My husband loves this pub and has made it his local whilst on holiday. We go most days for a couple of pints then back to our caravan. On Friday we had dinner there. It’s very busy pub but the man serving us was friendly and attentive. The food was lovely my husband had the steak he said it was great I had the vegetarian pizza with added jalapeños. I also ordered onion rings that I definitely did not need once I saw the size of the pizza. Food is ample portions. But this hasn’t meant losing its taste or presentation. We had a lovely evening chatting to the man serving us who was from Bow in London. Nice reminiscing with him. Thankyou for being a warm friendly pub. With good food, good staff and good coffee”s as well as a very excellent stocked bar. Well worth a visit.

Been coming to the Board inn many many years, a quaint little village pub/restaurant with lots of character and very nice real ale, the Wainwrights is a great real ale and the Hobgoblin is divine, me and my wife had the steak pie and that’s where they lost a star, firstly the good points, homemade chips delicious, gravy tasty, garden peas tasted cheap need to change to petite pois, mushy peas divine, the pie was nearly there, meat was lean but lacking in taste, pastry was a little too thin, get the pie spot on and this pub would definitely be my favourite, the staff are very friendly and attentive especially the bar manager Paul , always friendly and helpful

Rude reception from what I assume was the manager (a guy dressed in a blue uniform t-shirt). If you’re a passing tourist, this place is not for you as the manager looks you up and down like something they have just stepped in; presumably because you’re not a local so he isn’t as inclined to be polite. We tried to order some lunchtime food at around 14:30hrs after having reviewed the website and seeing it expressed “Food served ALL DAY”. When going to the restaurant area to order this, the ‘manager’ rolled his eyes at me, checked his watch and informed one of his servers “it’s half past 2 so no.” The young server he communicated with rather than me directly, informed me that the kitchen closes at half past 2 so only sandwiches can be ordered. Nowhere was there a sign to say sandwiches were served all day as opposed to the full menu. Similarly, this was not expressed on the website and merely stated food, one assuming would be the full menu. Furthermore, the manager had ample opportunity to inform me of this when he saw me sit down and look at the menu when he was tending to one of his so called regulars. I might have been inclined to have purchased a sandwich from the establishment had it not been for the managers reception towards me causing a negative atmosphere and making me feel utterly out of place in the pub. Would not recommend this place if you are passing the area and not a local as it’s clear you’ll be treated differently and provided with attitude, filthy looks and be made to feel out of place.

The pub of can’t do’s with below average food. Asked to play darts before our meal arrived only to be told by the inept staff you can’t do that in the dining room. Asked why. The can’t do that staff at the inept establishment said because there were bookings. I obviously said I’d stop if anyone sat next to the dart board. No one came could have had several games but could not as dealing with can’t do that foolish staff. Asked for fish chips garden peas and a side portion of scampi. You can’t do that so said the board inn staff you have to pay for a full or bite sized meal with more chips and garden peas. Like I said CANT DO STAFF. They don’t comprehend the difference between a steak pie and steak pie crust. Poor food. Several miles down the road is a place called Atwick with a pub called the black horse. They are a can do pub can play darts in dining room when no one near dart board, can get a potion of scampi for a starter price with magic n meal and comprehend the difference between a pie and pie crust. Food and service far better. AVOID THE BOARD INN at Skipsea at all, costs and like the plague

Booked online. Needn’t have bothered as we were the only ones in the restaurant - therefore no atmosphere. Very disappointed with the food. Steak was very fatty/chewy - didn’t appear to be a rump cut at all - more like sirloin. Chips were sweet and over cooked (quite greasy and tasted a bit fishy). I swapped my chips out for a tiny basic. The young lad that served us was lovely. He did say the chef offered to cook new steaks but we were on a time schedule as had to leave our accommodation, so couldn’t take up this option. The pub struggled with their Internet so said we could only pay by cash which was not an option for us as we did not have enough cash. The helpful young lad advised us to walked to the post office to get cash - which we did, but their machine (which charges you to withdraw) was out of order and the desk was closed for lunch. Walked back to the pub and explained but also mentioned again our disappointment with the meal. Came to an agreement to pay half - which we had in cash. So disappointed with the meal as it was the last meal of our holiday and one we’d looked forward to.

Very dissapointed, booked for fathers day meal family of 6 adults plus 1 dog, we were seated at tables for 4 people so split in to separate tables in a busy corridor with very little space ( the pub should advise of this beforehand when booking). Food overall was nice & staff friendly. We would reccomend the pub needs to re-think where to comfortably accomodate people with dogs.

We were stopping nearby and fancied a Sunday Lunch so pre booked for 3pm, what a disaster, one of the party is gluten free and had the gluten free nut roast option along with another person who ordered the nut roast but stated they didn't need gluten free, when they came both meals had yorkshire puddings on and the waitress didn't know which was supposed to be the gluten free one, she says she didn't want to ask the chef because he was 'in a bad mood' I have a gluten intolerance but someone who had a seriously allergy would not want to eat here !! the rest of the food was very average, cold carrots that were probably left over from the carvery and not even warmed up, frozen sweetcorn, and parsnips and roast potatoes that tasted like they were cooked in dripping even though three of our meals were vegetarian options. A couple of the waitresses were very apologetic and very nice, but overall very disappointing after looking forward to it.

There is car parking at this location and it is a short walk into the pub. The pub is , as you would expect from a small town, very rustic. There is outside dining space and several rooms inside. Some feel more like a bar and some more like a restaurant. There appeared to be another area inside which was quite large but had nobody in it. The toilets aren’t the last word in luxury. They are quite dated and need a thorough clean. Despite it being busy, we didn’t have to wait long to be served or get our food. The food was reasonably priced for what we had. We had the steak pie from the light bites menu, the haddock and chips, onion rings, dirty fries and an egg mayo ciabatta. The portions were huge and we ended up having to some’Of the food to go. They were happy to do this for us. The staff were attentive and friendly. We would definitely eat here again and probably will every time we holiday in the area.

We attended thiS pub tonight and very nearly walked out due to the attitude of a man named Paul behind the bar, he was downright rude to me when I tried to order food asking me why I hadn't booked? at 18.00 on a weds night I really didn't think I needed to!!! And it really wasn't busy. He begrudgingly served us food then demanded we put our drinks on the bill we explained we had already paid for them when we served by a lovely man called Steve, he was so rude another customer actually commented on it, apparently I am not the first person to complain about him and actually we came a few months previously and he was rude then. I personally don't think he should be in a public facing role he is very detrimental to the business, the food was lovely and the pubs lovely but he is letting you down.

I was down in Skipsea with my mum, auntie and uncle this week, staying at one of the local caravan parks, after a night of eating at the park and a visit to The Black Horse in Atwick we decided to try The Board Inn. We loved it, service was superb, food was lovely, it's well priced. I'd recommend it to anyone staying in the area or just passing through. The only downside was when I first discovered it it was when I was looking for a pint on the Tuesday, unfortunately it closes all day on a Tuesday lol can't win them all! Great place in my opinion or as the title suggests, a hidden gem.

Booked a table for 4 adults and a baby for Sunday lunch. Service a little on the slow side. Unfortunately was sat at a table where a buzzer was constantly going on overhead. Food was bland and mediocre. Yorkshire puddings were a disaster. My daughter and I left most of our food, both hubbies were starving so ate most of theirs but they did say they were extremely disappointed. Didn't help that before our meal arrived that 2 tables close by were complaining that they could not tell whether they were eating pork, beef or turkey, that the cauliflower cheese was stone cold and the only nice thing on the plate was the roast potatoes. I have to admit they were right. I never normally complain even if the food was not up to standard but I felt the need to do so today. If they are not informed of their bland and cold food they cannot do anything about it. Hopefully it will improve in the future but I will not be going back.

Called at the Board Inn as we were staying locally the Saturday before the lifting of lockdown to go indoors. Beer garden is big, and sheltered with good covid measures. Staff were friendly and joined in with our banter and jokes making for a very relaxed atmosphere. The drinks were all good and the food very tasty and well portioned. Only real downside is poor phone signal so downloading the app was painfully slow and on our visit the card machine was down so cash only but this seemed to be more an area wide issue as the card machine at the nearby post office was also temperamental on the day.

Like the last reviewer, we too visited this pub for food twice on our holiday. We too had a great meal on both occasions. The steak & ale pie was delicious and the sausages I had on our second visit were top quality. The poor chap was dashing around looking after too many tables!Covid measures were rightly in place with sanitiser and the NHS QR code evident on arrival. Customers and staff all complied. There is only one road to and from Skipsea Sands caravan park (which is about one mile from the village) and it passes within 50 yds of this pub.We didn't eat at the caravan park but surely their food cannot compare to the meals at this place.

Although we arrived in the evening they still had both beef and pork available. Most of us decided to have beef and when it arrived there was plenty on the plate. Everything tasted great with a good sized yorkshire. We all enjoyed our meal and decided to return for Wednesday curry night. There's a choice of four different curries and three different meats or veg. I had the Balti and the others had the Butter Chicken along with poppadoms and naans. It was all very tasty with just the right amount of spice. There was also a Board ale on that night which was excellent. The only issue we had was the fact we had dogs and there is very limited seating inside if your eating. We have been on east coast for years. Was always warned off The Board Inn. However seeing new positive reviews thought we’d try it out. Booked for 3.30pm. In an empty restaurant we we placed next to a draughty door. So I asked if we could move to a more airy, light table. They obliged. Had our drinks order taken which was slightly wrong (there was only 4 of us!). Ordered our food. Asked for young daughter’s food to come out ASAP as she has autism. Starter came after 25 mins. After an hour we asked what was going on. Embarrassed waitress said she didn’t realised we’d finished 1 single garlic bread to share. The 3 mains came. Elder daughter’s burger was gorgeous! We ordered a medium rare, and medium steak. Then they arrived......They were certainly not cooked to our requirements. Not sure if a shoemaker wants their products back. Along with a cold steak sauce??My flip flop would have tasted better. We couldn’t eat them. Just really, really disappointed. After waiting as long as we did it just wasn’t acceptable. Then we went back to our caravan and couldn’t go anywhere else to eat. Up your game Board Inn!!!!

Visited due to staying in the village on a recent break and it was around the corner. Had looked forward to our evening meal but was hugely disappointed with the food and really angry too. I didn't feel it appropriate to make a complaint due to the Covid restrictions as this would have caused issues but i was really angry with the disdain they showed us as paying customers which needs to be said. Chips were brown, soft and soggy oven chips and were inedible. Both myself and partner left them as we simply couldn't eat them. Steak pie was OK but lukewarm. Not hot at all. Halloumi burger was ok too but the inability to be able to fry decent chips, a pretty elementary task for a chef, ruined the whole meal. We will not be visting again. Service was actually OK. Least it's something they are able to get right. Oh and also no locally brewed ales. Just generic Greene King rubbish etc and no Wold Top (local brewery) or other local ales. Not good.

We travelled from the blue dolphin 30 minutes drive as food was so good last park to eat here we did this because the food was lovely. This time we rang ahead to make sure there was a table available as we have 2 dogs, we sat in the beer garden and didn’t mind this as it was a lovely day. The beer garden has its own little window where you can order drinks and food. There is also an app that you can download that you can use to order and pay for your meal. The staff again were very friendly and helpful. Ordered the cheeseburger and the steak and ale pie and again the food was spot on. Chef kindly cooked us 2 sausages for the dogs which they enjoyed. The board inn has a good system in place to keep it Covid secure and the staff wore masks. We will definitely return here in September.

We visited after hearing good things about the food. The inn is tucked away on a back lane. It has a reasonable car park that is fairly level. On entering you find a traditional pub with a number of small bars and a restaurant. The barman was very friendly and welcoming as were the locals who had popped in for lunch. Always a good sign!! Anyway we selected our meals from the menu which has a good choice and reasonable prices. One thing of note was a section providing smaller portions. Whilst we were waiting for the meal to arrive we were teased by the food aromas coming from adjacent tables. When it arrived we were pleased both with the size of the meal and the presentation. Half a hour later we were on our way nourished and very happy. We will certainly return. It was a mid week visit in March so we managed to get a seat in the bar but it does get busy at weekends and during the Summer period so booking ahead may be advisable. There appears to be plenty of drinks choice but as we were travelling we stuck to tea with our meal. Finally, the inn offers a take away service with access to the normal menu with specials on certain days of the week. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Extremely long wait for meals to turn up. Chips under cooked not many on plate. When asked if food was ok i said no and didn't get a response so went into a bit of detail still got no answer they just frowned and walked away. Used to be really good here but just seems like no one cares anymore and can't be bothered. I was driving so could only have one drink which i drank most of before the food showed up and the bit i had left had gone flat. I wasn't timing it but at least an hour after i ordered which just isn't good enough and it didn't make any sense as the pub wasn't exactly busy. Must be a problem in the kitchen and lack of communication between staff and management. No explanation can justify it but it's easy to see why it's not as busy here as it used to be. Very very disappointed

Our meal took an hour to arrive with some claptrap about a broken printer. Cobblers my partner asked for French mustard 20 minute after we ordered so why didn't anyone notice then our food wasn't bring prepared. More a case of a chef who can't be bothered and is dictating to the management. When it finally arrived there weren't many chips and my tomato had one thin slice took off it then griddle that side the rest of it was raw couldn't be bothered to slice it in half and cook it properly. All of this is very unfortunate as it's not the first time there's been problems with food here for us so we won't be coming again. Just shoddy and second rate sort your act out

Last time i came here i had to send the steak back to the kitchen as it was cooked wrong. I thought I'd give them another chance but tonight our food took an hour. A very meagre portion of chips less tgan half what should have bern on the plate. Apparently the food took an hour because the printer wasn't working which is just lame. Won't be coming here again it's gone downhill

Second time visiting this local pub for a Sunday lunch and it did not disappoint from walking in to order the drinks from the very sociable bar man to the very helpful waiter in the restaurant and Sofia who was more than helpful when slicing the lovely cooked beef, very nice to see fresh local products used and cooked to perfection, the only thing that was probably missing is no white meat on offer today but not an issue but just a thought, well done to all the team for a lovely Sunday lunch for the four of us we will return.

Easily booked in, staff very friendly although they didn’t want to do anything for her such as decorate or anything which was very strange as most places do. All the food was nice, we visited again on the Sunday and had Sunday dinner, not much to choose from apart from veg, needs some more adding on to it. Overall very nice and would recommend.

Would recommend visiting Hornsea, Bridlington, or the caravan site bar/eateries. Notwithstanding that, Skipsea must mean `Skip The Sea` as the beach is dangerous & difficult to access.

We were staying nearby and stopped here for a late lunch. It is an older pub inside but beers were poured and enjoyed whilst we looked at the menu. My wife opted for scampi, chips and peas and I decided on chilli and rice. Waited a little while but not too long and the food was served. Hot in temperature but chilli was very mild indeed as even I didn't feel any 'hit' and I am on the weak side. My wifes scampi was ok and hot but the chips were extremely disappointing as they looked lovely and dark and crisp but in fact were 'sand blasted' to give some colour whilst being very soft inside. This is a sure sign that the oil has not been changed for a while. When we were asked if everything was ok we did inform him that the chips were poor and the suspected reason and he stated he would check with the kitchen. It was no surprise that he did not come back to us or speak to us again before we left. Better customer service would have been appreciated. We were hungry and did in a strange way enjoy our meal but only to a certain degree. We would not return again as felt very let down.

Stayed in near by Skipsea for a short break and visited the board inn 3 days in a row for food and drinks. Between me and my partner we had the haddock and chips, meat pie, pate and toast, prawn cocktail, all of which were delicious. However on the last day we treated ourselves to the Ribeye Steak with homemade chips and peppercorn sauce, it was cooked beautifully and the ribeye was full of flavour, restaurant standard at pub prices. Fantastic value for money. All the staff were really friendly. Can't wait to visit again.

If you like your barmaids with the dour demeanor of an underpaid undertaker and restaurants with sticky menus and tables as if mauled by a shedload of toddlers, then The Board Inn is the place for you. Serving staff efficient & friendly, portions large and steak & ale pie pretty good. Chips ditto, but marrowfat peas on the tough side. Beer not very palatable so easy to drink just the one. Place worth avoiding.

Called here 10 September for a pub lunch as we were staying at the local caravan park and had been recommended by the owner of the caravan that this pub was dog friendly - it is. My sister totally enjoyed her meat meal (can't remember what she chose) but I was less than impressed with my vegetarian option, putting it mildly. I chose the vegetable and halloumi burger (the only other option being vegetable lasagne - where is their imagination!!!???). The bun had no butter or even margarine on it - dry. The burger fell apart because it seemed to be made up mainly of seeds and therefore, again, very dry. The chips were just chips, can't go wrong with that. The halloumi must have been the last piece they had because it was cut so thinly, when cooked it also became very dry but at least it was reasonably edible (probably because I was very hungry). When the server came to take my plate away and mentioned about the thin halloumi and he replied that when he cooks halloumi at home, he cuts it thickly so that it doesn't dry out. £8.50 for a few chips, tomato sauce, vinegar, salt, pepper, a few bites of the dry burger and one bite of a dry burger bun does not equate to good value, nor a satisfied customer. All in all, a contented sister but a very discontented vegetarian sibling.

Visited with old friends and had a great time. Food was amazing and a lovely gentleman who looked after us behind the bar. Only downside was that we couldn’t set a tab up behind the bar. This was really inconvenient as we were splitting the bill 3 ways and had to keep going up to the bar, ordering each time, getting receipts, returning to the table, sort the money out and then back to the bar to pay. By the time we had done this 3 times for 2 rounds of drinks and the main courses we couldn’t be bothered to do it again for deserts and coffee and more drinks. Apart from that it is a really spot on place.

We visited this Inn as we were staying at the Skipsea Sands, close by and it seemed perfect for a pub lunch. As soon as we entered we were greeted by a miserable old bar tender, who abruptly informed us that all the empty tables were reserved, despite not having reserved notices on them. Apparently the only table available was a dirty, battered old table at the back of the restaurant, close to the kitchen. The waitress/barmaid was no friendlier. The atmosphere was dreary, decor drab and staff sullen. We beat a hasty retreat to a lovely pub in Bridlington, bright, welcoming and friendly. We never got as far as food, though the kitchen smelt like a greasy spoon. Will be giving this place a wide berth in future.
