The Boardwalk Bar & Grill in Tendring

Just stopped for coffee, so I can't say a lot about the food. While waiting at the bar, I got the impression that the drinks were quite expensive, which provided to be the case with the coffees. Not being a big drinker can say I'm an expert on the price of beer. Nice location, though.

Very over priced food for what it was worth . Cheese and onion panini had no flavor, burger meat tasted odd, served on disposable card plates even when eating inside.

The atmospehere is nice but the staff arent very good, we ordered drinks via the QR code on the table and the 2 female bartenders were too busy chatting to some old man just outside the bar that they didnt even realise that the orders came through, they just wanted to sit down and chat to the man whilst the young male employee was in the lavatory, once he returned, he immediately saw the orders and made them and brung them over to us, but the 2 old ladies were useless, very bad impression in my opinion

Popped in randomly and the place was very quiet, shocking as it’s so lovely in there! We played darts for an hour at £10, was very enjoyable. The lady behind the bar showed us how to work it as we had never done it before was super helpful and came over to check on us. Such friendly service, even the security were jolly and friendly! Thank you for a lovely evening. If we were local to this area this place would defo be our local!

We had lunch here, the food arrived quickly and was nice enough. I had a Dr Pepper however it had no flavour and so my partner took it back to the bar suggesting the syrup had ran out (as he has experience working in bars and kitchens). They gave him another small glass to try and he told them it tasted the same so they said they would check and bring another. After 5 minutes they returned with another glass, told us the syrup was fine and that it was the ice. I tasted it whilst they awkwardly stared at me and it was gross, I get anxious so told them it was fine and to be honest I had had enough by then. I just shared my partners drink so I could eat my food before it went cold. Then we played AR darts. This was extremely enjoyable and only £10 for an hour which is cheaper than many other places by a large amount. We had such a good time and each ‘lane’ was closed off enough to feel private and enjoyable. I’m the type of person that doesn’t want to feel watched - especially doing something i’m not very good at😂

Haven't eaten here yet, but bar service really good, atmosphere great and they had live music and the guy on his guitar was awesome. Cool place. Xxx when the weather's good it's the place to sit outside and drink and soak up the music. Xx

First time last week and keep going back. Place is immaculate, staff warm and welcoming, price for breakfast incredibly reasonable, speed of service great, quality of breakfast (cooked by Denise) 10/10 everytime and size of meal no complaints. I went in on crutches and staff made sure I didn't have to do anything. 100% recommend .

Absolute joke to be told 6pm they are closed no wonder you never have customers because your never open normal pub hours

Decided as a sligtly larger group than they had expected to try out the new breakfast menu. Some members of the group had a good experience , with the eggs of toast being a big hit, although I didn't. The food took to long to arrive, and when it did there was no apology from the staff, which I think is common courtesy in a hospitality setting. The food was OK, although the bacon was hard and inedible. We were a group of about 20, and I expected a wait, but the customer service was shocking. It was as we had put them out, how dare a big group had come in and made them busy. The waitress said, if we let them no the day before they could have pre cooked some of the food ready. We actually try out different cafe's and eateries weekly and other places seem to cope OK. I certainly won't be returning for breakfast again. I also think the tea and coffee is overpriced, especially as I had finished my tea, half hour before my breakfast had actually arrived. Tea costs £2.55 and a flat white coffee was £3.15. My brother did go up and complain about it and they gave us a free tea and coffee which was something I suppose. I think as a small group the food would be good, but that just wasn't my experience this morning.

The burgers are the best option, plenty of fries. We had the Hot and Smokey burger. The chicken wrap was a bit light on the amount of chicken. The soft drinks came in bottles with straws, no glasses? No doubt saving on washing up for the environment. Ordering was via a QR code link, the were quick, efficient, and friendly. They also had an interesting Interactive Darts setup.

Barmaids are friendly remember people they busy as hell so hats off ladies and lil blonde one is a diamond put up with my constant orders thank you guys plus the music the actual live bands daily wow great place to chill and enjoy the day good security not that was needed but they are there peace of mind if family day out 😊

Attended Boardwalk bar and grill on Sunday and experienced some of the poorest levels of service I’ve had in a long time. The bar area is huge. Despite this, they had a queue (who makes a queue at a bar??) snaking out of the door and only two members of staff serving on a busy July Sunday?!! There was no urgency from the staff and it was painfully slow service. It appeared to lack management and organisation resulting in customers receiving very poor service. We did eventually get served and staff seemed friendly and polite. Not there fault. Management need to Listen to feedback, support their staff and sort out the poor service levels. This place has serious competition, with two pubs directly opposite it, one being a Wetherspoon! So you would think it was in its interests to get it operation spot on. Clearly not. Won’t be going in there again.

They are going through a renovation, but they still were serving food even though you had to sit outside but it was enjoyable

Absolutely brilliant in every aspect. Me and my partner Sam popped in and the staff were bubbly and friendly. I got a burger and it was 1 of the best I’ve had in Clacton. The portions were massive and the price wasn’t too bad plus the chef was also very friendly and warming. We 100% will be going back.

Quick and friendly service. Food good and good portions downside the toilets need an overhaul or at least a good deep clean. One basin weren't working, no out of order sign on it and pee and blood on seats... just grosss!

Clean and tidy with plenty of seating indoors and outdoors and really friendly staff 😀

We wanted a cream tea and were offered a choice of lovely home made cakes. Victoria sponge and a lovely chocolate cake with tea in the lovely outside space. Definitely won t be last time we visit.

Waited 15 minutes to be told an hour wait for food even though it wasn't busy. Old food laying on tables looked like hardly anything had been eaten so probaly for the best anyway.

Ordered jacket potatoes and drinks for myself and family members. Good itself was OK but on the pricey side but what let it down was the rude member of staff that served us. She came to the table and didn't say a single word each time no thank you or hello from her. We felt quite unwelcome here so shall not be returning.

Nice bar out on the pier, outside seating area is lovely, they even had a live singer when I was there. Really nice atmosphere!

Only ordered cheesy chips and a beer. Food and drink were nice. Staff were rude and on phone whilst serving. Music was stupidly loud for a Thursday lunch time.

Probably the best place to go if you want great service and food. We ordered the food and 15 minutes later all of the food came out once it was so fast it caught us off guard. The waitress I think her name was Sammy. She was a absolute delight, fulfilling each and every weird request of ours and did it with a constant smile on her face. Overall this place is going to be a repeated visit when we come to Clacton. I couldn't recommend it enough

Great bank holiday trip to the pier, with great food at the boardwalk bar and grill. Just scan the QR code on your table, order your food and drinks, piping hot food arrived within 20 mins, and that was with a packed house, on a bank holiday weekend. There was live music supplied, which my granddaughter loved dancing to, and as an extra bonus we had a grandstand view of the red arrows when they flew over. Great service and a great day out.

Sat down, used the QR code and within a couple of minutes all our drinks arrived. A moment later they came over to inform us they were out of a particular order and refunded us in cash. The food also arrived within 10 minutes and tasted great. Nice and hot, well presented and not bad pricing for the location. Would certainly come here again.

The food was awful the fish wasnt fresh it was the frozen type greasy and inedible the drinks came in Plastic cups waste of money the singer outside was the only upside.

Food was horrible, fish tasted raw and was greasy, didn't taste like real fish the chips where chewy and hard, only got 2 star because the singer was good

We weren't impressed with this place. It isn't very well managed, the chef came out to the bar & shouted at & pushed one of the staff members! This shouldn't happen anyway but he didn't seem to care that customers could see. It really upset my daughter. The food was mediocre anyway.

Trash. It took 2 hours to deliver the food and it was not worth it. I literally got hair in my food. the waitress said she could only carry 2 boxes of food but after 30 minutes the same waitress came back carrying 6 boxes of fish and chips. We had some other family over and theirs took even longer. Just dont go here.

Me and my 7 year old was refused service by Kerrie manager of the board walk today after paying and she refused to refund me after another member of staff took my order.

Every year we come on a holiday we always pop into this amazing place. The atmosphere is so welcoming, staff work extraordinarily hard to make you feel welcome, supported and ensure you have a great time. Furthermore, the food and drinks are made with great care (even if you have a special diet) and are always made quick, fresh and perfectly. They have a balance between having well-made food and not being overcooked. Thank you for all that you do. Amazing people, i wish them the best success in many years to come. We will keep popping by every year.

Went in at 7.55 but wasn't aware they stopped serving food at 8.00pm as when I went to the order counter the employee told me we could order food only through the app. So we ordered our food and drinks then a few minutes later the manager tells us we can't have the food as the cook has gone home but we could have our drinks and would be refunded for the order. But still no refund so 26 quid for a pint and glass of coke. Cheers 👍👍👍*********update********** Still no refund. I refuse to pay 26 quid for a pint and a coke. Refund or I will personally come and take my money back.. pi$$ takers

What an absolute joke. One hour to get some simple beans, sausage and chicken nuggets. When it came it was soft and tasteless. At least we know where not to go. Either change your chef or change your manager because one of the two haven't got a clue of the industry.

This business reccomended that if their app isn't working the customer should find another place to eat and drink. The only way to order is via their app, no table service available. Poor show from a seaside business to reccomend customers leave and use another business if the app isn't working.

Ordered food which still waiting after 2 hours. Completely unacceptable when got screaming starving kids. Constantly asked for updates which staff were uninformative. We understand current conditions but communication should be so much better. The sad thing is because of the location they will always get custom especially in hot hot weather. What a shame....sad customer

Food disappointing. Ordered a veggie burger which arrived in a cold stale bun, at least if it had been toasted it might have been slightly improved. The veggie burger was disgusting, soaked with grease obviously deep fried which made it inedible. Complained about the quality and was brushed off, would not give any refund. Children with me only ate their chips as their chicken nuggets were equally inedible. Would never eat here again and definitely never recommend.

I’m giving it a 3 stars for the singers and kids entertainment they were very good! I was going to eat in with around 7 of us but the was a young women in there with curly brown hair with very poor communication skills her attitude is so wrong she needs replacing! I won’t ever spend a penny there until she’s gone! Please reply to this thanks

Absolutely disgusting, in the height of this pandemic, there was no track and trace , no limiting of numbers , hygiene was a joke !!!!, I honesty felt unsafe , I left my drink , and got out as soon as i could!!, I live in clacton and to say that wetherspoons are doing a better job is saying something!!!

It's ok to pop in with the family and listen to some live music on the weekends. Normally has live football but if the singers on the footie will be turned down.

Friendly staff member that served me. Food bit expensive considering the quality. Quantity was good though.

I was stood with my disabled son at the bar and the manager was making fun of him. She was stood with another worker looking over at us and then whispering to the other worker - which they then both looked over and started bursting out laughing. Made us feel really unwelcome. Will not be coming back here.

This review relates to a one off when I was served a glass of horrible wine for £4.95, which according to management policy was impossible to change. I would have thought that in this day and age, customer service is paramount, but obviously not!

Came here twice both times the staff was rude and miserable food was very bad the place was dirty the toilets need to be cleaned the tables you have to clean your self

Staff seemed unhappy to be there, didnt crack a smile once. Food ok for the price. Asked for a bit of toast for my little boy (4) as he doesn't eat anything on the menu and was told, They cant do that! We didnt expect it for free but were told no anyway!

Entertainment for the children during the day, live music, friendly staff members and a reasonable prices for food and drink

Great live music on Sunday with Steve Richie. However, can you please ensure finished with meals are removed more quickly from the tables. Seagulls swarming around and diving at tables, with young children around is dangerous and off putting for all.

I know it gets very busy and normally at these times management fail their employees and customers by not having enough staff , but i have to say it was filthy there was two tables available, one, by a big open window that was covered in spilt drinks and just food everywhere not just on the tables but smeared on the chairs and all over the floor, and the other table big enough for four, was placed literally on top of the toilets, and a great big tv screen with football blasting out, the place just smelt of bad body odour, and toilet sewage, i can't comment on the food im afraid as we never got as far as the menu.

Difficult for me to rate this place. I only went once, on a bank holiday, to see a singer they had on who was very good. Had a couple of drinks. Very big, open place. A lot of ' beach/ seafront ' visitors in and out all the time for food or tea & coffee or a beer. Busy but not overcrowded. A couple of staff were always tidying up. The toilets were a little small for the number of people the place can accommodate and there was mostly a queue for the ladies but that may well be due to the place being right on the seafront. It's doing a service as a beachfront seaside resort eating or drinking place.I liked it well enough.

Food is obviously microwaved serving drinks in plastic cups not good when near a beach but can see why. Staff are friendly beer is good and prices are good too worth a visit if your on the pier and want a beer

STOP SERVING DRINKS IN PLASTIC CUPS ONLY FOR IGNORANT PEOPLE TO LITTER THE BEACH WITH THEM!. WHILE VISITING BACK IN MAY, I PICKED UP 2 HANDFULS OF CRUSHED PLASTIC CUPS WITHIN 1 SQUARE METRE OFF THE BEACH FROM THIS BAR. FUNNY HOW THE THE AVERAGE ADULT CAN'T USE THEIR ALCOHOL FUELLED BRAIN CELLS TO REALISE THE RISKS THIS WOULD CAUSE TO MARINE LIFE, YET MY 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO KNOWS THE IMPORTANCE OF BINNING RUBBISH WAS SO APPALLED BY THE AMOUNT OF THESE CUPS ON THE BEACH, AS WELL AS OTHER LITTER. STOP USING THESE CUPS IN YOUR ESTABLISHMENT AND MAKE DRINK ON YOUR PREMISES!!

Lived in clacton for 2 years and never been in here! Pleasantly surprised the food and drink was nice and had a live singer! Definitely will pop back here again. Relaxed and very friendly staff. #whynot!

Absolutely a shocking terrible place to go and have a drink...if there was an option to rate it zero stars then I would have. But it chilled my bones the fact I had to at least give it 1 star to leave a comment. The staff didn't want to be there that much, that on my last 2 visits they put their coats on and made us pour our drinks into plastic cups to illegally drink in the street. First time we were kicked out before 9pm then just now at 10pm. Such a joke when you get a taxi there to enjoy a night in a bar and the staff get bored and decide to go home. Never will I or anyone I know waste time going to this unwelcoming dungeon of depravity again.
