The most obnoxious landlord I think I’ve ever met (I’ve met a FEW!!) - the pub is nice in an old fashioned way but was quiet on a Saturday night we (five of us) turned up at 2200ish venturing out from the Crown and Mitre Hotel just up the road - had a pint nice and bonny then a switch was flicked in the manager ordered another at 1055 (no bell - was told it was last orders) I ordered mine and another of our group did but the other three weren’t allowed a pint even though we were all at the bar at the same time - turned the fruit machine off whilst I was playing it and was then abusive when I asked for it to be turned back on - didn’t get any money back! Bar staff were gracious and friendly though - apologised (under breath) Obviously a manager rather than a landlord and didn’t give a flying fig. Avoid at all costs. Do yourselves a favour and Don’t turn left out of the Crown and Mitre turn right and Try the Deja Vu on Botchergate(10minute walk down the precinct) - fantastic atmosphere in there! No wonder it’s so dead - doubt many locals would tolerate him!

Edited Review!! I guess that the Manager was Just having a Bad Day, last time I was there.... I took the bull by the horns and went back a 2nd time, ~I have added Stars and edited my first review of the Boardroom, a much better atmosphere than last time!! This must be a great pub for a few drinks, especially when the landlord is in a better mood!!

The staff were welcoming and friendly and were great with my little one. The food was absolutely perfect, couldn't fault it! The only bad point was that there was no high chairs for younger children which made things interesting 😅! Food is also only served between a select time (which would be helpful if I could remember those hours 😬😂) something like 12- 1.45 but helpfully it could be an hour before 😬😂. Definitley recommend for a drink and lunch!

Seems to be the ONLY pub left with any covid restrictions, lines taped on the floors, signs saying "masks to be worn" , screens around the bar, and a rude bar person shouting at us where to stand . I paid The Boardroom a visit as many of the restaurants in Carlisle are closed on a Monday and I needed a reasonably priced meal. Basically this is an old school pub near the cathedral with oak panelling and stained glass, which makes it quite attractive inside. Also with meals costing £ 6-7.50, this is quite cheap these days. However, the meals are nothing special, mostly being pie, chip and fish based, and the pub doesn't accept cards, so have your cash ready. Yet as a cheap eats, no frills dining experience, The Boardroom is decent enough and has a nice view of Carlisle Cathedral

A great traditional public house, which offers a wide range of products and some delicious lunch time food on its menu, I can well recommend the food, as I am a keen cook myself. Both David and Davy the proprietors offer friendly conversation and useful advice to any visitor or regular customer of this public house. The ambience of the lounge bar is tastefully decorated and has comfortable seating in a homely and welcoming environment. There is usually a choice of real ales, house wines, ciders and spirits. The Boardroom public house is easy to find in the semi pedestrianised terraced and cobbled street area of Paternoster Row, next to the historic grounds of the dominating Sandstone Carlisle Cathedral, which is definitely worth a visit :) ( please note it does have a single wide step to enter the premises, and is Cash Sale only business- The boardroom also has small clean, male and female toilet facilities). I mainly attend The Boardroom on a Wednesday night at 20:00 hours for the weekly general knowledge quiz with its raffle prize. Teams of up to four members can enter for the quiz, at a cost of just £1 per member, it's very entertaining too :)

Third visit in a few years. Last time. Again, horrendous vinegary beer that is clearly off. No card payments suggests this pub this is dying, which is partly a shame as I recall it fondly from youth, but it deserves to go or be taken over by owners who care. Not good enough.
