The Botanist on The Green in Richmond upon Thames

Another wonderful experience!! This pub never disappoints. My partner and I love to explore different spots but when we are out and about in London, I always want to go back to this spot. Service was a little bit dilated but the staff kept us updated all the way through and even offered a complimentary coffee while we waited! It was well worth the wait too! So look forward to next visit!! As a side note, the manager was ever so friendly and polite!

I booked a Christmas buffet for 25 people, with space for others to join us for drinks. The managers, first Lock and then Sean, were extremely amenable from the start, especially Sean, when he took over, making time on busy days to discuss, inform and amend my booking with last-minute changes. On the day, his colleagues, in his absence, also did a brilliant job, welcoming us and discussing seating and food placement and precise timings and they worked with us throughout the evening to ensure that all was going well and that everyone was happy. They were cheerful and accommodating and could not have done more. The food itself was delicious, nicely presented and served at a time and pace which suited us. Many members of our party commented to me how much they had enjoyed the food, the service and the evening itself. Thank you to all staff, from front of house to kitchen, who worked hard to make it a great success.

We have been customers for 10+ years. We always have a Sunday roast before Kew. This year we had the worst food I’ve ever experienced. Service was slow, lacklustre and generally poor . Slow clearing plates etc They are busy so ok it’s not ideal but the food was horrific Kids burger was suitable for a 3yr old not a 9yr old Tomato salad on the chicken was 2 small cherry tomatoes Roast beef was cold x2 Roast potatoes looked and tasted like new potatoes - under done Manager gave us money off but the experience was over by that point Would I return no - would I recommend no

What a lovely place The Botanist is. It's probably the best place to eat and drink on Kew Green. So much better than the awful pub it sits opposite - The Coach and Horses, which is dire. The Botanist is so much nicer and comes highly recommended. The food is excellent, and it is very cozy and atmospheric. It also has a really good range of beers these days. Highly recommended.

Decided to eat here after visiting Kew Gardens and glad we did, to celebrate our anniversary. Very warm welcome and great service from Lock, drinks reasonably priced and the food we chose was excellent, particularly the brisket and mushroom pie, all well cooked and presented, finished off with the crumble. Went for an early dinner after visiting Kew Gardens. The staff were very welcoming and sorted out drinks as we were half an hour early. We chose the perfect spot for dinner and had excellent service all evening. Good selection of dishes to suit each palate. The dishes were all delicious. One friend has a garlic intolerance and the chef went the extra mile to prepare a dish from scratch avoiding the garlic ingredient. Lock, our waiter was charming, funny and up-beat all evening even though he was clearly very busy. Definitely recommend The Botanist for the excellent service, food, wine and ambience. A real neighbourhood gem.

Just gotten back from a delicious Sunday roast. Had the "sharing roast" between two which was a struggle to finish given how generous it was, but I made sure we did finish it because it was delicious! Followed up by some fantastic deserts! Think best sticky toffee pud I've had in London Staff were lovely and friendly as well.

We stopped in after a long day out and found the had a great selection of alcohol free and low alcohol beers. Ordered a couple of side dishes that were freshly prepared and delicious. The staff were super welcoming and friendly and checked in with us throughout our visit that everything was satisfactory. The food prepared for other diners looked and smelled great. Would highly recommended. Also appeared dog friendly.

Had a really great lunch here of vegan burger and the seabass special. Lock really looked after us and kept us laughing. Look forward to coming back!

We came here for lunch before visiting Kew Gardens. It was really quiet which surprised me as it is a good looking pub in a good location. We got a nice round table by the window which was perfect for us. Sean made us very welcome and looked after us well. We all ordered something different and we were all very happy with our food. Food was cold, fish and chips terrible, batter awful even the peas! Boyfriend had beef roast dinner - everything cold roast potatoes not even roasted! Really poor quality that we wouldn’t expect in this area. Very disappointing.

Disappointing experience. Lovely looking place so we booked a big table for a celebration meal on a weekday when family visited from overseas. Many menu items were unavailable. Despite the pub not being busy, service was slow and the staff seemed inexperienced or uninterested. There was a big wait between the first person being served and the last, some sides arrived way after the food. Our group was crammed into a side area too small for the number of chairs so it was difficult to get in and out, by an unused door with a draught round it. Best thing about the place was the decor in the loo!

The Botanist on the Green, Kew Green, was our choice for lunch after a fantastic morning strolling around Kew Gardens. Located near the tube station it was an ideal spot to rest our weary legs before heading back home. The pub is a nice mix of old and new, photos on the wall potted plants around the dining room and plenty of casual seating. The venue is known for its quality food and craft beers. From the extensive menu our party of four ordered three Smoked Bacon burgers and the pie, a creamy chicken and smoked ham hock and leek pie. For drinks the Camden Brewery beer (£6.80) and a 250ml Pino Grigio (£10.20), were the go. Our mains averaged £16.00 each. The service was friendly, the meals well-presented and tasty. Well worth a visit after a stroll in the Kew Gardens.

What a lovely spot for some evening refreshments after a fruitful day walking around the exceptional kew botanic gardens. They keep a fantastic pint of ghostship and the celeriac is vegan heaven.

Konrad, Craig, and Hermoine were all absolutely fantastic in both their friendly and professional service. I had just been for a long walk around Kew Gardens in the hot sun and needed somewhere to relax and recharge - The Botanist was just the ticket, the scallops, fish & chips, and choc brownie with a mocha all went down a storm and I left a really happy customer, thank you very much!

I don’t know why this pub has such a low rating… the food was great. We came here yesterday after a long day at Kew Gardens and this was the closest place but with ‘ok’ ratings, and we were reluctant to walk any further. My child’s sausage and mash was from the children’s menu and it was far from the average children’s food that we so often see and get. It looked and tasted like a proper butchers sausage, creamy mash and a choice of veggies, she had tender stem broccoli. I had the best pie and mash with the best gravy. And my partner had a really good burger, big juicy and meaty. Service was great, staff really friendly. And it’s got a really cool ambiance inside. Highly recommend x

Beautiful Sunday roast after a brisk walk in Kew Gardens. I was cold and hungry and nothing else would do. A lovely glass of Merlot was the perfect accompaniment to this beautiful aged sirloin beef. The Yorkshire pudding was crisp and moist, easily the best I have ever eaten. Then I had an apple and rhubarb crumble with Bourbon Vanilla ice cream. This meal made my day.

Enjoyed a lovely evening here with family. Loads of choices for gin lovers. Highly recommend the whitley neill raspberry gin. Amazing food and outstanding service by all staff! Made our visit feel like normal even with all new guidelines.

One of the very worst pub meals we’ve ever had. We do appreciate the issues created by social distancing regulations, but have been to several far busier pubs and restaurants that are handling it admirably. The Botanist was chaotic to the point of neglectful, offering painfully slow service, food delivered to the table incorrectly nearly causing my vegetarian partner to bite into a beef burger, and apart from some very good calamari the food was near inedible. Staff seemed at their wits end with stress, and the atmosphere was terrible. £50 including an auto-added service charge that we would have asked to be removed but that we wanted to get out of there sharpish. Avoid at all costs.

If I could give zero points, I would. This pub is on the site of a lovely old restaurant on the spectacular beautiful Kew Green, adjacent to wonderful Kew Gardens. That is the end of the good news. It is a soulless barn, staffed by people with a permanent scowl. And the prices - even for London, quite extortionate. Only go here is you have very deep pockets. Don't go there even if you have an expense account - your boss with thank you for avoiding it. We paid £13.95 for one pint of beer and a half of cider. Of course, there os not price list on display.

Came in on Tuesday afternoon for a quick pint. Staff were friendly and chatty, pub looked tidy and clean. Good wine and spirit selection but decided to have a Guinness which poured well. Lovely spot, definitely recommend this pub.

We had booked a table but no need. It’s huge & the only others there were 2 families with very young children sitting right next to us. Not ideal for us old grumps who don’t like having to listen to tantrums. Response when I asked for a different table “what if I moved you & another family turned up & sat next to you?” We didn’t move & no one else turned up. Not surprised as the food was grim.

We had prebooked here as a party of 33 prior to visiting the lights at Kew Gardens. the food and service were terrible. The sandwiches were made of dried bread and with very little filling. We were each given a cup for tea with no saucers or teaspoons and a cardboard box of teabags was handed round for us to pick one out before a waitress came round with a jug of warm waterto fill the cups. We had to fish the teabags out of the cups using a fork. I had apple pie for dessert which did taste quite nice but the service was so slow that we had to eat it very quickly to rush out for our timed entry to Kew. I asked if they were short staffed but they denied this.

Part of a group - everything ordered in advance. The service was almost total chaos as follows:Tumblers appeared after 10 mins, followed by tap water.Sandwiches appeared after 30 mins – little filling eg the chicken and bacon consisted of tiny bits of meat in mayonnaise, no garnish etc.After 45+ mins we were given tea cups In the absence of staff, members of our party cleared away our plates . A box of teabags appeared.Hot water was poured from a canister, but it ran out.Well over an hour and 20 minutes after we’d arrived, the desserts started to appear. (not the sticky toffee pudding because, despite pre-ordering, they’d run out). The apple pie was quite good but the brownie wasn’t (solid and dry, even with ice cream). After our group leader had said “I don’t think so” in response to the bill and negotiated, we each got £7 refund but with no explanation or apology at any point. Unbelievably bad all round.

We lunched here on Saturday afternoon and enjoyed the nachos, the lamb koftas and chicken.The London Pride, the wines and the coffees were fine. The service could be a lot better.

No greeting by staff when we walked in, so we weren’t sure where to sit. But found a table, ordered roast- which we sent back TWICE - as it was barely warm. Not impressed.

Pub looks a bit tired from the outside but inside the atmosphere is fine. Ordered a half lager and lime but they had to use a full pint glass and pour into another glass. Ordered a Pepsi but none on draft. Changed to a bottle of Coke but none in stock so had to have a pink lemonade. Starters were fine. main course of burger was okay. Main course of chicken roast was cold on first delivery and inedible on second delivery. They quickly took it off the bill but didn't ask what was wrong with it. Staff were polite and friendly but clearly a little stressed on a busy Sunday lunchtime.

Food arrived for all three of us cold, least my fish was marginally warm and I ate it anyway (too hungry at this point) - however two cold roasts were sent back. Then they came back cold again. How can you not even sort that out? The place is dead empty, your prices are stupid high (London I get it but still) for food that's cold? And even a second time you get it wrong.

Booked dinner for 6.30 as we had tickets for the Chihuly at night exhibition at Kew. Took over an hour for our starters to arrive despite constant chasing and being told it was on its way. The staff didn't communicate with us at all or explain there were problems with staff shortages until we made a strong complaint and then it all seemed to be one excuse after another.

Attended a graduation party here on 06/09/19. Staff were very friendly and even though the pub was full, the bar service was very quick. Hot food was supplied for the party and was ample and delicious. All in all, a great atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent service and I highly recommend a visit.

Lunch. On arrival no welcome, no service at the bar, totally ignored, had to find someone. Unfriendly, told them we wanted to eat, given a menu, not shown to a table, had to ask someone to take order, they didn't come, we went to the bar and then asked again. One of us vegan, chose meat free burger. Long wait for food, on arrival very poor quality. Chicken burger had a curry sauce poured over which tasted horrible and made the meal inedible; it was disgusting. Vegan burger was such poor quality, burnt. Again inedible, not fresh, obviously straight from the freezer. Waitress took our food away without comment or apology. We decided to leave, spoke to another member of staff and explained the situation and offered to pay for the chips, which were not great but we were hungry! To his credit he did not charge us, or quibble which lead us to suspect this may have happened before. A very disappointing experience on a day which was meant to be a treat.

We held a birthday party here. Scott and his team could not have been more helpful. They helped to make it a perfect evening.

Stopped here for an evening meal after a visit to Kew Gardens and nothing went well. We arrived and a large notice at the entrance to the restaurant said wait for staff to seat you. Nobody came. In the end had to speak to the barmaid who said find your table and order at the bar. We did this and then went back to the bar and stood for ten minutes at the bar before anybody took the food order. Went back to table. No food - after a long interval, stopped the barmaid and asked how long would it be? Answer “Haven’t you had it yet?” Waitress then came within 2 minutes with cutlery and condiments. Followed a minute later by the food. We wondered - where had it been? Both had Fish and Chips. Batter was soft not crispy, and had too much salt.

I arranged to have a wedding after party for about 50 people at the Botanist after my wedding at Kew. The botanist confirmed that I did not need to do anything further and that they had a late licence in place for the event, however, when we turned up on the night, my guests were turned away even though people were still in the pub and they had a late licence in place. What a horrible and disappointing ending to the wedding night it was. I’ve had to mark the experience as 1 star but technically was never granted access to even supply an opinion.

Stopped off for a few drinks on a lovely summer afternoon. Overlooking Kew Green, The Botanist presents really well and has a wide selection of speciality Gins on offer. Drinks were cold and service was OK.

Enjoyable place to visit with a wide selection of beers to choose from, great food delivered from staff with a cheery smile. Well worth a visit.

Celebrating a friend’s birthday before heading off to Music at Kew. Most of us chose the roast and there as a choice of meats. All came with lots of veggies. Delicious desserts too. A lovely start to our day at Music at Kew.

This is our go-to pub in the neighbourhood - excellent food, friendly service, and so many fabulous gin choices. I also hosted an event here for about 40 people, and the manager Scott and his staff could not have been more helpful! Everyone raved about the food, and Scott helped us configure a menu and drinks package that worked for our budget but still made the evening feel special. Love, LOVE The Botanist!
