Amazing wonderful, a perfect place to enjoy proper whisky 🥃

Great staff. Took the time to find out what whiskies we liked (a broad range to be fair) and gave us some really unusual options. Not cheap. But good whisky and knowledgeable staff shouldn't be.

Bow Bar in Edinburgh is a gem! With its charming old-fashioned atmosphere, it feels like stepping back in time. The beer and whisky selection is top-notch, offering something for everyone. A must-visit for those who love a classic pub experience!

I had a great beer, dark chocolate flavored stout. I recommend.

Walked past this bar, food advertised looked nice so walked in with my husband and daughter for lunch, at 2pm, found a table, sat down. My husband went up to the bar to order and the woman looked down and shouted at my daughter, ‘Is she over 18? She can’t eat here.’ My daughter was mortified. We got up and left. I’ve travelled to many countries with my daughter and this has never happened anywhere before. Maybe next time a Scottish adult walks into my pub in Ireland, I’ll shout at them, ‘Are you Scottish? you can’t eat here.’ See how they like it. What utterly, utterly, appalling bad manners!! Edinburgh really needs to take a long hard look at its pub scene!

The Bow Bar was our 13th stop in a tour of over 17 pubs around Edinburgh. Here we sampled 1/2 of IPA #21, and a 1/2 of IPA #8, and an Edinburgh No. 3, all very numerical.

The bar staff member who served us was pretentious, condescending and rude when we asked for whiskey recommendations. I wouldn’t recommend.

A pleasant pub with a typical local atmosphere. We tried the local beer, which we liked.

I wanted to drink whiskey. This bar was recommended to me on the Free Tour that we took as soon as we arrived in the city. So I entered. I asked which of the dozens of bottles they recommended. The friendly and courteous guy at the bar handed me a glass of a traditional Scottish variety (£5 a glass cost). I drank it and left the pub deeply satisfied.

We decided to visit here because of the great reviews talking about the friendly service and because we wanted to try whisky, something I don't normally drink. However, the bartenders were very pretentious rather than helpful and just took it as an opportunity to sell us their most expensive whisky shots probably. Gross service, there's no shame in wanting to try something new... I'd skip this next time.

I had one of the best experiences at the Bow Bar at Edinburgh. The staff were incredibly welcoming and made us great. They went above and beyond by allowing us to sample all the options of beer and ales and guiding us to choose the perfect choices based on our preferences. Their joyful and helpful attitude made the visit even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great service and a memorable experience! You must try their mulled cider with rum..

Gran lugar para parar a tomar unas copas si quieres probar algo nuevo, un montón de cervezas diferentes y whiskys para probar. Yo no bebo stout, pero incluso probé algunos aquí. Muy céntrico sin duda merece la pena una parada en su pub o exploración de Edimburgo

This is a fantastic bar with friendly staff. The prices are very affordable, and the atmosphere is wonderful. The staff encouraged us to try different craft beers and allowed us to choose our favorites. It was a great experience. I highly recommend the mulled cider with a spiced rum shot. It's definitely worth a visit—one of the best pub experiences in Edinburgh!

Woow, what great whisky and what a great atmosphere. The person running the bar knows a ton about what he sells. He carefully took care of my need of tasting a good whisky, showed me his top 6 and has let me sniff them. I loved it. Highly recommend!!!

Small traditional ale and whisky bar that's a pleasant change from many of the tourist trap pubs in the city centre and certainly an oasis of calm on the tourist madhouse that is Victoria Street. Excellent beers served by enthusiastic and knowledgable staff make visiting a real pleasure. Sells excellent pies too. Highly recommended.

Great bar and service. I was looking for a place to taste different whiskies and Bow Bar didn't disappoint. The staff was very helpful. I had no clue what I was looking for but after a short convo about flavor they were able to find me some delicious whiskies. They have £5 whiskies of the moment which are a good place to start if you have no clue. There's also a vast menu that shows where the whiskies they have in house come from but I was too overwhelmed by it. They accept card. Seating is a bit of a dance but as people come in and out you'll be able to snag a spot to hang for a drink. I would recommend bringing some cash if you'd like to tip the bartender as there isn't a choice for tip when paying for drinks. In the end I got a good recommendation for a bottle to buy for my trip home and a place to buy it from.

We went to visit Dean village, on our return, we found this place for something to drink but we ended up having a tasty cheeseboard too. Very delicious with a great atmosphere.

We came for the absolutely exceptional whiskey list at this place. We had an excellent evening, with an excellent quality tasting and a really pleasant team with good advice. Thank you very much for your welcome and your passion, which is felt in the way you serve. I recommend with your eyes closed. We are in finesse but without fuss or unnecessary frills.

Awesome selection for a whiskey drinker

On a Gents weekender ( all 50+) we did 25 pubs over 4 days, this bar came out top. It's only small, great selection of drinks, friendly locals & tourists. Bar staff 10/10

Gorgeous pub and a must visit when you’re in Edinburgh after some beers and scotch.

A pub that is rapidly becoming one of my favourites. A lovely selection of real ales at all times and an incredible selection of whiskies, with a few “malts of the moment” to select from. Best thing is no mass produced beers or cocktails, which tends to prevent that stag/hen nights and group nights out. Keeping the atmosphere much friendlier. The staff are always incredibly friendly and very informative about the ales and whiskies.

A very traditional pub where people talk and laugh, we are not saturated with loud music. Authentic decoration, very good beer especially the Stout, I haven't found better in Edinburgh and yet I've been working in pubs across the Channel for a long time. If I didn't want to offend the Scots I would say that we would think we were in Ireland...😁

Loved this small, cozy place with a perfect atmosphere to peacefully enjoy the best whiskies. The service was superb, great recommendations by the very knowledgeable staff for both beginners and experts in the field.

Popped in for a drink while exploring the city and had read good reviews. Was hoping to do a whisky flight but was informed they couldn't do that. Instead the bartender was kind and offered me a recommendation, even allowed me to nose it before pouring. Enjoyed a quick dram and headed back out as they did not have food at that time.

Wonderful pies, but go for lunch if you want to arrive before they run out. We tried four of them (chicken, pork, vegan, and spinach & goat cheese), and the vegan was my favorite—perfectly seasoned curried vegetables and chick peas. Great bar service as well, though they didn’t have cider on tap. If I lived in Edinburgh, I’d be a regular at this place.

Beautiful old pub with lots of old bar mirrors. For ale drinkers there are 8 cask ale taps! Don't worry for the philistines, there are also 6 kegs. Well-selected beers from all over the UK. Sorry Northern Ireland ;) I'll definitely come back and advertise.
