Don’t know whether the staff change, but we went in here today and the woman was miserable and abrupt the fish and chips was disgraceful and overpriced We ate it upstairs and it was very filthy Chips where warm-ups Fish was very greasy Very, very disappointed

I asked for gluten free fish and chips as I entered. No issues at all they even told me the vinegar was gluten free. I have to say, the batter was the most delicious batter I've ever eaten. It was light and crispy and so tasty. They have a vegetarian menu too. Would recommend 100%.

Very friendly and polite people, however I found the fries extremely fatty and soft and the fish the same, don't know if this is how it's supposed to be since it was my first fish and chips

Really nice place. Food is absolutely delicious, all tasted freshly cooked and wasn't greasy or anything. Service is fast (obviously varies depending on whether you have something cooked to order or not) - we did have to wait for one of the vegan options but didn't mind so much. On that topic, it does have a separate vegan menu if you are so inclined. Pretty sure it's cooked separately too, I didn't ask but we had a vegan with us who I assume did. Has seating, but very limited places to sit inside. Loses a star BC the bathroom was filthy when I went in, and absolutely reeked. Next time will just hold it in 😂

Good portion size and okay haddock, but strange taste to chips which were also soggy

We normally love this place but our last trip left us feeling ill as the chips were incredibly greasy and didn't taste very nice? I've given it a 3* as it's only been recently the quality seems to be going down, I hope they improve!

Disappointed with the vegan fish and chips. It’s very low effort for an excessive price. The ‘fish’ is just two dull slabs of pea protein. They don’t batter them like the regular fish - it’s more like the coating on quorn nuggets, but not as crisp.

I had a vegan fish and chips. The vegan fish was nice, the tartare sauce was incredible. I could not rate the chips though, not for me. They were crispy and well cooked but did not taste nice. Perhaps I’m too used to the taste of my local chip shops in Birmingham! Staff were really nice.

I did an order on delieveroo, prices weren't too bad and the order was delivered within 30 minutes which was excellent (fish was still hot!). I also ordered some onion rings and a mars bar - however, I have never eaten a deep fried mars bar before!! So I thought I'd try one and they are very, very sickly sweet 😋

Vegan fish and chips were lovely! They even had batter bits, although cooked in the same oil some people would not have them, however, the vegan food is cooked separately for those that require it! The staff were ever so lovely.

Shocking chippy and overly priced, can't believe they can justify 2.95 for a tiny tray off chips, & 1.79 for small tub off gravy. Get a grip. When there is a cost of living crisis

Yay for gluten free fish and chips! It was a small fast food establishment and the staff were friendly. They charged extra for ketchup which was weird and they didn’t have lemon but all together was excited to get to eat fish and chips.

One to avoid if you actually need gluten free food! I was super excited to find a chippy that did gluten free, but when the food turned up nothing was labelled - so there was no way to tell what was part of my meal and was gluten free and what was other people’s! No one answered the phone when we rang to try and clarify the situation - so sadly not appropriate if you need to be confident you’re getting gluten free food.

Should be clearly stated that this is a cash only business! Won't be using them again

We came for lunch, we're vegan and the chips gravy and potato scallops were delicious, staff were knowledgeable and friendly, would definitely recommend.

Great chippy! We spent 4 days in York and twice ate here the food was lovely. Great fish and chips and curry sauce and chips we found the quality consistently good.

Food was great 👍🏾 and hot unlike some fast food places in the area, only one thing we did not like was the cleaning up after customers after they left, tables and the floor could do with a clean, apart from that the foods good.

Mr Chippy ... I have to be honest, not a good experience. I'm the guy who brought the bottle of Fanta back (after my son had taken a drink) because it had "bits" floating in it. He had Chips & Beans, I had Chips and Curry Sauce. In fairness, the Curry Sauce was nice. The chips however were not. Really dry and loads of burnt ones that needed sieving out. £11.07 and after 3 mouthfuls it all ended up in the bin.

Forced into visiting York this Saturday but made worthwhile by discovering this gem. Great quality and rapid service at a pleasing price. Highly recommended.

Visited here with my friend on Monday. The staff were very helpful regarding us needing to have gluten free fish and chips and us asking questions. We were also pleased to find their vinegar and mushy peas are also gluten free. It would be a great addition if they could offer gluten free curry sauce. The fish and chips were very generous portions and piping hot. Plus they only took 5 minutes to cook. The only down side is that you have to carry your food upstairs if you want to sit in, but we were fine with this. Also for fish and chips twice, 2 mushy peas, 2 drinks it was £27 which is pretty steep, but I suppose you pay a bit more in York. Look forward to visiting here again. Highly recommend.

Fish was nice and a decent size. Chips were only so-so, but again a good portion size - in fact I couldn’t eat them all at one sitting. Friendly and efficient service. I’ll go again when my regular chippy is closed.

My 3rd visit, won't go again, food wasn't as good, place didn't look, clean, grubby toilet,floor covering a top of stairs torn, stuck down with duct tape, accident waiting to happen, the lad who served us was beyond pleasant, but his clothing didn't look too clean, as a person who has worked in catering, trained 100s of people in health & hygiene, & health and safety at work, the whole place was off putting.

So disappointing. Didn't want salt and vinegar putting on my fish and chips but it was covered in them so the batter was so soggy and I don't enjoy the taste of vinegar so left half of it anyway. Some chips were nice and some were hard and inedible. The gravy was watery and very expensive for it to be so runny and not overly tasty. Wouldn't get it again.

Booked for a fish and chip cruise but that was cancelled due to the bad weather, no way I was going to miss out on a fish and chips Friday! I have mobility difficulties so I order online, I've had f & c's from here a few times and I'll always order again and again, every time my delivery arrives its always piping hot and makes my Friday complete! Put it this way I'll be driving from Warrington for the fish. The chips are amazing, the gravy is amazing too... the fish... the fish is elite! The fish is crispy, its a chunky fillet and it's full of flavour. Zoe was amazing at serving us even after a few beers really friendly staff and the fish 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽 100% recommend.

Went while visiting York couple of weeks ago instantly made to feel at ease given I'm ceoliac and ordering gluten free. No loss in taste, big portions and great staff

BE CAREFUL IF GLUTEN FREE! GF LABEL PUT ON WRONG BOX Ordered fish & chips via Deliveroo and when they arrived I wasn't convinced the gluten free fish looked right, initially becuase a large portion had been ordered for the GF version and then becuase the GF fish batter looked different to when previosuly ordered. THANKFULLY called to query this and established the GF sticker had been put on the wrong box, although was still very much down to guess work. Had it been someone who hadn't ordered before and just ate the one with the sticker on could have ben very poorly indeed. No real apology or attempt to give certainty which was very disappointing given the potential harmful consequences of their error **UPDATE - Emailed them several times since as per their request below for further information and not received any acknowledgement or response!

Worst Fish and Chips we have had in ages. Batter was soggy, chips were hard and cold. Half the order was missing. We sat in the upstairs area yet were given a wooden fork to eat with and no napkins. No sauces were offered either. We had to take our own food and drink upstairs ourselves. No teapots for tea just made up in a paper mug. Only positive was the friendly young girl serving at the counter.

We came here twice. They can cook a Gluten Free and Coeliac safe fish and chips here. The service was great. The fact that my child could eat fish and chips (GF without worrying about cross-contamination) really made my day and hers! They took the right level of care with the preparation. We all really enjoyed the meal. It was our last day and leaving by train, so I rang and ordered in advance, then I jogged over the 1km to pick the GF fish & chips and then jogged back - so my child could enjoy a lovely meal. Thank you to all the team. The effort that they make to properly prepare GF coeliac safe is amazing!

We booked a dinner Monday to Thursday while on a school residential trip. The menu was varied and delicious and they delivered to different locations every day. Our delivery man could not have been kinder and bent over backwards to help us. The food was hot and tasty and arrived promptly: no mean feat when there were 47 of us! Well done Mr Chippy! Highly recommended 👌

Love that vegan fish and chips are offered - unfortunately, this was just battered banana blossom without any additional flavouring (e.g. wrapped in nori), so was quite bland and disappointing. Hopefully this can be improved!

I was in today and the service was slow and fish overcooked , not like the cod from jennys fish and chips ,,,, fab While I was there a woman who seemed to be the boss and the fryer were both giving orders to a young girl member of staff not using her name and referring to her as ,, her , she , all this in front of multiple customers Absolutely disgraceful abuse to staff Before leaving I did speak to the fryer and voice my disgust Jamie

Best place to go for fish and chips and mushy peas. I've had there battered sausage and cheese burger too. Everything I've had has been delicious. They have a good variety for vegans and gluten free. Cans and bottles of pop also tea and coffee. Friendly, warm welcoming staff. The manager max is fantastic.

Usually try nearby Drake's when in the city centre but thought I'd have a go at this. Friendly guy serving, though not the quality or value of Drake's a few hundred metres away. Cashing in on the tourist pound. Neither place is cheap though.
