I've only been after enjoying foodie Friday in the market. But it's always been full with a nice atmosphere. Service at the bar is efficient. As with all Sam Smith's pubs, they only offer their own range of drinks, but the range covers most bases, so is likely to have something for most.

I just went in there for a few drinks with a friend I haven't seen in a long time. While I was showing my friend some video from work - disturbing nobody around - this guy approaches me to say it's written on the coasters and everywhere that "it's a digital free zone" and I can't use my phone (?!!!) I get it you want to keep a "traditional" pub with worn-out furniture and carpets from the 1900s for the elderly locals who enjoy it that way. But telling people they can't use their phones - in the XXIst century!!! is simply a joke. What will you do when your regulars - who probably can't use a smart phone/ laptop and therefore hate technology - will naturally expire?!

Difficult Friday’ all you want is to relax like normal people, when you work on high demand in the public. Hence my husband decided to take me to this bar. Got to the counter while I get ready to pay with my apple phone. I got told off that I shouldn’t be using my phone. Errrrr how I am suppose to pay when I carried apple?. The old lady was abrupt. She said are doing Video I replied NO! Then she said you need to put your phone in your bag.! Tbh I’m British but look Asian. But it was pure racism as I saw other people had their phone in their hand. If your are slightly oriental looking … Avoid as you are not welcome … at all sadly.

Not taken by the digital detox policy. I get that it’s nice to put down your phone once in awhile but too aggressively ban people from using a laptop doesn’t seem that inclusive. I was there to do a bit of work on a Tuesday and felt really unwelcome

I usually drink lagers rheinbacher from aldi , carlsberg , Stella usually 4-5% not carling/fosters. Had a pint of taddys this is £3.40 a pint, really tasty, you can have 8 pints and not have a bad head next day, it gets bust during foody friday(last Friday of every month) toilets are a fair trek downstairs but nothing like a wetherspoons. Always make a beeline there when I'm nearby. ( there used to be a cat in there but sadly died a few yrs ago)

Just went in by myself. Everywhere was busy getting ready for Foodie Friday. Went in to a corner to wait for my wife. Got told to put my phone away. Me, a 38 year old being told what I can and can’t do. I saw a sign when I sat down, thought it was one of those jokey ones like when I was in Cornwall. Nope, someone told me, while I was sat around no one, not to check my phone. I asked if they were serious, they were. Didn’t even taste my pint. Put it back on the bar and left. Went elsewhere. Worse pub I have ever been in and I all did was order a pint and see if my wife texted me.

Well kept beer as it always is and although a bit on the very cold side when we arrived it improved as the afternoon went on. At £3 a pint it is virtually half the price of some of the local pubs. Visited for the first time with my hubby early yesterday evening, what a fantastic homely pub this is. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel really welcome by the bar staff, we enquired whether food was being served and they happily confirmed they did from 5pm. We ordered a couple of drinks initially before finding a nice room to the left side of the bar with a welcoming real fire before sitting down to take in the great atmosphere. We loved the fact there was no music or tech devices allowed just good old conversation. We sampled a couple of meals from the menu with such a varied selection on offer, I had the Steak & Ale pie, Mash, seasonal Vegetables with Gravy and hubby sampled the Chilli, Rice, Garlic Bread and a side order of Chips. The food was spot on proper homemade mash and Chips (just like your mum used to make them), dessert was the Sticky Toffee Pudding and Apple Crumble, Custard (with a huge jug of extra Custard). All I can say is 'The Boars Head', Stockport is an absolute gem of a place, keep doing what your doing thanks to all the ladies who served us during our visit we'll definately be back. Mel & Steve Marsden 🍻🍽😉👍🏻

This Samuel Smith is a proper traditional pub and like all pubs should be. They don't play music, don't allow phones, messages etc basically it's a pub where you can chat and not have the disturbance of modern day technology. It's a very very old pub but the ales. Ipa's and their selection of Sammy Smiths whiskies and port etc are amazing. I highly recommend visiting and soak in the atmosphere. Me and my mate spoke to the lovely landlady who was sadly finishing after being there for 13 years. It was a great pleasure to have met her and chatted and wish her all the very best. We will be back without a doubt. Well worth a visit if you want a pub that is traditional.
