The Boat Inn Restaurant in Aberdeenshire

My other half booked B&B for one night, just for the hell of it. I’ve given our stay a 5 ⭐️ review. The setting is lovely, service was excellent, plenty of staff, they were all lovely & very attentive, we also had dinner, the menu is not extensive but the choice was fine and the food when it arrived was excellent, clearly all home made & delicious, the biggest fish & chips I think we have ever seen! 😆 Our room was very snug, barely enough space to walk around the bed, there were tea & coffee facilities in the room but the funky lighting made it a bit difficult to get to the tea tray easily, no chairs, only the bed to sit on and the en suite had a sliding door, which I feel always indicates space is tight. The bathrooom was small but modern, clean and the shower was full sized, the towels were big, soft and luxurious, what more do you need. There were the usual hotel noises from other guests, we could hear those above us walking about, water running, etc. I think we were just jealous because 3 steps and we were in our en suite, 2 steps to the door, no opportunity to move about. 😂 However, come night time we slept really well, not a single noise before 7:30ish and no sound from outside or cars at all. All in all 5 ⭐️ are deserved, despite the small room, we don’t stay somewhere to sit in our room and the service, staff and food were all faultless. Would we stay again -absolutely.

Mais qui s'est avéré être un cauchemar. Les murs sont très fins. De plus, les réservations de chambre ne vous donnent pas droit à un dîner au restaurant. Vous rejoignez le fond de la file d'attente si vous n'avez pas lu les petits caractères et réservé le dîner séparément. Trop de moments Monty Python pour y croire. C'est le seul spectacle en ville malheureusement. Alors, accepte-le, mon petit.

Disappointed with my visit to the Boat Inn this time. Normally everything is good but when visiting this time with friends was unhappy with our steak and haggis pie. Portions were significantly poorer than advertised and wasn’t served as traditionally expected.

We live locally and had taken my parents on a road trip to experience Scotland. Finishing off with a meal at the Boat Inn, the day couldn't have ended better! The service was welcoming and attentive, the ambiance homely, and the food absolutely outstanding! I had the chickpea burger, both my parents the hake, and my husband the chicken pie. The bowls of seasonal vegetables deserve special mention: it's unusual to see a restaurant taking the trouble to make this taste and look so good. I think it was a mixture of spinach, leek, cucumber and peas. We also loved the model train that went all around the walls near the ceiling! My husband and I will definitely come back here for lunch on our bike rides.

I had the shed burger- it was truly delicious and massive (had to attack it with knife and fork). I'm a bit fussy about burgers and this one was among the absolute best. Red cabbage coleslaw served with it was perfect.

Excellent fresh food, very tasty fish and fish. Good cocktails. Nice staff. Really only positive points here. Cute décor between typical and fun.

Family dinner in the back bar. Very nice eating area with friendly staff. Dogs are allowed and well catered for with blankets and snacks. Food is also very good. I had the burger and would highly recommend. Good for kids too.

A party of 9 of us stayed here for a couple of nights as part of a theatre tour. One of the best independent hotels we've stayed in. Excellent service, each room a luxury standard, bed linen. towels and toilets were all quality. The annex rooms at the back are specious and also have the same quality and standard of finish. Staff and the manager were all very helpful, food was delicious, one of the best breakfast of our tour. The train overhead is a little fun addition to the pub, restaurant area. Thanks for the use of your printer. When we're next in the area with the opera we will definitely stay again.

The Boat Inn is a lesson in faultless bar dining! We were a family of eight, including our two year old granddaughter, and the experience overall was great - very friendly and efficient staff, great buzzy atmosphere, high quality food and good value. Thoroughly recommend!

Unwelcoming, my friend has just moved to Aboyne so we decide fed to walk over and try the bar. The one local in the bar was singularly unwelcoming and rude. We asked if we were in the bar or the restaurant, he said restaurant and sent us through the corridor- to the restaurant. We went back to the bar where he sneered at us . We had one drink and left. Won’t be back

The food is incredible, I have been there for tea and lunch a lot, great quality food made with local ingredients. They have many meals from salads, to hoard or share boards, to burgers and more. Desserts are also delicious. Drinks are amazing. This place is the best food place I know.

Pub/hotel with restaurant and bar for more casual dining. Open for breakfast through dinner and doesn’t disappoint. Has upped its game over the years with good service/good food. Lacks a “front of house” character to welcome returning guests, but all staff pleasant enough. Maybe starting to get a little above itself with its pricing. It’s good, but not that good.

We stayed one night and had an absolutely lovely time. Dinner was delicious, the service was top notch and we were able to order from a menu for breakfast. Our room was beautiful and spacious. The location is wonderful. I loved it here.

We stayed here at this very busy pub/restaurant for 2 nights on our Scottish tour. We had a room at the front, overlooking the River Dee, decorated in dark blue with a nautical feel. Very comfortable bed, lots of cushions and a woollen throw for those cold nights. The room was serviced with fresh towels, bed made & tea bags etc renewed. We had to book a table in the restaurant for each evening. Meals were huge, and cooked perfectly with plenty of choices. Breakfast was also served in the restaurant, all table service. Very nicely done. The main bar was constantly busy, with locals, walkers, tourists etc. most likely because it's the only pub for miles around. Excellent wi-fi reception. There is a car park behind the pub, with street parking also available. There are three charging points for electric vehicles, which we took advantage of. Aboyne is a perfect location to visit Ballater, Balmoral, Crathie and the surrounding area.

We are local. It’s always been costly , with chaotic staff -but we knew that . Last week we decided to try again. Most of the staff were much more mature , attentive . Portion sizes minuscule and zero garnish . A female waitperson challenged me on why I had not eaten the sesame slaw and brioche bun. I said the slaw was off , as the sesame oil was stale .She argued that I was wrong and why I didn’t eat my roll . Don’t like brioche ! I reinforced that I didn’t want money off , just stating that the slaw was off. It was hideous. So it was again mediocre and never fails to disappoint. Never again.

Served by a very young server, in fact they were all very young and when not working they were all standing around at the entrance chatting. I hadn’t even finished my starter when my main arrived. The guy next to me was complaining about his dinner, very poor response from the waiter/Server. I expected a better choice of food, my choice was ok but that’s about it. I wouldn’t eat there again.

Gezellig, cosy hotel met attente medewerkers. Kamers kunnen wat gehorig zijn als je op de bovenverdieping slaapt maar gelukkig houdt iedereen zich aan de reguliere slaaptijden. Handige ligging als je op doorreis bent naar de highlands.

Not recommend if gluten free, meal sizes are too small, often a result of gluten containing items being removed from the meal.

Always our favourite place for lunch as a family! A great menu with lots to choose from. Delicious food, cosy country pub atmosphere and friendly helpful staff make this a fantastic place to eat out.

Two evenings spent here, enjoying first class cuisine (special: beef koftas with fennel rice was fabulous! Also enjoyed huge Shed Burger - with GF bun - , and haddock and chips. Desserts were yummy: sticky toffee pudding, and have to recommend the indulgent Highland Affogato 🤩). VERY dog friendly - all the staff came and said, hello, to our little dog, water and dog treats “on tap”, and looking after us - with mobility issues as well as dog - was their priority. Thank you so much to Ellie, Nicole and all the team. 😃

After being let down by the Indian we had booked we ventured to the Boat Inn. A lovely friendly place with good service and a fairly concise but interesting menu. I chose the chicken burger, which was delicious and my hubby had the vegetable curry, again delicious. We’d definitely recommend and will certainly visit again, when next in the area.

We recently had an early dinner before going to the Academy for an event which was part of the Aboyne Festival. Our food was good, and the service good, but we really do wish there would be some new choices added to the menu. I'm aware there is really nowhere else to eat dinner in Aboyne, so perhaps there is a degree of complacency at the Boat Inn. Hope to see some new options on the menu on our next visit in September.

Really comfortable overnight stay with dinner and breakfast at the Boat Inn. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was good. Appreciated the choice of grilled haddock rather than batter - fish was beautifully cooked. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful- granola, yoghurt and honey followed by mushrooms, spinach and poached egg. Good coffee (decaf). Room 16 was very compact but contained everything you need. Most important, the bed was great - comfortable and not too soft. Shower room was very well designed with good power shower and plenty of space ( some hooks on the wall by the shower and by the sink for your towels would have made it perfect).

The food was not bad the service was a bit slow but it was not the worst restaurant I’ve been to overall I’d give it 3 stars

First class service and the friendliness of the staff make this a really great place to stay on Royal Deeside. The food is lovely and they make the most of our stay by doing lots of things local - great recommendations from the staff

Beautiful country Inn on the edge of the River Dee in the village of Aboyne. Excellent friendly service and great menu choices for all (vegans too), outdoor seating and inside features the wee train running round and lovely log fire for cosy winter evenings.

Fabulous all round - servers are all very friendly and professional, service was very quick and the food superb. Within minutes of arriving our drinks arrived, order taken for food with starters delivered with 15 minutes then the delicious mains. 10/10 from everyone at our table.
