Love this place. The tapas and cheese board are amazing. The service is always with a smile and the ambiance is perfect! Open mic night a fave!

We had our Christmas work do here and it was a fabulous festive experience. Richard was a welcoming host and the food was delicious (including the most amazing cheese board). Being able to take some home was a lovely bonus! Will absolutely be back

A hidden Gem. On Walnut Road behind Torquay station opposite the Co-op. This CIC cafe serves amazing food. Licensed bar, evening entertainment such as open mic night and the smallest cinema in Devon! Also bookable for birthday parties and private events. Check out the Facebook page for more info.

If you're ever on the area then a visit to The Blue Walnut is a must. Amazing food with friendly staff and a great atmosphere.

Just popped in for a coffee, it tasted good and was hot (most important to me). The waitress was very pleasant and when not serving she kept herself busy cleaning and shining things up. Relaxing cosy atmosphere.

Lovely staff, polite and welcoming. Lovely pot of tea, didn't eat but food looked lovely. Can buy local cheeses etc there as well

We pop in from time to time and a recent Facebook message brought us in for the "Blue Walnut Croque Monsieur." Absolutely delicious. We also had the potato wedges. A huge portion for just 4 quid. Skin on crispy with fluffy centres. Couldn't leave the left overs which we refried at breakfast the followingday. Bloody lovely. Great little café and cheesemonger. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

This place is a really gem in Torbay serving a lot of local produce including local cheeses you can buy from cabinet and take away. Lots of free parking locally, lots of seating inside with the prettiest little enclosed garden where dogs can visit too. The food was delicious and my blue cheese burger was the best I have ever. The portions are large and quality ingredients used. The atmosphere is relaxed with nice back music and local feel. The waitress was very friendly and checked regularly if had everything we needed. It has a little cinema, lots of evening events and can be hired for private functions. It's a lovely place to visit and everyone is made very welcome.

Blue Walnut Cafe is a exceptional place for Breakfast and Brunch . It has a varied menu to fill most needs . The price is reasonable too and the service is outstanding. An absolute must if your stopping nearby.

We popped in for a coffee on the 10th August whilst our dog was at the vet's and ended up having a full English. I've got to say, it was one of the best breakfast's I've had. The place was lovely and tastefully decorated, staff were attentive and polite. The breakfast was £10 and for what you get is probably not only the nicest but cheapest around!

Had a lovely lunch here today. A delicious - and huge - cheese board and wine in the beautiful garden. There was too much cheese, so the owner boxed up what was left for us to enjoy at home. The owner and the staff for were so friendly and welcoming. We're looking forward to our next visit with friends in a couple of weeks.

A Standout Staple of Devon! We've been coming to this fantastic café for a couple of years now, and have always enjoyed the food and the friendly staff. My wife always orders their excellent kedgeree, which is one of their best dishes in our opinion, as it's very well balanced with seasonings and ingredients. I've sampled most of their main menu items, all of which are great. Today they had a special burger with a Devon blue-cheese , which I had to try. I have to say this was the highlight for me, as the entire burger was perfectly seasoned and cooked; I believe this was the best restaurant burger I've had in a very long time! The place is small, but don't let it fool you. The food is outstanding, and their cocktails are awesome. I'm looking forward to enjoying one of their tapas movie nights!

Fantastic Valentine's Bistro Night, great food, great atmosphere and fab cheeky cocktail creation too!

Fan-bloomin-tastic. Popped in for a morning coffee and it seemed lovely so went back for afternoon drinks. It was so nice we went back for dinner too..delicious and made to feel wonderfully valued and nothing was too much trouble. Would wholeheartedly recommend.

Another great location for coffee or more. The coffee is really good here plus they do some good home cooked food. Lovely staff tops off a well earned positive review. Oh, and they have a very useable outdoor space if you are worried about mixing with people at this point in time.

My regular cafe even though I live on the other side of town. People say Torquay town has no decent cafes, but that’s because the best ones are tucked away like this gem in Chelston’s Walnut road (hence the name). Owner Richard and manager Julia took over what was already a great business and have maintained the quality control, adding regular menu updates and a cheese shop/deli to the mix. Food is always excellent while the service is faultless. Also worth a mention are the regular movie nights in the cosy 23-seat cinema, as well as cocktail nights and various other soirées. Can’t recommend this place enough.

We attended for the Manhatten Shorts Film Festival which consisted of 10 shortlisted films where the audience could vote on their favourites to win the competition. We arrived just in time to get some food and a beer prior to the evening kicking off. There was a short intermission, long enough to refresh your drinks and stretch your legs. Overall, a great venue with a lovely cinema which should be used by more people.

Not visited for a few years, so looked forward to brekky here today. Not disappointed at all! Lovely warm greeting from a friendly lady, seated and served our drinks quickly. Brekky followed, 2 English and 1 poached eggs on toast - all cooked to perfection and really great scrambled on one breakfast! Very happy to recommend once again.

Visited the blue walnut for breakfast following a recommend from friends. Excellent breakfasts and coffees. Polite friendly service. Highly recommend, competitively priced with great quality ingredients.

Went one Friday evening for supper. It was full (we booked) - they’ve had to reduce capacity for covid. The staff were really kind, chatty and friendly. We just had a main each and drinks, and had to leave but really wanted to try their cheese! They made up a mini cheeseboard for us to take away... so tasty and really kind. Needless to say it didn’t last long... We will definitely return when we’re back in the area. Highly recommended.

Wow, what an awesome place!!!!!!!We were looking for somewhere to have breakfast and found this gem of a restaurant!!From the minute we stepped in we were greeted by a lovely friendly lady called Tia, she was just lovely.The children asked to look at the cinema, within minutes we were eating breakfast in there with the kids favourite film on the screen! Tia is the nicest kindest lady, she showed the children the beautiful garden at the back and even put glitter in their milk!!!! As if all that wasn’t enough, moving on to the food.... I had kedgeree which was out of this world, it was by far the nicest I’ve ever tasted!My kids said this was the best place ever!Can’t wait to book in again!This restaurant is an absolute must for everyone to try!Awesome food, awesome staff, awesome place .... totally awesome!!!!!

Booked in for the Sunday Brunch after reading the positive reviews here, and was not disappointed! The staff were super friendly, the food was great as were the cocktails! We enjoyed the whole experience of dining whilst in the cinema.Plenty to choose from on the menu and at very reasonable prices. I would definitely return.

Popped in for some tapas one evening, wonderful food! too full to get to get the cheese board that evening, so popped back the next evening, not disappointed! No doubt a 5 Stars for you Blue Walnut. We would like to thank the owner of “The Blue Walnut”. It was my daughters 18th birthday and she had the best celebration! The food was exquisite and was well prepared by the owner Richard. Also, the drinks were made specially by Tia. Their planning are truly exceptional!Normally they’re closed during Mondays, but they made an exception for my daughter. The cinema is a great size for a small celebration. When the party finished, the kids couldn’t get the party out of their mind, it was truly an amazing experience for all of us. We’re very very happy with our decision to have the party there.Oh, also I had lunch in The Blue Walnut last week. I loved their salt and pepper crispy squid + their Pear salad with Bacon and Chicken fillet! Must try!!

Had a Friday night meal here with crispy squid and a seafood chowder, lovely quirky place, friendly staff and good value for money. Only slight negative was the lack of regard to social distancing amongst regular guests and staff with much hugging and kissing catch up following lock down.

Have frequented this establishment for a number of years now and have never been disappointed. The food here is exemplary as is the service. Would definitely recommend. If you fancy a bit of cheese and a squealer pork pie this is also a must.

Found this place by chance, six of us on a walk, we all thoroughly enjoyed our food and drink and loved the fact we could purchase amazing cheese too. This is a thriving little business, don’t miss it if you are in Torquay.

Richard has worked hard to make this a hub for all kinds of activities in Chelston (just look at the website for events)and I visit as often as I can. I went for lunch this time (chowder) and a coffee. Received the usual good service and enjoyed my lunch. I also picked up some rather tasty cheese from the good varied selection available.

Great quality local food from a great local place making a place to go for the local community. Really good nights out and a great place for a glass or two of wine and the best cheese board in Devon.

We are so lucky to have this little gem of a cafe with a 23 seater Cinema on our doorstep. The food is always lovely as is the welcome and the events in the cafe and cinema are eclectic reaching out to all parts of the community! Check out their Facebook Page for Events and see what I mean. You can hold birthday parties in the cafe and have use of the Cinema which is great for all ages too.

What a lovely place not too big not too crowded and a nice place out of the way from the town centre.

We went there last night for the first time. It was an on the spur of the moment thing. As soon as we got there had the warmest of welcomes. This attentiveness continued throughout the evening. Nothing was too much trouble. Cocktails made to order and delicious. Went into the little cinema that was free and watched some of a Marx Brothers film. Even provided us with free popcorn. A unique experience.We will go back now we have their events programme.

Didn't know what expect on my first visit. Well presented cafe with a range of tapas and drinks. Great coffee and nibbles! Friendly hosts topped off with a film. Great experience in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely cheese deli, great coffee, fab cakes and a good breakfast. A real good all-rounder. Quiet and unassuming so you can get on with work if you need to. It also has live music evenings, open mic nights, and has a little cinema in the back for a touch of quirky!

Great place to have any celebration, food excellent, nice atmosphere,decor is great and the staff are friendly. Cinema time is fabulous.

For some unknown reason they didn't like my recent review and rejected it, despite over 300 so well practiced. So, I shall try again. This is a great location, a welcoming front man and proprietor, Richard, really good food from a rightly short menu, a superb wholesome soup always available. An eclectic range of evening events. A bit pricey for what we wanted

This venue has had its ups & downs during its long history of successive, short-lived owners, the greatest of many being the much missed Mike Edmonds, fondly remembered by all who knew him. Things were never the same after his sad loss -until now, that is.

Great local place. Offering good produce and plenty of cool events such as music gigs and cinema nights.

Since Richard moved the Cheese Press from St Marychurch to Chelston to combine his cheesemonger business with this licensed café I make it over whenever I can. Dan excels in the kitchen. Wonderful wholesome home made soup of the day. Many events. A great little café with a difference.

I had an enormous challenge to provide an Autumn feast for 30+ people for a family reunion in Torquay - with me organising from Edinburgh. Richard at Blue Walnut was fab, giving advice on cheeses, loaning display boards and having my order all wrapped-up ready for a high-speed collection. The cheeses were all delicious and I wowed my family with my knowledge of local Devon cheese! Could not done all this without Blue Walnut, thank you.

Warm welcoming atmosphere. Great tapas. Tiniest cinema I have ever been in showing a great old black and white film. Such a good night out. Will be making it a regular event.

Have never been to this place before but I will certainly be visiting again. The food was so tasty and plentiful. A really lovely little place which is a bit different. Wonderful, attentive staff who made the whole night so enjoyable. You are missing out if you don't pay a visit soon.

Lovely old fashioned style cafe with a very friendly service. Not a vast menu but everything is cooked fresh and is very tasty.

I just popped in for lunch and ordered the ham hock croquettes and they were absolutely delicious. It came with wedges which are the best I’ve ever tasted. I would highly recommend this place for lunch, I’ll be back again that’s for sure.

I'd heard people talking about the blue walnut in one of the local shops, how it was a really lovely place with a great selection of meals and an even better range of things to do and artists to see.

6 of us ate here yesterday morning and it everything about the visit was enjoyable. We were made to feel soo welcome, nothing seemed a problem and the owner was really lovely. The food was to die for. I had crushed avocado on sour dough toast with tomatoes and pochard eggs. It was cooked to perfection.

I had heard great things from friends about this quirky local jaunt and I entered for the first tome today with an unconventional request...I asked the gentleman if he would grind coffee beans for me and offered to pay for the service. He was very kind about my odd request so I quickly ran home to get them and when I returned he had cleaned out his machine completely and explained he hoped it was ok. I was so surprised he would have taken the extra care for me. We got to chatting whilst the beans were grinding and I was amazing at how this charming local spot hosts a variety of activities, including movie nights (it’s got a cinema in the back), live music and even hosts a knitting group once a month. The gentleman, Richard, was so kind he even asked about my mother in law and explained that they nip up to check on many of the elderly residents in the area since their children live out of town. This place not only has a great quirky vibe but clearly it’s community conscious and making an effort to be a positive force in the local area. So impressive. I can tell that Richard really cares, it’s not about the bottom line but the enjoyment and the difference he can make. When my coffee was ready I offered to to and he simply responded to “pay it forward.”

We joined a Summer Party for our club at the Blue Walnut recently - it was an evening event with a buffet and the food was absolutely marvellous, especially considering we paid very little for it. Fresh salmon or smoked salmon sandwiches, Cheese and egg, honeyed sausages, salad, pork pie (top quality) plus, amongst other things a wonderful cheese platter. There was plenty for all. With friends I also have lunch there from time to time and I just think this a great place for a simple but interesting and tasty lunch (or breakfast) at a good price. The menu is carefully designed by an expert and it's always changing. There is also a cheese counter selling a wide variety of delicious English cheeses and pork pies. Parking nearby.

Such a lovely place, friendly staff, and a fantastic selection of produce - particularly the local chillis and cheeses! The tiny cinema is charming, and they have a regularly changing menu and programme of events. Dog friendly both inside and in the courtyard garden. My only complaint is that the opening hours aren't longer!
