The Brasserie in York

Visited for the outdoor biergarden and pizza service, absolutely fabulous 👌 and just what we needed after long day of travel. Cocktail and cider and a spicy pizza with fries, perfection. View didn't hurt either

Table D'hote menu Let's start with the service. Amazing, simply amazing. The young lady was attentive and friendly. The French onion soup was packed with flavour. Beef cheek was so tender it fell apart. Chicken parmagiano was really tasty. Creme brulee and lemon tart dessert were top notch. £30 for 3 courses, with great food, amazing service and a stunning setting made for unbelievable value for money.

This was one of the most memorable dining experiences of our 2-week visit to the UK. The atmosphere is amazing, with lighted dining bubbles outside and handsome dining rooms inside. More importantly, the food was incredible. The French onion soup and the brisket wellington were incredible. One in our party proclaimed they served "the best carrots I have ever eaten." The staff was incredibly friendly as well. Be sure to add this to your list and make reservations.

Visited for dinner when my friend and her Mother came to York. All the staff were friendly and polite, with a special mention to Georgina who served our table for her attentiveness; she gauged our level of interaction perfectly with well-timed polite, funny, and engaging conversation.

I visited this restaurant one year ago. I’m writing this review now because I have tasted a few French onion soups in the last year, and none came close to the one I had here. It was unforgettable!

We had been out all day and were staying at The Churchill so didn't want to go far. Decided to eat in the Brasserie and what a great decision that turned out to be. We ordered from the set menu which we were surprised they offered on a Saturday. My wife had soup and I had the pork belly. Both were amazing. In fact the pork belly starter was the best I had had in York all week! I had the minute steak and she had the beef cheek. Both were excellent again. Service was amazing as always. We will always eat here now when we are in York which is regularly.

As part of the Christmas package, we had several meals in the brasserie and found the meals to be of high quality and well presented. Staff are friendly and very service oriented. The chefs dealt with food allergies with ease. Gluten and black pepper allergy for one, and soya one for a second guest in the party.

Delicate dinner in a unique atmosphere, served by a professional and friendly staff. Even our 10years old son was impressed. Thanks for a nice evening, even germany lodt their round if 16 in euro 2024.

We stayed at the hotel for a weekend break and tonight we had dinner here and the food was amazing , the staff were very attentive . Couldn't fault anything.

Excellent atmosphere and decor, even better staff. Try the Alaska brownie, it's as creative as it gets, and tasty too. Really liked our visit.

They say ‘fine dining’ but the soup is reheated out of bag. Go somewhere that can cook from scratch!

We love this place. Living locally we use the Churchill often for drinks and the great outdoor eating area is fabulous and food is yummy 😋 X

Beautiful building, very elegant! The food was lovely paired with great service.

Absolutely cannot stand self-ordering through the app. Either each diner has to bring a device, download the app, painstakingly go through all the pages of the menu and then relay preferred items to the diner who is paying/orders for all -OR- one person has to download it and read the entire menu out loud to the table. Meanwhile, if you hear a dish that sounds good you have to hold that thought in case something else comes up that you might like better while the reader finishes dictating the food menu and then the drinks menu, then the main person has to tap back through the menu to find what it was you wanted to add it to the order. For each person and for each item and drink and sauce and side. Took our table of 3 fully 15 minutes to get it sorted during which time no conversation could take place because we were all listening to the menu and making mental notes. It's ridiculous. Massive buzz kill. Restaurant making the diner do the work for them. For that much work I should have been compensated. I came to be waited on and socialize with my friends. Igloo fee is falsely advertised as a deposit. (Should be illegal to call it that, frankly.) Pizzas options were nice and were tasty and delivered quickly. Nice blankets available if you are chilly.

Very grand atmosphere with some simple favourites to eat. Reasonable prices for the selection and adequately helpful staff.

Good quality food, I never make to the desert as the portions are quite generous. Recently I had the mushroom toast and schnitzel, I can recommend both positions. I will be coming back soon for another visit.

Below average starter and main however the desserts were amazing.

Dined here while visiting York with a friend. Excellent food quality, generous portions and surprisingly reasonable prices. Lovely ambience, unpretentious and relaxed. Staff were friendly and efficient. Tried the the lamb rump, breast of chicken and battered cod....all locally sourced and DELICIOUS!

Absolutely beautiful meal, would recommend anytime, not expensive either, excellent service and staff were lovely ànd couldn't do enough to please

Lovely Hotel ,clean friendly , beds comfortable, walk into center of York .Food nice .rooms and restaurant could have been a bit warmer .But then again it's a big old building with lots of character.Would go back.
