We ate there prior to the Steve Hackett concert. We had pre booked the Brassiere. The food was excellent. But what made the experience so special were the incredible staff. I can't praise them highly enough. they were so polite, friendly, and attentive. I will definitely be back. The concert was brilliant as well.

My mum and me enjoyed a pre-show meal here which was both good quality and good value for money. We had the two courses set menu which was accompanied by mini bread loaves and butter as a complimentary amuse bouche. We booked for 5pm which as it turns out was too early as the waiting staff were incredibly efficient at delivering our food and cleaning away our plates!

When I’ve visited the brasserie before the food was great and the staff friendly and helpful. Started badly - the bread, butter and oil board with really dry bread. We could see into the kitchen and saw lots of boards sitting under hot lights on the pass - we were in early so presumably anyone later got toast! The menu was pretty uninspiring. They claim it is tailored to the concert but I can’t see the link between Brahms or saxophones and mussels in a Greek sauce. We were rushed through - starters arrived shortly after our cocktails and the main course not long after. Menu choices were one meat / one mussels/ vegetarian/ vegan. Disappointing and I won’t hurry back. Staff were trying hard but not well supervised and not knowledgeable - a neighbouring table were asking reasonable questions about wine and the waitress was having to go repeatedly for help and fobbing them off. Our waiter didn’t know what the mussel dish was as it was new’. Belies the website’s claim that menus are always tailored to the concert…

This is a review of the Brasserie 'restaurant' only. Apparently, ".. our chef thoughtfully crafts the three-course options to match the mood of music." The setting is lovely, the food is motorway service station quality at best, with a hint of 1970's school dinner thrown in. Lots of eateries in the local area, that's where we will be having our pre-concert food from now on... Definately one to avoid.

We booked The Brasserie before watching PMJ. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. The menu was one page with about nine choices six of which were burgers. When said burger arrived it was dismal. A large plate arrived with a half a plate of food, the burger reminded me of eating at a Wimpy when I was a child. My partner ordered one of the only two choices of dessert. Pineapple upside down cake with ice cream, this looked like something from school dinners in the 1970s. I would not recommend this establishment for its food.

We were very disappointed with our pre-concert dining experience at the Brasserie and not for the first time. I believe it is under new management since our last visit which was before the pandemic and our hopes were high of a great relaxed meal before our concert. However there were faults at every step that meant after over two hours went into the concert hall far from relaxed. People who arrived after us, often tables of four, received their food before us, a couple. The three courses we had were all either mis described or poorly executed. The starter was fresh asparagus with hollandaise sauce with a poached eggs. All fine except the egg was solid, not runny. More hard boiled than poached. This poor execution spoiled what was otherwise a good simple dish. My main was described on the menu as sirloin steak but when I asked for it medium rare was told it either had to be medium or well done. My puzzlement at this was explained when it was served as it was actually roast beef cut from a joint, not an individually prepared sirloin steak. The meat itself was tasty and tender but it was not a sirloin steak. The dessert was described as a crème brûlée but was in fact a set custard because there was no crispy brûlée topping. After all this we waited 15-20 for coffee and had to remind staff we’d ordered it. All in all very disappointing and we sadly won’t risk it next time.

I visited with my wife for afternoon tea, a lovely birthday present, very excited it was at The Sage. On arrival we were seated in The Brasserie, a large restaurant area. There were only a handful of other people, the area was cold and soulless. The food was ok although the desserts were extremely small. Service again was ok. Nothing dreadful but just totally uninspiring. I'm pleased we didn't pay as it didn't represent value for money based on the overall quantity of food provided. We were in and out in about 45 minutes. To make our afternoon more enjoyable we drove to South Shields and walked for an hour along the coast. I would love to recommend it as the building is superb but, based on our experience, I honestly could not.

We booked for afternoon tea as we were seeing a show at the Sage and we thought it would be lovely to have a special afternoon tea beforehand. We didn't book an offer we paid full price although I later found out there are offers available if you look for them. Our table was small and really quite cold (we kept our coats on the whole time) although there was a good view over the river tyne. When the food came it was just as well we weren't really hungry as there was very little to eat and no proper cakes although there was one scone each. It certainly wasn't what we saw on the website. I did tell the serving lady that it wasn't very good but we weren't after a discount - we were just really disappointed as it didn't live up to the "special" description on the website. The service was really poor as well - we had to chase for everything. I wouldn't recommend and I wouldn't go again.

The Brasserie has struggled over the years to produce consistantly decent food but this year we thought that it had at last turned a corner, however we were disappointed last night. A great lecture by Greyson Perry and then dinner, a treat not to have to rush a meal beforehand. We were surprised people were turned away from the Brasserie at 730pm when it remained less than half full for the rest of the evening. Had to ask 3 times for the olives, before our starters, but that didn't happen. Our starters were ok, mains very average..a fatty belly pork with no attempt to crisp the skin and very salty pigs in blankets. When we asked for a coffee at 850pm, we were told we couldn't have one as the café next door was closed and that is where the coffee machine is....despite the whole area being open plan. Really, a major cultural venue but no kettle in the kitchen? Ridiculous and a very poor ending to the evening.

We booked a table at The Brasserie for 6.15 on Sunday 26th May, expecting to sample the delights of their "fine dining" menu, at their ADVERTISED pre-concert prices of 2 courses for £16 and 3 courses for £20. These prices feature clearly on their website and are frequently referred to in other reviews. We were initially disappointed to be presented with a menu entitled "Sunday Lunch." The Sunday Lunch menu is priced the same as above and is available from 12.00 until 3.00. Our menu had everything individually priced and no offers were mentioned. In effect, it was an A la Carte menu, rather than a Table d'Hote menu. It doesn't say anywhere on the website that an A la Carte menu is in effect at certain times. Indeed, when I spoke to Alex, the manager of The Brasserie later, to enquire about the set prices; he stated to me "that the set prices were available seven days a week, at all times."

I was enticed in by the watercress soup, which was really flavoursome-- multilayered tastes and nicely textured. The mains were also superb. The lamb looked amazing although I had the smoked haddock and prawn risotto, which was delicate and not overly smoky. For those who had the lamb, the real treat was gluten free Yorkshire puddings, which looked great, and I'm told were just right. We are all gluten free by necessity, so that is a big plus. And, out of greed not necessity we had dessert. Champagne sorbet was I hear light and clean tasting, mine was the dark chocolate cake with raspberry coulis. Gorgeous, but so rich I had to share it. And finally, the beer from Hadrian border brewery was gluten free and perfect. I love being in the Sage anyway, and lunch at the brasserie has made this Sunday lunchtime special for us.

We normally visit before we attend a concert at Sage Gateshead. Very good meal, good service, and helpful and friendly staff. New menu this year is very good, with good selection too.

I visited the Brasserie before a show, I was eating alone, the staff were friendly and professional. I had a table for one and was offered a drink on arrival, I was given a few minutes to choose. Once my order was taken my food arrived promptly. The food was excellent, and I had sufficient time to have two courses before the show. I will certainly recommend the restaurant and will happily eat there again.

Booked for 6.15, but arrived early (5.45) and were taken straight to our table. We chose to have nibbles and 2 courses. All the food was delicious and well presented delivered in a timely fashion by very friendly staff. Also means you don’t have to search outside for somewhere to eat or brave the cold. A lovely relaxing way to begin your evening.

My Mother is nearly 90 years old, she likes the opera so I decided to bring her to the Sage to see a performance by the RNS. We both enjoyed the performance.

We used a voucher for Sunday lunch special (10/02). It was absolutely gorgeous, all food served was hot, nicely presented and very tasteful, we had carrot soup which was served nice and hot, prawn cocktail(obviously this was not hot), both starters were very nice. Lemon chicken which had a beautiful flavour and very moist, and roast beef, a very generous size cuts of tender beef, mustard mash roasted potatoes and vegetables very nice, cabbage was very nice, i'd like to know how that was cooked. dessert we had a generous portion of steamed treacle sponge, which was amazing. The staff were very attentive from our arrival to our departure, we will be visiting The Brasserie again. Venue and atmosphere extremely good

First time dining at this restaurant. Food and service were very good. Price was reasonable too. Great location and very central to go to a lot of great bars afterwards especially over the bridge on the Newcastle side of the river. Tables in the restaurant set up so the 4 of us felt we had private dining

Another lovely meal here, made even better by our lovely server, Julie and her colleagues. We majored on the black pudding stack starters and the bacon chop mains both with "crispy egg"-how do they do that? Delicious and full of flavour. There was a tiny glitch in our order which caused a few minutes delay-we weren't at all concerned-but Julie took the drinks off the bill by way of apology. We wouldn't have dreamed of asking but it was such a nice gesture.

We purchased an itison voucher for a birthday gift. Everyone enjoyed themselves This little restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere and the 2 course lunch everyone enjoyed! Gorgeous prawn cocktail starter and beef dinner to finish. Sadly no room for pudding though. This will not be my last visit. Great for an occasion or treat

We often eat here before a concert and are never disappointed. On our most recent visit the place was full but service was excellent (special mention for Maria!) and the meal tasty and well-presented. Price is very reasonable for a meal of this quality.

Good food and friendly service combined with a superb concert after makes for a great night out. Our waitress Maria recognised us from previous visits and was very helpful and efficient commenting on the new menu in an informative way. Starters of goats cheese tart and black pudding stack were excellent (crispy egg was delicious) as were our mains of chicken and salmon. And we still found room for dessert which is also a sign of a sensibly portioned meal in our view (not quantity over quality at the brasserie

Myself and some family members had Sunday lunch here. It was absolutely lovely and the service was excellent. The food was delicious, with well cooked meat and also a very tasty veggie/vegan option for the vegetarian in our group. The portions were excellent and the desserts were delicious. Our waitress, Maria, deserves a special mention. What a friendly, helpful and lovely young lady she was who is a credit to the Sage. We will definitely be back soon to such a great and unique venue.

We dined on New Years Day. We arrived at 1.30pm to be told that there was no pork available. My husband ordered the duck to start and then the hake. I had the curried parsnip soup and then the hake. Both starters were bland even with extra seasoning and the hake was grey, tasteless and cold. The seafood risotto that came with the hake was very under cooked and tasteless again. This was the first time we have visited this restaurant and will not be returning. The menu and prices would suggest a quality meal and experience, however, that was NOT the case. On a positive note, the waiter that served us was very polite and friendly and is an asset to your restaurant.

We had a table booked for 1pm, as we were attending the New Years Day Concert. We arrived at 12.30pm, menu was presented. We ordered wine and water. Our waiter then informed us that there was no pork available and that duck was the replacement. As duck was already on the starter we felt that was not appropriate replacement. We spoke to the manager , who informed us that there was no other food available. This is a busy restaurant and we could believe what he was saying. There must have been an error with the chef's food order or his cooking and had burnt it all. If we had not being attending the concert we would have walked out. The starters at 1.30 the duck served on a bed of rocketwas tastless and had no dressing. Some dressing was requetsed and when it arrived it was not mixed and in a small shot glass, which made it difficlut to mix.. The main cousres arrived at 2pm ans were quite acceptable. Howevere the deserts arrived at 2.20 pm while still eating our main course. This meal for what we had was not cheap.

We went today for the Snowman platters before the show, 9.95 per head. Some items were okay wedges , mushrooms, stuffed jalapeños and chicken however the pulled turkey sandwich was annoying as there was literally gravy with a few specs of meat (I would have been embarrassed to serve them) and the burger wasn’t great and the onion rings were frozen. It was okay but for the cost could have been better quality and the atmosphere was very lacking in Christmas spirit. Was advertised as having Children’s film characters also but in fact it was just Anna and Elsa who only said hello and were in the whole Sage building anyway. We also thought the kids snowman biscuit would look like the snowman in the film but it wasn’t. There was crackers on the table but the prizes were terrible, a gift tag! In one. My advice would be avoid the brasserie for the snowman platters and eat elsewhere or save your money. Cost us £50 for 4 of us for a below average tea, could have been so much better. Performance was superb though.

We were going to see Kate Rusby at the Sage and decided to dine prior to the show. Booking was simple. The Festive Menu catered for all needs and was reasonable priced. Nice wine choices also. The staff were very efficient and professional. I’m sure the same standards would be met anytime of the year. We would highly recommend the brasserie for before show dining in fact we are back on January 1st.

A couple of years ago, we had a disastrous time here with appalling service and vowed never to return. The catering manager has changed since so we thought we would give it a try again, having had some really nice food in the adjoining cafe. What a difference! Our waitress, Julie was an absolute delight-helpful, friendly and efficient. The service was spot on and the Festive Menu had a good range of choice. The puds in particular were gorgeous. If these standards are kept up, we will be regular pre-show diners. Thanks to all the staff for a memorable night.

While my daughter shopped I popped in here for an oat milk latte and was served by a woman who to be honest looked like she didn’t want to be there. I paid for my drink and waited patiently, the lady who was making the drink said it was ready. I politely asked if it was the oat milk latte and the woman who had taken my order barked at me that’s not what you ordered. I explained I ordered an oat latte and she snapped at me, that’s not what you asked for with a very stern look. I explained I don’t drink milk and I wouldn’t have asked for anything other than what I ordered. The lady then demanded another 60p from me which I proceeded to pay. I could see the woman who was making the drink was rather embarrassed and said it was ok to me. I won’t be returning here to be spoken too like that and she needs to learn some manner and put a smile on her face. Extremely disappointed .
