Very much our "Go To" gastropub - so much that we visit, always regarding it as a treat around once a month and travelling about 15 miles to do so. (Sometimes more often, but usually salivating all the way!) My partner and I have enjoyed your friendly, professional service, great food and drinks in a welcoming atmosphere for nearly 5 years now. Thank you, The Boot!

Expensive meals and underwhelming in our opinion. Six of the main dishes were unavailable. This was on a Sunday before bank holiday. God help those coming on Bank holiday!! The mains did not come with vegetables. Who wants a main with just mash? The lamb shank jus was watery, like dishwater, with no taste at all. 🙁

Just a lovely lunch on a perfect spring day, with a family friend, on a quick visit back to Cambridge. The food and wine were both delicious, portions suitably not giant, helpful but not intrusive service, and they kindly charged my phone for me. Thoroughly to be recommended - they couldn't have done it "better"!

I can't believe how fast The Boot has gone downhill. This was a firm favourite of ours but after two bad experiences in a row we will not be back. Hearing staff swearing, being left with plates on the table for over 15 minutes after each course, no check to see if our food was okay, staff eating desserts while 2 lots of customers were left with plates and no bill. I had to ask a chef for the bill who pointed to a womansitting eating.. Another member of staff on a phone. Terrible experience all together. We were asked to move, while eating by someone putting up birthday decorations for the next day! Downright bloody rude, then a member of staff helped them and asked if we could move, while eating!!!!! I most certainly did not.

Another fantastic experience at the Boot in Histon on our wedding anniversary. The food was amazing and the service impeccable. They really went above and beyond to make our anniversary feel special. Never been to Histon before, but this seemed a great opportunity to use the voucher we had generously been given for a Raymond Blanc Gastro Pub... at The Boot, Histon! A lovely friendly pub, with a great menu and dog friendly. When you have a voucher you always feel a little conscious that you are "different" but not this time! Loved it & we will be back when WE are paying! Good menu choice (off the smaller menu), food was great... and service even better - very attentive. Best of all was the ambience - this is a fun pub with like-minded people having a relaxing lunch in country surroundings.

This usually good venue really disappointed. It started with pre dinner drinks, the waitress said that they didn't have Martini, fair enough, then added it was a drink that she'd never heard of. Nibbles arrived and order was placed. An hour and forty-five minutes later the main course arrives. Four steaks ordered all served with the wrong sauces. Two steaks inedible slabs of grizzle. One returned and replaced with something somewhat better. The website boasts tomahawk, sirloin but menu has rump or fillet. It was the rump that was awful. Then the bill, we were £47 overcharged. Steak nights are advertised with a free bottle of house red with every two steaks. We were initially charged for the wine. This was corrected when we pointed out the error. Not an enjoyable evening.

Everything was fine. No complaints. Chateaubriand came as ordered, rare, but not a large portion for 2 people. I don't eat very much, so it was okay, but otherwise I think people would be disappointed, especially at £63. The other meals were alright. Very nice Indian lady served us, who deserves a mention for her hospitality. The young waiter was pretty clueless, but we got what we ordered. Everybody has to learn when young I suppose. Allows dog inside, which is great.

We absolutely love The Boot, and it has quickly become one of our favourite pubs/restaurants in the surrounding areas of Cambridge. Firstly the staff are all extremely friendly and always make us feel very welcome. The menu is varied and extensive, and the quality of food is superb. My partner is vegetarian and had a brilliant meal, her particular favourite dish being the cheese soufflé. My favourite dish was the cod which is served with mussels and a creamy sauce. I would also point out they have a very extensive selection of non-alcoholic drinks which is really nice to see. Simply fantastic.

Left disappointed. Cheese souffle for starter was best however service was slow and no check backs about food, given some items ordered were not delivered. Sauce with dishes seemed watery not as described on menu. Seemed like not enough staff available for number of bookings. Lots of people coming up to pay bill and even a family ordering deserts when server was at the till. Not what it used to be, compared to last time visited. Will give it a miss for a little while.

Oh my, we lost our Dad in December and it would have been his birthday today so we wanted to mark the occasion and go out for a family dinner. A bittersweet evening. He loved The Boot so we chose to come here to mark the occasion. The waiter absolutely made our night, I wish I’d caught his name. He was funny; attentive and kept us smiling and laughing through what could have been a really tricky evening. Your staff member is a total gem and totally made our night without even knowing our predicament. The food was beautiful too. I came here on a Tuesday night and the place as a whole surprised me and my partner as to how nice this place is all around. Our waiter (I believe his name is Desire) was extremely attentive and smiley which made our night even better on top of the exceptional food, we both had starters and mains which were so yummy we want to come back as soon as possible. This place is obviously popular (we understand why) due to the dining room being full but this did not take away from the service. Highly recommend this place and we will return soon!

What a gorgeous spot for a lovely meal with family or friends. I can't believe we've not been before! There is a lovely oak framed dining room with a large bar area off to the side, so it's an unusual venue that can genuinely cater for people wanting a quality dining event, as well as have people sitting in the bar to just enjoy a pint without one getting in the way of the other. The food menu is expansive, but these aren't ping meals—beautifully cooked, fresh and seasonal food. For instance, we had pheasant and early Rhubarb among our dishes. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive, making the experience much more comfortable. If you don't like a venue with a timed sitting (2 hours for less than 5 diners) but they try to be flexible, then it may not be for you. But we found 2 hours plenty of time. The venue was busy and is popular so they are efficient but not pushy. There's loads more to mention - dog friendly, outside dining, set menus etc. But can highly recommend. I think it might become our new favourite place.

Terrific service and a good atmosphere. Portion size perfect for three courses. Update: went on a Sunday for the roast which was fantastic. Meat was perfect and veggies were great, especially the cauliflower cheese. Menu said "bottomless roasties, yorkshire pudding and gravy" but we got 3 spuds, 1 yorkshire and an egg cup's worth of gravy with no sign of any top-ups. The portion we got was fine and I didn't need more food (although I could handled more gravy) but I was just left confused about what the bottomless thing was. Cheered myself up with the dark chocolate delice which was amazing.

Souffle Pub Working hard to review all of the Cambridge pubs therefore entered this pub. Looked like a souffle specialist to me therefore ordered their soufflé starter and dessert. Both tastes impressive. How about the guinea fowl and the fish mains? All of them tasted good. Nothing to fault about. As a reminder, it's more like a fine dining restaurant with good quality ingredients. Therefore the portions would be smaller than other pubs. More expensive than other pubs too, but you will get high quality food. The staff was friendly and nice. The environment was clean and quiet. There are so many pubs in the UK, I think it's important for them to establish something iconic/specialist dishes. That helps the customers to remember and return again. And The Boot succeeded in developing something different from other pubs: souffle as starter or dessert or both? They had special for different events too. Too bad the cheese fondue promotion is only available on Thursday evening. It looks so desirable. I will come back to try the pub classics, and get another souffle.

Sterling inside, you could tell that this place exudes a lot of character and a welcoming atmosphere. The bar staff were friendly and they appeared to be friendly towards each other, like it was a happy and cohesive team. There are two entrances: if you're after a quiet drink rather than the more noisy gastropub atmosphere, enter through the unassuming small doored high street entrance. You have easier access to the bar, plus you're next to the snug lounge that's isolated from the braying diners.

I’ve eaten at The Boot quite a few times now and would rate it as decent overall. The food is tasty (and has good seasonal specials), the pub has a nice atmosphere, and they’re good with allergies, which is always a plus. However, there are a few issues worth mentioning. Firstly, the service can be incredibly slow—last week, we waited 30 minutes just to place our first order. Secondly, we’ve had staff put through incorrect orders on multiple occasions, especially when waiters don’t write things down. I’m not sure why this is even a thing—I certainly wouldn’t mind if they took notes to get it right! Finally, while I realise this is becoming more common in the UK, adding a 12% discretionary service charge feels unnecessary, particularly given the service issues mentioned. It also puts customers in the awkward position of having to request its removal if they’re not happy—definitely not ideal. That said, it’s still a decent spot for a meal, but a bit more attention to service would make it much better.

I visited The Boot at Histon with my sister and brother-in-law for a pre-christmas celebration of just being together. We were fortunate enough to be seated in the "Snug" which is a delightful room with the ambience of a gentleman's club with a log burning fire adding additional warmth to the welcome. On entering the premises we were greeted by Alice and James, Alice, I believe is the Maitre D' controlling the team with the panache of a symphony orchestra conductor. James, standing tall, and attentive with a winning smile and easy manner directed us through and introduced us to our waiter for the evening David. Shown to our table and presented with the menu and a couple of suggestions David settled us in our seats and gave us time to study the excellent range of dishes available. David's reccomemdation of the sourdough and dips was inspired and served to us by the happy, smiling Desire who added a near near cabaret class singing accompliment. David's knowledge of the menu and his descriptions led me to select the most succulent pork ribeye ever and I must compliment the chef on the presentation. Dessert was delicious and the stylishly presented meringue and ice cream celebration of Autumnal tastes and flavours rounded off the meal superbly well. We will be back.

Great place with mix of different eating areas and bar etc. My only negative commitment is management really need to get the front of the building painted. The distressed outside is off putting and lets the whole experience down. Wherever I take clients there I avoid going around the front of the building. The other eatery just a few places up the road looks far more attractive and cared for in terms of curb appeal. Come on people, Get the paint brushes out!

I'm generally sceptical of pubs that bill themselves as a "gastro-pub" because either it means everything costs a fiver more than it should or the "gastro" label is applied because they serve Stokes ketchup instead of random-brand.... but in the case of The Boot, the label is apt. The prices are similar to what you would pay in other pubs but the food is more akin to a fine restaurant's fare. I had a delicious steak&ale pie, nice pastry, chock full of meat, with creamy mashed potato and perfectly-cooked green beans. My family members were equally happy with their choices -- all looked and tasted excellent. Moderate portions of excellent quality all round. Interesting menu -- more creativity than you would expect in a pub. I'll be back to try the venison and pheasant sausages -- unfortunately not available on the day. And next time we'll stay for pudding!

Starting with the things that I liked. Firstly the building itself which was gorgeous. Secondly the staff who were friendly and helpful. Thirdly the quality of the meat (we had the Sunday toast) was superb and it was expertly cooked. However what let the place down was my starter (cheese soufflé) which was overcooked and tasteless, the roast potatoes which were soggy and were not crispy in the slightest and the thin, insipid gravy. The roast veg were a little oily for my personal taste and the cabbage had too much pepper added. The Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese were perfectly adequate. The place was extremely busy, so I would like to return perhaps on a day which is not so frantic.

Eventually, I went to the bar and ordered a bottle of white wine as Jenny whose birthday it was had not had a drink for atleast 40 min. Today, we went for a roast which was delicious but warm. I asked to talk to the Manager about the drinks situation the day before and she explained a refund had been offered. The same situation regarding the bloody Mary’s had happened once before and no sherry was available today. In mid conversation, she cut me short and said she had to rush off. I said I had not finished and reluctantly she half listened. I was annoyed that we had been kept waiting for our drinks the day before and if a cocktail was not available, to say so. Her attitude was patronising & unsympathetic not caring we had been let down. I will not be making any future recommendations as I feel disappointed by how we/I was treated. You have a lack of staff, lack of drinks and rude managers. The previous American manager was superb. I suggest you listen to your customers as you are not doing yourself any favours!!!

Very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere with excellent, accommodating service. Both regular and seasonal staff are invariably pleasant, interacting well with youths. Food very good and welcomes dogs, offering canine dishes. Service makes the experience.

Always enjoyed going to the boot for their roast dinner but was very disappointed today. When we first arrived we were sat in the conservatory which was very warm due to the sun beaming in. We were then served by a friendly waiter who took our drinks order. After about 15 minutes of waiting another waiter walking past said ' do you know what you want?' Which was quite shocking due to the 'fine dining' description the boot perceives and from the previous experience I have had by welcoming and friendly service. We then ordered our food and our food soon arrived after. Our food was presented nicely however the waiter that had taken our order had forgotten to put down comments to which we asked for so our food then had to be returned, due to not wanting the beef red. We also asked for extra gravy which we then had to wait 5 minutes for and the Jug which we recieved was very small and only was enough for 2 people, we were a group of 4. We then asked for another gravy Jug which we waited a long period of time for and one of the chefs ended up bringing it too our table. This meant by the time we could eat our food it was basically cold and only being heated by the gravy. The food was okay, but wasn't very flavourful or seasoned and for the money the overall experience I won't be returning any time soon. We then ordered puddings and fortunately they were delicious and thoroughly enjoyed across the table. A couple of us ordered coffees to which we then had to try and catch a servers attention as they didn't come with sugar or a teaspoon. However after waiting 5 minutes our coffees were luke warm and we decided to get up and serve ourselves. When it came to paying, it is very rare that I won't pay for service however the 10% service charge came to £20 and after basically serving ourselves we asked for it to be taken off. When asking for a new recipe, the waiter left the table politely however when going to the till to change the cost he was obviously disappointed and spoke to the other waiter about it and we then all recieved a glad from that waiter. I would like to point out we left a £5 tip due to having one lovely service from a young blonde boy who served out food and to the chefs.

Great food and great team who deliver, from the welcome on arrival to the pub exit. The food quality is excellent for the fair prices charged and you never have to hail a waiter for attention as you have your own friendly dedicated one who keeps a careful eye on you from a distance. Can't fault it all and highly recommend.

This is a good place! 6 stars if there were 6 to be given. Great food, better service and such a good atmosphere. You pay for this privilege, but you get what you pay for. Totally suggest the fillet steak but generally speaking everyone at the table could not complain about the food, wine or service. Which left us to have a great evening without all the complaining that usually accompanies your usual night out. Would totally go there again and I can't wait Thank you The Boot. You should be proud

A very busy pub/brasserie. The staff were so busy as there was a very large group. We opted for the set menu and I was disappointed with my fishcake. It was so salty. We should have chosen from the a la carte. But great value for money. Lovely serving staff.

I always go here as it's walkable. The staff are always friendly. Food and drink are always great. Prices are what you would expect to pay. I was trying to think of some constructive criticism and couldn't think of any!

I've visited the boot on a number of occasions in the past. My most recent visit tells me one thing, this pub has seriously gone downhill. The place is clearly understaffed with the staff rushing around like there's no tomorrow. Funnily I was actually ignored for over 10mins at the bar while patrons who arrived later on were served before me. I had a good chuckle to myself as this something I've never experienced in a Cambridge pub. Finally the food, I ordered my go to favourite the sticky toffee pudding it was........Abysmal. The quality of the pudding has significantly declined, they dont even serve ice cream with it anymore. Just some sort of whipped cream. Dear Boot it was good knowing you but you're not the same anymore, time to move on!

Nice place, food v good, but mains (mine anyway) small and you need starter or side to make a meal. My (v flavoursome) lump of 'chalk stream trout' certainly came out of a fish the size of a salmon. 10% tip is automatically added to bill and you have to go out of your way in order to have this removed, ie verbally ask - which I resent on principle.

Really welcoming old fashioned pub with the best fish and chips I've had for years. My partner really rated his lasagne too.
