Perfect chips. Love them so much. Irish curry is gorgeous. Great staff. Hard working attentive staff. Clean. The only reason I give 4 not 5 is they come in polystyrene boxes which makes the grease pool, batter steam and is horrific for the environment (illegal since Oct 23) and the Julian Sturdy flyer. But overall fish and chips here are a brilliant choice.

I visited this place in between work. It totally deserves 5 starts, chips were nicely cooked, tasted really nice and fresh the staff where very friendly even though they where busy there standards did not slip

OMG this was the best food we have had from a a fish and chip shop ever. Great portion size, nice and warm, super tasty and crunchy. Great for a delivery service. Will definitely recommend and use again. Thank you Eric and team - super friendly service and quick delivery.

I visited this fish shop in New Earswick because our usual shop in Huntington was closed due to holidays. It is a well established business offering the usual fish shop fare. There is a small eating area inside suitable for about 12 & a table outside for 2. At the time there were 5 men sat awaiting their orders, which is the usual routine nowadays of shops only cooking when a choice has been made & paid for. Due to earlier orders mine for cod & chips to go, took about 15 mins before being well wrapped in white paper. They were a good size & delicious. C Robinson

Was so looking forward to my fish chips mushy peas tonight I opened box wat a shock it looked like a battered kipper soggy batter I was expecting crunchy golden crispy batter wat a let down at £12.60 delivery thanks for delivery but never again

Spur of the moment visit for fish and chips ,wish we hadnt bothered , not sure that that the cod was actually cod, very very greasy and very soggy fish., tough chips ,solid mushy peas. Never again.

The food is so delicious and cooked perfect wouldnt go to any others chip shop as banner fish &chips cafe is the best and the prices of the food is worth paying and there always busy so that's a good sign that the food is divine Please visit this chip shop you can sit inside and eat and you can takeaway.

Just arrived in York from Hertfordshire, found Banners in Google search, Absolutely fantastic fish and chips and haggis and chips, very fast delivery great delivery driver Would recommend to anyone who is hungry

haven’t updated prices so it was an extra £10 when we got there, they hadn’t cooked any of our fish even though we ordered over the phone - put the phone down on me 3 times when i rang to complain. Disgrace.

Stopped here for the first time and really nice fish and chips at a reasonable price. Great for parking and even seats inside to wait.

Just used Banners for the second time this year, supplying fish and chip suppers to a caravan rally that I run. I could not have asked for service to be any better, it was absolutely brilliant on both occasions from beginning to end. Everything supplied as ordered and bang on time. Handed over to 64 caravanners who had just arrived for a weekend in York. Each and every one complimented on how nice the food was. Excellent fresh fish, both cod and haddock. Great price too. And chips cooked to perfection. Lovely clean premises. The service from Eric and his daughter ( and granddaughter) was outstanding. A very well done, and we’ll be sing you again next time we visit York. Many thanks

Visited and got two haddock and chips soggy chips tasteless and so bad I ate a few and binned the rest. The worst chips I have had in over a decade. The fish was cooked in a really thin batter not crisp totally soggy stuck to the wrapping paper so exposed the fish and was dripping in oil. Fish size was small for a medium and not cheap with a miniature carton of peas. Total rip off what’s going on in York or New Earswickto be precise really disappointed. It’s not difficult to get it right. Poor potatoes, oil not hot enough, batter consistency wrong and a someone who takes no pride in his craft/cooking all apparent here. I will NOT be going back. Why is it we have to put up with this it won’t keep going at this rate or people just given up complaining.

Excellent fish chips, whether with peas, curry, or gravy, not forgetting the salt and vinegar if reqd. Well known establishment, along with the well known owner. Service is impeccable and also given with a smile and a bit of craic and banter.

Only reason for the 4 star rating is because I think the opening hours should be changed to close at 9 or 10pm, I think it would increase business. Everything else, the service, the food is lovely 5*

Visited a few times over the past few months, the staff are always super friendly, quick to serve and the fish was good. No Tartare sauce though!? Would go again.

Me and my family regularly visit Banners and every time we've been it's been faultless. Always delicious, fresh and hot!

We have tried Banners twice over the last couple of months on a Saturday lunch time - staff very friendly and polite but the chips really aren’t very pleasant

I cannot fault this establishment. We visited on a Friday lunchtime when pupils from the local school were very much in evidence. That being the case, the staff were excellent and although the queue was long, they got through the orders quickly. The food was well cooked and still warm when we got home. It was also high quality. This has to be the second best chip shop in the York area after Osbaldwick.

Fish and Chips - there is nothing good I can say - Even the man who served us was off hand and just grunted. Chips were over cooked and burnt, batter on fish was soggy and stuck to wrapping. As previous reviewer states - you only get one chance at a first impression.

We had just returned from holiday and so a call at the chippy seemed the ideal solution. The two young lads were just about to close up but we were not to be disappointed. I had a lovely piece of fish with golden crispy batter and hubbie had a pie, both with chips. No complaints with the service or quality.

My husband and I have just had fish and chips from Eric Banners fishy in New earswick. We give you 10 out of 10 for your fish, it was large with crispy batter and a lovely white fish. Met Eric for the first time and what a great bloke, his young assistant was a cheeky young man just the way I like them he he. We would recommend this fishy to one and all.

Like another customer I was short changed but only by a small amount. Could not be bothered to go back, but will not call again.

I went into the chip shop and I orded 2 portions of chips one with a sausage and a tub of mushy peas and the bill came to exactly £5 and I gave them a £20 note and I only got a £5 note back I realised when I got home so after I did the school pick up run and took my friends little girl to kids club I then went back into the shop and told the man in charge and he told me when he cashed up the till it came to the exactly the right amount it is suppose to also you don't get many chips for the price they are so just be careful and check your change before leaving the shop

Lovely fish n chips batter crisp n plenty of chips friendly staff varied menu not to be missed . They do specials which are great value some include drinks plus peas or mushy peas of curry sauce

Mi familia y yo hemos estado utilizando la tienda de pescado en el Banner como llevar muy regularmente (prácticamente semanal) por un número de años. Estamos parcial de pescado tradicional y patatas fritas y he probado unos cuantos establecimientos en York. Puedo decir sin reserva que Banner es la mejor que he probado.

Me encantó mi experiencia aquí, el ambiente era bueno. el personal era amable. La joven rubio freidora y chica trabajo hizo reír a todos con sus bromas, y, a pesar de que estaba ocupado la calidad no disminuyó. La comida es deliciosa, perfectamente. Mi marido y yo volveré pronto!

This seems to be going down hill, apart from trying to evade the school children that use it as their daily ritual, the last time I had take out, by the time I got it home the batter that used to be light and crispy was overcooked and there was barely any fish, seen more fish on an anchovy....
