Barmy Arms in Richmond upon Thames

had a meal at the barmy last week and really impressed. plants, ambiance, guiness, etc. went back sunday for dinner. untrained staff, 45 minute wait for food, 15 minute wait at the bar yet no one was queuing? manager in garden chatting to mates. Food was good when finally arrived. shame. white swan next time

Arrived late evening 23rd October and the Barmy Arms looked magnificent. Was warmly greeted by Karim, so friendly. This is the best looking and most atmospheric Pub in Twickenham by a mile, the staff are great.

Need urgently to work on the training of their manager as he extremely is rude enough to not check if the order is coming or not after 45 min and only reply to you that the chef has a queue, clearly not interested in delivering a good service, not the standard of other Greene King pubs. The young staff is much more polite and helpful than him.

I went to The Barmy Arms today for Lunch with my friends family. I would like to say a big Thank you to Karim the Manager for making us so welcome and giving special attention to my friends 91 year old Dad. We had a lovely afternoon. I have been to this pub a few times and really love it, there is always such a friendly atmosphere and Karim and the other staff are always very welcoming and look after you. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

Tried ordering food at 8pm on a Friday…they barely had anything left and was an hour wait… In regards to your response, you ran out of all fish dishes, including the crab burger (that you didn’t take off the specials board once it was sold out).

Nice old pub with indoor and outdoor seating. A nice mix of beers on tap, not just the usual line up. We were not able to order food as gas/kitchen was out of service. Friendly bartender and a nice location overlooking the river. Not much parking.

What a fabulous transformation this pub has had . I have been visiting this pub for decades and have never seen it so vibrant and welcoming . I Have visited a few times this summer and am so impressed with the food, beautiful riverside location , stunning garden area and warm welcome , however this Sunday the Barmy Arms hosted a live music tribute act event and it was truly magnificent . The line up of acts , Elton , Whitney , Robbie , Tina and Abba rocked the house with people dancing and singing their hearts out .. even the friendly bar staff were dancing , the atmosphere was incredible , snd the stunning river Thames was the back drop . I cannot recommend this pub enough it really is a gem and exactly what Twickenham riverside needed. If you’ve never been , go, you won’t regret it , if you’ve been in the past but not recently , go, you won’t believe the transformation. Huge congratulations to the new manager who has worked wonders . Can’t wait to attend all future events .

The pub is lovely and well situated by the river with plenty of outside seating. This was the second time had been and it was Saturday 20 July date of visit. But we didnt have the best time with the food. We waited a long time for food that we were told was coming that never arrived, despite asking 2 members of staff, descriptions of food didnt ring true, condiments asked for never came or came at the dessert stage and who needs mayo with pear and almond tart? No caffeinated coffee nor non dairy milks were available. The staff appeared to be trying their best but lacked impetus on delivering their best service. Margharitas were nice but served in wrong glasses with ice. On the plus side the steak sandwich was really nice and so was the dessert.

Karim was the host and was lovely and a great atmosphere, would 100% recommend

The new management are doing a great job making this a destination pub in Twickenham. The seating outside looks lovely. Nice to see this amazing venue on the riverside working to it's full potential. Also a supporter of live music.

Pleasent enough place. Beers overpriced as are all the pubs in the area. Awful piped pop music in the outdoor area. Which is a shame, considering the blues has a historic influence on British music situated 50 yards away on Eel pie island.

Not sure if a one - off but we waited 50mins for food and it was clear ( as nuclear hot, I burnt my hand) that it had been left under a heat lamp. Seems odd as appears well staffed by friendly competent staff. Complained to the manager who was apologetic but didn’t say or do much to suggest he cared. I rarely avoid pubs esp in such nice locations but will never go here again.

Telling customers to go Hounslow if they find the prices too high is not really ricmonder thing, is it?

It was packed ,great atmosphere! Fabulous live bands .Had a fantastic time xxxx Haven’t eaten there yet so can’t put a star but I’m sure the food will be great too .xxx

We were at the Balmy Arms for the High Tide festival, which all-in-all was excellent and the sun came out this year. The bands were very good and played all afternoon. However, the prices in the Balmy Arms are extortionate. £8.90 for a pint of lager shandy, and my friend paid £9.80 for two half pints of Coke! Later on, when I got charged £4.90 for a Coke, I queried the price and it was supposed to be £2.65, so my friend had been totally overcharged. All these extortionate prices were paid having queued for at least ten minutes every time to buy drinks on a very hot, sunny day, even though there were two bars. It's a busy festival - hire more staff for the day! The two women's loos on the ground floor were absolutely atrocious. One was blocked all afternoon and all the flooring was saturated with dirty water. Using the hand dryer rendered hot air blowing in an already overheated small room, so we had to queue while someone held the entrance door open to let cooler air in. Later on the women's toilet entrance door had an 'out of order' sign. Why hadn't an attendant been hired to look after the loos on one of the busiest days of the year?

Firstly accused of changing tables and we hadn't moved meals came up separately without pats on menu .food poorly cooked never eat here again

I love this pub and I love the food too but...5 drinks for £50 That's a little ridiculous. A massive price hike during the High Tide music festival. Very disappointed. Do better for your locals next time

£8.40 for a pint, absolutely outrageous and taking the absolute p1ss on local residents who support this pub year round. Greene king, yoir greed is palpable and local residents will not stand for it. We look forward to bringing our own wine, beer, food but using your toilets! Treating you the same way you treat your local residents!

The staff were really rude. Ruined the vibe completely in what could’ve been a really great atmosphere. Didn’t get the chance to try the food as the wait time was going to be an hour! Stayed for a drink and left.

Very lively Thames-side pub with large outdoor seating area segregated into smokers and non. Lots of people eating and seemingly enjoying their food. Good range of beers.

Terrific front of house man.. it's worth going just for him!! Great service, he's so welcoming and friendly, makes sure you're comfortable, nothing is too much trouble. Food is great, lots of classic sensational fare. Terrific prices, superb location. One of my fav places, looking over Eel Island and the river. Love it.

Manager is top guy as soon as I walked into garden he commented on my height ( I'm 6"8 btw) but started chatting like we were mates. Very nice atmosphere,amazing food too and right by the river too.

Attend Barmy Arms frequently on summer days and evenings. It has become our local as the team, in particular Karim, is attentive to all and has a great character with all the customers.

Kareem is a great team leader and served us with great care and a lot of passion which showed us that his customer service was on point. We had a great time at the pub and the atmosphere was on point.

A lovely place to come by the river with the family. The staff were amazing particularly Karim who provided speedy and polite service. Made all of us feel welcome and started off our afternoon with laughter and a good pint.

I’ve never had such a beautiful experience in my entire life before this. Unfortunately I missed the birth of my first child, but I simply couldn’t turn down the offer of going to The Barmy Arms! Just come to barmy arms for the first time. The staff was very polite and helpful! Your member of staff Karim went above and beyond. I will defiantly be coming back again.

Our friend, who arrived early, had a poor tasting pint of the advertised Neck Oil. Which he had to order three times as the bar staff were distracted because they were ogling a group of females. I arrived with my 10 year old daughter at 18.45 and had barely entered the garden area before being told that children would have to leave the premises by 19.00. I was then charged over £11 for a pint and small glass of coke. And at 18.57 I was being harassed by the staff to be leaving because the “authorities” said it was a licence condition that children be gone by 19.00. I’ve checked what the Richmond Council website licence conditions are for this pub and there’s no mention of this. But it also doesn’t mention the need to have overly rude and lying bar staff. Nor overpriced pints. A great location which will always get the custom ruined by poor service and drinks. If you get the choice to go to another Twickenham pub, please do so - I will.

Such a welcoming and friendly pub. Very pram and child friendly and the quality of the food is superb. Special mention to Karim who always makes us feel so welcome with his team. The food portions are really good value for money.

Loved coming here after watching some rugby at Twickenham. The outside beer garden has plenty of space and there are extra porta loos outside to handle the additional capacity. There was a BBQ chugging away in the corner with hot dogs, burgers and chips which was handy!

Barmy Arms. Barmy portions. Staff were not particularly attentive. Overpriced food for tiny portions. Share plates are smaller than expected. We ordered the sharing nachos plate, which incurred a sharing plate price, but we were presented with what can only be described as a single portion.

We were happy to be able to get in as it was a quieter day than when the rugby is on! We even managed to get a table in one of the windows. The Sunday Lunch was very tasty and good value. Staff especially the manager were very welcoming.. Toilet could have been cleaner.

Nice bar after the rugby, but off game they struggled with the food orders. When it came the food was good. Good place when events are running, always good music

The Barmy Arms is the perfect pub to while away the hours by the Thames. Founded in 1676, the pub is situated in Twickenham and almost opposite Eel Pie Island. Please note that during the summer this pub gets very busy and you may have to wait for an outside table, however your patience will be rewarded with good food and drink.

This is a lovely pub, right by the Thames. I’ve been visiting occasionally for years now. My partner and I visited today, on a really hot day, and it was excellent. I ordered the chicken salad which was delicious - the only wheat free option. My partner had the chicken and bacon sandwich.

The pub has had a really nice makeover, especially in the garden. I had ma and cheese with garlic bread and it was very nice. My friends cheese toastie however had very little cheese in it so it was more just a bread toastie! I'm hoping it's just teething issues with the new menu/management. I'll certainly go back and try again.

Very rude staff. They should be thankful to the river they are making money because of its view. That’s it.
