Decided to book here for a 60th birthday celebration. On booking I was told that if I booked for 25 or more we could use all 4 rooms on the first floor. On arrival we were then told that the red room (the largest room) had been booked by someone else so we could not go in there but we could use any of the other rooms. Then we were told the person had not turned up so we could go in the red room. The guests who had children (and some who didn't) arrived to be told straight away and in no uncertain terms that children (there were only 3 of them) had to leave by 9pm which had not previously been mentioned when I booked. It would have been helpful to know the policy in advance. When the food arrived it was lovely but nowhere near "the Three" per person. It was sparse for the number of guests so some guests did not get anything to eat. Wine was served in pint glasses, bottles were thrown loudly into a bin by the bar person. Guests were shouted at and made to feel uncomfortable by the same very frosty bar person. The young man who serving /clearing was the opposite and very polite. I was on edge all evening wondering what would happen next. One of the guests described it as being similar to "Fawlty Towers". Better communication by the manager beforehand could have avoided some of the issues but I felt that she tried to avoid speaking to me and she was uninterested in our booking. It was a shame because this is a beautiful building and last time we ate there the food was amazing so something went drastically wrong. I was very disappointed.

Had a great night in there a few months ago, but lately if you get there much after 8pm, they're getting ready to close.. Last week, for example, we hot there at 19:30 on a Tuesday - only to be told that they had just called last orders..! I get that heating and lighting cost money when they're not busy, but they'll be the first to complain when they go out of business because they've no customers.. as people will stop bothering to even try going in there.. It's a real shame, as our first visit was great..

The bar staff have an attitude problem, expect the customer to move to where they want to serve you at the bar. Big NO NO, you come to the customer!!

Can not fault the watering can cafe and bistro. The food is great, have had both breakfasts and lunches and are always delicious. Quick service and friendly staff. Highly recommended

Really tasty food, but you need to be very hungry! Had the oven-baked meatballs for a starter which were lovely but, to be honest, were more than enough for a main! The Penne Inferno Marinara was another delight, cooked to perfection but again, rather too much of it and have to leave some (which I really don't like doing). Shame Peroni not available on draught anymore, but great to see Liqueurs like Drambuie available. The waiter was rather quiet at first, but he livened up and got more chatty as the evening ensured. So, overall, please keep up the quality but reduce the portion size would be our advice.
