Amazing pub with great food and drinks! The view from the terrace outside is wonderful as it is the atmosphere inside with the fireplace! Strongly reccomended. Suitable for groups too.

Food is always delicious, and the daytime views are really spectacular, especially for birdwatching. Service is sometimes a bit slow, but then the place is surprisingly large, and staff is always helpful. Great for large groups if planned in advance. Main thing to be aware of is that they don't accept Amex, which almost left us without a way to pay one day when we didn't have the right cards with us.

This pub is in a very good location, overlooking the coastal marshes. The menu is decent but most items are very expensive (even by current standards). Dishes vary somewhat in size, unpredictably. Pies dont all have a pastry base and some have soggy bases, which was rather unfortunate. Good choice of desserts, which were quite substantial. Decent strong coffee. All enjoyed Very popular so do book ahead. Large carpark

Went here today. Order the mushroom starter was very nice. Mistake I made was the steak and ale pie. The lid was undercooked and slimey underneath and no pastry to the underside is it a pie? My opinion no. Inside resembled more of a stew that wasn't seasoned very well. The mash was dry and tasteless. And although it says tenderstem brocoli you actually just get brocoli. What was worse still on a terrible table after food served no follow up to check quality so had no chance to explain the gripes. And after meal my friend who paid as i have just done her a favour was told the price but no thank you or even eye contact. So terrible experience nice starter pie I would suggest you swerve and bar staff no tip not a large suprise there

Been two weekends on the run. The very best speedy service, never had to wait too long for a team member, food or drink. Had the roast sharer both times and it was excellent. Not a criticism at all but in hindsight, the duo of meats would be better as we ended up taking the half chicken away with us both times as there's already plenty to share. Weather was terrible both times but it still feels cosy and a great dining experience. Highly recommend, especially after walking in to the chain pub carvery down the road. World's apart. Go to the boathouse!

We had been walking from Neston to Heswall and this was the ideal stop for lunch as I know it very well as I've been coming here for many years and always enjoyed the food and drink here. This pub has a large advantage over all the other pubs in Parkgate as it's built on the seawall side of the road so the stunning views across the marshes to North Wales are completely uninterrupted. You get a choice of menus when you get there, there's the large main menu and the smaller lunch menu that represents very good value for money. Today on the lunch menu I tried out the Pate for Starters and the seafood basket for mains. Both are recommended. They also had a good selection of beers and ales. Service was excellent as always. There is plenty of space in the carpark opposite, but remember to type in your registration number at the bar

I wanted to take my 93 year old mum out for Sunday lunch as she has recently moved into a care home. When I booked a table, I asked for one which had step-free access and ideally one with a view over the estuary. The table was brilliant - step free and great views. The food was excellent. Quality ingredients, cooked to perfection and presented well on piping hot plates too. Service was great. The team were smartly dressed, very polite, friendly and attentive. Been several times and love the setting. And food is usually great. This time the food was mixed; two good meals but two of us chose salads and they were disappointing; the menu description sounded good but basically they were little more than green salads with a tiny piece of sea bream. Not great value at £18. Will definitely continue visiting but not chose a salad.

We visited on Tuesday for an early tea. Family of 5 2 adults and 3 children. Husband and I ordered from the price fixe menu. Husband ordered the ham and chips and I ordered the scampi but the chips served with these meals were cold and tasteless..my husbands ham was dry and not as described the menu described this as being treacle baked ham but was more mediocre thin piece of tasteless ham no flavour of treacle or sugar as described. For the Kids we ordered fish and chips and these were actually nice the kids meal was served with fries and much nicer than the chips served with the adult meals. As we ordered from price fixe menu I ordered a stater. my husband asked to order dessert following his main and was given al a carte menus to choose from. The bill came and we were charged for the dessert which wasn’t part of price fixe menu this wasn’t clearly communicated when we finished our mains and my husband ordered his and kids dessert. When the bill arrived I questioned this there was ‘nothing’ they could do about it. I think it was unfortunate case of communication between staff but no apology or refund for the crumble dessert which was £7.95. I e-mailed the venue about our experience and was told a refund for the dessert could not be actioned as we paid for the kids food and price fixe meal before the food arrived. We paid for the food before as we were invited to do so when we placed the order. Think this is a poor excuse to rectify a miscommunication/error. Disappointing meal..lovely view shame about the food and management.

The location overlooking the estuary persuaded us to have an evening meal at the boathouse. Unfortunately the seam bream was over cooked and therefore dry whilst the risotto was over cooked and soggy. The waitress was hugely apologetic and arranged a 20% discount on that course- hardly overgenerous in our view. That said the ambience at the boathouse is lovely and we shall no doubt return, but only for a drink!

Whole staying in the Wirral in June I met up with some relatives on two occasions for lunch at the Boathouse. It does have a special lunch menu with two courses for a set price but I opted for the sandwiches which are mostly still under £10 which is good value nowadays. There is a good choice. The service was very attentive and speedy. One thing I should mention I noticed the dinner menu now has three dishes containing cheese for some reason and I don't eat cheese. This would have diminished my choice if had visited for dinner.

I was taken as a guest to the ‘Boathouse’ to celebrate a friend’s 80th. I am a vegan, my friend was told beforehand that there were vegan options. We were given menu’s and I asked the young waiter if there was a vegan menu, he said he didn’t know and would check. I waited for 10 minutes, the waiter was in and out but didn’t get back to me. I didn’t want to cause discomfort to the rest of the table so i got up to ask him about a menu, he said the vegan options were on the main menu. The vegan options:- Hummus Vegan Tagine Tart Green salad. So, in reality, no option. The hummus starter, £5.95 really underwhelming. The tagine tart, pastry beautiful, content/flavour of tart and tomato sauce edible. There were a few discoloured semi squashed new potatoes underneath the tart. Has anyone in the kitchen tasted what’s being served? I was disappointed to say the least.

We used to lunch at The Boathouse reasonably frequently in years previously, however a rise in the number of other establishments locally meant it had slipped down our list; mainly because we felt we were not in the elderly demographic that it normally seemed to cater for. We went last Friday for our normal Friday lunch. Starters were the mac'n'cheese and pulled brisket and garlic fritter. They were delivered very quickly, which led us to believe they were "chicken ping" the fritters in particular were very dry and the the dip could not accommodate. The mac'n'cheese was tasty but very very oily. SWMBO raised the issue with the fritters and they were removed from the bill. Main were pretty good and the chunk of fish I had was excellent as it definitely was not a "Findus". The wait staff very very good, although the speed with which the fritters were removed from the bill makes me believe we were not the first to pass comment. A shame really as the menu itself looks good with a number of dishes we'd like to try, but the execution needs improvement.
