Paid for 5 meals only got 3 and a half 2 bags off chips missing gutted and chips were cold normally we prefer Barton’s to fish and chips at the sea side

Just had a delivery.Fish was great as usual.... but the chips were hard and anaemic... Very disappointed....

3 times i’ve ordered from here and each time it’s taken over 2 hours for food to be deliver had to ring multiple times each order to ask where my food was. they don’t answer the phone i tried calling 11 times before they answered took just under 3 hours for food to come

The staff are so accommodating and go above and beyond, the food is amazing and I wouldn't go anywhere else.xxx

Large Cod , very large , excellent !

The chips were dripping in so much grease that we couldn't eat them. The fish was dry too.

Mushy peas are swimming in water,sausage and chips undercooked. Just had another order and and they put chips in a box but wrap a cheeseburger in paper which now looks like roadkill

Absolutely massive portions. Got 3 medium fish and chips but we only managed one portion of chips between us!! Very tasty. Only bad point is the battery was quite thick and a little greasy.

Ordered two small fish and a scoop of chips with each, they were collected at a specific time and were probably the worst fish and chips I have ever bought, chips were cold and dry,fish was a slither of meat with a batter that was rock hard on the outside and soggy on the inside , I have used this chippy for years and they have gradually got poorer in quality over time (in my opinion) They also charge £3 to deliver the 300 meters from their shop to my address, on this occasion they were collected,never again.

This chip shop never dissapoints. I especially love their Chinese curry sauce.

Massive portions. Good fresh quality food. Came earlier than the time said which was good! I ordered 2 meal deals which include a drink, the drinks had been missed so I rang the shop and they quickly sent them out. Very polite staff member on the phone and the delivery driver. Thanks guys 😊x

This is probably the best chippy in Yorkshire. The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. An extensive menu with burgers as well. The pies are a hot seller so get in early. The fish is amazing and the portions are very generous. If toy have not tried Barton chippy I suggest you give it a go.

Ordered fish and chips x2 and a sausage for my dog. When my order came it was cold and I was looking so forward to them. I payed just short of 30 pound for them. Even the peas and curry sauce was cold. So if you like hot food don't go to Bartons in york. All had to go in bin.

Never will I go here again last week paid £15.60 for large haddock and chips, small cod and curry sauce. This week they want £23.80 your having a laugh yes Bill's have gone up etc, as they have for everyone but nothing can justify a £7.20 price rise ridiculous

Great quality fish and chips etc. They do have 'meal deals' and small bites. We go there every Friday for work (Fish n chip Fridays are popular) and we've never had any complaints

Disappointed that this is cash only. It wouldn't be so bad if there was a cashpoint close by but there simply isn't. Drove to get fish and chips only to find I couldn't. So ended up going to Chips and things in Acomb.

Fish better than the chips, big portions, be hungry. Too many crispy and dry chips for my liking, prefer large and fresh soft ones, would rather have fewer of them than a bucket-load I throw away.

How can you say Best Fish & Chips. Fish the blandest I've ever had, the chips are a joke, looked like yesterday's. Must be the worse chippy in the country.

Lovely fish and chips. Good portion sizes and fish was cooked in a lovely crispy batter. Like the way that the fish is always wrapped separately from the chips. Friendly staff always willing to help. Highly recommended.

Good value for money each and every time

Excellent haddock and chips and curry sauce, they were delivered warm/hot and within the time they stated. Delivery driver was excellent and was wearing mask and even though he looked a little bit like heinrich himmler was polite and professional. I will definitely order off Bartons again A++++++

Just had a delivery from Bartons and we were delighted by how hot the food was on arrival. Great quality and portion sizes. The fish was delicious and perfectly cooked. Very pleasant staff member who delivered our order too. Easy to order on line and delivered in just over an hour.

My what excellent service ref phone and home delivery. I would ignore previous review huffing and puffing ref masks!! Outdoors and most places you don’t have to. The food was first class. Well cooked , hot and delicious. All in recyclable packaging. Excellent. I would say portions are definitely over generous for one. Fab experience. Recommend indeed.

Good food great prices but if customers have to wear masks surely the delivery drivers that come in the customers side should too.

THE WORST customer service I’ve ever experienced in my life!! We ordered our food online at 7:24pm with it stating it would be delivered within the hour. We received no confirmation email or receipt so I called the shop to check they had our order which they had, and they took a contact number incase the driver needed it for delivery. At 8:10pm it was 45 mins since ordering so I called to check where our order was, and we called over 20 times with no answer with the shop closing in under 30 mins. I tried messaging on Facebook and got no reply. When Lynne finally answered at 8:35pm, it was the most horrendous customer service I have EVER experienced. I asked where our order was and said I wasn’t happy that it was 75 mins since ordering and no one had called me to say it would be late etc, to which she corrected me it was 70mins saying ‘you ordered at 7:25pm. So it’s 70mins not 75’. I was taken aback that she was actually arguing over five minutes with me and being petty, especially when we still didn’t have food. I requested compensation for the delay and poor communication. She offered 10% off which I wasn’t really happy with especially with how she’d spoken to me. After back and forth debating, I was taken aback yet again with her attitude throughout this and told her that, to which she told me ‘your attitude stinks too. Don’t speak to me like that’ I ended the conversation there as I didn’t know what else to say to someone who had total disregard for any level of customer service and clearly didn’t give a damn. She said it had been a busy Friday night and they didn’t have enough drivers, so I suggested maybe to let people making online orders know this when the order is placed, or not guarantee delivery within the hour if they can’t fulfil it to which she replied ‘well we’ve just been really busy’. I was totally aghast at not what she was saying but the attitude she was speaking with. My partner overheard the whole conversation and was appalled at her manner so called her himself. She gave him nothing but pure bad attitude and grief as he requested compensation for the order, and stated he wasn’t pleased with how she’d spoken to me, and SHE cancelled our food order, told us not to go to the shop and then HUNG UP!!! She was laughing down the phone at him and generally just didn’t give a damn at all, we were totally shocked and both said we’ve never experienced anything like it. He called again to try and speak to her about our order, to which someone else answered, he asked for Lynne as it wasn’t her, and the the person then said into the shop ‘it’s your friend’ clearly to Lynne. He spoke to her and said he knew she was up for an award with The Press and said he was sure they’d like to know about her attitude towards her customers to which she replied ‘I don’t care about The Press’! He wanted to go in the shop to meet her and discuss this debacle further with her, but again she refused to meet, and he only wanted to meet as she wouldn’t resolve it over the phone! I have been a regular customer of Barton’s for years, since the days they were on Green Lane, and have previously recommended them to others, so we were devastated to be spoken to and treat in such a manner. Clearly don’t give a damn about their loyal customers at all, and it’s made us decide never to return and will be saying the same to others. Don’t want to be giving my hard earned money to someone who doesn’t care about receiving it or ensuring customer satisfaction.

Not very good anymore, the last time I purchased from there I didn't enjoy at all...fish was tasteless and full of grease and chips undercooked, I put this down to a one off as i have had good meals from here before but sadly yesterday was the worst.... again undercooked fat drenched chips and over greasy fish, all went straight in the bin, i will not be returning again... thats for sure.

Would normally always give this chippy a 5 star, however, delivery staff smoking by the front door was a real disappointment. I despise having to walk through anybodys smoke to enter any establishment.

Large portions and tasty, but a bit greasy. Staff worked hard to clear queue, but also have to deal with telephone orders. Price good for size of meal, recommend you buy one bag of chips for every two fish. You can also park outside which is handy. Long line outside at popular times, patience is a virtue 😃

Ordered 3 £4.80 regular haddock, received three of these.. tiny, poor quality and totally disappointing. Only realised after 21:00 so had no opportunity to call the restaurant.

We have great fish and chips in York (Wetherby Whaler and Thompsons come to mind) but this is absolutely the best. I have looked for chips like they used to taste when I was young and this place delivers just that. Dont bother with Millers in Haxby just because they won fish and chip shop a couple of years ago. Bartons is the way to go!😋👍

Their delivery driver is awful, she goes up and down narrow residential streets at over 30 mph and shouts abuse at pedestrians crossing them. Would not order from them after that

I'm a semi regular here and have never been disappointed yet. I can't understand a previous reviewer's comments about the staff because they are constantly welcoming and cheerful. This is one of the best in York, try it please!

Rude slow service, poor hygiene staff wiping noses and mouths on sleeves, took ages to get served staff didn't even seem bothered or apologise. Food was greasy undercooked and small portions, dont go! Go to wetherby whaler instead much better.

He estado en esta tienda antes y siempre tuve un buen servicio y un producto de calidad, pero acabo de volver y pensé que el chico detrás del mostrador era un desgraciado, pedí pescado y papas fritas grandes tenía un buen tamaño pero estaba frío cuando llegué a casa y solo vive a 5 minutos de la tienda, la vergüenza realmente porque con un poco más de esfuerzo hubiera sido perfecto. Volvería otra vez, sí, y espero que tengan personal diferente y la comida estaba caliente, si no, iría a otro lugar.

We ordered 2 large fish and WOW only the biggest and best fish ever. And the price was very good in deed. My wife and I will be regulars from now on. The staff are friendly to.

The chips were very scrappy the fish was rubbery and iv never seen baked beans like that before so will definitely not be going back..
