The Boathouse in Trafford

We held our WI Christmas lunch here on Friday 20th December ( 74 ladies in total). The food was piping hot and delicious and service was outstanding ,nothing was too much for them ,we will be back next year !

It was a party event night. When the DJ was setting up, the noise level was terrific, and hard to talk. Not sure that was needed. The entertainment was quite good (Abba act) and in general it was a good party atmosphere and everyone seemed happy and we danced too, which was fun. It was very noisy in there and being slightly deaf, and unfortunately, seated near the noise source, I did struggle. What I did not like was it was draft where I was sat and I saw another woman over by the windows, sat in a coat the whole evening! Also partway through the evening I could smell smoke wafting in from a part opened door, so unsure if a customer or staff member. The food was nothing special. Steak as well as tough, grisly and chewy, even though I specifically asked prior to ordering if it was lean and told emphatically no fat; so ended up leaving most of it. Most unpleasant experience since I only eat red meat for an occasional treat. The peppercorn sauce was insipid. As for the dessert... well the tart was OK but really.... served with a thimble full of 'Mr Whippy' type ice cream that tasted simply cheap and synthetic. The best part of the meal was the chips, which surprisingly were excellent. Also, the food was served nice and hot and staff worked hard. I would still recommend this venue for a themed night out so long as your expectations are not too high and your meal is enjoyed. Oh and incidentally, there was an unpleasant smell when entering the building on the ground floor. It smelt like rats to me but perhaps not unsurprising with its location.

We had booked a table for four, for lunch on Tuesday, 10th December. As you can imagine, the restaurant was quite full already when we arrived for our 12.30 booking. This is a very busy time of the year everywhere and we were fully prepared to have to 'wait a while' both to order and then have our food prepared. WOW - what incredible service we (and all the other diners) received. There was hardly any time spent waiting to be attended to. Our food orders were delivered with hardly any delay - thankyou to every one of the friendly, very hard-working staff - you were amazing. Love The Boathouse - consistently good food. Thanks again.

Had a fantastic Christmas do here tonight. Twenty of us and we had such a great night. The food was superb, service friendly and swift, but best of all was the atmosphere. It was so much fun to get up on the dancefloor - all ages were up there - and the singer was amazing. Brilliantly inclusive fun! Will definitely be going back.

Food was exceptional but the disco on a Saturday totally ruins the ambience. Will not be going on a Saturday again but may go on a Sunday because I have always enjoyed the food.

We were so pleased to be back at The Boathouse, Sale Water Park today. The restaurant has been a family favourite for many years offering a varied menu of great food, with welcoming and efficient staff in a relaxed atmosphere. An added bonus is of course the view of the Water Park. We both chose the Early Diner menu - good value and lovely food.

We visited the boathouse today for a family family gathering, it's a lovely place with a great view of sale watermark, we got great seats by the window, seated quickly and the service was great throughout, the staff were lovely, two of our party had burgers which were lovely, I had a bite and agreed the burger tasted great, the fries were great too, I had the mix grill, the chicken was garlic flavoured a little unusual but nice, the gammon was nicely cooked, but already salted, unusual for gammon, the rump was awful I couldn't chew it absolutely shocking, the black pudding and suasage tasted odd like cheese, the egg and chips were great, I'm not a fan of tomato so can't comment on that, the kids both had pizza, sadly both complained that the dough was tastless quoting the cheap ones from the supermarket as being better, they did look underdone to me very pale looking, cheese was melted though. Deserts I had sticky toffee pudding with orange? The orange flavour over powered the desert and made it more orange sponge with syrup and whilst it was an OK combination it wasn't anything like sticky toffee pudding in flavour, the wife had meringue which was nicely presented and tasted great, the mother in law had orange and chocolate cake and enjoyed it the kids had cheesecake and none of them liked it, kit kat cheesecake, they love cheesecake I tried some myself and it tasted of cheese, like a really strong cheese, it was awful, my immediate thoughts were cheese has been put in the fridge and flavoured the cheesecake suasage and black pudding tainting the flavours, but obviously I don't know that, everyone who had cold drinks commented on the stage taste of the drinks and the fruit in the drinks, toilet water was mentioned in the description, it was an odd taste, the only thing that left a worse taste in my mouth was when we paid the bill or should I say my mother in law did at 86 years of age she tapped the card to make payment, it was only when we got to the car and she passed us the reciept that we realised a bill of 25 quid was a tip to the service staff, to be fair they probly earned it bit I don't like this kind of thing myself. All in all the venue was great, brilliant service staff, food a mixed bag, maybe just a bad storage decision if that was the case it ruined our meals, but if not then half the food was awful I'm afraid, I can't explain the drink and fruit flavours.

Group 18 people. Food was superb and very friendly staff. Very clean, nothing was too much effort. Prices was reasonable. Terrific views over the waterfront.

On the last minute ( day before) we booked a table for 12 people. Five had fish & chips , three had steak & ale pie, which looked to be freshly made with a lovely flavoursome gravy. One had Gammon, two had burgers. All served with a smile, beautifully cooked. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Service was excellent.

A lovely place with efficient friendly service. BUT!! the food really lets it down these days. I have been coming here on a very regular basis since the place opened, say 30 years ago. This was the place for a steak. Really superb steaks. You used to get a nice complimentry salad and roll and butter before the meal; but no longer. The last few times I've been I have had the salt and pepper ribs. I ask for them lightly done, they come almost cremated! Same with whitebait. I think the cook used to work at Altrincham crematorium!! There seems to be little difference between fillet steak and sirloin. Both seem like poor quality rump in texture and toughness. I think I only come back because of nostalgia as to what it used to be.

My sister and I visited the cafe at the Boathouse for lunch. Although our waitress was very pleasant, the food was poor quality. The whole set up is dire. Prices are very high. The whole building is in need of a major refurbishment. Never again.

Dined here on numerous occasions the last occasion being 5 years ago and never had a bad meal. Decided to call again last week as a party of 10 and every one of us enjoyed every aspect of our visit from the service to the food it was too notch.

My previous 5* TripAdvisor reviews were January and June 2015, December 2016 and January 2023. I’ve eaten there plenty of times in between but as it’s been consistently good, I haven’t left a review on every occasion. This 2* is only because the starter was ok, otherwise it would have been 1*. The main was bad. Not enjoyable at all. There was no way that gammon had just been freshly cooked - it was actually dry on the external surfaces. It was soooooooo salty, too. The chips were nasty. Had a (non branded) soft drink which I buy in plenty of places so know the average price, but surprised how much it was here. Won’t be rushing back.

We went there as a family to celebrate a family member's birthday. Not overly impressed with the food, it was basic and there was no presentation or finesse put into it. I ordered the Peppered Chicken, I asked for just potatoes as I don’t like peas, the server said “chips so” and moved on didn’t feel I had any other option. My husband’s gammon was chewy. I was surprised that a restaurant doesn’t give the option to have other veg. We did have to wait nearly an hour to order desserts, my sister in law had to ask a couple of times to order. Price wise it is varied the Early Diner menu is good value, 3 courses for £23.85, however other dishes are overpriced £4.95 for a “Mr Whippy” style ice-cream with a sauce, Their side dishes are limited, you can’t order saute mushrooms or onions which is disappointing as been Gluten Intolerant I can’t have the onion rings but there isn’t any other onion option. There is a dico that starts at 20:00hrs on Saturday nights. Personally I would be in a rush back.

Me and my family came here for a Mothers Day meal. One of our party was running late due to a forgotten present (totally my fault) our party of 5 was put on a table for 4 with an extra chair put on. We were avoided every time we said we were waiting for 1 extra person, not even offered drinks or given the option of nibbles. One of the waiters then tried to hurry us on making out we were running out of time causing worry for my mother. I ended up calling the latecomer and taking their order the spoke to the manager. He said we actually had loads of time so the rush was unnecessary. I asked then to take the order anyway, which one of the few nice waitresses did. The food took a while to arrive and one dish was wrong. When told to the waitress she looked at us completely confused and annoyed. As my Dad and Brother are Coeliac (allergic to gluten) they had 2 separate pots of gravy. There was also an addition jug of gravy (with stains on) brought to the table even though gravy was on the normal roasts anyway. This made our small table even smaller. The food wasn't great. My mum struggled to cut the her meat as it was so tough, the potatoes were like plastic and the Yorkshire pudding was too dry to eat. Then the desert order was done. My dad and brother asked for their ice cream order to be gluten free but they arrived with wafers. I asked if they were gluten free and were told they weren't. After all this mess a service charge of £17 was added which i insisted was removed. The whole experience was stressful and incredibly disappointing. It looked liked they'd over booked and didn't have the space or the staff to accommodate so many people. The bar staff and a couple of the waiters were so lovely and helpful though.

Firstly this was a very special occasion (Mother’s Day)for my grandma who is 92 years of age . 90% of sight is lost . My Alderly grandma is very conscious eating out in public as she struggles to cut up her food with her eyesight and is very embarrassed. Me and my 10 year old daughter wanted to treat her to a nice meal out . After a lot of persuasion we got her to come agree to a meal out . We arrived and waiting ten minutes to be seated , the table was booked 3 weeks ago . When the manager was asked after 3 times when we would be seated he eventually showed us to our table . We ordered one sea bass and two roast dinners . Food arrived ten Minutes later , a hair was found in my roast lunch , I sent this back . My grandmother who is blind asked my 10 year old to cut her lunch up While doing this a hair was found in the lemon . By this point I was very dissapointed and did not want to make a scene as it would have of upset my grandma . I asked to speak to the manager , when the manager eventually came to our table he was rude had no customer service what so ever . I told him what had happened and he shrugged his shoulders no apology, I then asked him what he can offers to do , he response was leave if you don’t like it . We got the bill and left . Absolutely disgusting .

Great spot for a view over the water park but that was about it. Went for lunch 8 March for Mother’s Day celebration, arrived (table for 4) & waited to be seated as instructed. Several members of staff walked past us and ignored us. Why? Eventually got seated after chasing down the staff. Ordered drinks from the bar that took 20 mins to arrive. Ordered food which was the highlight of the visit, followed by dessert with coffee. Asked for coffee to be served with dessert. After 3 requests and a 15 minute wait after our dessert, the coffee arrived. Had to request the bill three times and eventually went to the till to get it. The food is always consistent at the boathouse, but the service needs to be reviewed it costs nothing to have good welcoming service and a smile for your customers

Wasn’t sure what to expect. Really impressed. Staff were delightful and happy in their work. Manager very welcoming. Chose from the set meal: good quality pie, hot chips and peas followed by fruit crumble. All delicious and good value. Will come again, also in the daytime for the view.

Being a guest for many decades this has never been so poor. The service was brilliant the food lacked finesse and the the all important taste. It’s not hard to make a Sunday dinner but clearly it is here. It was cold and tasteless. Bring back Winny!

Went for our 49th wedding anniversary. Food was amazing! We had salt and pepper ribs fir starters then pork fillet for our main course. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and staff were attentive.

Why on earth can’t parents control their children when bringing them to this lovely restaurant. On more occasions than I care to remember we have been enjoying a splendid lunch together with friends when families have arrived, including posh parents, and allowed their children to scream and shout and disturb people who were enjoying their lunch. Whilst we appreciate that this is a family restaurant, surely ‘families’ should respect the comfort of others and not just sit back and allow their ‘kids’ to annoy other diners !

Nipped in for Sunday lunch today with friends. The staff were lovely and friendly, the food was nice and was served extremely quick considering it was Sunday lunch. The only thing which lets this place down is the cleanliness, the table was sticky, the windows need a good clean and it generally feels tired inside and in need of a makeover

Visited on a Sunday around 6:30/7pm. We didn’t book a table but we were seated straight away. Our food was lovely, I would recommend the Garlic Bread starter and the Haddock and Chips. Also really generous portion sizes. Good service, and really nice views of the lake.

Yet again, another fantastic night spent with friends at "The Boathouse Sale" AKA Deckers in a previous existence. Stuart and his staff yet again never fail to deliver the perfect and professional overall experience of a quality night out for dinner and drinks with friends. If you're looking for an impressive venue that is maybe mid, but not over priced, this is your place.

We have always enjoyed The Boathouse before Lockdown and decided to go again as our first meal out since last summer. We went for lunch and it didn't disappoint. Lovely table with a view of the Water Park, excellent friendly and professional service, delicious, well served food, I had fish and chips and he had steak. A massive thank you to the manager and staff for the great discount with a hot drink for us all on Saturday 10th April. We are a team of district nurses who did a 10 mile walk in terrible weather we were wet and cold so it was very much appreciated to have that much needed hot drink half way through. I had a take away lunch on Sunday. It was excellent. I particularly liked the large variety of vegetables, bit of a change from Deckers where you generally only got peas!! The Yorkshire pud was so big it didn't fit in the container with the meal in! I can't praise it enough. I have had meals here in the good old days - pre COVID, and have always been impressed with the service and food quality (and quantity). I have always recommended this restaurant to friends and family and will continue to do so.

We had lunch here on a Sunday afternoon (4 of us). It was a really nice meal (2 of us had the roast beef dinner and 2 of us had cheese & onion pie, chips & peas). A friend choice The Boat House and I wasn't looking forward to it as in the past I have been disappointed..side salad boring and main meal so so...this time completely different ..no salad to be concerned about ...but was I surprised with the main course ...excellent ..I choice the fish dish..the whole meal was perfect.. and vegetables .. I thanked the chef personally because I for one will return...good service, careful restrictions for our safety ..happy ending to the visit..I do suggest to try for yourselves ...

We have been coming here for years and they never disappoint. The food is really good, servers are friendly and social distancing measures are in place which mean that you can dine here comfortably whilst feeling safe. The restaurant is only open for food, whereas pre Covid 19 you could just pop in for a coffee etc. A one way system is in place and they encourage you to remain at your table and not mill about around the restaurant too much. A booking is always advisable as this restaurant as it is extremely popular.

Decided to come here to take advantage of the 'Eat out to help out' government scheme. Upon entering the restaurant was very busy and the line of people waiting to be seated was nearly to the stairs. A few customers in front of me had not booked but were not turned away instead they were told to wait near a small table at the bar. I had booked in advance but still had to wait about 20 mins or so for the manager (small man with an accent) to keep passing by saying 'I'll be with you in 2 minutes' at one point he even answered the phone on the front desk rather than speaking to us.If you cant stagger the bookings properly rather than trying to fit everyone in regardless of whether they have booked or not what is the point in taking bookings? Is it really worth risking social distancing during the current pandemic and the members of your team that are clearly running around trying to keep on top of an already very busy restaurant (you don't need to reply).I have visited this restaurant before and it was lovely, the food is amazing (not pub grub) and the views are stunning if you don't look at the spiders (I know this is no fault of the restaurant but due to the location).We ordered a mix grill which was massive and cooked to perfection, 2 children's meals and an early diner meal. All were spot on! My hat goes off to the chefs that are still able to deliver on quality food and speed so that you not waiting ages on actually getting your meal even when stretched with over bookings / customer walk-ins and a demanding manager that kept bringing more and more people into the restaurant. The waitresses and bar staff are also multi tasking as well trying to keep on top of all the customers.We finished off the meal with some desserts from the 'specials board' which you can tell are home made and not bought in which I have found to be the case at many other restaurants trying to pass off what would have been a Costco fudge cake as their own.Yes when the bill arrive it was considerably cheaper than our usual visit but I have to say cramming in customers constantly that affects both the kitchen and the front of house staff is not good. Its clearly visual to see that these areas are desperately trying to keep up with the demands of the management and the government scheme on offer this month.There is reduced tables and Covid19 measures in place for things like the toilets, one way system, etc.I would come back as the overall experience was good and the food is by far the best around. But please do not ask me to contact you to discuss some of the down points of this visit, this is as I have said an 'Honest Review'

Love the food in the restaurant upstairs but thought we would sit outside today. Found a lovely table in the shade with excellent social distancing. We ordered a ham salad, burger and chips and tuna mayo sandwich and chips. The food arrived brilliantly packaged in boxes, so very safe. My friend loved her burger and chips and ate half of mine as well. They are to die for. So lovely. The tuna sandwich I couldn't find any tuna and the bread was dry. The salad consisted of a few leaves, 1 cherry tomato and 1 piece of cucumber. Very disappointing compared to upstairs especially as it was my friends birthday.

We visited on the Monday as the eat out to help out scheme started. Very very well organised and COVID-19 regulations followed, as its quite big it didn't feel busy although most tables were occipied and socialy distanced. The staff were brilliant, very polite and actually looked happy to be there! Had a nice chat with possibly the manager (male, 40s with slight accent) he took our order and was very informative. The food was outstanding and we will definitely be back. Well done the boathouse

We went there to celebrate my daughter's christening and I couldn't imagine anything better than going here. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The food was amazing for a reasonable price. I've been there a few times and definitely be back again.

This was my first time at the Boathouse and I have to say the food was really good.I had the haddock and chips which was lightly battered and very tasty .Friendly staff, reasonable prices, nothing I can fault.The menu is simple as in the usual suspects steak, gammon, lasagne etc. For me that’s fine as I prefer plain and simple food although it has to be hot and well cooked which it was . My husband had the Bakewell tart with custard which he said was lovely.

Fish and Chips with a pint of Boddingtons in the new open air lakeside restaurant was as near perfect as could be. the fish was very good with the batter nice and crisp and the chips were crisp on the outside and soft in the middle as chips should be. A post-prandial walk around the lake rounded everything off a treat!!

Celebrating a birthday from May! Cheers to the end of lockdown!An excellent meal for 5, up to its normal standard, never been disappointed yet - we have been going since it opened!!Pleasant and helpful staff, attentive and adhering to Covid rules, we felt very safe with more room and one way systems, the windows were open to give some lovely fresh air!!!Good luck with future business with your reduced capacity, thanks again

We’ve been for a lovely lunch today (04.07.20) on the first day of reopening.Everything was as brilliant as always,we felt very safe.The food is great,portion sizes generous and the staff are second to none;so friendly and can’t do enough for you.If you have reservations about getting out and about again,give The Boathouse a try as your first point of call and you won’t be sorry.Thanks again to all of the fabulous staff who are working so hard to make customers’ experience enjoyable in our ‘new normal’ world.

My family and I have just had a fantastic meal at The Boathouse: We had a range of different dishes from hake to Chicken burgers and they were all superb. The service was fantastic and Alister, the proprietor ,was very welcoming and attentive. We felt extremely safe and everything felt Covid -19 secuure.

I'm really not sure why the boathouse has gone so far downhill, we've eaten here for years and never had any problems,but today was a complete sham, inedible, cold food to extremely rude, vile staff especially the one with blonde hair whose name is a@#$e,yes you know who you are,we asked to speak to a manager who was equally as rude and disinterested, after 20 plus years we will never return unless they make serious changes, we would have usually spent around 1300.00 a year in this restaurant but will be giving our hard earned cash to Alberts in didsbury, and before management comment, we chose not to review this at the time as we were far too upset and angry to give a fair review.

After another enjoyable visit to The Boathouse, I am pleased to say the choice and quality of food is always first class, The staff work hard serving you along with making sure you have everything you need during your meal, They work hard as a team leaving no customers waiting to be served, the restaurant is well worth a visit, along with family or just an enjoyable meal out with friends..

A large group of us arranged a meal. The setting is lovely with the watermark and surrounds. The upstairs seating in the restaurant provides lots of space. The service was not particularly friendly. The menu choices consisted of generic grub. The food itself was not very nice and I doubt it was all cooked fresh on the premises. It wasn’t good value for money.

I was a little disappointed in the menu and my meal wasn't particularly good. Some of the service was okay but I wouldn't rave about the place.Not particularly good for disabled people. There is a lift. but. it is situated at the back of the building and not near the car park.
