The Bowd Inn in East Devon

The food was excellent, and the staff incredibly kind with my elderly parents. Thank you!

Visited for a carvery which was perfectly cooked and with plenty of choices of vegetables to go with the deliciously cooked meat. The coffee was just right and pleasant and not bitter. The staff were very polite,and couldn’t be more helpful and gave a great service.

Lovely day, sat outside, stopped for quick break. Barney our Cockerpoo was offered water as soon as we sat done. Know the Bowd well...👍👏

We have had the homemade steak and ale pie several times and I can honestly say it’s consistently the best I’ve ever eaten! Great, friendly service demonstrated by the fact that they even put together the pie as a takeaway👍. Highly recommended.

First class food and service will go there again

Many years since I visited this old Inn. Not changed a lot pleasent staff and good service but the carvery left a bit to be desired for my liking. Very tight with the meat and poor selection of veg no cauliflower or broccoli. And a glass of red wine rioja £8.50 really? That is extortionate. Half a San Miguel 3.50 so probably £6 a pints not cheap either I will think carefully before I go again.

Honestly I never leave reviews but the bowd deserves it. The flavour, the vibe, the staff are so polite and friendly, the food is on point. Can't even find the words, highly highly recommend. Will be coming back!!

It would be difficult to find another establishment to better the Bowd we enjoyed the carvery and fish and chips which were best I've ever had.

Had a meal with friends before Christmas. Excellent service and helpful staff (even found a Christmas card I left behind for me). Enjoyed the meal - Christmas pudding was exceptional!

Had a delicious family Xmas lunch at the Bowd. So much so that on the way out we booked for next Xmas. A big thank you to Carol and her whole team for giving us the most stress-free Xmas Day ever.

Visited today for a carvery with my children and Bill the dog for a birthday treat and wanted to leave a review. The food was delicious. The beef just the way I like it still pink and tasted really good. Great selection of veg. Even stayed for pudding although we struggled to finish as so full. The staff were fantastic, polite, attentive and above all friendly. Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Carvery on Sunday lunch time, found the beef chewy and turkey not alot of flavour and was not on a boned bird, so probably was frozen . The gravy was not good, not made with meat juices, had driven for an hour to go there, so won't be returning. Service was attentive and friendly.

Friendly and helpful staff and excellent carvery. All at a very reasonable price. Certainly recommend the most tender beef possible.

Great carvery for Sunday lunch. Good value. Good table service for drinks, desserts etc.

Staff were lovely, however my meal was not. Chose Crispy Beef with noodles from the special board. It's appearance was not ideal & totally off putting; this had a knock on affect, slithers of beef over fried on very soggy noodles. Picked my way through but left alot. Will definitely think before returning. Staff were apologetic but no discount offered....

Excellent food- great quality, good presentation, hot and not much wait for service. Very attentive staff, nothing is too much. All six of us served at the same time. No room for dessert! Meat pie special, fish and chips and falafel burgers all really great. A little chilly in the restaurant, but ok for now.

We called in on the spur of the moment for lunch today. Husband chose the Pan Fried Hake, he said it was wonderful, I do hope the compliments we voiced was conveyed to him.

Highly recommend . Abbie, Izzy and Susie were very welcoming which set a good atmosphere. The service was excellent from Laurence the waiter , plus , he had a good sense of humour . The Carvery meats were beautifully cooked and very delicious as were the good range of vegetables . Apple and Sultana Crumble was home made and very yummy . We went here today for an evening meal after reading the great reviews and we weren’t disappointed! ALL the staff were lovely, very attentive and first class service with a smile. We had a carvery & had the best one ever, piping hot & freshly cooked, having a tray to put our hot dinner plates on is a brilliant idea. The dessert menu had a great choice it was hard to choose just one each!Wished we lived nearer but if we did we would be the size of a house. Highly recommend a visit.

Great menu. Caters really well for vegetarians. Had the beef and ham buffet excellent. Cauliflower cheese was lovely. Highly recommend. Limited choice of beer selling just otter brewery ales.

Very nice old modernised pub/restaurant. Excellent maitre’d. Delicious food at the carvery. Other menu options were available. Drinks ordered were forgotten, twice, but quickly rectified by the maitre’d. All in all an enjoyable meal out. Would definitely visit again.

Great location and very cute pub. Food was wonderful and the staff were just so friendly. We had the Seafood Linguine and the Fish and Chip, both of which were fresh and a great size. Highly recommend. Great selection of desserts.

We where very warmley welcomed and made sure i was comfortable being i had a mobility scooter. The staff and service was very quick the meal was good, we had treacle pudding one night which was delicious. The only thing i would liked to see was cheese and biscuits. If we are there agsin would go again really nice old pub

Stopped at a CL campsite 5 minutes walk from this Jem of a pub, had the carvery on the Friday night absolutely very tasty, returned the following evening and was very tempted to have the carvery again but chose something of the menu still very good, very friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for us. We were celebrating the occasion of being a first time grandad.

Stopped to eat here on Wednesday lunch time.Been coming here for over 30 years when we come to Devon on holiday. I had read it had closed down ,which would be a shome to lose such a lovely pub and restaurant. Have to say this is the best food we've had in all the years coming here I had the fish pie which was fantastic really tasty and piping hot.The green veg which came with it was perfectly cooked. My wife had the Teriyaki salmon.This tol was excellent well cooked and tasty My granddaughter had the child's roast beef dinner.A really good sized portion for a 7 year old.l.The beef was excellent as was all the veg she had.She loved it. Would also like to mention how great all the staff were all nice and polite and welcoming. I wished we lived nearer we would be in every week.

Food was absolutely amazing, we had the carvery. Very good value for money. Staff were brilliant, friendly and polite, couldn't do enough for us. Felt like we were old friends round for a chat with food and drink thrown in. Highly recommend it.

What a lovely pub, great play area for kids, large car parking area, staff were friendly and kind. The food (carvery) was beautiful. The only downfall was only having the tiniest pointless bit off crackling. But that's not a negative to the pub and food. We will definitely be back.

The first time we visited this lovely pub. Lovely warm welcome from all members of staff. A good selection of food choices from the menu. We both decided to have the carvery. There were there choices of meat and a vast selection of freshly prepared vegetables. The gammon and turkey were cooked to perfection, as were the vegetables. A really enjoyable meal with fantastic service. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Taken there by friends today. They thought the carvery was open which it was not. However, we ordered from the menu and the offering was excellent. Everything was hot, very tasty and the staff were very attentive and welcoming. The pub has real atmosphere.The puddings were delicious.The dining area was very nice and scrupulously clean. Eating out these days is not cheap but I think I would be hard pressed to cook a meal along with drinks for the 4 of us for what we were charged. Well done and many thanks.

Very nice pub lunch. Tuesday the carvery was not open. The menu on offer however was really good . The food was lovely. Prices are very good value. The staff are very nice. Service was prompt, There were lots of cars in the car park but the place didn't seem crowded. Definitely a place I would use again.

The carvery was good, pity there wasn't any lamb though. Very limited choice for those who didn't want the carvery option. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

We have been to The Bowd on numerous occasions and find it to be both delicious and good value. My partner and I both went for the nut roast which has a good range of vegetables as well as the usual stuffing, Yorkshire puddings etc. Very filling. I couldn't manage a dessert although the rest of my party did and they looked really tempting. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We will definitely return. X

Had several nice evening meals at The Bowd Inn. Recently had the carvery, which is very generous. The owners and staff are very attentive, but didn't interrupt conversations - which is worth extra points in my view.

Carol was a lovely lady and very accommodating, ensuring our two dogs were comfortable to the point of bringing them a blanket to sit on. All dogs were offered a water bowl, which made us feel more at home. The food was delicious, it was seasoned and not at all bland, like you get in most places. I will definitely be visiting The Bowd Inn again and I recommend it to one and all.

It's got some lovely areas for eating from cosy little off the main bar for two and larger places for the many, good outdoor play area nice food and a great location.

Popped in on a lunch time for the carvery and can honestly say it was one of the best carveries I’ve ever had. Everything was fresh, well cooked and seasoned and proper gravy. Will definitely return. 👏

Amazing service, all staff were friendly and helpful, we were looked after really well. Food really good but I felt it would be better if you could help yourself to stuffing, one small square was a bit tight. The veg tasted ok but it looked quite dry, especially the peas, it would’ve been nice to have some parsnips. My Vanilla cheesecake was missing vanilla but the sticky toffee pudding was unreal. Nice big car park. I would go back but I wouldn’t rush back.

Had a family meal here whilst on holiday with the family. It was great, food was excellent, good choice of beers and the service was first class, particularly making sure that the children's requirements were met. If we return to the area I will certainly return.

Nice little gem, open outdoor space. Tables are nicely spaced inside. The food was very nice, hot, fresh and plentiful. We had the roast dinners. Good price considering the quality. Plenty of parking. Highly recommended.

First visit today at The Bowd Inn, Sunday carvery. WOW one of the best we've had. Will definitely go back. Its only about 30 miles for us, but with Sidmouth only another 2 miles away, a GREAT day out. Must try week day too.

We had a carvery lunch at the Bowd Inn and it was spectacular! The food was delicious, the carvery meat was just right, lovely roast potatoes and a good selection of vegetables. The atmosphere was really nice and the staff friendly. Would definitely recommend it.

Friendly pub to drink and dine. Our mixed party of 6 was warmly welcomed for a lunch of carvery, baguettes and steak & ale pie. Despite being a Thursday mid-Xmas holiday season, the place was buzzing and busy. Every dish was delicious and well proportioned. Despite drinks and desserts, the bill was reasonably priced at ~£18 pp.
