My friend and i had a lovely afternoon tea in the Brasserie today. The sandwiches, cakes and scones were all delicious. Service was quick and, as always, our lovely waitress, Vicky, made us feel very welcome.

Didn’t feel there was a huge amount of choice. Don’t really want fish and chips or burger when you go somewhere special. Ended up with two starters and a pudding. Soup ok, not overly hot and two lumps of stock cube in it not just pieces of apple. Cheese soufflé good. Pecan choux bun horribly sweet. Wasn’t as expected, was overfilled and rolled in sugar I think. Far too sweet and sickly. Husband had fish cake, small but ok. Apple tart dessert. All in all overpriced and underwhelmed by the whole thing. No what we thought it would be. A clear Car parking sign at entrance would be helpful

Beautiful location with clean, light and airy decor, beautiful views and lots of space. the service wasn't the best - a bit slow, and we had to ask twice for several things which just weren't appearing. That said, the food was really lovely when it did come and we all came away feeling very satisfied. Would definitely recommend and return.

My wife and I have been visiting Calcot over many years and have always enjoyed lunch in the Conservatory, now The Brasserie. Today we lunched in the Brasserie with longstanding friends from Cheltenham. But Oh dear there must have been a problem in the kitchen. The White Onion Soup starter arrived cold and was barely warmer after sending it back. The Squid starters were warmish but went cold whilst we waited for the Cauliflower soup to be heated. The Papadelle mushroom risotto and lobster linguini arrived just warm and went cold whilst eating. The Hake main course was also lukewarm. All in all a bit of a disaster after parting with a considerable £226 for 4 meals of 2 courses. But one good note - the waitress who has a foreign accent and who has been serving for many years was as always; welcoming, happy and very efficient.

Both dinners at this restaurant were really disappointing. Simply put, for what you have to pay, the food just isn’t up to standard compared to similarly priced restaurants. One evening I ordered the chicken - the portion was small and it was dry. It’s difficult to not cook chicken properly but unfortunately this restaurant managed it. The hake and monkfish were were also overcooked. After speaking to other guests, they echoed similar thoughts. I have to say the overall stay/spa/gym was lovely and the grounds are beautiful, however this restaurant is really letting the venue down. Please listen to feedback and make improvements to really make Calcot Manor an unforgettable experience.

This restaurant continues to disappoint. We have visited far less often in recent years but visited today for the first time in a while. The staff were all very pleasant and the food when it eventually came was good quality. But the whole process was so painfully slow on what appeared to be a fairly quiet evening in the restaurant. If you can't serve customers food in a reasonable time consistently, you will struggle. We're not particularly interested in courses being given free of charge or the offer of free drink. What we prefer is great food, served at a reasonable intervals with pleasant friendly service. Food 👍 Service 👍 Timings 👎

This review is regarding The Hive, formerly The Gumstall Inn at Calcot spa. We got married there in 2010 and decided to pop back for a glass of wine. The place is beautiful, charming, chilled and after the refurbishment in April the feel is very different from when we were there in 2010, but lovely, service very attentive, polite and quality of everything fabulous, as we expected. What we didn't expect was a standard £4.00 service charge on top of the £31 for 2 glasses of wine and some olives (very nice they were too)! Feel like it ruined the experience for us to be honest, which is a real shame as everything else was great. Just feel that £4 was an unnecessary addition to what was an expensive treat anyway.

We went to the Brasserie for my birthday dinner. We were a group of five and we were all very happy with our choices of food. They didn’t take long to bring the entries and whole dinner ran in a very good pace. The waiters although young were very able and professional. I guess they overheard any mention of my birthday and brough me a surprise: a bowl with 3 scoopes of ice cream with a message writen with chocolate. I was very touched. The night was very pleasant.

No where as good as it use to be starters where the best part if the Sunday lunch the roast dinner was by far not the best with baked on gravy on the plate skinny beef well over cooked no checking on by staff to see if all ok I think either the chef has changed or he had a day off since the Gumstool has gone this is the 2nd meal in this restaurant we have had and was not good

Whilst not the most extensive menu, the food and service were excellent. After a number of visits to Calcot, over the years, it never fails to deliver.

The brasserie has relaunched (previously the restaurant at Calcot); decor is tasteful and looks the same as previous - nice and light and airy, looking over the grounds etc. We had afternoon tea which we felt was good value vs other places. Everything was tasty and well presented but so sweet heavy - only 3 finger sandwiches and then double scones, cakes etc. More sandwiches or a savoury item would be nicer. The children’s afternoon tea was cute but didn’t differ much to the adults - simpler cakes like the simpler sandwiches would be nice ? The inclusion of a milkshake was nice though. Also we booked for the kings coronation weekend and there were no decorations or even reference to it on the tea, which seemed a missed opportunity. Service was friendly but slow.

We had our anniversary dinner at the atrium, and it left us underwhelmed. We had a taxi booked to take us to the hotel but they arrived late to collect us, it was completely out of our control. Out of courtesy, we called ahead to say we would be 10-15 mins late, to which the receptionist replied we would probably miss our first couple of courses. For starters, the timing of that doesn't work out, but equally, it sets the tone for how this hotel treats its customers. We objected and talked to a manager who said they'd do the best to accommodate us being 10 mins late. Jeez, thanks. The kitchen must be so overworked we're grateful. We arrived and the receptionist asked if she could take our coats, it wasn't until the end of dinner when I went to the loo I saw that our coats hadn't been put away safely they were just put on a peg in the main thoroughfare. Had I known that I'd have kept it safely with me. We went to the atrium dining room to see 6 inward facing tables. We were the 5th to be seated. The room itself has very corporate decor, a few flipcharts and red marker pens wouldn't have looked out of place. The wine list is small and tops at £120 a bottle, unless there was another list we were unaware of. Our white burgundy was served in red wine glasses. We noticed that the folks at the next table had their white in white wine glasses. The 6th table of guests arrived and then food service started. For each course several wait staff queued up with dishes for all tables and then the one waiter that was allowed to interact with customers deposited them on the tables and then stood at the front of the class, I mean dining room, and announced to us all what the dishes were. A few courses in I found this batch processing of dinner to be tiresome as we had to wait for others to get their food, have swapped dishes explained privately and then he would address the room before we could eat - meaning our food was getting cold. The pace of dinner was therefore dependent on the slowest diner before the plates were cleared and the next course could begin. If someone went to the loo the service didn't wait and the food was delivered and announced without them - always hallmarks of high end dining. Cutlery wasn't laid it was plonked on the table for diners to set themselves. Any requests of the waiter were met with comments of why he was busy and we had to wait. When people part with their hard earned cash they want to feel special and appreciated. Tone is usually set at the top, which is where the inflexibility and batch approach to dinner must come from. I dont particularly like being shunted through a dinner experience en masse. Its a shame as the service detracted from the food, which was good but not special enough that I should be expected to experience it like a coach load of punters. My sympathies to the chef, i can only imagine the hardship that it is to cater for 12 covers in an entire evening, When dining out, you always remember how the place made you feel, and lord of the mayor's left us feeling meh. Maybe communal dining for £450 a pop just isn't for us.

Very disappointing. Was a special birthday treat and the meal was awful and the staff didn’t care Steak chewy most got spat out. Pork crackling tasteless and hard , chicken and chips … just that and not worth the money Very very disappointed
