Visited with high expectations, but left disappointed. We arrived on a weekday around 5:30 PM, and the restaurant was very quiet at that time. We ordered a carafe of red wine, the haggis balls, and the beef Wellington for two. The beef Wellington had a 40-minute wait time, which we were informed of in advance. The haggis balls came as a portion of five. They were decent in taste, but nothing particularly memorable. The beef Wellington consisted of six slices (three per person). The meat was tender and juicy, but unfortunately, it wasn’t served hot—it seemed like it had been sitting for a few minutes before reaching our table. We also ordered the pasta with meatballs for our child, which we had read was free during weekdays. However, at the end of the meal, we noticed we had been charged for it. When I pointed this out, the waitress insisted it was only free during weekends. After checking, she came back and confirmed that I was right—it is indeed free on weekdays. The biggest disappointment was the service. After taking our initial order, no one checked on us or asked if we needed anything else. It felt like we were being ignored. To top it off, a 12.5% service charge had been added to the bill—optional, but certainly not earned in this case. In the end, I paid £32 less than the original bill because I had no intention of tipping for such poor service. Whether it was a lack of knowledge or an attempt to overcharge us, the staff didn’t even know (or pretended not to know) their own promotions. Overall, the experience was underwhelming and overpriced. I won’t be returning—and for anyone planning a visit to Edinburgh, I strongly advise looking elsewhere if service matters to you.

We had a lovely evening in the Bread Street Kitchen & Bar. The interior design in industrial yet still cozy and comfortable. Our waiter was attentive and very helpful. We decided to go for the Wellington experience which includes a greeting cocktail, starters, the Beef Wellington (for two), and deserts. If it was only for our main course the rating would be a clear 5 star, as the Beef Wellington was exquisite, however the rest of the food was more average, tasty, but not extraordinary, and it fades in comparison with the main course.

Best meatballs anywhere! Haggis balls were fantastic. We loved everything. Service was fantastic.

Got an experience voucher for starter main meal and dessert ment to be an experience yes it was got dirty stake knife and 7 pounds for water what a rip off the water was not even cold not good on a hot day

Ribeye steaks ordered medium, unfortunately they were completely cooked through. The food was ok, unfortunately nothing more. Of course, you go to a Gordon Ramsay restaurant with great expectations, which unfortunately were not met.

Underwhelming and overpriced food, 3 of us had the £44 each steak that came without any sauce or sides (we added sauce for £3 each sauce and sides £7 for a teacup of fries) and were disappointed, had the veggie curry and that lacked flavour as well. Really hoped for a better experience.

Without infamy and without praise. The minimum compared to what you expect to eat in a restaurant named after Gordon Ramsey. Definitely overpriced. Professional service. Always remember to add the 12.5% ​​service charge when calculating the prices on the menu.

Good cozy atmosphere but too dark. I recommend that waiters do an internship in a French restaurant: terrible communication, no monitoring of tables, crazy waiting times and no commercial gesture after waiting for more than an hour, and one of the dishes took 20 minutes longer. The quality of the dishes ranges from good to excellent (that makes up for it a little). But the service is really ridiculous. No dessert taken as a result. Ha and also tip of 12.5%.

My family and I got different dishes from here and they were all absolutely great! This I'd what I usually expect from a Ramsay Restaurant: Good food, great waiters, and a fine atmosphere. This restaurant has all of those.

Fantastic restaurant/bar, brilliant premium atmosphere and spectacular food

We stopped in for a quick bite before a comedy gig, but unfortunately, the food left a lot to be desired. Dishes sounded great on the menu with interesting descriptions, but the flavours just didn’t come through. It felt like things were thrown together without much care, and everything lacked seasoning. The haggis bon bons were a big letdown—they smelled strongly of dirty fryer oil. I mentioned it when the server cleared the plate, but they just shrugged it off. Not exactly reassuring. The fries that came out afterwards had the same overused oil smell, so we left them untouched. When the server came for a checkback, we smiled and nodded—there’s no point asking for feedback if nothing is going to be done with it. Nothing we ate really stood out. When a place has the name of one of your idols above the door, you expect something memorable. The bon bons could have been great if they'd been executed properly. The mac and cheese needed way more cheese and seasoning—it just tasted like a basic bechamel sauce. There was cheese in it, but not enough. The garlic crumb? Either missing or barely there. You want mac and cheese to be rich, gooey, cheesy, and indulgent, with that irresistible grilled top. Ideally, you'd be reaching for bread to mop up the sauce—not wondering where the flavour went. We also noticed the three tables around us all asking for salt and pepper, which says a lot. We ordered a bottle of white wine, but it wasn’t properly chilled. In the end, we went next door for dessert and coffee.

Been here twice. Amazing food, service and lovely atmosphere. The fish & chips are top tier, and the food is actually a surprisingly fair price for Edinburgh! My only issue is that they don't inform you before charging you water for the table; I instinctively said sure and then upon checking the bill is was £8 for 2 small glasses of water 😓 Other than that, great place to eat highly recommend x

Exceptional food and excellent service

Decidedly expensive mediocre experience. First of all 750ml bottles of water for 7.50 each! Even for a city that’s steep. We had our glasses filled the minute we sat and every time they were empty they were refilled, with new bottles without asking, for a table of 9 this wracked up nearly £50 in water! I think that’s a nice way of boosting the cost of the table! The table next to ours had water pouring from the ceiling next to lighting, initially they put a single bottle wine cooler out to catch it which just spraying the water everywhere, until some grabbed a larger vessel! And finally the food, being vegetarian we had the chickpea and squash vegetable curry, which was bland and flavourless, I had a side salad with no dressing?!? The plate the bowls were on was pub grubby with that residue you get from a dishwasher that needs a clean! I also had the honeybee mocktail, which was watery and uninspiring. Sorry Ramsay but for all your perfectionism, shouting and carrying on, it’s good to know your chain is no better, and actually a little worse, than all the rest… felt ripped off!

Visiting from ireland and we booked a table here online they hadn't a clue what I was talking about rude lady in suit we got a table lucky it wasn't too busy. Ordered the steak my partner said was amazing I ordered the lamb idiot sandwich can't fault a thing with what we had the cocktails were nice has well can't wait to come back

Not great, service started well, unfortunately deteriorated, food very average and massively overpriced. All the restaurants nearby were full and booked up... Makes you wonder, we could easily get a table at Bread. Name is keeping this attractive.

My wife and I were there on Sunday, after having received a voucher for Christmas. All the staff that we met were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were big. It was the first time that we have been but certainly won't be the last, would definitely recommend going.

Fabulous! Every dish we tried was better than the last! And the cocktails were wonderful, too.

Finally got to try Ramsay’s famous beef wellies and they surely lived up to the hype. I thoroughly enjoyed the mashed potatoes, it’s the best I’ve had. Good wine selection too. My husband and I had a lovely time.

I had a great meal at Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen. The food was tasty, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed. Overall, a solid place to enjoy a good meal!

We used the itison. The wings and cod bites were delicious. The minute steak and peppercorn sauce was very average. I had a delicious mocktail berry blast. The service was good.

I had a complete explanation of my grading, but it appears this review is being blocked?? Service was so bad I returned to the restaurant the following day to speak with the general manager, who was exceptional in his customer care. He took all my details and I felt I'd been heard. £200+ for a meal for two, but that's fine it was our 25th anniversary, and I booked 7 months ahead , I've edited this review a number of times .... I honestly don't know what TnC's I've breached 😭. All i asked for was sparkling water with my meal..... and J said NO you will have tap water.""" I've stayed in Scotland now for 11 years. Yes, I have a foreign accent, but I moved my family and businesses to this country, and Scotland is amazing , I drink 2 to 3 litres of Scottish tap water each day.....I just take sparkling water with my meals.🙅‍♂️. The food was top notch, the service was pants. I've pics, but as I'm blocked, I've also removed them.

Food was amazing, especially the cocktail. Set menu was great value of money. The service was, however, great at first, but it got worst as the meal progressed and staff changed. A more senior staff with suit was not very friendly, but the bartender was very kind even though it may not be his job to serve my table.

We went to Bread Street Kitchen & Bar to celebrate our 2 year's anniversary and we had an amazing experience. Ollie was absolutely amazing, his calm and attentiveness lifted the whole experience. It was definitely a fun evening, and the food was mouth watering.

We just came in for the beef wellington experience for our honeymoon and the entire experience from start to finish was amazing. Food was incredible, ollie our waiter was hilarious and so accommodating. We will be back thank you all

So what do you expect from the master of tv chefs...simple menu, served quickly, done well. The fish batter on the fish and chips was just so nice and light yet crispy, adorning a very tasty piece of fish. The chips accompanying the fish were perfection of chunky chips, served with some salt . The butter chicken was nice, but in my opinion, I've had nicer and in more basic restaurants. But our server, Jason, was the epitome of what a great server should be...knowledgeable and witty, having a raport and some joviality with us and other diners. But here's my disappointment...I expected the loos to be nice, and I was sorry to see them not particularly clean, and in a poor condition. I remember being told to always judge an establishment by its toilets...and I'll score them a 3* for that reason.

We where encouraged to go for set menu to be fair sounded good here we go ! Starter chicken wings hot on the outside luke warm in the centre my wife had fish bites, stodgy batter hardly taste the fish ! Mains were steak strips ok, wife had fish ok ! Asked for side of macaroni was told it was burning hot 🔥 just a pity the inside was 🥶 to be fair was not charged for it but would rather not hear them saying this has not ever happened before rather they concentrate making sure food is served with attention being paid ! Yea Gordon if you get a chance pop in undercover 🥸 see what's going on standards slipping shame but not good enough !!! Folks work hard for their money, this was NOT value today.. ruined an otherwise rare day off with my wife.

Service was excellent, I think Jason was our servers name and he made us feel very at home. Food was lovely. We got the Wellington and burrata to start. Wasn't anything mind blowing but we enjoyed it. Desserts were lovely too, nothing out of this world, the salted caramel icecream should be showcased more as it was the highlight of the chocolate fondant dish

Good quality but small portions and no special tastes. The staff was very kind.

Very disappointing. Phoned in advance as on a fat free diet & told I could be accommodated no problem. This wasn't the case & waiter wasn't clued up atall with menu. We were a party of 6. I had Sea bream in the end & it was minute with a few bits of broccoli. I asked for boiled potato but they couldn't provide that. Offered chips or creamy mash neither I could have. Another in the party ordered a quinoa salad that again was absolutely minute & asked if this was a mistake & was a side salad instead of a main course. We arrived at 5pm & we're going to theatre at 7.30pm & weren't able to have time for a sweet as the service was so slow. When the bill came we were charged £20 extra for a bottle of red wine. It turned out we were given a dearer wine than we ordered. Admittedly they took the £20 off the bill. Sharp practice, were they hoping we wouldn't notice. Myself & the person having the salad left really hungry. All round a very bad & disappointing experience. Avoid this place. Plays on name but it's just a rip off.

I recommend this restaurant. I was there with friends for dinner. The food was very good, and the service was even better. Agata guided us through the menu and was able to advise us very precisely, helping us make the right choices. The evening was a success, and our bellies were full.

I had the great pleasure of having dinner with my family at Bread Street Kitchen. Agata took care of us the whole evening and was very helpful in choosing dishes. The food and drinks, along with the atmosphere, were of a high standard. I will definitely go back.

I had received a trip to the Bread Street Kitchen as a gift and we finally had the opportunity to take advantage of the deal. Myself, I enjoyed my starter of Wings and my wife tried the cod bites, which she also enjoyed (I did have a bite and the tartare sauce was really nice). We had invited our daughter and this is where it fell apart, not because of her, well maybe.🤣 Her Macaroni was a bit sloppy and tasteless. She enjoyed the fries as they were referred to as "banging". When the mains arrived they were both visually impressive. My steak was cooked perfectly, and the chips were tasty but then I also tried my wife's chickpea curry. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't as good as the steak (fair enough) but the rice was crunchy, the best way to describe it. Finally we hit the dessert, it stepped up the game again. Service was amazing, the staff were attentative and friendly which makes it hard to write something with a negative view when they were such a positive aspect.

We were there for my son's birthday! Just 3 of us! The staff were incredibly nice and professional, thanks to Ollie. My son ordered the steak, and it was fabulous . My husband ordered chicken. Cury also was great.. I decided to get Ramsey signature dish, which it was fish and chips , unfortunately, it was so oily ! If Ramsey was there, he definitely cursed them all 😉! But I didn't say anything because Ramsey is my son's hero, and he loves him madly 🤪. I didn't want to ruin my son time. The bill was about £200! The tax and tip included which was pricey for me.🫠 By the way, the staff made a great gesture and brought a special Happy birthday treat.

Went here on my girlfriend's birthday. The beef Wellington was nicely cooked, one of the best beef I've ever had. Had a great time. You can't get bad food in a Gordon Ramsay's restaurant.

Ordered an idiot burger, chips and onion rings, the burger was dry as hell I couldn't even chew it and ended throwing it up into the bin, chips were terrible and the onion rings were dripping oil. Disgusting. I will never again order from this restaurant. In burger king they cook better burgers and is much cheaper.

We visited Gordon Ramsey in St Andrew Square Edinburgh ,the food was fantastic and the staff so helpful especially Ollie

Gordon for the masses. Bread Street Kitchen is a busy local hangout on St Andrews Square in the New Town area of Edinburgh. With Ramsey's name above the door, you know it's going to be good quality and as restaurants go ..this one is a good choice. It's a huge warehouse style eatery with wall to ceiling windows and exposed duct work and industrial. The service is pacey and well organised. The menu is decent and for a nice dinner you'll be paying about £70 a head for (unless you opt for dry aged steaks). Portions are ok. On this lunchtime visit, I enjoyed the Butter Chicken Curry 🍛 and Saffron Rice 🍚, followed by a Black Forrest Cheesecake. I added a glass of coke and it came to £45.00 Waiting staff checked back regularly and although it was quiet on this visit, it can be very so book ahead. There is also a set menu which offers great value if you're easily pleased in choice.

My roasted cod and sticky toffee pudding were amazing, but burger was just good, not great. Service the same - good, not great. 'Optional' service charge added to the bill, but then without confirmation amount is just punched on card machine. I always leave the tip (i work in the same industry) but this trick made me leaving without, pity

Ollie was our server, we came for my birthday celebration and did the beef wellington experience. That food is enough for 3/4 people!! We had to be rolled out of the restaurant, I’ve never been so full! They changed some starter and dessert for me due to a dairy intolerance, knowing the pastry of the wellington had dairy, I wanted to limit everything else so I could indulge on that! We had an amazing time, our server Ollie made the experience and provided some humour when we mentioned the amount of food!! 10/10 , we are already planning our return. If you do the experience, you get all three starters and desserts, we thought you got to choose one out of the three so we’re very suprised! And very full!

A bit disappeointed, expected more for this name and prices. We tried burgers in GR place nearby and it was really tasty, so decided to have burger here as well. My husband went for fish and chips and it was just fine, but my burger was real disappointment. Meat was overcooked, overall burger really really dry and kind of flavourless. It is really not worth 27£ (I added bacon for extra 3 or 4£)... I didn't share this with staff as they were not really chatty or kind of interested at the end of service (at the beginning the waiter help sith recommendation of wine and food) The whole atmosphere was just okay.

We visited Gordon Ramsay's Breadstreet restaurant in Edinburgh on a Sunday afternoon, and were seated straight away without a booking. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, bringing water and taking drinks orders after just a few minutes. We ordered the fish & chips, and the Chickpea curry. The wait for our food was brief, and it looked every bit as good as it tasted. The batter on my fish was light and crunchy, and the fish was flaky and delicious. The chips were equally tasty, chunky and crispy. I don't normally like mushy peas but I gave them a go and was pleasantly surprised. I'm still not a convert, but I ate my veg 😁 worthy of special mention was the tartare sauce, which was sharp as it should be, and deep in flavour. My fish & chips were a very reasonable £23, and the Chickpea curry was similarly priced. All in all it was a very enjoyable meal, in a very welcoming environment, not at all pretentious. If you've got children, you'll be delighted to know that kids eat free. Highly recommended.

Firstly, I would have thought Gordon would not have "Ben" the "robot" answering the phone..extremely frustrating! Food very dissapointin! Starter, "cod bites" tasteless, too large for a starter! Very tough and cold grilled flat iron steak, for main. chips were good, however, the wilted salad? Not certain about the cold dressing on the steak? uncooked and bitter tasting brownie, watery ice cream, tasteless veloute..which my guest had definately not a cauliflower veloute? Not as I have tasted in other michellin stared restaurants in Edinburgh..then we have the three different charges at the end of the meal? What's going on Gordon..? Bitterly dissapointed in my gift of a 3 course meal for 2...

My pasta dish was very heavy and I regret picking it. I'm staying away from cheese for a good while. The lighting is not great in the restaurant I had to squint to read the menu. Overall I think the food could definitely improve. It's overrated

Food good. Service terrible. It’s a shame nowadays that service is really the difference maker in most restaurants. When going to an establishment like Gordon Ramsay’s, however, you’d expect all the staff to be really well trained in service. I’m not sure if it’s because of things like not being able to hire enough experienced staff for larger establishments shifts anymore, or ever since a service charge has just been added onto the end of bills making service staff generally lazier and less attentive, but it seems across the board service has been appealing at mid-priced restaurants, leaving a sour taste in our mouths. It’s not that anyone was specifically rude or unwelcoming (they definitely weren’t the warmest), however small things that make meals far less enjoyable really make a difference. I ate half of my main meal whilst waiting for a drink that I’d ordered. I tried to follow it up, but I couldn’t get the attention of ANY serving staff no matter how hard I tried. This is DESPITE me noticing my drink waiting for me at the bar, and even watching a bartender tell a member of waiting staff to bring it over. She shrugged, and continued to clean and lay fresh tables next to me - which is odd because it didn’t seem particularly busy so not sure why the rush to turn tables as opposed to servicing customers existed. Eventually, I got up, and walked to the bar and grabbed my own drink. It didn’t stop there, they continued to be inattentive throughout the evening, and when we’d finally had enough and needed to pay, it took us a good 25 minutes to get the attention of someone who would finally get the bill. Despite all this, it still came with a ‘optional gratuity’. Fortunately, my girlfriend was having none of it, and ask them to remove it. The staff did not even care to ask why.

I would like to say my burger and chips weren't up to much. To say they were expensive I expected my chips not to look like they had been fried in old fat and my burger was cold. My husbands fish and chips were full of grease. Wouldn't recommend the food at all.

Incredible experience. Steak was lovely and tasty. The only reason I gave 4 stars is due to the fact that steak were very expensive and it comes with literally nothing on the plate but the steak. No veges or anything and you have to pay extra for the sauce which to me was ridiculous enough as surely you would expect to have sauce when you order steak anyway? Id recommend but just be prepared for the bill 😅

The waiter was very good, but the kitchen failed to deliver 3 of the 5 dishes we ordered. The bill was adjusted being fair, but what we did get was tasty. We may have chosen a particularly quiet evening, but it was a little soulless.

Food is mixed. Some things are good (cod bites, burger) while others are disappointing (medium steak was served very rare and cool, cauli was bland). Service is very slow even when it's not busy. Pretty looking place but just so many basic errors. Factor in the hefty price and I can't really recommend it.

Food should never be served cold at anytime, never mind on a Friday afternoon, especially when the place was empty and there's 4 cooks.. Really poor. Drinks were good and the 20 pound meal deal was good. When looking at the bill there was extras added on, which we had deleted. Need to improve big time to return!! 😕 😕 Staff OK but could do with more interaction!!

If I go to Gordon Ramsay's restaurant I expect Gordon Ramsay's fillet Wellington recipe, this one lacked raw ham. I ask the waiter for an explanation who tells me that it is a century-old recipe and that raw meat doesn't work. I ask the Italian waiter for an explanation who tells me that they don't put it there and that perhaps Ramsay has made a recipe with raw meat for the Italian people. What!? Then he says that maybe it's because they don't put pork in many of their dishes due to the fact that they often have halal customers. Okay, I expect that if I pay 120 pounds for a piece of meat that barely weighs 250 grams to be given an explanation for the fact that the recipe does not reflect that of the chef who proposes it. Or at least I expect it to be known that the fillet Wellington proposed by Gordon Ramsay in every one of his videos has raw ham as an ingredient. The pasta around the fillet was moist and therefore mushy, and when it was transported from the serving dish it fell apart. But the worst thing was the raw pasta on the sides. As an Italian cook I was taught that everything put on the plate must be edible. The fact that the waiter tells me that the ends of the wrapper should not be eaten because they are raw leaves me somewhat perplexed. I don't expect something like this from any restaurant, let alone from a restaurant owned by a multi-starred chef. I honestly don't know if this is the right recipe for fillet Wellington, I don't think so, but 120 euros to have raw pasta on your plate is a steal. The "Ramsay selection" wine is terrible and screw capped. Obviously, the cost should have made me think that it wouldn't be the best, but I believed that the 32 pounds were due to the fact that, being one of his wines, he had and wanted to maintain lower costs. £24 for the service, but you can also have them removed if you want. Honestly, I would ask the customer how much he wants to leave, don't write that if you don't want them you can tell the waiter to take them away. In pubs they make you select the percentage you want to leave, here you should tell the waiter to remove his tip. But really? After paying we waited 2 minutes, standing at the door looking for someone to say hello. Nobody in the dining room, nobody at the bar, nobody in the kitchen. And thank goodness that after paying (you pay at the table via QR code) you want to write to say hello before going. Very bad experience. With the same money you can eat in some Michelin-starred restaurants in Italy and leave satisfied, not in a restaurant bar with exorbitant prices just because it bears the name of a chef, whose recipe for his most iconic dish you don't even follow.
