Love coming here, feels like we really are going somewhere a little more special. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, great food and its presentation superb. They catered for 17 of us for Sunday lunch with ease, food out at the same time on hot plates and was delicious. Most family members enjoyed their starters and main. Guys that were serving us were friendly and efficient, as was the bar staff getting all of our drinks at the same time. Very accommodating as they kindly took a few photos for us. Looking forward to returning. Well done to your team

We always eat well at this restaurant. There can be a long wait for the food but the atmosphere of this cosy place and the food quality makes it all worth a visit. Also dogs are welcome in Bar area which makes it a great place for us and the dog.. Also dog treats are available to buy... 😊

Exceptional service! Our waiter was so jolly He took the time, found the right position and made sure the table looked good when I asked him to take a photo for us. He also took multiple photos to make sure there'd be at least 1 that we're happy with. Booking Christmas lunch was so easy. I had a link to share so everyone could preorder and pay a deposit at their own leisure. It was a great price. The food was fantastic. Crab croquettes were so beautifully seasoned. Turkey was lovely, especially the roast potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Basque cheesecake was wonderful. All of us have said we would go again.

Fantastic quality of food, service and ambience but the portions are too small. No vegetables are provided on the side of a main meal - just the meat and veg. Unless you pay for a side dish - but then that really bumps up the cost.

We had a wonderful lunch at The Boot taking advantage of their generous Black Friday offer. The food was beautifully cooked and delicious, and Desire, our friendly and charming waiter, looked after us really well. At the end of our visit we all left feeling very happy.

Great place with mix of different eating areas and bar etc. My only negative commitment is management really need to get the front of the building painted. The distressed outside is off putting and lets the whole experience down. Wherever I take clients there I avoid going around the front of the building. The other eatery just a few places up the road looks far more attractive and cared for in terms of curb appeal. Come on people, Get the paint brushes out!

I'm generally sceptical of pubs that bill themselves as a "gastro-pub" because either it means everything costs a fiver more than it should or the "gastro" label is applied because they serve Stokes ketchup instead of random-brand.... but in the case of The Boot, the label is apt. The prices are similar to what you would pay in other pubs but the food is more akin to a fine restaurant's fare. I had a delicious steak&ale pie, nice pastry, chock full of meat, with creamy mashed potato and perfectly-cooked green beans. My family members were equally happy with their choices -- all looked and tasted excellent. Moderate portions of excellent quality all round. Interesting menu -- more creativity than you would expect in a pub. I'll be back to try the venison and pheasant sausages -- unfortunately not available on the day. And next time we'll stay for pudding!

Good food, the beef was exceedingly good and table service but the establishment was very noisy. In addition, we were seated near the door which was open and there seemed to be a constant gaggle of staff standing around it. We had to seat ourselves, despite having booked. Not sure I would go again but would not, not recommend it. It's definitely worth a try.

I recommended The Boot to my friend for her mother’s 90th birthday. Yesterday the food was reasonably good and the waiter exceptional. However, we had to wait a really long time for our Bloody Mary,s and the starters had already arrived. Eventually, I went to the bar and ordered a bottle of white wine as Jenny whose birthday it was had not had a drink for atleast 40 min. Today, we went for a roast which was delicious but warm. I asked to talk to the Manager about the drinks situation the day before and she explained a refund had been offered. The same situation regarding the bloody Mary’s had happened once before and no sherry was available today. In mid conversation, she cut me short and said she had to rush off. I said I had not finished and reluctantly she half listened. I was annoyed that we had been kept waiting for our drinks the day before and if a cocktail was not available, to say so. Her attitude was patronising & unsympathetic not caring we had been let down. I will not be making any future recommendations as I feel disappointed by how we/I was treated. You have a lack of staff, lack of drinks and rude managers. The previous American manager was superb. I suggest you listen to your customers as you are not doing yourself any favours!!!

Starting with the things that I liked. Firstly the building itself which was gorgeous. Secondly the staff who were friendly and helpful. Thirdly the quality of the meat (we had the Sunday toast) was superb and it was expertly cooked. However what let the place down was my starter (cheese soufflé) which was overcooked and tasteless, the roast potatoes which were soggy and were not crispy in the slightest and the thin, insipid gravy. The roast veg were a little oily for my personal taste and the cabbage had too much pepper added. The Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese were perfectly adequate. The place was extremely busy, so I would like to return perhaps on a day which is not so frantic.

The food quality is excellent for the fair prices charged and you never have to hail a waiter for attention as you have your own friendly dedicated one who keeps a careful eye on you from a distance. Always enjoyed going to the boot for their roast dinner but was very disappointed today. When we first arrived we were sat in the conservatory which was very warm due to the sun beaming in. We were then served by a friendly waiter who took our drinks order. After about 15 minutes of waiting another waiter walking past said ' do you know what you want?' Which was quite shocking due to the 'fine dining' description the boot perceives and from the previous experience I have had by welcoming and friendly service. We then ordered our food and our food soon arrived after. Our food was presented nicely however the waiter that had taken our order had forgotten to put down comments to which we asked for so our food then had to be returned, due to not wanting the beef red. We also asked for extra gravy which we then had to wait 5 minutes for and the Jug which we recieved was very small and only was enough for 2 people, we were a group of 4. We then asked for another gravy Jug which we waited a long period of time for and one of the chefs ended up bringing it too our table. This meant by the time we could eat our food it was basically cold and only being heated by the gravy. The food was okay, but wasn't very flavourful or seasoned and for the money the overall experience I won't be returning any time soon. We then ordered puddings and fortunately they were delicious and thoroughly enjoyed across the table. A couple of us ordered coffees to which we then had to try and catch a servers attention as they didn't come with sugar or a teaspoon. However after waiting 5 minutes our coffees were luke warm and we decided to get up and serve ourselves. When it came to paying, it is very rare that I won't pay for service however the 10% service charge came to £20 and after basically serving ourselves we asked for it to be taken off. When asking for a new recipe, the waiter left the table politely however when going to the till to change the cost he was obviously disappointed and spoke to the other waiter about it and we then all recieved a glad from that waiter. I would like to point out we left a £5 tip due to having one lovely service from a young blonde boy who served out food and to the chefs.

This is a good place! 6 stars if there were 6 to be given. Great food, better service and such a good atmosphere. You pay for this privilege, but you get what you pay for. Totally suggest the fillet steak but generally speaking everyone at the table could not complain about the food, wine or service. Which left us to have a great evening without all the complaining that usually accompanies your usual night out. Would totally go there again and I can't wait Thank you The Boot. You should be proud

I've visited the boot on a number of occasions in the past. My most recent visit tells me one thing, this pub has seriously gone downhill. The place is clearly understaffed with the staff rushing around like there's no tomorrow. Funnily I was actually ignored for over 10mins at the bar while patrons who arrived later on were served before me. I had a good chuckle to myself as this something I've never experienced in a Cambridge pub. Finally the food, I ordered my go to favourite the sticky toffee pudding it was........Abysmal. The quality of the pudding has significantly declined, they dont even serve ice cream with it anymore. Just some sort of whipped cream. Dear Boot it was good knowing you but you're not the same anymore, time to move on!

Nice place, food v good, but mains (mine anyway) small and you need starter or side to make a meal. My (v flavoursome) lump of 'chalk stream trout' certainly came out of a fish the size of a salmon. 10% tip is automatically added to bill and you have to go out of your way in order to have this removed, ie verbally ask - which I resent on principle.

I have been to The Boot a few times now, and I have never been disappointed. Whether I go with one friend or seven friends, the standard has never dropped. I took my friend there today for his first time and he was really impressed. From the moment we arrived( without a reservation), we were greeted by a gentleman at the desk, and then shown our table/menus by Amanda. The young person who served us was brilliant as was everyone we came across. One gentleman (possibly one of the chefs) came through the restaurant singing away. He was so happy looking that I suggested we do a duet. It’s a pity I didn’t get other names, but it wouldn’t have mattered as everyone appeared to be enjoying their work. No need to tell you that I will return.

Imagine a quaint English pub with a country side feel on a lazy day. Inside is very snug in the bar area, while the dining area has a more upmarket dining air feel about it. Outside, while you enjoy the sun setting and the tiniest of breeze on a warm day, there are further more tables to choose from. The menu has some great choices. Both of us (couple) went for the pie 🥧 dish with fries and broad beans. The pie was, like the pub, quaint in size, however well cooked to perfection and with the gravy, was a beautiful meal. We had just one dessert which was a chocolate and orange mouse. By itself the mouse was so tasty on the pallete. I don't feel it needed the icecream or the crunch topping, however a nice choice none the less. The hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows was nice. We were well looked after, and for customer service, this was a joy to visit as an outsider to the area. Great job.

Dear The Boot (Histon) I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share some feedback from a recent dining experience at The Boot in Histon, which we visited last night for dinner with a friend. Upon arrival, we experienced a delay in being acknowledged while the staff engaged in conversation at the computer. This wasn't the warmest welcome, and after bringing our presence to their attention, we were seated in a quiet restaurant. While our waitress was polite, the service throughout the evening was noticeably slow. Regarding our meal, I ordered the St Austell’s Beef and Ale pie with a side of savoy cabbage with bacon. Unfortunately, the pie contained only a few small pieces of meat held together by a greyish sauce, and both the mash and gravy were lukewarm. The cabbage side was also tepid, and the bacon resembled undercooked lardons rather than the appetizing dish I anticipated. My partner opted for the chalkstream trout, which was overcooked beyond her preference, although she did enjoy it. Our friend had the house burger, which was satisfactory, though the menu-stated cheese wasn’t available. For dessert, my partner ordered a chocolate tart, which she found delightful, yet the experience was marred by having to repeatedly seek out service for our orders and drinks throughout the evening. Additionally, we noticed cleanliness was an issue; our table was not only grubby but the varnish was worn, exposing the wood beneath which can harbours germs. Furthermore, I had to return a set of cutlery due to unappealing black squishy residue. Even fellow diners expressed dissatisfaction with their meals, indicating a broader concern with the standards of food and service currently offered. It is disheartening to witness the decline in quality and service at The Boot, particularly given its association with esteemed establishments Blanc Brasserie. Unless significant improvements are made, I am hesitant to return. Thank you for taking the time to consider this feedback. I hope it will be used constructively to enhance the dining experience for future patrons.

The food was very good, in particular the fish and chips not only it was huge but also very tasty. The tartare sauce was really good with depth of flavour. The rest of our order was also good. Nice stake and burger. The service was very friendly and professional and the atmosphere was very enticing. If I had one criticism, that would be the music. I was waiting for James Brown to pop out from a corner! Maybe a more lounge/chilled music would suit better. Overall a great experience! Amazing place. Always love being here. Food menu could do with a few more vegetarian dishes but that doesn’t take away anything from the ambience and amazing service. Pistachio Soufflé are the best to finish the meal.

My partner, daughter & I came here for lunch last Friday & we had an excellent meal from start to finish. The waitress was super friendly, attentive & efficient & our meal was delicious. 2 of us ate from the a la carte menu & my partner ate from the set menu. There was plenty of choice & the food presentation & quality was excellent. My partner commented that the set menu was great value for money & portion sizes were good too. I hadn't intended to have 3 courses but couldn't resist & they were all so tasty. I started with the bean salad with goats cheese, then the hake & finished off with the pistachio souffle - all of which were delicious! We shall certainly be back!

Excellent food! Wonderful atmosphere!! The food is beautifully cooked to perfection! The cheese soufflé is second to none!! The sticky toffee pudding is the best in the world. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves eating well.

It was our go to place for years. The food keeps declining over the past couple of years now, food portions halved, prices doubled, Menu looks more like an upscale version of Weatherspoons! Not a gastro pub any more, not the food we used to eat the first 2-3 years, it has become unaffordable for most - £23 for chicken with cheep mash and a carrot sliced in half! Really a shame as it is a gem and it declines consistently, especially since it was sold to another company.

Very disappointing, ordered The ploughman's platter at £21.50 arrived with a very small piece of cheddar a dry ancient piece of red leicester cheese no pear chutney and instead of the quoted sour dough loaf I gor a dry stale very hard brown roll cut into four that was like concrete. The pork pie and scotch egg were okay but again didn't appear to be that fresh. Been to boot many times over last few years and this was the worst meal I have ever had.

Pleasant evening meal but service (although very friendly) was a bit slow. We enjoyed the starters and dsessert but I found my main course a bit below par. The green beans were VERY al dente, for example.

We went for lunch on a weekday and it was very quiet (to be expected) but the food and service was still excellent. Good, non-pretentious, pub grub. I will be going back to try their Sunday roast!

The starter was absolutely wonderful, but took about an hour to show up, then another hour between starter-main course. The pie wasn't great and the mashed potato felt like it'd been under the heat lamp all day

Amateur. Scones on display for sale “already sold”. “I haven’t put them out on a plate yet, no, we haven’t got anymore”. Bye. Can’t rate the food as I did not get any.

Great coffee and cake, friendly staff. Lovely cafe. Outside seating for nice days. No parking, limited on-street parking. No wifi.
