Whittakers Fish Bar in Stockport

Without doubt the best Fish and Chip shop for miles. The staff are always polite, it's clean and tidy inside and serving excellent food, great portion sizes and reasonable prices. It's the only Fish and Chip shop to come close to Kongs in Hyde which closed in 2024

Recommend!! Takeaway, download the app, better pricing and fast delivery. We are staying local at a hotel, got delivery to the hotel and the service was fantastic. Food was also top notch, we ordered the jumbo fish and large chips, king prawns in batter with sides, all were cooked perfectly. If we are ever in the area again we will use but if you’re visiting we recommend this place. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

App has changed but sorted order ok, the food arrived late after 2 phone calls from the delivery driver and me going out into the street to guide him in so food was cold had to reheat in the oven

I’ve been going to a fish and chip shop on this site since the 60s I don’t know whether it was always Whitaker or not. I come from Davenport to Cheadle Hulme simply because of their fish I thought I’d try the curry. That was a bad mistake, probably the worst I’ve ever experienced, a glop of flour and spice that had almost set by the time I got it back home You’re better than that Whittakers get it changed

Unusually the delivery was some 40 minutes than expected. The fish and the chips were neither as hot as usual nor as tasty. Hopefully this is just a one off happening.

I'm afraid the chips were not nice,they were quite clearly refried! If your paying a premium price and delivery,you expect it to be fresh! It's normally very nice but tonight was a letdown and most of it went in the bin!

We pick and get delivery. The food os always hot and cooked fresh. Delivery is usually within the time stated and the staff are really friendly and efficient in the shop. A trusted name in Cheadle Hulme and the best fish and chips in my opinion.

First time ordering online for delivery. Easy process and time expected to deliver was given which was spot on! Food hot and as ordered. Particularly like the fact you can order Gluten free on line - tasted lovely.

Food was cold, delivery was a long time.

Usually the fish is of a consistent high standard and I would rate as 5 and we don't go anywhere else, but on Wednesday my haddock was tough to chew, as was my daughter in laws. The order was expected at 6.45 and at 7.00 I had to call to chase up, our food arrived at 7.20.

ordered three cods and a couple portions of chips with mushy peas for me and my family, food was absolutely amazing. the cod was so delicious and the batter was nice and crispy, and not heavy. the chips were tasty as well as the mushy peas. overall, the food wasn’t too greasy and was excellent. will be ordering again, thank you!

Waited an extremely long time for the food to be delivered. Rang to enquire where it was after 20 mins beyond the delivery time. They delivered to a house 2 doors away yet sent separate drivers! We’re regular customers and have been disappointed tonight. The food wasn’t that hot either. Luckily the food was still delicious. I really hope they take this feedback onboard and improve for next time

I brought this up to them in a nice manner and was repeatedly told “we have a lot of gluten free customers and they’ve never complained” then the manager was consulted, who only rolled his eyes and huffed and puffed. Luckily there was a lovely gentleman that said his wife was coeliac and completely understood what i was pointing out and told me it was great that i flagged it. I asked for a full refund which they gave, so as much as they didn’t take ownership, they gave me a full refund? so they must have realised they were at fault… i hope. Would be okay if it was a dietary choice but not suitable for coeliacs unfortunately due to the cross contamination!

Any time I order from Whittakers fish bar the food is always delicious. The gluten free options are amazing and do not feel like a compromise. Highly recommend if you love good quality traditional fish and chips.

I can't recommend Whittakers highly enough. Not only do they have excellent food, their service is above and beyond my expectations. The main road in my village was closed due to an accident but this didn't stop them delivering our meal. The driver parked his car a distance away and walked the rest of the way to our house with our meal. Thank you ever so much and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

The new video menu is awful. It takes ages to load and doesn’t load everything. Please change the layout to stop disappearing and have it all on display at once.

Fish, chips, spicy curry and peas. Fish was great chips ok but something missing. Peas and curry good. Not my local but gave it a try.

Always great food. Safe for coeliacs with a good knowledge of cross contamination, separate fryers. Speedy delivery. Would definitely recommend.

Ordered a jumbo fish its exactly the same size as a normal fish but almost twice the price and it came in paper that was stuck to the fish 100% of the batter was stuck to it so it was basically inedible
