The Bowes Incline in Gateshead

Daughter and I arrived here after a day at Beamish Museum and were delighted by the warmth of the welcome we received. The cosy twin room was immaculate and the bathroom spotless. We were effortlessly accommodated in the busy dining room for dinner, the food was delicious and the service excellent. Breakfast in the morning maintained the same high standard. I cannot commend highly enough every member of staff we encountered and would heartily recommend a visit to the Bowles Incline for an excellent value meal and accommodation.

After a day at Beamish & a short drive, i can't recommend this place enough. We had a slight problem with one of the 3 rooms booked,the manager was absolutely on point and dealt with the issue swiftly with no issues. (Great Guy) We arrived around 3.30 dumped our bags and sat in the really nice restaurant & bar area. It was busy but they have created a really nice atmosphere. We had dinner in the restaurant, great menu to accommodate everyone. Food was fantastic & hot,I am very fussy. After a great night's sleep in a comfy bed we headed down for complimentary breakfast,again great selection,great service. If your looking for somewhere nice to stay we couldn't fault this place. Manager & Staff keep doing what your doing.

What a lovely hot tasty meal and great portion sizes, Desperate Dan pie for hubby and beef and dumpling for me, quick service very friendly staff, will definitely return. Fab music playing in background.

After not going to the Bowes for a while we decided to go for our evening meal. We both ordered steaks which came in at £25.95 each. They were cooked to perfection but the accompaniments were lacking a skinned warm tomato cold on the inside and chips my husband had peas with his as well, we had two drinks a lager and a wine we also ordered sauces with the meal and a portion of onion rings (which in most places come with the meal any way also salad. This all added up to £76 quite a bit more than we used to pay. Deffo better at the near by wheatcheif

Walked into this pub to two staff members who acknowledged us after chatting with each other for a few minutes the taller of the men said “are you here for food” we said no just drinks to which they mumbled to each other and after a while we jokingly said “we’ll sit outside if you want” and the smaller of the two rudely said” yeah well you can !! eventually they said” just sit round the corner! So rude in their approach however all was not lost this little slim combed back hair waiter was an absolute star so happy in his job he welcomed us to our table and basically was a great waiter in the 2 hours we were there ! The two that greeted us could take a lesson in customer service with him ! So if you just want drinks at this pub I’d think twice before going !

Fantastic food and service. Home cooked food and reasonably priced. Staff super friendly and helpful. Four of us at had starters and main courses no room for desserts as portions are huge! Will definitely be going back.

We had a fantastic family lunch with something to please everyone from the 4 year old to the people in their 80s. The food was delicious (try the braising steak) and the portions very generous (the children's chicken goujons could easily have fed an adult!) The atmosphere was cosy and the staff were very friendly & efficient, from the person who took the booking to all of the staff who served us. We will definitely go back for another family get together. Thank you 😊

We have been to the Bowes for our Christmas day lunch for a lot of years now. We enjoy it so much we rebook as we leave. This year was absolutely lovely, couldn't fault it. Last year was lovely but this year was to my opinion so much better. See you Dec 25th,2024 💖

We’ve had Sunday dinner here before that’s why we chose to have a Christmas fayre family meal here but we were slightly disappointed! No mash , no turnip and no Yorkshire puddings ! For how much we paid I think it was a bit disappointing especially when you have kids who love their mash and yorkshires !

We visited for my partner’s birthday. We ordered Xmas fare. As usual we were not disappointed. Service was great and the food excellent. Some places when you have Turkey they hide the dark meat which I don’t like under the white breast meat. Not at the Bowes. Really enjoyed our meal and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

6 f use went here gr8 it annual Christmas get together. We usually go to place offering party nights. But not this year. We were all pleased to had picked The Bowes. Good was great. The whole.night was very pleasant. The staff were lovely. The management should be very pleased with them. Would we have a Christmas party night again somewhere .. NO. I would go back here with my family. So thank you for a great meal,drinks and helpful staff. Only one thing (not that important) I ordered a gin.and bitter lemom. But no bitter lemon. Not to worry still a great night.

This has always been one of my favourite pub / restaurants/ hotels ever The atmosphere is amazing the staff are absolutely outstanding and make you feel incredibly welcome and can't do enough for you .

We recently went for Christmas lunch 12 of us , we had to preorder however that was east to do , great service from start to finish they were very busy but you wouldn’t know that , all the staff were very friendly , attentive and you could tell was a good team spirit , the food was excellent starters first class mains all served and warm plates food hot , meat tender , parsnips were simply the best I have ever had , plenty of vegetables and gravy , no need to ask for any extras , deserts , especially Xmas pudding beautiful , could not fault any of the food or service and great value for money , we will be back , thanks for making a great meal and occasion

Despite not booking, and it being packed, the lovely staff were still able to find 5 of us a table. We all ordered variations on sandwiches with chips: steak and onion, beef, turkey and stuffing and pigs in blankets. They were more than worth the wait as every single element was absolutely superb - the quality, the amount, the joke about if anyone wanted gravy, then four massive jugs appearing immediately. Absolutely faultless. We didn't stop complimenting the meals all through eating them. Delicious, and amazing value for money. Bravo!

5 stars plus all the way ! A visit is a must! Fantastic pub, nice setting, great menu selection which also offer specials. We’ve visited a few times now and this is place is fast becoming one of my favourite weekend haunts. Cleanliness is excellent, food amazing, service exceptional and warming. We went here today for lunch we have been a few times in the past and it has never disappointed, today was no exception even though it very busy and a wedding party in. We stayed at The Bowes Incline through luck with all Newcastle hotels being booked for the rugby however what a gem we found, we are so glad we stayed!!!Amazing staff, all friendly. Mark kept us all laughing and kept us up to date with food choices. Food was exceptional. Breakfast had plenty of choice. Beers went down too well! Rooms were really nice and comfortable.The hotel is just off the A1 which was lovely for the quietness away from the centre but still within easy reach for St James Park via taxi (around £20 for 4 of us including driver tip)We are already planning another trip without the rugby / Magic weekend!

Excellent. I’ve been a number of times over the years and it’s always great. Comms to help organise a large table for 18 was excellent. And food and service amazing. Went twice for Sunday roast which Was excellent and a family meal the day after. Great catering for parents with walking disabilities. Can’t fault it , the service , communications , food , excellent value. Beautiful place. Thanks again Bowes. You worked hard for such a big party. Excellent.

Wonderful staff. Clean and rooms really nice. Dinner and breakfast superb. Slight downside for people staying overnight, there is no lounge or comfortable chairs to relax in the evening after dinner.

Absolutely tremendous food at The Bowes Incline today2, 3 course meals2 pints and 2 juices - £50.2 creamy mushrooms on cibatta bread - delightful. So fresh and tasty.I had the beef and ale pie with veg, the pastry was sublime and homemade, the beef melted in your mouth. The vegetables crunchy and the mash so smooth and creamy.Husband had the fish, chips and mushy peas - they were all homemade, fresh and so tasty. The batter looked amazing.As I'm a glutton, we went on to get the homemade Maltese cheesecake! A little taste of heaven, not to chocolaty, just perfect.John the server was fantastic. My friend and I visited on Friday evening. The service was excellent and the meal was outstanding !We felt very safe as this pub is quite strict about covid safety. Not many pubs are as organised as this one is. It was an absolute pleasure to be there.

we ordered the steak @£21 each. What we got was a steak of average size, a half slice of tomato, 5 mushrooms, then about a third of the plate filled with boiled onion slices and peas!! the remaining third was filed with chips!!.I asked for the garlic prawns as an option (5) in total came £6.00. What surprised me was the battered onion rings were extra charge? £3.75. for 5 rings!!!The sauce was £3.75 each in a pot something your child would play tea parties with!!I had 2 beers and she had 2 glasses house wine.I'm all for going to restaurants and having a 3 course meal for similar rates but a bar meal ???I've had similar at many a commercial pub and got a 2 for 1 offer better.What was amusing was the table behind use , a group of 3 ladies when leaving were arguing over the tip, one lady placed a £5 in the try, this was quickly removed by the other lady and eventually place 3 pound coins in it. LOLThis says it ALL people.

A lovely welcome awaited my mam, daughter and myself. All of the staff were so friendly as usual. Food came promptly and all 3 meals were fab. Even my mam who eats like a mouse ate nearly every bit of her ham and eggs. Our sandwich and chips were lovely. Mmm those chips! Thank you for a lovely 1st trip inside again.

We all opted for the Sunday lunch and it did not disappoint, we all opted for the beef, vegetables were fresh and you got plenty of both. Service was brilliant and great measures are in place during the current pandemic. It’s been years since I was last there, won’t leave it as long the next time

These are difficult times for everyone but the Bowes continues to be beacon of quality an hope. We went there last week. True to form the organisation for safety was beyond reproach. That set the scene for a lovely meal. The food was first class, as always, and the service superb. Well kept beer added to the experience. There is a heady mixture of top professionalism married to an upbeat cheeriness. This sets the Bowes apart. Becky, Wayne and the rest continue to do make any visit really memorable. It really is worth making the effort to visit. Every good wish to the staff and readers.

Had been a couple of times before and with this 50% off we decided to go for A 2 course lunch. We only had 90 mins till had to leave so time the drinks came and didnt have the Thai cakes for a starter we only had time for a main meal time we waited. My partner had the mixed grill he said it was just ok the chips were a bit under cooked but rest was ok for the half price. I had the Oriental chicken & prawn stir fry i would of hate to had payed the full price of £16.10 it would of been better with just a bit sauce not swimming in it. Had plenty of staff on very friendly younger ones nice to see but won't be rushing back any time soon.
