A Moderately busy Sunday, and while not the fastest service the welcome was warm and friendly. No complaints with the food and drink. Plus generous portion sizes.

Really nice local. The new landlord and landlady are lovely and hospitable. Food was great and it was super busy. Great atmosphere. We had a cracking roast dinner and the Guinness was spot on too! Ample parking, lots of seating and friendly locals! A must!

Lovely atmosphere and we were made to feel welcome. We all had the Sunday lunch (beef), absolutely gorgeous and beautifully presented, generous portions, in fact sadly had to leave some. My only criticism would be that it wasn't as hot as I would like, but that won't stop me returning. It was very busy and it must be difficult to keep everything hot with so many orders. Well done to all the staff .

The food was delicious, we had roast beef... come on, it was Sunday lunch!. The portions are huge, but I gave it a valiant attempt! It was busy, and I'm glad I booked . Will definitely recommend and return!

My family had a Sunday dinner, 2 had gammon and the other 3 of us had the beef. It was the most delicious Sunday dinner we have all ever had! (I have now decided not to even bother making a Roast again as I will only disappoint compared to Stacey’s)! The meat was so tender and lots of it! The gravy was to die for! The full roast together was absolutely delicious! 3 of us had the biscoff cheesecake for dessert (even though we were so full from the gorgeous roast), the cheesecake was just…. Wow!!! So delicious! Very happy, overly satisfied and very full customers we all are!!! Thankyou so much! Highly, highly recommend!

Lovely little pub in the middle of the village of Skidby. Great views from the massive car park and beer garden of the Yorkshire Wolds. Great food and range of drinks. Highly recommended *****

Background to my review: Over the past 10+ years, I have visited the pub many times, with family and with a walking group that I run with a friend - regularly parking at the pub and calling in for refreshment after a walk. 'Stewardship' has changed a few times over the years, usually all good, apart from that prior to its closure over a year ago. Following a couple of very poor experiences of customer service during that tenure, we chose to 'boycott' the place, both as a family and walking group. It was no surprise that the place closed. Fast forward to late last month, and I spotted that it had re-opened under the new management of Alfie and Stacey. I had a conversation with them via Messenger, resulting in me booking for Sunday lunch on 6th October, for me and my 90 year old Dad. We were greeted warmly by Alfie and staff, and shown to, as requested, a quietish table. A drinks order was quickly taken and we were given time to look at the menu. Alfie explained that there was a smaller portion option, which we both chose. Dad had the slow cooked beef and I had the gammon. We both agreed that our meals were delicious, and good value for money. The parsnip mash was a nice change, compared to the usual offerings elsewhere. In addition to the excellent service, Alfie took time to engage with us and chat with Dad about their military careers. I have no hesitation in recommending this place for food and/or drinks, and we will definitely be back with the wider family and our walking group. My only suggestion, and definitely not a complaint, would be to include reference to the smaller portions on the printed menu. Good luck Alfie and Stacey for continued success.

Popped in here today for lunch after a walk around Skidby mill circular with our dog. Although dogs only allowed in one section it was very nice and she was given treats and water. The meal was delicious and really good quality. Landlord very friendly and welcoming.

Absolutely fantastic to see the pub open again, service from the staff is excellent and professional, the food is absolutely amazing, had the game pie oh wow so tasty. Would highly recommend this pub, they deserve to enjoy every success that will definitely be coming. Please give this a visit you will not be disappointed.

Booked a table for 4 for Sunday lunch today. After reading reviews we were expecting a tasty meal. The meat wasn’t too bad although quite dry. There were very few vegetables and they were watery and tasteless as was the gravy! The Yorkshire pudding was hard and difficult to chew! Roast potatoes were also very hard. Overall we were very disappointed!

If the girl serving you at this pub asks u to re enter ur bank card, check the payment has not already gone out I checked my bank statement when home to find I’d payed twice therefore paying £20.80 for two drinks

Food was delicious, lovely little pub and staff are very friendly and welcoming. I vegetarian and went for the veggie sausages in the Yorkshire pudding, husband had beef in the Yorkshire pudding. Really enjoyed it, highly recommend. We luckily booked a table as it was full so would advise booking. Fast service too

Magnificent home cooked food. Giant Yorkshire pudding with vegetables and potatoes and scrumptious sausages, topped off with amazing gravy. Incredible value for money.

Food was freshly cooked and delivered hot to the table. Service excellent. The price reflected excellent value. The meal was the signature Christmas dish, with Brussel sprouts cooked to perfection.

Food arrived hot which was good as it was a chilly night - (but the wife’s salad was a little limp after been on gas mark 6 for an hour) , nice tasting and nicely plated and ample servings. Atmosphere was very pleasant, staff very friendly and efficient. Well recommended.

Called in for Sunday lunch we had the roast but it came smothered in gravy although there was a large amount of vegetables it would be better in a separate dish and concentrate on quality rather than quantity Also didn't realise we had been put in the dog section so miss desert as don't like eating next to dogs

Delicious food and a lovely country pub. I'd recommend booking in advance. We walked in on a Thursday lunchtime and they kindly accommodated us despite being fully booked. No wonder as the food was 10/10. There is also a big car park and garden, handy for when there is nice weather. Lovely views too. I look forward to returning in the future.

We were made very welcome here - this included the dog that a friend brought with him who was given a bowl of water as soon as we sat down. The food was really good with plenty of choice and I can't comment on the beer choices as I was doing the driving but there was a good range on offer. So, nice pub, good food with service that went that extra mile. We'll be back.

We had a meal here on Saturday night a group of 5 of us. I had the home made curry and I have to say it was exceptional, all the food was home made, the staff were lovely too! We really enjoyed it. We were staying at Barn Owl cottage and I will definitely be returning here for a meal! Thank you

Proper home cooked food. We got roast beef & home made Yorkshire pudding and it was so tasty. Definitely will be going again very soon. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, carrots, cabbage & parsnips yum yum 😋

We just popped in for a drink whilst undertaking the Beverley 20. Great service even though we had muddy boots. The food being served looked mouthwatering.

Called in on the off chance of getting a table. Warm and friendly greeting. Good selection of drinks, good lunch time menu. Highly recommend the Yorkshire Pudding which had an option of fillings. The beef was fantastic. Good local dog friendly pub, fresh home cooked food. Will definitely return.

Eat here regularly but disappointed last night with one meal. Gammon steak was NOT a steak more like a slice of thick bacon. Complained to the waiter as my friend couldn’t eat it it was very chewy. He said he will tell the chef. Didn’t even offer her s free coffee.

great food....huge outdoor area potentials, its so frustrating that they don't just spend a few days tidying up the rear of the building over the summer time, they would definitely get more business for those passing by walking/biking etc if they made it a nice place to sit/eat, just move or cover the bins/skip etc...basic stuff really!!

The half moon in Skidby is a proper traditional village pub. It serves a wide selection of beers and lager, including excellent cask conditioned real ales. It has for many years deservedly had an excellent reputation for its food. My family have been coming to this pub for over a hundred years, my grandmother was the landlady before the First World War. It's a great pub.

Cracking pub After working in cottingham a month ago, pub i went too wasn't the best. Came to the half moon tonight as ive bin sent back by work. Found this place. Can't fault it. Food, staff, everything brilliant. If your working in cottingham and specially if your staying at lazaat, try this place.

Visited the Half Moon today and I honestly couldn’t fault it. I had the Half Moon burger which was cooked beautifully and my two other guests had the giant Yorkshire puddings which they enjoyed. The staff were nice and friendly and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Would highly recommend this place when in Skidby or Cottingham when looking for a place to eat and drink.

Lovely Sunday roast with plenty of fresh veg selection. Also this is the first time I have found a proper vegetarian Sunday lunch too. I get frustrated when I ask for a Sunday lunch with a vege option & it comes with hardly any ‘proper’ Sunday roast selections. Took photo half way through, but just want to say 👍 well done to this pub for the wonderful ‘nut free’ nut roast, lovely creamy mash, fresh carrots, peas, cabbage, roasts & Yorkshire pudding. I will certainly be back !!!

I came here for a birthday meal with friends. The barman/waiter was really friendly and pleasant and welcomed us, saw us to our table and ordered our drinks. Then a surly chef came over to take our food order. We weren't quite ready to place our order but she refused to wait. My friend wanted a side of vegetables instead of a main course but the chef said "No. You are here on a birthday party so why don't you have some cake instead"! Whatever happened to customer service and what the customer wants?! One friend had ordered a portion of creamy garlic mushrooms as a starter. When it arrived it only had 2 slices of mushrooms in it - so not even one whole mushroom in the dish! My friend complained but the chef just came back and said that's all that was left. So my friend just had to have that but at least we weren't charged for it. I think that the chef prides herself on being rude especially to people from outside the area. We had intended on staying in the pub and drinking but decided to leave immediately after the meal as I don't think we would have been welcome. Overall the food was quite tasty. My vegan friend really loved her vegan thai curry. I had scampi which you can't really go wrong with. It's a shame about the rudeness of that chef but the barman/waiter did his best to be welcoming. 3 stars just because of the bad attitude, lack of mushrooms and no veg allowed.

Had high hopes for this place but seemed a bit run down food was good but not great cup of tea was not good milk in capsules 😞

We enjoyed another lovely meal here a few days ago. We've been coming to the pub for years and have never been disappointed. The Thai Vegetable Curry is one of my very favourite meals. My family had different meals and they loved them, too. Staff are very friendly and the place has a lovely atmosphere. Good beer, too! Thanks for being such a great local traditional pub! I would recommend the place to those from further afield, too.

Nice pub bar man was lovely the lady was a stuck up awful women with a bad personality even said to us while we was getting served at the bar move out the way or I will hit with the chair trying to get passed us could of been more polite or just waited a couple of seconds instead of being rude which she clearly was and said there were fully booked for food but wasn’t she didn’t want us there so she lied because we was out of town and not locals horrible young lady

Only poped in 2 friends for a couple of pints and a plate of chips each, we was made to feel welcome as if we where locals. Food looked amazing they where serving lovely setting and friendly atmosphere.

Mot impressed don't do small meals as not able to eat much. The food looked really good price good choice well balanced .place quite a size inside and out. very god for cyclist plenty of bike racks

Had a lovely relaxed meal with friends, the food is all excellent. It was not our first visit, so we have tried various items from the menu. Staff were very welcoming even though it was a busy Saturday evening. We will be back again soon!

Such an amazing find!! Great priced drinks - you won’t get ripped off. Amazing food!!! Honestly…the food is incredible and such great value. I cannot recommend this place enough and we will be back soon.

Really friendly staff, and very obligingly. The food was good and very reasonably priced. Good parking and really easy to find. I would have given 5⭐ but a couple of menu choices weren't available at the time of visit (probably a bit harsh) I guess they had been sold out. Unfortunately still a couple of menu options are not available (02.04.2023)

The daughter booked it for Mothers Day & the landlord & staff where very welcoming, never been in here before but its a throw back to a proper traditional style pub which i loved. There was only the Sunday menu on but plenty of dishes to choose from me & the wife had the mixed meats Sunday roast & she said it was the best Sunday dinner she has had so you cannot get better praise than that as we have tried a few but the daughters partner had the fish & chips with mushy peas & the fish hung over the plate because it was that big so all in all it was an excellent meal in a proper traditional pub highly recommended

We really love the half moon and the food is such good value for money. Food is served right on time and has a really wide range of choices each one being really tasty especially the chicken parmo , would highly recommend!A bottle of wine for £15 you can't go wrong. Credit where credit the staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you.. except for one senior member of staff who really shouldn't be working in hospitality . No manners at all every time , makes sarcy comments and is just generally rude. We over heard her talking to another member of staff quite rudely too which wasn't great. Really brings the place down when everything else is so nice.

Celebrated Valentines night here. Greeted with Proseco and a red rose. From starter to dessert was amazing. I'd ordered the steak which was £5 extra. £32.50 worth every penny cooked to perfection. Waiting staff so friendly. An amazing night. Just need my husband to do a Cold Feet scenario with the rose. 😂😂🌹🌹🌹🌹

beautiful Sunday lunch, the only thing is they could of done with larger and more roasties also make your own Yorkshire's that would of been the icing on the cake , no mash needed personal preference, still totally enjoyed and value for money 🤩🤩 also vegaterian option need to be more creative than nut roast or veg sausages parsional preference again, would definetely return 🤩🤩

Booked in here for lunch (after telling the kids for years about the amazing Yorkshire Puddings) while staying near Hull during half term. Booked in advance and told them how much we were looking forward to the giant Yorkshires. Took ten minutes to take a drinks order then ordered food. 15 minutes later we were told that there were no Yorkshire Puddings left. So a pub that advertises their World Famous Yorkshire Puddings didn’t actually have any… ended having a McDonalds. Very disappointing. Not like we can just pop in another time. They apologised but I think they could have apologised and tried harder to find another time for us to comeback later that evening or another day or paid for our drinks. Really poor experience sadly.

I had looked at the menu online and decided exactly I wanted for my birthday tea , so I didn’t eat all day in anticipation ,I was going to have pil pil prawns and ( fillet steak ) beef stroganoff. When we arrived it was your typical frozen / ready prepped very average pub menu I reluctantly ordered fish goujons for starter and lasagne , the goujons were ok but with some weird sauce on them that didn’t resemble tartar , the lasagne was luke. warm slopped on the plate with an insipid looking side salad ( with the weird sauce ) and sliced white bread masquerading as garlic bread . Had to send it back to be warmed up and get rid of the side salad ( mixed hot and cold food I can never understand). It returned in a little Turin accompanied with the sliced white garlic bread , I left most the bread and ate 75% of the flavour free lasagne because I felt sick with hunger . Note to new owners “ please make people are aware that you no Longer serve the food that is on your website to avoid someone else being bitterly disappointed) it spoilt my birthday entirely Thankyou

Went for the first time in ages, food was absolutely gorgeous, best fish & chips Ive ever had. My friend equally enjoyed the cajun chicken. Service was impeccable with a very warm and friendly welcome and orders for drink and food was very efficient. I will be a regular now. Price wise…I think they are selling themselves short. Bargain.

Visited the Half Moon on a Monday and was immediately put off by a member of staff with a very off attitude who turned out to be the landlady. Not very welcoming and spoke to us as if it was her doing us a favour allowing us to be there. Later during our meal decided to spray cleaning solution on the adjacent table, the smell of which was undesirable whilst we we eating. When challenged the shrug of shoulder and "well I have to clean" was not the sign of a friendly host. However, the remainder of the staff were more than helpful and the food was a delight, a good selection although they only had one option for red wine (Shiraz) and had failed to get a delivery of fillet steak, so that was off the menu. Great place, just beware of the landlady!

Could not fault anything. The food was lovely. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. It was good value for money . Went along with 3 friends for lunch. Would certainly go back again and would certainly recommend visiting this lovely littlle...

A lovely pub. Friendly staff. Food - generous portions and we felt good value for money. Would recommend their Yorkshire puddings. A complete Sunday lunch on a Wednesday 🙂. I had the pork option - included roast and mash potatoes; peas, carrots, leeks, several slices of pork and lashings of gravy.

Very recently my partner and I went for a meal here, we turned up nearly five minutes late and the person who met us on arrival was very rude because we were late, but I passed that off because I was so looking forward to the meal as I know how beautiful the food has been when have eaten here, the waiter said we could have a dessert if the chef hasn't gone home.... My partner did manage to get a pudding, two spoon fulls into his chocolate sponge he pulled out of his mouth a sharp piece of plastic, I took it back and I got a sorry, if this had being a child then they could of chocked or cut their mouth, it wasn't taken of the price of the bill. I looked forward to going here all week but it is safe to say we won't be returning in a hurry. So disappointing.
