Went for a Sunday roast wasn’t upto scratch at all veg wasn’t cooked properly or felt like it was just warmed up, beef was very over done one of the kids got chicken tenders and the chicken was incredibly greasy you would think with such a limited menu it would be top draw, 1st time there for food won’t be going agin wasn’t worth it.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Bookbinder Bar and Restaurant on Lark Lane in Liverpool, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the cozy, eclectic atmosphere that perfectly balances vintage charm with modern touches. The decor, with its rich wood accents, comfortable seating, and a plethora of books lining the walls, creates a warm and inviting ambiance. The drink selection was very impressive, featuring a wide range of expertly crafted cocktails, fine wines, and local ales. The staff are knowledgeable and eager to recommend the perfect pairing for your meal. I tried the house special cocktail, which was a refreshing blend of unique ingredients that left me wanting more. In summary, The Bookbinder Bar and Restaurant is a gem on Lark Lane. Whether you’re looking for a cozy spot for a romantic dinner, a place to catch up with friends, or just a fantastic meal, this establishment delivers on all fronts. Highly recommended!

Wouldn't go out of my way to go back, I’ve had two pretty poor experiences here, the first was last summer, I was walking past late afternoon when it had started to rain, I had my hood up and did not see they had began to drop their awning - they had left it unattended at head hight, leaving me with a nasty gash in my forehead, I was mortified, I messaged them on instagram that I had cut my head open and that I didn’t want to complain but to be mindful as it’s a busy street and I was ignored. Then tonight, after a busy day, me and my partner went for an evening walk and decided to have a white wine spritz in the sun. They waited 15 mins to be served as the bar told them they had no clean glasses. When we did get our drinks, the soda was flat meaning we essentially paid the best part of £17 for watered down wine. Then when we finally sat down, we were told that the outside was closing and he would have to go inside or finish our drinks and leave. When I went to ask if we could at least have the wine changed the waiter had already began moving the tables around us. I had planned to go here for brunch tomorrow with some friends but we’ve relocated plans. Lark lane is a busy street all year around but especially when the weather is good, this isn’t news and a venue like this should put more staff on to at least keep glasses clean. Especially when they charge a premium.

The establishment boasts an appealing exterior and interior ambiance, creating a pleasant atmosphere that pairs well with their delightful coffee. Regrettably, the experience was marred by subpar table service and food preparation. I had initially ordered a full English breakfast with fried eggs and without beans. However, after enduring a 40-minute wait, I was served a full English breakfast with poached eggs, no sausage, and with beans - Completely botching my order. Addressing the error resulted in an additional 15-minute delay for a corrected order. Throughout the wait, it was evident that the staff struggled to keep track of food orders, highlighting the need for a straightforward table numbering system. Given that they already have table numbers on the till, implementing this system would greatly improve the accuracy of order delivery. While the place shows promise as a great spot for drinks, the disappointing food experience leaves much to be desired.

Booked a table for 11:30am for brunch with my girlfriend. We arrived on time and were not greeted by anyone at the door, just a sign saying to seat ourselves and order at the bar. It was extremely quiet (there was around 3 other occupied tables in the entire place) so we could've sat anywhere, but decided to take a seat upstairs. We ordered food and drinks at the bar and were given the drinks there. We was told the food we ordered (a full English breakfast, and the brunch sandwich/brioche) would be brought to our table upstairs. 50 minutes later and still no food. We had finished our drinks and were confused as to what was taking so long. The same lady who served us at the bar brought our food upstairs. No apology as to why this had taken so long. When the food came, it just seemed to get worse. The breakfast brioche was sad. One sausage, one piece of bacon, one hash brown, and a slice of cheese (no egg as per my request). The full English breakfast served the beans in what I can only compare to a McDonalds sauce pot. What made the whole situation worse was that both meals were stone cold, and there was egg shell in the scrambled eggs. The toast on the breakfast felt as though it had been waiting to be plated up since the previous day, and there was no butter provided for it. Overall, a shocking experience.

Such a disappointing experience today. My friend and I came, my food took twenty minutes. My friends took 45 mins. It was mushrooms on toast. The system for ordering and waiting for drinks is insane. Real bottle neck up at the front. Totally stressful. Food poor. Beans on toast had lots of salt on it. Balsamic dressing on poached eggs. It was inedible. I was in this place today with my sister. I wanted to treat her to a belated birthday lunch. My sister lives around the area and said she'd wanted to try it as it looks nice. I have to say that I am completely baffled by the 5 star reviews that I'm seeing, and I'm wondering are we all actually talking about the same place? Maybe Friday is an off-day or something, who knows. Food and drinks have to be ordered at the bar - there is no table service, which is just a palaver, especially when seated upstairs. And as is standard today, the food was mediocre, the prices were pretty ridiculous for the standard of food you get and the staff had a "don't really wanna be here" vibe to them, but I can't say I blame them, because after about 15 minutes in there, i didn't want to be there either. If we get good service when we eat out, we always leave a good tip, but we didn't on this occasion,so we left no tip. I can almost guarantee that come this time next year, this place will go the way of so many food establishments on Lark Lane - ripped out, refurbished and renamed. Which is a sad state of affairs really for everyone involved. Eating out these days in this country just feels like a massive p*ss take, but it felt even more so for me here. We won't be going back to 'The Bookbinder'

This place was honestly the worst dining experience I've ever had in the 34 years on this earth. And that is being kind. My wife and I visited the Bookbinder on 7/10 at around 11ish with our two American friends. They wanted to experience their first English breakfast and having been here before we thought we would take them. When we entered it was a very strange atmosphere, completely different to what we had previously experienced. No one greets you and after exchanging a few looks for the bar staff, I made my way over and was told to grab a menu and seat ourselves. I then seen a small sign the right when walk in that said 'Grab a menu and order at the Bar'. Very very strange for a restaurant we thought. We then sat ourselves upstairs and ordered. Our food arrived within about 10/15 minutes an because we ordered separately to our friends, my wife and I's came first. Before the young girl finished placing our plates I could see multiple hairs on one of our plates. As I went to take them off I could see they were fully wrapped around and stuck to the bacon. As my wife began to bork, I then inspected the rest of her plate. I was horrified to find not only a small black hair on her egg but also what looked like fluff from a jumper on the other side of her egg. This tipped us over the edge and as the young lady approached us with cutlery I showed her our plates and she was visibly embarrassed. She offered us a full refund. As our American friends were very hungry they said they were happy to wait for their food. After another 5 minutes their food arrived and they began to inspect their plates. One of our friends was then horrified to find another hair completely wrapped around their vine tomatoes. We then all began to bork. I was livid and embarrassed that we had proudly wanted to show them what an English breakfast should be like, only to be served food with more hair than you'd find on a hairdressers floor. I then made my way downstairs and approached the young lady and asked her what is going on? Do the chefs not check their food? Does anyone own a hair net in this place? I then looked inside the kitchen and instantly realised where all these hairs had come from. I could see a very hairy male chef with a dark beard who wasn't wearing a hair or beard net. A few seconds later I then say another male chef without a hair net as well. The lady again was mortified and agreed to refund our friends. We are honestly not the moaning type and if it was one hair we would be willing to let that slide as mistakes happen. There was a feeling of total negligence from those in the kitchen, chefs who love what they do would not send food out like that. I hate to say it, but please avoid this place like the plague, unless you want to be scarred for life. We couldn't eat for the rest of the day and we still feel sick now thinking about it. I can honestly say I don't think we will ever be able to go for breakfast again. So thanks BookBinder. If I could give this place minus stars I would but I have given the service 1 star and that is purely for the girl who refunded us. I would be interested to know when this place was last checked by the food standards agency.

Ok, my photo doesn’t do it justice but the food here is so delicious. We ordered the Roast Beef Wreck sandwich and the Deli Board – every element is meticulous prepared and cooked to perfection. The roast beef is super tender, and so flavourful paired with the melted, gooey mature cheddar. The portions on the deli board are incredibly generous; I mean, look at the amount of cheese you get for £14? An absolute steal. It’s worth noting that this place is also dog-friendly, a huge win for dog parents like us. This place is easily our new favourite spot for brunch/lunch and I’m eagerly looking forward to returning.

Decided to come here after seeing they do Sunday roasts. The main door off the lane was blocked by people so we went through a side door near the bar. After standing there for a bit one of the bar staff told us to just sit anywhere that was free. We went upstairs and sat for a bit wondering if anyone would take our order or if we order at the bar - I went to check but then saw a sign as I walked down the stairs (by the main door, which I didn’t enter through) indicating it’s the latter - fine. Ordered two beef roast dinners which seemed to take ages to come. When they did arrive the waitress put the plates down and she informed us that the cutlery lives downstairs. So, I made another trip downstairs and back up again, this time with cutlery. The plate was topped with a massive, mostly burnt, Yorkshire pudding which I had to try and work around to get to the rest of the food. What lay beneath it was equally unappealing. For starters the beef was in fact not roasted, but consisted of two slices of cheap cut sirloin (maybe?) with a strip of fat. It had been fried long enough that it was black speckled and had the texture of a car tyre. The vegetables were generally undercooked and had a crunch (except for the roast potatoes, which were cold). The whole thing was swimming in gravy and I can only imagine this was to try and disguise everything else. Had the server come back to the table to check how everything was, I would’ve mentioned that my food wasn’t brilliant, but nobody came. I figured I could say something on the way out but there was only the person on the bar who was serving drinks. At the end of the day, it wasn’t their fault and there’s nothing they can do about it as I’m leaving! Overall, avoid unless you want to eat below par food at above average prices. It’s sad that this is now the case in many places on Lark Lane which seem to operate on a similar basis.

I go to lark lane a lot, and there’s many lovely restaurants, but bookbinder is not one of them. We ordered 3 full english breakfasts and a beef sandwich, of which the sandwich was burnt and the breakfasts were cold. I politely tried to let them know there was an issue with the food, and was met with a bad attitude from the waitress, who just walked off after I let her know. We can tolerate mistakes with the food but when it is dealt with like this it ruins the experience completely. It’s disappointing because I wanted to bring my friends somewhere nice, but clearly didn’t come to the right place.

Unfortunately, the wait for food was over an hour with the kitchen clearly struggling with service and washing up, but we weren't too hungry to wait and we left feeling really happy and relaxed after a lovely lunch. Was served two off beers on the bounce in here. Told the bartender about the first one and they took it off and gave me a replacement, but they put it straight back on again when they thought I wasn't looking. When the second beer also turned out to taste funky I decided it was best to just leave. They clearly have no idea how to keep beer properly and have a total disregard for their customers.

Only stopped for a cuppa after a lovely walk around Sefton Park. Seems like a lovely place, surprisingly spacious, nice decor and clean toilets. All the basics being good, we plan to return to eat. Will update

I came here for lunch with my friend at around 2pm on a Saturday, ordered 1 meal and two small plates, the coffee was very nice and the atmosphere was good with friendly staff. There ends the positives, we were waiting over 1.5 hours for our food to arrive, given very little reassurance that it was actually going to arrive having to ask multiple times "what on earth was happening". Finally the food came, and we wrangled some free drinks (upon our very reasonable request). Another thing, although not the places fault, a very rude customer (in an ugly red versace jumper) allowed his filthy pooch to clamber all over me (my friend exclaimed "what da dog doin") whilst I was still eating my luke warm burger and refused to acknowledge this inconvenience, something that I imagine happens a lot with the amount of k-9s around the place. Although a lovely setting and atmosphere, the experience was unfortunately shadowed by extremely slow service, something that seems to be a reoccurring theme reading other reviews. May give another chance but wouldn't count on it.

Poor food and very expensive. £16:50 for a large G&T and a pint of lager. £5 cheaper across the road. Service was pleasant which was its only saving grace

Always do a perfect Cortado coffee.Staff heat the glass with boiling water before making Cortado. This makes all the difference as coffee is always piping hot.

The roast beef was very tough. The roast potatoes were dry and cold. The Yorkshire pudding was tasteless and dry. What on earth is the stuffing about that you are selling? The ‘service’ was offered reluctantly. The tables were full of dirty used cups, plates etc. It wasn’t particularly busy and the two roasts ordered still took 40 minutes to arrive.

I am a regular customer at the Titanic hotel. It’s a fantastic environment however the cost of an evening meal is very low.compared with other competitors on the the Liverpool water front. £18 .50p is not a lot of money for fish and chips. Some times the meal is exceptional some times it is very poor. John Riley Regular customer.

Visited Yea Rah Liverpool one on Sunday 1st. Firstly walked in to a not very smiling staff. ordered our food me and my stepson ordered full rack of ribs to which they didn’t have so had to settle in n half a rack each. When it arrived presentation was good but av seen more meat on a butchers pencil I was spitting out bone and fat disgusting. My wife ordered chicken jalfrezi which was very dry and served on a hot plate very unusual. My other stepson ordered chicken melt which was cold and had Edam cheese not even melted and wouldn’t feed a pigeon never mind a growing 6’4 Lad so he wasn’t impressed.. my stepdaughter ordered peri peri chicken and it come as a whole chicken cut in half she wasn’t impressed either. I visited the toilets and looked like it hadn’t been checked for a while maybe 3 hours disgusting 🤮… so over all we will not be visiting this place ever again oh and a price tag of £105

Nandos. Everybody loves Nandos and the Liverpool One branch really is at the top of their game. Fast, efficient staff and THOSE spices on tender juicy chicken makes it a no brainer.
