Stayed 2 nights in the Doubletree Hotel in which the brasserie is located. Really looking forward to trying out. Completely unable to as both nights it was a private function. No warning from hotel and no signage to say so, stood like an idiot at the 'please wait here to be seated'. Really don't waste your time even trying!

They are tied with the Waldorf for having the best Haggis in Edinburgh. Another thing they have good black pudding too . Also they have the second best Scottish breakfast 🥞 buffet in the city 🏙️ after the Waldorf. Lastly, the people who work here are very nice.

We went to the restaurant past Saturday to celebrate a few special occasions... The Ladies at the entrance were polite and welcoming, the top floor set up was alright.. Dominika was serving out table and she asked if we wanted to get some olives and bread before our starters arrived ( but never got undelivered, probably forgotten). Anyway, I expected a Sommelier to help us to choose a wine but no staff has ever offered this. For a starter I have ordered the ''Bread'' kitchen Cullen skink soup , the soup looked ''sad'' mostly water and few mussels ...no even bread with butter on side...What was the point of calling a restaurant 'Bread kitchen if you don't even get a slice ...Pathetic. My partner was lucky he paid extra £1.50 and got delicious salad with crispy duck , thankfully he shared with me...Again main course was okay, aged burger , dry but supplements like' was £3 , my partner sirloin steak was not too bad. Overall, no specials were offer, overprized , some staff were passing on the floor and starred at you abruptly... Sorry G.R. , but I would not recommend this place to anyone...

It was my granddaughters 18th birthday. She chose to eat here. We were all surprised at the high prices but decided as it was a special occasion then, why not. We ordered bread and butter and haggis bites to munch on whilst we chose our mains. First complaint - the bread basket arrived with four rolls for five people. I had to ask for an extra one. On arrival of our maincourse, four of the five plates arrived cold and in particular the roast beef was also cold. The vegetable sides were all over-cooked and the celeriac was floating in water. If it wasn't for the fact that I don't mind eating my food cold, I would have made another complaint. The last straw was when three of our four coffee's arrived cold that I decided to make another complaint. The waiter looked at me as if I had two heads, he then apologised and said fresh hot ones would arrive as soon as....... 'Kitchen Nightmares' comes to mind. This was a very disappointing first experience in a restaurant that should really be replicating what Mr Ramsay stands for when it comes to running a restaurant. So, why is he allowing this to happen in his own restaurant in Edinburgh?

Had just a light meal of soup and the veggie sharing platter. Soup was delicious, but the bread coming with both dishes was the cheapest white, badly toasted bread. Sharing platter was also a bit disappointing for a high class hotel restaurant, briney artichokes and olives with no marinade/herbs/anything special, and unflavoured roasted veggies. Service and cocktails were great however, and they are happy to accommodate vegans.

I loved the convenience of a hotel restaurant (this is attached to the Double Tree.) We did not include breakfast with our hotel reservations, but did enjoy the Scottish breakfast one morning while there. I loved the option to have omelettes, pancakes, waffles, etc made to order in addition to the buffet. Service was very good, efficient and friendly. My son particularly loved the yogurt on the continental buffet area :) My husband and I found one pastry that was out of this world - maybe with hazelnuts and honey - we were not sure. My son and I also had one dinner here, choosing the fish/chips and burger. Very good. Again, probably could find less expensive somewhere else - but I found typical of a hotel restaurant for price.

This place used to have a vegan chef, and was proud of its delicious vegan menu. So what on earth has happened? The bruschetta starter looked and tasted like white supermarket baguette topped with vegetables from a jar. And the 'whole cauliflower' main dish was basically a few sweet vegetables, topped with a few boiled cauliflower florets - plonked down on the table by the waitress saying 'there you go lady'. Completely tasteless - so much so, that I complained and the cost of the dish was removed from the final bill. My husband's halloumi stick starters were lukewarm and his sea bass was dry and over-cooked. Service was bizarre. We had a lovely waiter to start with. He took our drinks order, but then a flustered waitress came and insisted on taking the drinks order again - asking if we wanted white or red cabernet sauvignon. She then faffed about, and brought the wrong items to the table. The whole event was a very expensive fiasco, never to be repeated.

Main courses didn’t disappoint either, good size portions and well cooked. Limited menu for gluten free with only one choice in each course, unfortunately they had run out of the gluten free desert option ( brûlée???!) so the rest of our party declined the puddings. For a Sunday lunchtime the place was empty but that may be due to the prices ( even in Edinburgh they were a little overpriced) Luckily we had a tastecard so had a significant discount.

The Bread Street Brasserie is located in the Doubletree Hilton Edinburgh hotel. The hotel entrance/lobby is welcoming and the Bread Street Brasserie, the hotel's restaurant, is located on the left-hand side of the lobby. We had breakfast there and also dinner on the first night we arrived for convenience. The breakfast, which is always included in my Hilton stays (diamond member) was very good. It is a breakfast buffet with everything you would expect: hot and cold cereals, full English/Sottish breakfast (eggs, beans, mushrooms, sausage, bacon, etc), fruit, yogurt, breads, coffee, juices. They will also make waffles, pancakes and other types of eggs. The waitstaff is curious and friendly, although a bit slow when the dining room is crowded in the mornings. I would suggest having it included in your room rate. I am not sure of the cost if it is not included. The dinner menu is limited in variety. My husband had the Lamb Shank and I had the Linguine in Carbonara Sauce, both very delicious and well presented. Each for £17 and £16 (all the mains were in this price range), so not inexpensive, but good quality.

Service was great, but I will add that we were one of 3 groups and there were 2 servers so cannot comment on what the service is like during busy periods. The food was great, both the entree and the main were very well cooked, had a certain class to their plating and it was reasonably priced for an in-hotel restaurant. We arrived on Saturday at 5.30pm as a party of 8 adults and one child to celebrate a family birthday meal. I should add at this point there was only one other couple dining in this establishment. Service was the poorest I have ever experienced in Edinburgh. By 6.40pm we were still awaiting food. I approached a staff member to ask what the problem was - no Manager was available! We were however offered a free drink whilst we awaited the arrival of the food!! When the food did arrive the quality of the steak which 2 persons in our party had ordered was poor and very fatty - fries overcooked! The evening was completely ruined by the poor food and service which I was extremely embarrassed about. I very, very reluctantly paid the bill which was in excess of £200. I also passed my comments to a Receptionist on my way out - to be honest no one was interested! I would definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone!! Had given my husband a voucher for his birthday to go to one of the restaurants Vegan Nights and sadly the experience was very underwhelming.Service was poor when you consider the fact that this is a Hilton restaurant. Waited a long time to even get a menu and had to ask for it in the end. The waitress forgot our wine order which we also had to ask for, after having our food served. I chosen a soup for a starter which was served without the bread and butter it was supposed to have on the side. And when we ordered our dessert, only 1 was brought in without any questions. We asked if we could please have the dessert for my husband too and were told we would have to wait a while as they had to make it up. The food in itself was very underwhelming. As a top end hotel restaurant you would expect a bit more effort going into creating a vegan menu and not just have a choice of baked potato, spring rolls and a burger, which anyone can make at home. We chose the burger which was really disappointing. The bun was a plain white McDonalds looking roll, and the fries on the side looked like they were straight out of a bag of frozen Tescos french fries. The burger in itself was not very tasty and had large lumps of sundried tomato.I really dont enjoy writing critical reviews of places, but I just felt this one had to be said. It was supposed to be a happy occasion but we came away very disappointed, and we are usually not picky. Sadly we cannot recommend going to the vegan night here and will definitely not be coming back.

Our starters were decent, and our desserts pleasant (the chocolate avocado mousse with banana was my favourite dish of the night); but I found our mains bland and lacking flavour. Not to mention the store bought Quorn products that were in our mains!!!!One would expect a restaurant which holds itself in such a regard to at least make their meals rather than buying them from a store..There were at one point 4 waiting staff attending our table which began to feel overbearing, and we had to ask for things to be removed from the table when finish even with all these waiting staff around us.I can now understand the mixed reviews regarding this restaurant, and I don't think we would return.

My beef cheek main was delicious and soft, while the balmoral chicken was equally delicious. We were the first table in and I think the restaurant had just opened, so the food service was a little slow, but the food was worth the wait. However I imagine during a normal service it should be quicker. The only draw-back from our visitWe used a TasteCard for this meal which gives 50% off all food if you have 2 courses. Which made the meal even cheaper, full marks!

Waited for 5-10mins to be seated. Stood there looking like lemons after two service staff walked by completely ignoring us. Not busy restaurant. Not a long queue. Probably ignoring us because we arrived at 21:15 when they close at 22:00. At least if the engaged us and said the kitchen is closing then I'd understand but to ignore and hope we go away. Well that works too but then don't expect a good review or return customers.Shame as I wanted to book a night at this hotel this weekend before leaving for home after visiting Edinburgh for an exam. Will find another place to relax for the last night of my visit.

Average. Servers did genuinely try but mistakes were made with our order. Food was average, triple cooked chips were single cooked at best. Will not return. Would not recommend.

We popped in here as it was one of the very few places that accept a Tastecard in December, and I'm so glad that we did! The service was great, as was the food. The restuarant offered great value for money, even without the tastecard. We will definitely be back here at some point, with or without a tastecard.

This is for the restaurant only. We booked a table for 4 adults and 1 child to celebrate a family occasion. The table was booked two weeks earlier yet, when we went in, they had to set up a table for 5 from scratch. Not much of a welcome. Good childrens menu. Our two waiters were exceptionally polite and pleasant. Long wait for food between courses. One guest could not finish his meal as it was too salty. Why put a lot of salt on a meal when the customer can add his own at table, to individual taste? Once the salt is in, you cannot take it out. I had fish and chips. The chips tasted odd, I left most of them and normally I would eat them all. Not too happy with the fish either but no after effects so it must have been OK. We ordered desserts and coffees which duly arrived minus one. We sat and sat and eventually asked where the tart was, only to be told it had never been ordered from the kitchen! So our evening started and finished with disappointment. As I say, its the little things...

We ate in the restaurant as we had friends staying in the hotel. Food was ok but would not bring me back. Wine list did not have a good selection. However, the staff and service was excellent. OK for a hotel restaurant but there are nicer restaurants in Edinburgh.

We had breakfast here on the three mornings of our stay and t was all you could ask for - huge choice from the buffet and to-order fresh porridge and omlettes. Waiting staff were all lovely and topped up coffee cups as required. They even produced Tomato Juice, (which was not on the buffet). We had dinner on two of the nights of our stay, and once again, it was excellent. The food was well presented, and the staff were brilliant. Highly recommended - and not too expensive either!

The mushroom fricassée was amazing. It had a very chic delicious flower :). The staff was very friendly and helpful. My friends loved the experience as well. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to fully explore the menu, but I hope we'll make it back soon. Oh, the prices are really good for that area of Edinburgh!

From the moment we walked into the Brasserie to the moment we left, we where giving the best of welcomes, Lorenzo the assistant F&B manager went out his way to deliver an award winning service, I've had the pleasure of eating in some off the uks top restaurants and I've never been so impressed with the level of service as I received last night, . The food was simply Delish, the menu was executed divinely, the taste and texture of the pork main I ordered was simply beautiful! I urge any dinner being it fine or bistro to visit the Bread Street Brasserie, it was restaurant theatre at its best.

Very friendly and helpful staff but the steak was very tough, the sauce had absolutely no taste, the mushroom likewise and the potatoes had been reheated, giving the characteristic taste. The ice cream for dessert had been melted and re-frozen, so it was actually inedible. ANd I really ike ice cream. The tomato and the wine was good.

What an absolute treat. A friendly and professional welcome awaits diners at this superb restaurant. Table service is attentive without being intrusive. Freshly baked bread is complimentary, and is delivered warm to your table while you ponder the menu. The Head Chef changes the menu every 3 months, offering customers different seasonal offerings, sourcing excellent quality local ingredients where possible. I was lucky enough to start with the haggis, what a well presented dish... You will not need a large main if you select this option! My partner had the smoked haddock fishcake, with soft poached egg and pea puree, a slightly lighter starter, again perfectly presented, and since she went on to have a cote de beouf, it was a wise choice! The cote de beouf was huge, perfectly cooked and served on the bone with luscious sides. My main was the chefs special, sautéed beef in a paprika sauce with chipalatas and a gorgeous mashed potato. This dish is rich and filling. Our perfect meal was accompanied by a nice bottle of white rioja, which at £22 a bottle, represents great value. To sum up.... A perfect meal, created by a genius head chef and team, delivered by great front of house staff, in a lovely setting. I will definitely be returning!

Went today lunchtime with my friend who was celebrating a birthday. We were the first people dining at 12.45 then another couple came in around 1.15pm. Thought it would have been busier with the Festival. We had the deal with a glass of wine and three courses for £17 or two courses and a glass of wine for £14 (lunchtime only). We both opted for the black pudding scotch egg which was absolutely delicious. It was so crispy on the outside and the black pudding (instead of sausage meat) on the inside with a warm soft egg in the middle. Never tasted anything like that before, loved it ! Then we both went for beef with mash, and again really really nice and lots of it I could not finish it. When we were deciding about a sweet along comes our waitress with two plates with Happy Birthday (in chocolate) on, some brownies and raspberries, which was a lovely surprise. After that we didn't go for the sweet but coffees which were not hot enough. The waitress Laura was very attentive and chatty, in fact a little too chatty. I don't see this friend very often as she stays out of town and when we get together we have a lot to talk about, and we felt Laura was interrupting our conversation. Maybe it was because it was not busy she felt she had to keep speaking to us, but we prefer just the server asking once if the meal was okay. We were not going to mention the cold coffee (we had paid for the meal by this time) but she asked us if we didn't like it as we had left some. So she then came back and offered us another if even a take away coffee which we declined. We would definitely eat here again and recommend it as the food was fantastic.
