Ordered what sounded like just the thing on a wet and windy day - tomato and lentil soup with a crusty bread roll. The soup was so watered down it was almost tasteless so we took it back and had coffee and cake instead. Coffee fine, cake nice but small!

Went today the grounds are lovely outside but due to the weather came inside. We found a table which hadn’t been cleaned and we moved the dirty dishes to one side. Tables are put together in seats of 6 god knows why? it did have a school canteen feel sitting next to people on a table of 6. Why don’t they have tables of 4/2? Food took over 25 minutes, which was just 2 sandwiches which we did enjoy. The young girl came over to say sorry and left one piece of cake. The cup of tea was nice. It a shame really looks like a lot of staff there but it’s not organised.

Very good food, and ok seating if a bit draughty. Wasnt busy when I went to food counter and the staff there didn’t make any attempt to serve me. Ended with someone coming from till end and she wasn’t particularly communicative/helpful. Paid by card and then server disappeared and had to ask someone else if transaction was completed. Not the best experience.

Have staff completed a basic food hygiene awareness course? If so the young blonde server who continually twisted her long hair with her fingers needs another course. She would definitely put me off ordering any food.

My sister and I called in today and were delighted to see Scouse on offer, but what a disappointment. Well and truly over salted. We really should have taken it back but we added a sachet of sugar and some of our butter in the hope it would tone it down-it didn't. We spent the afternoon buying bottles of cold drinks to sate our thirst. Really wish we had said something now. Hey ho. We won't be back.

Dropped by for coffee and cake. The miserable/bored staff on the counter couldn't have been less welcoming. Not a smile, not a thank you and no eye contact. The tea was okay but the chocolate brownies were truly horrible and overpriced. Such a shame as the location is great and the courtyard garden is a lovely little sun trap.

Wandering around this part of town my twin brother Stephen and I decided to drop into Bluecoat and although the cafe was closed it was still good to check out the architecture of arguably one of the most beautiful buildings in Liverpool. Constructed between 1716 - 1717 with extensions in 1718 and finally completed in 1725 ,the courtyard is superb and the building itself exquisite, I've visited the cafe which is lovely, great coffee and cake ,its most definitely a building and cafe I highly recommend you visit if you're in the area and easy to locate along School Lane.

The lighter meals here are really very tasty especially the soup and a butty deal. For two people get a soup each and share a butty. What lets the cafe down a whisker ..... is the tea is hot water on a tea bag in a mug which you take and put your own milk in it. Please ...... give us a proper pot then you would be up there with some other great cafes in Liverpool

We called in for a coffee break during a guided walk. The historic building is very nice outside, at the front and in the courtyard behind. The inside was not so nice, altered to be used as a cafe and seemed bare. I had a coffee and cake. Hot meals were on offer but we only had a limited time.

Was very busy which was good to see and lots of staff serving. However, I asked what soup of the day was ,and 3 members of didn’t know. They had to ask the manager . Surely that’s a basic thing, staff should know? Sat outside on a table which was in the sun. Table was dirty . When food cane out , I asked if she could clean the table . She didn’t have a cloth on her and didn’t cone back to clean it. I think she actually mumbled ‘I’m serving’ . Erm I’m a customer too! 🤔 food was good👍 Toilets needed a clean.

I ate lunch in the café at The Bluecoat this week, a Frenchy, which is basically cheese on toast, very tasty and served with a side salad. The staff are so friendly and helpful and bring the food to the table when it's ready. This place is set back from the main shopping area and it's a very pleasant place to sit and eat or just have a drink. They also serve Scouse, Homemade Sausage rolls and Soup, as well as salads, sandwiches, pasta and lovely cakes. A place definitely recommended.

I visited this establishment whilst in Liverpool. The building used to be a private school where pupils dressed in blue tunics and top hats (hence Bluecoat). It is now akin to a community centre/artistic establishment with art galleries filled with local students artwork. The 'restaurant' is on the 2nd floor and presents as a large room with various tables - it looks like a student hangout but without the students. I ordered a plate of scouse with a cup of tea. The tea arrive and I was pleasantly surprised to see it was leaf tea, not the usual tea bag. The scouse, as with all their dishes, is homemade. It was especially welcome on a wet, windy and miserable Saturday afternoon. The service was a tad slow due to low numbers of staff (illness) but Stan was cheerful and chatty. Proper food at great prices in a convivial atmosphere.

Visited here in the week prior to Christmas with a Living Social voucher which was for 2 courses and a glass of wine or beer! Due to a limited menu available for the festive season we were informed we would be entitled to 3 courses...which on the face of it sounded great! We both chose the soup for starters which when it came was really delicious! We did however wait 1 hour 5 minutes for the soup to be served which is totally unacceptable! Main course (Scouse rarebit) luckily only took about 20mins to arrive which was better....and very tasty! We both ordered apple pie and custard...but were then informed there wasn't any custard and we weren't over keen on either of the other 2 choices! We were offered drinks on the house as an apology for the massive delay, and the young girl and boy running the operation from the front were very friendly and nice...although I think rather overwhelmed themselves by whatever was going on in the kitchen! I'm not altogether sure whether we would visit again.....will have to think about that!

Visited the Bistro on the 2nd floor thanks to a Wowcher 2nd time and a Living Social 1st time, that's how good it was. First visit we as a couple had a longish wait to be served our first course soup, but it was worth the wait, other courses came at a normal pace. I had their club sandwich which was substantial and my wife had the scouse which I must say looked and tasted the best she had had in Liverpool. The third course of apple pie and custard was probably too much but as we were on a 3 course plus a glass of wine voucher we could not disappoint the chef. In all it was excellent and well worth a casual dining experience. So much so that on our second visit our daughter and grandson tagged along. Once again the service, and food were exceptional. Certainly a one for a future visit.

One of the many presents my wife and I received for our wedding anniversary was a voucher for the Bluecoat Bistro and I have to say how grateful I am now to have received it.We went into Liverpool today to do some Xmas shopping so booked on Tuesday for a visit on the Wednesday it is advisable to pre book as the room is often used for events. Please do not be put of by this as it would be a shame to miss out . The venue is superb the staff caring and attentive as we had a voucher the young lady who served us advised us of what we could have and explained the menu. I opted for a warm goats cheese salad a bowl of my favourite Scouse and finished with Home made apple pie and custard. I had never had goats cheese before but I am a convert now I thought it might be overpowering but it was creamy and the salad complemented it really well if I had one thought I would have loved a couple of slices of crust bread to go with it . Then came the scouse which was served with bread packed with meat which melted in the mouth I am so glad I finished with apple pie as it would have been so easy to opt for a slice of cake and the custard was just superb so good that my wife who didn’t opt for dessert helped me to eat it (her words not my feelings I did not need help to eat this dessert) My wife went with the Goats cheese starter but for her main went for a advocardo poached egg and asparagus toasted sandwich with sweet potato fries which she shared with me I have to say I have never tasted anything like them light crispy with a lovely taste all washed down with a rose for my wife and a bottle of Peroni for me a really lovely meal in delightful surroundings and superb staff it won’t be long before my wife and I return for a very pleasurable experience

Our visit to the bistro on the first floor of the Bluecoat for lunch coincided with preparations for a wedding reception and work on the kitchen, so the seating area and the menu were both reduced versions of what is normally available. It was much quieter in the bistro than in the ground floor cafe, possibly because the bistro is hard to find (it is more straightforward to use the lift rather than trying to locate the right stairs - which are accessed via an external door from the entrance courtyard). We had a very pleasant lunch, despite the temporary restrictions on bistro operations during our visit, and the service was excellent throughout.Good points:+ Appealing menu, (even the reduced version on the day we were there)+ Excellent, friendly service+ Good value for both the food and wine+ Calm space (much quieter than downstairs)Not so good points:- Can be difficult to find your way up from the entrance level (use the external door into the stairwell or the lift)- Much of the furniture is rather basic (not 'hipster chic', just basic)

The dirty menu was only the start. Indifferent soup - chosen from an indifferent menu - was a blend of potato and mint. It could not decide whether it was sweet or savoury. Staff were pleasant but bewildered. I suspect no-one understood the term 'customer service'. And the loos were filthy, badly equipped and a general disgrace. Does the Bluecoat think that its lovely buildings and amazing setting as a hub of peace in a busy cosmopolitan city is enough?

I hadn't been here for years so was really looking forward to my visit. There are little shops in the courtyard on your way to the main entrance which are worth a visit. There is central courtyard where you can sit in the warmer months and a few more shops. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the food was fabulous. The portions are quite big so unless you are really hungry one (sandwich) is enough between two. We parked in Liverpool One as it's just a short walk away. I ordered the beer battered cod and chips. the first effort was overcooked and very greasy, i tried a bit but it was unpleasant. The staff did take it away, the replacement was better if a little underdone. The chips are handcut, which is good, they were different sizes and varied from not quite cooked to overdone. The mushy peas had been microwaved to death. My wife had scouse, this had a strong scent of black pepper - the taste confirmed it, far too much. It also appeared to have been thickened with wheat flour, for no clear reason. The local craft beers were good , though. For this we were charged over £30.

It has an attractive facade, a internal courtyard with plenty of shaded tables and seating which provides a quiet haven within a few yards of Liverpool's vibrant shopping areas. It has meeting rooms, a lecture theatre, and a few craft shops. There is free Wi-Fi so I often have colleague and client meetings here as its such a good location and never a problem to get a table. The staff are helpful and charming!! Love it!!

I used to love the garden and cafe at Bluecoat , but after the redevelopment I don't like the cafe, or enjoy sitting in the garden as much, The cafe is in the wrong place , in the natural pathway from the entrance to the garden, it feels like you are sitting in a corridor , with people walking all around you , it is far from comfortable or enjoyable, the food is average , nothing worth making a special visit for.The garden has been ruined , no longer a secret place enjoy a quiet break from the crowds of church street, the best thing about Bluecoat is the Display centre, that is as good as ever.

Always a free table, child friendly, good staff. However choose the food that is going to be made fresh. Falafel and kofties are dry - obviously been reheated.

I am not a fan of the bluecoat, even though I am a local born & bred. I find the cafe area quite stale smelling, which is off putting to say the least. Then you have a door leading into the walled garden, so if you sit near the door you get smells of cigarette smoke, off-putting to say the least, especially when you are a non-smoker. The food is over-priced, by far and again the smelly stale surrounding's, don't exactly make me want to eat here let alone buy a cup of tea!The garden out back, when we visited is littered with disgarded cigarette end's. Two rather scruffy guy's with can's of alcohol of some description where dossing out, one sleeping on the bench the other drinking from a can of booze adding to the already empty can's under the bench...Frankly a dull, dreary place that is very foul smelling and in desperate need of a good scrub and clean-up.

Come to the Blue coat chambers every so often theres a couple of places to eat and get a coffee and some arts and craft places plus a few shops and a nice court yard were it's surprisingly quiet for the middle of town. I Popped into the upstairs bistro with my partner and a friend back in August our friend had been before. Staff seem nice as does the place it can get quite busy and really they could do with a better layout of tables. The food itself is nice I enjoyed the club sandwich pretty chilled atmosphere, worth a try!

We like visiting the Bluecoat Centre (not to be confused with the Blue Coat secondary school - top of every league table). After enjoying the art exhibition we trotted upstairs for something to eat.Ooh, nice quiet restaurant. Not huge (good) and tables a good distance apart (not keen on the trend for putting tables very close together). Bar is good-looking - dark wood. Great bar guy who served us our orange juices promptly. He was interested in us and helpful - nice chat Mr Barman. We were happy with our food - it arrived promptly and was tasty. Coffee afterwards was perfect also.Just loved being in Bluecoat - it's the oldest building in Liverpool - 300 years!Afterwards, we had a walk through the Bluecoat gardens at the rear - very peaceful and quiet. You'd never know you were in the middle of a bustling busy city! The arts and crafts shops adjacent to the gardens are delightful. We also popped into the card / art / gift shop in the front courtyard on our way out where we bought some birthday cards and beautiful wrapping paper. If you want a quiet hour with decent food and good service then try Bluecoat Upstairs.

The Bluecoat Bistro upstairs is one of the nicest meals I have had in Liverpool. We did wait a while for the meals but hey, so worth it. Fresh, hot, tasty, plentiful and amazing value. It wont be long before we return.

I've visited Bluecoat Chambers for years, my mum used to bring sandwiches for us to eat in the lovely tranquil walked garden during city centre shopping trips. The quirky craft shops and art displays within the beautiful buildings make this a fantastic destination for tourists and locals, today there was a large group of Spanish school kids touring through, at the same time as a wedding reception was in full swing. There was a great atmosphere, helped by good weather. What consistently lets this place down is the service in the café, which frankly is horrible! Particularly the female server, she is so unfriendly and unhelpful, today she actually seemed angry. So disappointing, I had taken a visitor there, we didn't mind that the garden was half closed off for the wedding, it was nice to watch the party, but the tables were not cleared at all and were dirty. I had to take my food back twice because it wasn't cooked through, and I really wouldn't have minded as they were obviously busy, but really, if this lady hates her job and customers as much as she appears to, she should leave! (It's not the first time we've encountered her)

If you visit the Bluecoat and think that the lovely little café on the right as you go in is all that's on offer, turn left instead and go upstairs to Upstairs. On one side you have a view over the front courtyard of the beautiful Bluecoat building set back from the busy shopping street which is why I tend to sit on the other side to avoid distractions. When you sit down you are presented with a menu of salads, sandwiches and more substantial offerings and drinks aplenty. The staff are friendly, efficient and very quickly bring you edible works of art - seriously, even the wraps are beautifully presented. The surroundings are relaxed and it's very tempting to snuggle up in one of the sofas with a book and forget to go home. Just be aware that sometimes Upstairs is closed for a private function (superb place for a wedding reception) so if you're making a special trip it might be wise to ring and check. It's not the cheapest place, but the quality of food and drink is faultless so in my view it's worth the tiny extravagance.

Went on a Sunday between two exhibitions. Upstairs is quite different from downstairs. Willing and helpful staff knowledgeable about vegetarian requirements too. Simple food very well prepared, the hungry one amongst the four of us had to finish 3 other meals. The soup and sandwich is excellent value, the falafel was also well prepared and plentiful. Food on the neighbouring tables also looked good. While there, you can also visit the interesting shop and the odd exhibition.

This has a very nice feel to it. The old Bluecoat School building is now a modern space for eating in, viewing art and also housing a small group of independent shops, including a second hand book shop, record shop and crafty-type outlets. The food was good and at very reasonable prices and it was lovely to relax and enjoy the restaurant there. Well worth a visit.

Poor food-sandwich looked like it had been ready made and put in the fridge as bread was cold/slightly hard (not the freshest) and butter was rock hard (as I tried scraping it off). This put me off so I only eat half and was still hungry when I left. Expensive for what we had. Shame because the building is lovely and could be so much more. Will not be returning sorry.

We arrived for lunch, no one came to give us menus for 15 mins ad it was no busy.Evetally we got menus and ordered a bottle of wine drect from the bar. Then it was about 30 mins before our order was taken, a waitress had come to us earlier and I asked wat the soup of the day was, ten after informing me she walked away. The fish and chips arrived, the chips were fine but te fish was tiny inside a lot of batter, not worth £10.50, my soup was very good but it arrived with one small slice of thin bread, I have never had soup served with only slice of bread, I did ask for more and one more slice was brought out.It is a pity that that the staff and kitchen staff let the place down as it is a great place to go and the barman was very good, he asked us about our meal and we told hi and he said he would tell the kitchen.

We came here for lunch, it was quite busy and some of the tables were unavailable and so this meant that there was less space to sit. We waited a while to be served and for the table to be cleared. Our meals arrived separately, without any cutlery or drinks. We had to find out where our drinks were and then had to reorder them. My salad was too oily and disappointing, it might have been better if they had put the dressing in a separate container. I ordered a coffee which was completely forgotten so I had to go and reorder, one of the staff at the bar was reading a paper, although there were tables still eating.

we ordered 2 coconut flat whites and 2 peach ice teas, the coffees are nothing near a flat white and you could barely tell it had coconut milk in it, the teas weren’t the worst but for some reason had a banana taste and personally we did not enjoy the taste of these at all. other times when ever came here it’s never been as bad as today but we assume it’s due to the new barista. overall it’s not worth the amount of money we paid, for this amount we’d expect to get at least good tasting drinks.

We ordered a giant cookie on the second of feb to be collected on the 17th feb giving plenty time for it to be made. The day before pick up I ran the branch and asked about the cookie to which the lady rudely replied she hadn’t got an order and that there was lots of staff so it had gone missing, she didn’t even think to ask what was my order and instead told me to ring back at 4:30pm as she was extremely busy. As this cookie was for an event I didn’t want to risk not getting it and with the employee not really listening and being rude on the phone I went down to speak to her to my Surprise (not) she was not busy instead on her phone with her headphones in I spoke about the issue with the missing order and showed her my receipt to which she replied (I believe you) well I’m glad she did as she took my order on the 2nd. She never apologised or even acknowledges her mistake instead was extremely rude. I’m sure this isn’t the time of person Millie’s wants as the front for there business because I will not be going back and I’m sure others will feel the same if they have to deal with the same rudeness and inconvenience.

My girlfriend asked for a medium strawberry acai with lemonade but no ice and the drink cost £5.60 already for this price you could expect them to fill the cup, instead served a small cup half full, i asked if they could fill it up with lemonade as every other starbucks has done. I had to ask for a refund as i wasnt paying £5.60 for a half drink, we sat down to enjoy some time together and we overheard us them attempt to whisper about me asking for a refund by one staff member to the other and i found this to rude, when all i asked was a simple request. Any other starbucks or even staff have been much more accommodating. Wont be returning and ask people to go to the other starbucks in town centre.
