, outdoor seating area is amazing with its own bar, indoor seating can get a bit noisy at busy times, drinks prices good & always a lot of bar staff

My wife and I went for lunch as it was a nice day to eat outside. I ordered the quarter pounder cheese burger. It was without doubt the worst burger I’ve ever been served up anywhere. The quality of meat of burger was a brown mush with burnt around the edge. Proper 100% ground beef burgers can be brought everywhere so why serve up horrendous processed brown mush burgers !!

Not having visited for some time it was surprising to see how empty the place seemed. Staggered that none of the bottled whites on the wine menu were in stock as awaitng a delivery. The failure to maintain stock levels indicates mismanagement or serious cashflow issues. Food was OK despite my wife being brought the wrong order. Wondering where this place is heading.

Been to Maidstone a few times but this place has got best garden heated lamps outside great food bar staff are assertive always willing to help

This is a great bar love the atmosphere and the outside area is lovely in the summer. I’ve eaten a few times in the day and the food has been fine. However, went last night and the food was quite bad. The mash with the sausage was mainly powder, the burgers were like flip flops and the chips were floppy but very well cooked. I should of said something really. I won’t eat there again but it is lovely for a drink.

Have been to other places for breakfast in the past but this is by far the best yet. Good food, great value and friendly staff.

One thing I do have to say is it’s a pretty spectacular building for a Wetherspoons-Esque venue. Drinks are good, service was very good and the atmosphere was good too. Nice 30 minutes spent here for a couple of drinks.

My wife and I visit this pub/restaurant on every occasion we visit Maidstone due to the fact it’s normally got a good selection of drinks and a great outside seating space. However on the last couple of visits we’ve noticed it’s deteriorating slowly with tidiness cleanliness and today lack of choice, my wife selected a Rose wine Lavender Hill white Zinfandel to drink from the wine menu only to be told sorry out of stock even thou 30 bottles on display back of bar ( sorry there fake food colouring and water !! ) so she selected another Galanti Spumante Rose sorry out of stock Really why display and advertise these on your menus ?

Very appealing and popular, clean large drinking pub with varied seating.

Visited tonight a friend. Whilst sitting in the restaurant area we saw two separate mice running across the room. The first one we let slide and had a laugh over, however the second one we decided we should notify the staff.

Attended this venue as the venue we had been looking to visit was closed until later to cater for a party. Due to a shortage of time we tried this venues food.

Service is very good. Can’t fault the staff. Food is just average. But the garden is nice with outdoor heating. Average place really

Expensive drinks - London prices and much more than Wetherspoons opposite, which has a similar decor and feels. Wetherspoons, however, actually does table service with their new app - which gives it one up on this place. Tables sticky despite several staff clearing them. Staff look miserable, but then I would be too if I had to work there.

Cheap and cheerful, loud music, average food but big portions. Basically exactly as you'd expect from a Wetherspoons, despite not being part of the brand.

Chouette endroit pour aller boire un verre et manger un petit quelque chose. C'est pas de la grande cuisine ; mais c'est savoureux quand-même. Le lieu est assez imposant ; un grand espace avec une énorme coupole au mieux et un boule à facettes qui brille de mille feux. L'extérieur est super sympa avec des tables, chaises et même des chaufferettes !

Went for a few drinks with friends on a Friday night.

I went in on Wednesday where I meet up with friends from the Maidstone area. The Courage Best was great , we met up with some people we hadn't seen in 30 years that brought back loads of memories. Keep doing what you are doing.

Had to wait over 30 minutes for our food,which is poor when you have to get back to work. Excuses of H&S; check and staff shortages, didn't affect customers who ordered after us. Anyway got a couple of glasses of wine free as compensation.

Everyone had a great meal, but sadly I could only have chips as it was the only vegan option on the menu :C

Great garden to chill in when its sunny good music playing in the back ground, can sometimes take a while to get served, food not very good.

Came here early evening with our 3 girls. Great place inside but chose to eat in the huge beer garden. There's even a bar outside which is very handy. Great choice of tables outside from 2 seaters to 8. Great atmosphere. Felt very comfortable even with 3 young girls. Ordered food which came quite quickly and was plentiful and delicious. Would definitely come again if in the area.

Visited for lunch whilst on holiday visiting family & was very disappointed. Place was empty but took almost 45 mins to get food to us & when it arrived it was cold, or luke warm at best. I had the steak cheese panini & must say the steak was tough & burnt & hubby's jacket Spud was warm & dry. Won't be rushing back next time we are in town.

from the outside it didn't look that great,but as soon as we walked in we could not believe our eyes.its huge and so grand looking.very clean and well cared for. we had burgers,we didn't wait to long for them. they were mid range price and very nice.we will be back for sure. want to give the outside area a try.

Visited the Brenchley and ordered the Big Jack burger for myself and the chicken shis Kebab for my husband. Service at the bar was swift and our meals arrived quickly. Both meals were very tasty, will definitely be coming back for more!:)

On wednesday the 11th we went to the brenchley for a meal. We ordered at 5.25pm an was told food is running late an will be about 30 to 40 mins. A hour later i asked at the bar if we had been forgotten an was told be with you soon. In the mean time no food had been served to any customers at all we noticed. A sudden rush of service an many people got food. Ours arrived an had it not been so long a wait an we were hungry they would have got it straight back. Every thing was awful, the minute steak was so called because it takes one to eat, the garlic bread was the size of a fish finger, an the burger tasted an looked like it had been cooked on monday. Have eaten there before but will never ever do so again. Worst £40 pound ever spent. My fault for not giving it back but be warned people.

This pub never fails us when we decide to have a breakfast when we are going into town early, we now always go to the Benchley, we can sit indoors or outside even in winter you can go outside but be still be warm and dry as they have a massive pergola so as a smoker (I know disgusting habit)

I couldn’t believe what they dished up. I’ve seen bigger happy meals. Very poor quality would never have a burger there again. Absolute disgrace, a little garnish costs penny’s. Please don’t treat your customers as idiots. I sent it straight back and got the fish platter,which is lovely,

On Friday and Saturday evenings the Brenchley is packed with youngsters having a great time, there are bouncers and paramedics on speed dial. On Mondays it is an empty cathedral.

Went to The Brenchley for lunch. Was very disappointing. The Jacket potato with chilli filling. Potato was mushy and like it had been frozen. Chilli was gristley and tasted like cheap mince. The children’s spag Bol looked and tasted like it was out of a tin. Wouldn’t have been an issue if it hadn’t cost over £4.

Me and my friends went there Sunday for lunch . I had a chargrilled burger with chips it cost £8. I receive a tomato lettuce leaf and soggy bun with 5 chips ! My friend’s 3 year old had a kids meal which was a lot bigger for half the price!!! Really was a disappointment for the money !

Standard type of large "pub" selling all the usual beers, spirits and wines. The food is OK and what you would expect for such an outlet. Plenty of seating and tables and a fabulous area out the back in the sun.

Brilliant veggie burger staff couldn't be more helpful with regards to finding out ingredients. All family members enjoyed a lovely lunch with very good service

Ordered two all day breakfasts and none of the meal was edible. The place itself is really nice, drinks are well priced and loads of choice and a really nice beer garden

As mentioned in the title, Weatherspoons is directly opposite and The Brenchleys biggest competitor.

Got soggy (nowhere near crisp) chips. Asked for cheese on toast without butter - it had been buttered but it was cheese on bread NOT on toast! Plus the cheese was so mild they shouldn't have used it. Use mature cheddar as the flavour goes further. This light snack was disgusting and you don't even have a choice of white or brown bread

This is a smashing pub with a great garden however, the food was very poor. Would return for drinks but wouldn't eat there again.

I would use this pub more often but live 50 miles away now. It's a big pub but still seems to have a proper atmosphere. I understand that there is a new part opening at Easter A rooftop bar called Harry's That should be good.

Visited The Brenchley a couple of times during my 2 day visit to Maidstone and yes it does get busy. However they have an excellent outside seating area with heaters and the food is good. Would certainly recommend a visit.

I love this place to meet people on a friday or saturday night. It is ideal to meet with friends for drinks before heading to a bar or club when they close. They have a large outdoor smoking area also for when the inside area gets too hot and stuffy! Definitely recommend for weekends!

Me and my partner used to come here rather often for a drink. Unfortunately a few weeks ago, when we decided to eat some food. I tried the steak. Was very lovely explained on the menu but with arrival already very disappointing for the eyes. Dare I say the taste was even worse. Although I didn't expect much for the low price. Every time we visit Britain from Holland we end up in Maidstone to spend one or two nights. After some shopping we always end up at The Benchley for breakfast and/ordinner plus a few beers. Lively atmosphere, reasonable prices and attentive staff.Great place, certainly to be recommended !

If you're young and don't mind noise, this is the place for you but being older we found conversation across the table difficult. The staff didn't get our food orders correct but when the dinners came, the food was good.

First of all, really nice staff. We went here on a family visit with and the service was attentive and quick. Food not so good. The hamburger I got was average to poor. But overall everyone else seemed very happy with their food so maybe it was mine! Would go back and give it another go if I am in the area.

Nice place to sit inside and outside in the beer garden. Ribs were good button the hamburger contained piece of plastic. Bearded waiter said he would inform the manager and let us know the answer, still waitin'.....

Popped in with my partner after a bit of shopping for some lunch. The food was great and came out quick too. The place looked nice and clean and staff were very friendly. Beautiful building to. Plus they seem to be able to keep the riff raff out, unlike the Wetherspoons across the road. Will 100% be going back.

Does what it says on the tin - a good value place to eat in town with the family. Easy to get to/from, reasonable prices and decent quality food to boot.Always our go to place to eat when we want something easy and where we know what to expect. Is it michelin star? No, but neither's the price!

We usually start an evening out here with something to eat first. The food is always great, very tasty and a nice variety of choice without being overwhelming by having too much on offer. Prices are totally reasonable for what you get, we will eat here before heading out to a night club, we always eat here as we know we are getting good quality food and good value for our money, I like to have something in my stomach before I start drinking. If there is a wait for a table they are always cleared quickly and cleaned before we sit down (reminds me where's the girl with the long red hair, she's always quick to spot and clear a table really fast and offers a smile).Bar staff could smile more, sometimes there can be a long wait to be served, they don't always acknowledge that they've seen you and serve out of order of who's been waiting the longest by serving someones that just got there. But the food is definitely worth the wait.

This is a large very open pub with an outdoor bit at the back. This was very smoky so perhaps not a good place to sit if you don't smoke. We sat inside and the menu is a pretty standard pub grub menu. We ordered quickly but had a bit of a wait for the food to arrive. It was nice food when we did get it. Nothing remarkable but good for what it was. My friend ordered the chicken fajitas which was supposed to be to share. Although the there were enough wraps and condiments there was no where near enough chicken to share with another person.Would I go again yes it's a bit like an up market Wetherspoons.

You cannot beat the Brenchley atmosphere, lovely foo, great drinks and a wicked beer garden. I love that there is another bar out on the terrace serving fresh coffee and cocktails.

Popped in here for a quick lunch today. Sat on the garden terrace ordered Nachos with Chilli, glass of wine and a Diet Coke - £19.50 total so very reasonable.The Nachos took around 35 minutes to arrive and were pleasant enough but nothing amazing. The drinks were fine but the wine glass was dirty and the coke glass was warm.It's an ok place, felt slightly grubby and a fair few hardened smokers/drinkers crowding around the doors.Certainly wouldn't go out of my way to go back but definitely not a bad place - just not one that appeals to me. There's loads of room to sit either indoors, outdoors or there's an outdoor space that is covered so that's a positive for Maidstone.

Having moved to Maidstone back last year we came across this pub after meeting new friends for drinks. I love this pub..the staff are always friendly, drinks prices are really reasonable and the outside area is really amazing. The outside bar is also so handy. I enjoy this pub every time I visit can't wait till the next visit with friends.

Met with group of friends to celebrate 2 leaving work. Friday night so very busy and always noisy as the high ceiling echoes sounds. Difficult to get served as men at the bar seemed to push in and get served first. Ordered Piri piri chicken burger and girl obviously misheard as got ordinary chicken burger in a bun that was burnt. A great evening but food was not up to the normal high standards

Came here for drinks for my husband's birthday with some family. Lots of great variety on drinks, they have some new Smiroff flavoured shots which went down well. Some of us had some cheesy chips and although they were OK, the cheese tasted like cheap cheese was used so they could be better if they used nicer cheese.

Went here for some lunch and a few pints with a mate last Saturday. Decided to go for the tuna raps with salad and tortillas. For £5 it was amazing, seemed to take an age to eat as was that big and tasty. Waiting time at the bar for drinks also very good, as they seem to have a good number of staff on which is always good to see. Summing up I would highly recommend this place for value for money and good service.

Popped in for early dinner after shopping. You can't beat it really for the money! Great atmosphere too.

The Brenchley offers good gastro pub food at good price and is better quality than Weatherspooons fare, This is one the few pubs to offer proper Hieniken beer in Maidstone also. The beer garden is covered and features heat lamps for colder weather so it is still a pleasant place to sit in the colder and wetter months. The "flowers" in the beer garden could do with a bit of a dust.
