I was taken here for afternoon tea by my friend. The whole event was great from start to finish. Excellent selection including sandwiches, mini quiche, crisps, cakes, lemon posset, meringues and scones with cream and jam - all decorated beautifully with edible flowers and pea shoots. I have since been lucky enough to experience afternoon tea at Bettys in York and The Dorchester …..The Boxwood Tea far outshone both of these. Would highly recommend.

Went as part of a cycling group, quite a few of us. Despite it being a warm saturday we did manage to find enough outdoor seats. Service was good as well The food all looked to be great quality from cakes to the sausage rolls.

Visited twice whilst staying in Oundle. Pleasant cafe with outside seating. Dog friendly also inside. Breakfast and lunch were both delicious. Highly recommend crab salad with fennel, which was a special, lovely. Staff friendly, efficient service. Reasonably priced.

What a perfect place. Outside of Oundle and lovely and welcoming. Staff are friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The make a lovely coconut cappuccino which I can recommend. Menu is always tasty, reasonably priced and presented to a high standard. Service is always with a smile and a welcoming greeting. Cakes are delicious but the Sausage and Chorizo Rolls are my fav. Seating is either inside or outside. It really is a lovely peaceful place.

Whilst on a garden centre hunt found this in The Barn garden centre Oundle. Would come to this again irrespective of the garden centre. Cheaper plants elsewhere. However this cafe was great. Polite prompt service. Good selection of breakfast (to 11.30) - only gripe is a granola and yoghurt choice would be nice. Delicious looking cakes. The eggs Benedict was spot on. Perfect eggs. The breakfast bap had quality sausages and had no complaints. Varied selection of soft drinks. Space to sit outside. We were checked in on at the end but a courtesy ‘how’s things’ during would be good. All in all good quality food at a very reasonable price.

Really cosy and comfortable cafe with a varied menu, great specials and most importantly, a decent chef who knows how to make a good tasty light lunch and dress a salad. Good value too. On my visit there wasn’t a dog in sight which always pleases me. Sorry dog owners, we don’t all love eating with a doggy smell wafting around. Great little place.

So good! Met a friend for lunch, and the service and food were both fabulous. I had the soup with a cheese scone (amazing), and my friend had mushroom and egg hollandaise which looked delicious (and also tasted delicious apparently). Definitely my cafe of choice in the local area. Would advise booking during the colder months.

This cafe welcomes dogs. The staff fuss the dogs (hope they wash their hands) carefully weave their way around dogs and give them treats. Unfortunately I am nervous around dogs, especially ones that bark in enclosed spaces. I felt anxious but didn't feel that I could mention it, because the staff were so keen to welcome the dog and its owners. Such a shame, because the cheesecake is lovely, but I won't be in a hurry to return. On the plus side, it is the perfect place for dog lovers.

I visited with a friend for afternoon tea, this must be my fourth visit here for the afternoon tea. It was lovely as usual lots of variety and all very tasty, beautifully set out you could see the thought that had gone into it. The staff in the cafe are all lovely and add to the experience. I’ve tried afternoon tea in lots of places and I have to say you’d have a job to beat the Boxwood cafe.

My husband and I went here for afternoon tea. He had the standard afternoon tea and I had the gluten free version. I was worried I would got fobbed off with pre bought sandwiches and boring cakes, but I was pleasantly surprised. I had the same amount of food as my husband, there were some changes, he had a scone, I had a brownie, but I did not feel like a second class diner, which is how I usually feel whilst eating out.

We love Boxwood Cafe. Lovely, varied menu and interesting specials. The sausages are particularly yummy (Johnson's Butchers in Thrapston - another favourite). The range of cakes and sweet goodies is so varied and every one I've tried is delicious. As we live so close I've taken to popping in for take away cakes to save me baking! Always a pleasure to visit and know it will always be delicious. Thank you!

Since the start of the pandemic all our once favourite places to eat have been disappointing at best if not downright unpleasant. Not so with the Boxwood Cafe. It`s the only place where the food has remained a consistently high standard. We`re always met with a friendly welcome and the service is prompt. On top of that it`s the only place that offers a good range of gluten free cakes that are actually appetising both to look at and to eat. Most places seem to think that those of us who are gluten free have no desire to eat anything remotely pleasant, and will be happy with something akin to oven-baked cardboard. It`s advisable to book in advance to avoid disappointment, and if I had one piece of advice to improve an otherwise perfect experience, it would be `please keep it dog free!`

We stayed here on two occasions, in our campervan to the rear of inn. Quiet and good location. We enjoyed a nights sleep during both our stays. The staff at the inn are fabulous, welcoming and friendly and the owners are really doing a great job. The food was delicious and the ambiance of the inn was just what you’d hope for, log fire burning in the hearth, dog friendly and lots of positive chatter. I’d recommend this as a stopover and eatery.

Me and my husband arrived at the restaurant with our 6 month old for my sisters 18th birthday meal, we have been here on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed our time here, however this time was different. My mother had booked a table for 6 people and a baby , which was accepted over the phone, when we turned up we were greeted very rudely by a staff member , who pointed out children are not to be in the restaurant past 6 o clock, the lady then stated that this information is ‘plastered’ over the website, however when looking on the website there was nothing stating this, or certainly not ‘plastered’ all over it. I do understand rules are rules and I respect that, however the tone in which this information was delivered was very rude, it was almost as if we had brought in a disease, I really feel these rules need to be made more clear. Following this myself and my family left. We then headed over the road to the Duke of wellington where we were accommodated excellently by polite friendly staff , they even moved chairs around for us. We had a lovely meal , the food was so tasty, cheese board was great, worth every penny. We will not be returning to the love of wine, however the Duke of wellington we definitely will be.
