The Blue Fin Fish & Chip Shop in York

I placed an order for a delivery from Blue Fin, who we have used before. However, this time they delivered only part of the order, and when I contacted them they refused to complete the order. This left my children hungry. They said that I had to complain via the delivery company, and customer service was not important to them, as they had lots of other customers.

£10 for chips battered sausage curry sauce and a bottle of pop...... wow. Was very surprised at the cost and even asked the question "that's expensive right?

Really annoyed!! Got Haddock and chips at the very expensive price of £10.00 and battered sausage and chips at £6.00. The fish was over cooked, small and the batter was very very thick and rock hard. Basically inedible! I took the fish and chips back into the shop where the young lad behind the counter said he would get me another one. The fryer then asked me what was up with the fish to my surprise. If he didn't know what was up with it he shouldn't be frying fish!!! I got my replacement fish and chips but the batter was that thick I had to hollow the fish out. Very disappointing as this chippy used to be good. Will not be returning anymore

Before i came i looked online at the menu so knew what we was ordering but when i got there the prices were all different so maybe an updated online menu would be good.. Came for haddock and chips to takeaway the place was already busy with people queing . The young girl on the counter was lovely taking my order, she was waiting on the fryer who i found very slow ( have myself worked in the business so know how long things take to cook) . When she did get a few fish she promptly served some of the waiting customers apologising for the delay. After about a half hour wait i finally received my order but when we got home fish was dry and overcooked .

Really fresh fish and chips, good portion size and the best tasting fish l have had for a while. Chips were cooked to perfection

Ordered fish and chips with peas and curry when we got home no curry but gravy instead.Not a good start the fish was over cooked and dry the chips had clearly been cooked for a long time.will not be using this place again.

Ordered on the App last evening was promised 10 minutes. Arrived on time, announced presence but had 30 minutes more wait. Fish were smaller than usual and chips disappointing . Also no salt and vinegar as specified on order. What has happened to our previous favourite chippy?

Today was my first visit to bluefin on tadcaster road mainly because I live at the other side of York so out of my way but I'm glad I tried it as the food was awesome. Proper cooked chips and the fish was a good size and very meaty if you get my meaning. My partner has some of my chips and a battered sausage and she loved it. Will definitely go back again.

Fresh fish, proper chips, awesome curry sauce and massive portions of everything. I had to undo my belt shortly after, and I had to stay like that until bed time. Which is good.

Been here on numerous occasions in different settings i.e. at night-time, during lunch break, after York races and every time the food has been delicious and the people serving have always been friendly. Fish is always good quality and anything else I've had has always matched the quality. Nice clean shop and counter, front of shop always kept clean - Love the place if you hadn't already guessed :)

Called in for fish and chips for 2 the fish was lovely and freshly cooked which is more than I can say for the chips. They were horrible tasted like re fry’s had I been able to I would have taken them back. The mushy peas were also not good very watery and no taste. Will not go back.

The chips are very good, they’ve mastered the art of the chippy fryer and timings and the mushy peas were tasty too. All in a grand portion. They have a great lunchtime offer too. 5.95 for small fish and chips, peas/gravy and a hot drink. Enjoy!

Asked for pie and chips with a splash of gravey ended up with no gravey pie in a little bag and a huge bad of half cooked chips most are in the bin because the potatoes used were bruised and rotten definitely wouldn't recommend this fish shop

Me gustaría darle una mención muy especial a Toni quien da un 110% de servicio a los clientes, ella es un crédito para el atún rojo.

Visitando York por unos días y pasando la tienda en el camino. Como había una cola afuera, pensamos que los lugareños deben saber más. Estacionamiento en las afueras y ofrece pedidos en línea o por teléfono. Pedí un bacalao grande y patatas fritas grandes, dos baps, 2 salsas tártaras, guisantes y salsa de curry que llegó a 13. Las patatas fritas eran buenas, bap grande, guisantes bien y la salsa de curry estaba grumosa en polvo. Sin embargo, el pescado era inferior al estándar y diría que era más como una porción pequeña que grande. No me hubiera gustado ver el pequeño, tal vez un dedo de pescado. ! No tiene sentido ofrecer 3 tamaños de pescado y cobrar para obtener solo una oferta blanda por debajo del estándar. Hemos comido pescado y papas fritas en todo el país, así que sepa cuándo algo es bueno o malo. Demuestran que fueron una de las mejores tiendas de pescado y papas fritas en 2015, que tiene un gran letrero en la ventana, pero parece que nada ganó desde entonces. ¡Creo que quizás pueda ver por qué!

Alojarse en el hotel Marriott aquí y sin embargo me apetecía algo diferente. Y Dios mío. estos eran absolutamente hermosos. Excelente servicio al cliente y muy amigable. . El tamaño de las porciones es más que adecuado. Buen precio y no estaba cubierto de aceite. Muy, muy delicioso. . Vale la pena intentarlo, no te decepcionará. . . gracias por tan encantador pescado y patatas fritas. ¡Ah, y salsa de curry!

Llamamos justo a la hora de cierre el viernes 7 de octubre. El personal era amable y nos ofreció lo que nos habían dejado para comprar.No pudieron hacer lo suficiente y estábamos realmente agradecidos a diferencia de otro cliente que llegó a las 9. 15 y fue tan grosero con las damas que no se lo merecía. Great service, lovely friendly staff, and absolutely delicious fish and chips, couldn't recommend more. They are also dealing with Covid-19 measures very well.

Very friendly staff, quickly delivered. We ordered 2 x haddock and chips. Portions are very big and the food was great and the fish was lightly battered which we prefer which was great!

Since covid they have introduced an app. Ordered online nice and simple and told to collect in 10 mins.Get there and there is a queue of 15 people out the door.No separation between people who had pre-ordered and people who still needed to order.just you need to go to the back and wait....Seriously had they not thought of this. Put the correct waiting time on the app and the have 2 queues outside the shop.So basic and amazing they messed it up.Would advise anyone to steer clear....

In lockdown my neighbour and myself were desperate for fish and chips but because we live in a village find it difficult to get takeaways delivered , until that is I stumbled across Blue Fin Fish & Chip Shop. I phoned the Tadcaster Rd branch to find out how we went about ordering and spoke to Toni , who I have to say was a delight to speak to even though she was nearing the end of a very long shift.The next day we had our fish and chips and they were fantastic only bettered by the fantastic service I had from Toni and Adam , who I feel are my new best friends , I would recommend to anyone who wants a great meal and even better customer service .... will be having again on Friday. Thought this place might be okay when we spotted the Porsche driver outside eating their fish & chips! Asked for large chips & cod but was persuaded to have the fish & chip meal deal (regular chips) by the lovely woman behind the counter. Glad we did as the regular chips overflowed my large plate once home & despite being hungry couldn't eat them all. The cod was fresh cooked to order and delicious. Can't understand why one of the reviewers on here drives to the Wetherby Whaler rather than come here - they are missing a trick!

Since the lockdown began we’ve tried several chippies and this one is the best by a country mile. We order on the app for delivery. The order is either on time or early and is of exceedingly high quality. Crispy batter, big meaty fish and perfect chips without all those horrible little end bits you get sometimes. As a final flourish, the meal is still piping hot. Would recommend without reservation.

We ordered fish and chips recently after a family member recommended them - one of our grouop is a coeliac and the gluten free options did NOT disappoint!Lovely crispy batter and very fresh fish. Two portions of chips with three fish was plenty. We will definitely be back, sooner rather than later!Worth noting that we called in advance to order ours - they re currently serving gf options between 12-3pm, presumably due to staffing levels/covid.

Ordered fish & chips to collect at 6.30pm. Weren't ready until 7.20pm. Totally appreciate it is busy but why take so many orders that you can't fulfil. What an absolute joke!! I hope they are tasty.

We ordered fish and chips the other day to pick up, easy enough though the app. We all really enjoyed it and it was nice to be able to support an independent business as well. Would recommend if you want a nice takeaway meal during lockdown

Telephone bookings required. However no system whatsoever. On arriving at the takeaway was told by other people waiting that they were only taking telephone bookings, but they were only very rarely answering the phone. Two or three of us in the queue tried repeatedly to phone to book our order, and eventually after numerous attempts one of the others got through. He then placed his order, passed his phone onto me and I made my order and then he passed his phone to someone else who did likewise. After about one hours wait the first man got his order followed by the person after me. My order did not get called for another 45 minutes - obviously the orders were not being numbered when received.

Came to York for a holiday and being as we are staying close to this fish and chip shop, we would give them a visit. Freshly cooked and well cooked. Tasted fabulous. Really glad we went there

It was so good we went twice. It’s small and everything is fresh cooked. Great banter while waiting with locals. Fresh and great tasting fish and chips as it should be. It’s all take away but that’s the charm. Give it a go you will not be disappointed. Great value as well.

The food was fresh and tasted great . Went above and beyond with the service to help even though they were closing even helping with plates and cutlery . Would highly recommend .

The taste is perfect cooked to a nice golden crispy appearance both the fish and chips are very well cooked and taste like what fish and chips should taste like , the down fall is the waiting . They cook the fish per order , so you need to wait plus you get it piping hot ... and I can’t wait to eat em so I end up with my mouth burned .

Came here recently again and just love the food staff are brilliant friendly and listen to what you say food is hot and cooked correctly I had a chicken bacon burger and it was fabulous well done to all the staff and management for such a well run place highly recommended I live on the Wirral but love York and will always come back to blue fin shame u don’t deliver to where I live

Wow. Heard this place was good but was really impressed. Crispy light battered fish, really crispy and nicely fried chips but still fluffy inside and nice mushy peas. Highly recommend home made tartar sauce too. Will be back! Thanks.

Mi esposo y yo hicimos un viaje a York, al llegar solo queríamos algo para comer que estuviera caliente y listo, así que paramos en esta tienda de pescado y papas fritas. Me saludaron con una sonrisa y me preguntaron qué me gustaría, el bacalao estaba fresco para nosotros, no tuve que esperar mucho, me sirvieron muy caliente con una cantidad decente de papas fritas. ¡Estaba delicioso! Especialmente el pescado, la masa no era demasiado gruesa y era ligera y crujiente. Hay tanto que ver en York que sé que probablemente volveremos a visitarnos en algún momento y definitivamente haremos una línea recta para este chippy en particular.

Clean and tidy, insufficient staff during lunchtime (one person serving when York races were on). Food was nice but very few chips for the price.

We just had homemade fish cakes and chips and they were fantastic. Never dissatisfied. Great people great food

Gluten free fish and chips - gorgeous crispy batter, generous size portions and a great price! Used to go to another chippy for our gluten free, but never again! Blue Fin is our new go to! Love love love!

Amongst the best fish and chips I have ever tasted although a little expensive compared to many such establishments in North and West Yorkshire. Excellent service if you have gluten free requirements although I would advise phoning to inform them of your requirements.

Been a resident for 20+ years. Have tried a number of chip shops over the years but this remains the best (in my opinion). Always have it in a box though if driving back!

I visited this fish and chip shop with my mum to buy lunch for our family and were greeted by the most lovely lady. She was very welcoming, helped us out with our food choices when we were dithering and then served us the most delicious fish and chips. The wait was minimal but well worth it!

Visited this afternoon on a very wet Valentine's day while out and about. Asked the lady for small Fish and Chips. Absolutely fantastic, best Fish and Chips i've had in years. Beautiful chips and perfectly cooked fish. Beautiful. Shall be returning when i am back in York. Would certainly recommend. I live in Doncaster and would travel to York just to eat them. Brilliant. Great staff too. Very friendly.

I was in Blue Fin Fish and Chips on Tadcaster road York 11/2/2018 and the fish and chips was amazing and staff were very friendly and helpful to us will definitely recommend them to everyone for the good food and great customer services thank you and will be back soon .

Sick of going over to Tesco for a sarnie for my lunch, I thought I'd try the chippy down the road. So glad I did! Bloody lovely fish and a battered sausage. Had to wait 4/5 mins for fish to cook.Guy who served me was very friendly and said if I phoned up in future the food could be ready to collect. Will defo be returning

The fish n chips at this lovely fish shop are just delicious. Your order is taken as you walk through the door so everything is cooked to order and fresh. We ate them from the paper so the batter was omg THE BEST.

We bought two wee fish suppers from you tonight, they were delicious, piping hot, freshly fried, very good value for money, the portion was huge and it was all sold to us with a smile, what a great wee chip shop you have.

Having recently moved to the area we thought we'd try the local chippy, and we weren't desapointed. The staff were polite and helfpful and the food was great! Can't see any one of the other reviewers complaints and I hope they're sorted out now.

The fish and chips here were THE best I've ever eaten, the fish was so white and fresh and the batter was cooked to perfection.Chips were delicious and sweet and the spicey curry sauce was delicious. Worth coming back to York if not just for the fish n chips.

Although both the fish and chips were cooked to order as the shop was empty at 7.45 in the evening, the fish was grossly overcooked and dry. The chips were underdone and hard although there was a staggeringly large amount. We threw most of the food in the bin. Far from being the number 1 chippy in York, this establishment has declined to such an extent that I would not recommend it to anyone.

This fish shop is one of the Best , friendly staff and quality fish and chips all the time , if you want great fish and chip this shop is a must.

went for our usual fish and chip friday, we thought we would try bluefin for a change and we had heard nothing but positive reviews. ordered one fish and chips with spicy curry sauce and 1 chips and peas. the food was dire, never would i go back there again. fish was lame the chips were cold and the curry consistency was more like gravy. got home after our fish and chips and felt sick for the rest of the night...AVOID AVOID !!!! </3

This is an award winning Fish and Chip shop and that shows in the quality, taste and presentation of the basic Fish and Chip meal, staff are also pleasant and efficient

Convenient and fresh cooked is the best description. however got orders mixed up resulting in delays and long queues. carry on into York for much better fish and chips.

Used to be such a lovely chippy for our weekly treat. But was very put of by the gentleman cooking in a grubby bandana!! He had very dirty hands and grimy nails! As a staff nurse of the last 32 years, infection control is high on my list of wants from a food service provider. Not sure how they have managed a '5' food hygiene rating. At this rate they will be lucky to keep it!BUYER BEWARE!!!

I have been one of the unfortunate member of the public to believe this shop is no1 ,but when I received my fish and chips after having to wait on fish being cooked the fish was dry as boards and overcooked to hell and not to mention the chips were like a fatty mess , and I do not think the service is no1 either ,,fish fryer looking like they asleep and just staring at you making you feel intimidated ,,and a dark haired lass that cant smile but take your money, all in all the blue fin is the worst chips ive had in Yorkshire in my life ,,thomsons fish and chips is the no1 chipshop in York ,,,you should try it and compare there fresh fish to this dry crap from here

Best fish and chip shop in york. You can order by phone then collect. The portions are HUGE. We usually get one portion of chips between 3 of us, although you do have the option of portion size. The fish is very fresh and of an exceptional quality.

Came across fish and chip shop by accident as it was up the road from where we were staying.Choice of fish and excellent service and attention. All food cooked to order which means you do not get those fish cooked earlier and lying in a heated cabinet.Highly recommended

On a chilly dark evening sitting on a stool that Drew Pritchard would like to buy for a tenner at the short eating bar in a draughty fish & chip shop, what could be better than a really nice piece of fish in crispy batter sitting on a tray of hot chips and scraps?Nothing.

The fish was nice but the chips were hard and crunchy. They gave us hundreds, but totally inedible! I wouldn't go here again. Very disappointing.

Friendly atmosphere, fantastic food and we will be back next time we are in Skegness. We took our 93 year old grandad in his wheelchair and they were amazing.

Quality Haddock, chips and mushy peas. Predominantly a take away although 3 stools and a small bench so can eat in should the need arise.

We were told that this chip shop was amongst the best in Yorkshire and as it was local to our rented cottage, we decided to try it for our Good Friday evening meal during our Easter stay in York. We were not disappointed, the food was perfect, although a little on the large size for us. It is a very popular place and can get quite busy at peak times. We had to join a queue on the pavement and wait for the food to be cooked, but it was worth the wait.

Visited for a portion of fish & chips. Quite a wait as we realised a phone order was being put together along with another customer being served. Strong smell of unclean fat when we walked in and food not much better. Chips were binned!

I regularly visit this fish and chip shop for gluten free fish and chips they are always fantastic and they do them all the time not like some establishments that only do gluten free on a certain day.

Had fish and chips here after reading the reviews on trpadvisor. Timed it right and did not have a long wait. Fish was made to order and portion was huge. Very tasty and would definitely te ommend.
