£££ Pricy but good drinks, great views of the river

We booked a table for 6, celebrating a friends 70th birthday The atmosphere and venue is great, beautiful location on the river. The service was also great, attentive, listened to dietary requests, advised and the menu. The menu is a good selection, varied and one of those with so many good options, you might struggle to chose what you want. The specials were good too! We had three courses, which is unusual as some of us are not real dessert fans, but it really was good! We will be back and will bring more family / friends. Although we live an hour away, it could be worth the drive

nice….a good sunday afternoon to eat

This is a great venue sitting on the Thames with great views inside or out. The menu has a great range of old favourites mixed with more modern fusions. Been 10 times or more and never disappointed. Service is always very nice.

Often you are led to believe the world is all bad with the constant flow of news but sat here for breakfast, I realised we live in a beautiful part of the world. Sat eating breakfast and a great orange juice watching the boats and badges approach and leave the lock. Just lovely.

Came here for brunch with my wife and friends on our anniversary weekend. Lovely location but what on earth was going on in the kitchen? Took over an hour of chasing to get the simplest of meals which arrived dry and tasteless. To top it off, before serving the food, the waitress even came and placed a sign on our table to say we had to be gone by noon as the next sitting was arriving. Farcical. The "Jimmy Butler's sausage patty" arrived like a tiny McDonald's cheeseburger, missing the sauces etc and nothing else on this large serving plate. Eventually they brought the sauce about ten minutes after the only mouthful on the plate had disappeared as we were so hungry. Other meals were the same. We were made to pay in advance at the bar so could not even withhold the service charge. Over £50 for four tiny cold snacks. I wouldn't recommend eating here.

I visited specifically to try the Native Lobster as it was on offer, plus it was a special Birthday lunch. Sadly the Lobster was very small for the price and very chewy. Our server Paul was great and very attentive, so I mentioned it to him and was offered a free dessert... which was nice, but I'd have preferred the lobster to have been cooked properly and enjoyed it more. Once home I realised we'd also been charged for 2 extra drinks on the bill, 1 being the glass of wine that was included in the Lobster offer! I have emailed them but 3days later no response 😕 I've visited several times in the past and the food was always nice, so this was very disappointing.

Food OK but service poor as the staff were very busy.

Lovely location & setting. Service was slow and then almost stopped at a certain point in the evening. Perhaps the staff start doing other jobs and don’t check in at the tables. We weren’t the last people in the restaurant and it wasn’t very late when we left but we had to keep trying to get someone’s attention which was frustrating. Also I ordered decaf coffee which I’m sure wasn’t decaf! Some more attentive service in this excellent location would really make it a remarkable restaurant.

The restaurant exceeded all expectations. Amazing food, excellent service and a cozy atmosphere. I recommend you to visit!

A really lovely time at the Boathouse! Service from all staff was excellent and very attentive - nothing was too much trouble! Food was tasty - we liked the fish options. The setting is gorgeous overlooking the river and it kept our attention throughout watching the boats go up and down. Would definitely recommend but best to book as it was busy - even midweek!

Gets 4 stars for fantastic location (morning coffee overlooking Thames) but 2 for service. Nice enough staff but confusing messages about whether to order at bar or table, very slow first order, then lost second order and even then got it wrong...shame ,location deserves 5 stars

With the environment, atmosphere and food, it’s a lovely restaurant to be in. However some og the staff could be more welcoming and with less attitude Other than that everything was fine and lovely experience with a nice river front view.

What a great place! We spent our last night in England in Burnham, and our hotel restaurant was closed, so we ventured out . We thoroughly enjoyed everything about the Boathouse. The food was exceptional. The beer and wine lists were great. The location was perfect. The bar and wait staff, superb! Thanks for a great experience.

My son took me here at Sunday lunchtime for a birthday treat. He felt it was a good choice as we had been before and the location is beautiful overlooking the river. I'm disabled so he dropped me off at the door whilst he went to park the car in a nearby car park. I thought I'd order a g&t to sip while waiting for him to return. It didn't arrive until he did and the server came immediately to take our order. There is a choice of 2 or 3 courses so I ordered the starter, a prawn cocktail, but my son passed on a first course. The prawn cocktail duly arrived and about two minutes after so did the main course. I thought about asking them to take it away but I feared they might leave it lying around then nuke it in the microwave so I battled on with my starter on the now crowded table setting. The mains was lukewarm when I was ready to eat it, very little meat, lots of cabbage, hard carrot and parsnips and an enormous tasteless Yorkshire which I left. Gravy was nice though. We both had dessert - lots of choices. Disappointing commercially produced chocolate and caramel pie with ( I think) creme fraiche. Coffee OK. I told the server I was not pleased with the pace of the service and she apologised but that was it. I appreciate they are busy but I feel the place is run according to the dictates of the kitchen rather than the customer. One to avoid if you want a relaxing meal.

Beautiful location and excellent food and service.

Such a lovely spot. Super easy, grab and outside table, order at the bar and take in the sun. We had a really nice lunch. Slightly annoying you have to order at the bar (as we sat outside) but nevertheless enjoyable

Very nice place, I have been few times, always in the tarrace section with beautiful river view. Food and cocktails are tasty, i really like this place.

We went for a late lunch. The venue is on the riverbank next to a lock with amazing views. The waiting staff are excellent throughout our meal. They all looked after us impeccably. We both crab cake and prawn cocktails for starters. For mains,we both had fishpie which was delicious. Lots of hake and salmon pieces and a beautiful mash topping. We really enjoyed our meal and will be very pleased to go back again.

Overall we had a great time. We had quite a large group (12) and arrived at a peak meal time so while our food did take a little longer to get to the table, the service staff was excellent, very communicative and the food was really good. Like other local places, they have allergy, friendly menus and a lot of gluten-free options. I had the watermelon edamame salad with the filet and the steak was wonderful, tender and perfect for that plate. A few folks at the table had the ox cheek and said it was wonderful and tender and a couple of people and had the wagyu cheeseburger, which was decent from their feedback. The location itself is gorgeous and all the views of the water are really nice for a great meal.

Had a lovely lunch for hubbies birthday. Love the setting. Had our usual waitress who is efficient and friendly. Can highly recommend the Banana Colada Cocktail. Would have been a 5* review had there not be a problem with the bill, although it was soon rectified. Still remains one of our favourite places to go. Can’t leave this review without commenting on their Sunday Roast - ample portions of traditional English food.

Popped here today just for a drink...I've given 5 * for food as what I saw being served looked absolutely amazing and those around us cleared their plates....It was very busy but staff member Sharon found my husband and I a little table inside as it did look as though it was about to rain.Nice vibes & atmosphere.Good locally sourced products on the menu great selection of drinks.

Located in a beautiful spot on the river with a mooring spot for boats this a lovely place for a drink or to grab a quick bite to eat but perhaps not an evening meal. Unfortunately my experience dining here was a little underwhelming, opting for starters and mains, My parter and I were sat waiting for a fair while. This was likely due to running out of the market fish midway through service. The pea ravioli (pictured) was nothing to write home about, bland in taste and texture, wanting for seasoning and a punchier filling. The crab cake tasted delicious but was cooked far too long leaving the crust stiff and difficult to break through without crushing the soggy structure within. The steak and ale pie was flavoursome and was a good portion size and did slightly make up for the disappointing starter. The atmosphere was fine, with an abundance of tables but service was fairly slow. For the price, there are better restaurants in the area.

The Boathouse Restaurant is set in a beautiful location, which adds to the charm and overall experience. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the expectations set by the venue and previous reviews. Starting with the prawn cocktail, the prawns were notably small—more akin to what you might expect in a sandwich rather than a traditional prawn cocktail. This was disappointing and set a less than favorable tone for the meal. The chicken starter was another letdown, arriving undercooked in places. It had to be sent back, which is never a good sign. While mistakes can happen, serving raw chicken is a significant oversight that raises concerns about kitchen standards. The main dishes were a mixed bag. The sirloin on the bone was overly salted but otherwise acceptable. It wasn't particularly memorable, which is a shame given the restaurant's reputation. The other main dish, another chicken option, was just okay—nothing to write home about. Overall, this visit to The Boathouse Restaurant was underwhelming, especially after reading so many positive reviews. Perhaps it was an off day for the kitchen, but the inconsistency in food quality was disappointing. Despite the beautiful location and lovely setting, the dining experience fell short of expectations.

What a lovely place, sunny evening nowhere nicer, however the service is slow but friendly. The food was mixed, one meal good the other awful. Choosing carefully might help, could be much better in this wonderful setting. Will I be back? Maybe for a drink!!

Great location and views, although it doesn't have it's own parking the public car park is cheap and over the road and there is space to drop any passengers off if the weather isn't great. As a space it's open and very well lit, will happily go back.

Lovely way to celebrate my husbands birthday today with Sunday Lunch. Great food, brilliant service and a lovely river view table, inside from the rain. Excellent value for money, will be booking again soon.

Easy mooring just below the lock. I had the cheeseburger, which was quite good, and my daughter had the chicken schnitzel; also quite good.

Not a great experience. Last time we visited was a year ago and it’s significantly dropped in service since then. We dined upstairs and were left stood at the door while the Matre d chatted to bar staff for 5 mins before acknowledging us. We then were seated but waited 25 minutes to be offered drinks. Food order was straight after the drink arrived but took 50mins to arrive. We ordered two specials - fillet of beef with celeriac purée and posh fish n chips. Fillet was small but tasted ok fish and chips felt very standard pub faire - but a very large portion. Desert was poor and we returned it - chocolate fondant was over cooked to the point it tasted awful. The couple seated behind us also complained about the length of service -55 mins for food and a burnt main course. Service here has declined and wait for food too long. Great location but poor serving staff on upper floor reined the experience. Has the chef / kitchen team changed in the last 12 months as the foods was lacklustre? Whoever was running the upstairs waiting team that night need retrained or replacing.

I was there admittedly for a private function but, service was great and friendly, weather was OK so didn't spoil the atmosphere and views along the Thames were calm n quite and just great. Definitely will be going back for myself soon....

It was a birthday breakfast for a group of people. The coffee was served in a chipped cup. The breakfast was cold,toast was overdone,had a vegetarian option. The others had full English breakfast again served cold,items bacon overcooked,black pudding burnt. Extremely disappointed, however the location was perfect,no car parking.

Love the location and been here many times and had great meals. I visited recently and had a burger which was a bit pink inside. This then gave me food poisoning the next day. I emailed the restaurant and never received response.

Definitely worth stopping. The view of the river is perfect company to a nice dinner or ice cold beer.

Please avoid this place. The worst service you could possibly find? Right here. Let me detail my disappointment with the service my party and I received at your establishment today. This was our third visit, and regrettably, each experience has been subpar, with our latest visit being particularly disappointing. We had booked a reservation in advance and informed the staff that we would be bringing two dogs with us. Upon arrival, we requested to sit outside and were assured that this would not be an issue. However, the outdoor seating area was in an unacceptable state, with tables and chairs covered in bird droppings. No effort was made to clean the area before seating us. Our drinks were served promptly, but the service deteriorated from there. We waited over 45 minutes for our food to arrive, which included: - Avocado and poached egg on toast - A bacon and egg sandwich - A Full English breakfast - Beans, sausage, and egg During this extensive wait, not a single staff member approached our table to check if we needed additional drinks or to update us on our order. When our food finally arrived, it was missing essential condiments such as salt, pepper, and sauces. By the time we managed to get the attention of the staff to bring these items, our food had become cold. Moreover, the bacon in the bacon and egg sandwich was undercooked, appearing pink as if it had been boiled rather than fried. We had to send the sandwich back, adding to the delay and frustration. After finishing our breakfast, no one came to clear our table or offer the bill. I had to go inside and speak to a manager. I was directed to a lady at the back of the bar and explained our experience. Her response was that the restaurant does not offer table service outside—a detail that was not communicated to us when we requested to sit outside, as we would have seated inside. To add to our frustration, this lady took my phone number and email, promising to follow up after her shift ended at 3 PM. As of now, I have not received any communication from your team. Despite the numerous issues we encountered, no discount was offered on our £56 bill for 4 average breakfast dishes and coffee and our concerns were not addressed at the time they were raised. The lack of communication, poor service, and general neglect we experienced is unacceptable. As this was our third attempt to enjoy a quick breakfast at your restaurant, we have decided not to give it any further chances. I urge the management to take these complaints seriously and make the necessary improvements to prevent other patrons from having similar experiences. I hope to hear back from you soon regarding this matter.

Nice place to have a meal. Limited options for vegetarians and food can get better as bread we were served was a bit dry. Great environment overall, and staff was extremely courteous. Will definitely go back once they open the terrace. There is a great area for kids just besides the restaurant maintained by the council. For parking, use the Council car park nearby.

I visited recently with family to celebrate a 65th birthday and a 40th wedding anniversary. We were handed menus and chose our food. The waitress comes and 2 starters were not available. We order starters and mains. Whilst waiting for mains a guy comes out & says the steaks we ordered were not available so we have to start again. So disappointing for a very special celebratory evening. Will think twice next time. BTW - the guy was very pleasant, the waitress not so much!

Just had a great lazy relaxing lunch with a friend. This place has the best views of the Thames in Maidenhead. Had a delicious hot pork roll with some fries on the side. Served with a little jug of gravy too. Excellent! Great serving staff too.

I didn't eat, so I can't comment there, but on entry, it being Easter, we were offered a hot, hot crossed bun and butter! Yum ... but even more yum was the quality of staff, who made you feel welcome and included from the get-go - I Acknowledged them in person but would highly recommend this gorgeously positioned AND gorgeously attentive pub! I will be back even though I live in London!

We have been given a table in the bar area, as reaurant tables were fully reserved. We got told we can order from the same menu, however, the service was not as good as expected. There were no cultery bought to the table. we had to ask for cultery after the food arrived. No napkins provided, I had to go to service station to ask for it. We had to wait long for the main plates to be cleared. I got a menu and orderred dessert at the bar myself instead of waiting for someone bring us the dessert menu. Salt and Pepper arrived to the table at the same time when main plates get cleared away. On settling the bill, the amount has been put through PDQ without presenting a itemlized bill, again had to ask for a print out. Last cubicle lock in ladies isnt working properly, my 9 years old daughter got locked inside, when I asked for help from the host, I got told to turn the other way, instead offering help. My daughter was in tears, and got so distressed after knocking and shouting for help in the cubicle, I came out ask for help second time, again got told to turn the lock the other way. After I insisted someone need to come in to unlock the door, a young female staff came in to the bathroom with a coin to unlock the door. Clearly they were aware of the lock problem. Bar tender was friendly.

We were a party of 5 celebrating my mum’s 60th birthday and everything about the service received was 10/10. The staff were friendly and extremely accommodating, considering we had a number of requests for the restaurant to make my mum’s day extra special. From sitting us on a beautiful, intimate table to accommodating to everyone’s dietary requirements - the staff went absolutely above and beyond. My brother and I have celiac disease and felt super safe eating here, as the staff informed us of the gluten free options and even gave us a separate gluten free menu. Not to mention, the restaurant and its surroundings are absolutely stunning. The restaurant is situated along the river and the views from the restaurant are beautiful. The interior of the place is also gorgeous, and perfect for a special occasion. I just want to say a massive thank you for making my mum’s 60th extra special. Your care, attention to detail, and compassion is something that stood out to us. No doubt, we will be coming back. Thank you for making it a night to remember. The waiting staff who served us on the 16th March are a true credit to your restaurant.

I came here for a belated Mother’s Day lunch and it was fab. The views are gorgeous and the food options are great and super fresh. The thing that really impressed me however was the service. We came with 2 small children and they were incredibly accomodating. Nothing was too much trouble. They were very attentive and very helpful. We would definitely be returning. The front of staff and our server, Lou in particular was super. Thank you

Definitely a must go. Beautiful restaurant next to a river. The staff was very friendly and looked happy to work there, which is nothing but means a lot. Service was fast and the food excellent. One of the best restaurants we have been so far. Be prepared to see us again :-)
