The Blue Fin Fish & Chip Shop in York

Usually lovely fish and chips from here, but today all 5 portions of the chips we ordered alongside the fish were rock hard like bullets and very overcooked, they looked like they'd been warmed up again, maybe a handful were edible, very disappointing!!

miserable woman at the counter. impatient and rude. just threw our food into a bag without even putting it in a tray- had to go back and ask for one. extremely poor

Bought one fish separate and a large chips and scraps. Fish was fresh and ok. Chips been in warmer for ages absolutely awfull. The server could see what state they were in when serving. Will not use again I wish I'd read reviews before buying.

Not great, family fish and chips for tea. £38 for 2 portions of chips, 2 mushy peas and 4 large fish? The fish was over cooked and dry and very small for a large fish. Chips did not seem fresh. Will not go again.

Been fancying the halloumi sticks for ages! Went yesterday & paid £17.20 for halloumi sticks, small chips, a fish & can of pop. Chips very dry & had to put more vinegar on that was completely tasteless. I got 4 tiny halloumi stick no bigger than 4 chips, the sweet chilli sauce was like ketchup with a bit of chilli added (not nice) will not go back i feel completely ripped off. The girl serving however was very polite and the food was cooked well but the quantity and quality very poor.

Used to be really really good - was more expensive than average for fish and chips, but really good quality and massive portions, so was worth it. However, the last two orders now when we ordered large cod (over £10 per ‘large’ cod!), what we have received is what they used to class as a small size cod. I know this for sure as we have also ordered small cod before. I complained last time and was told it was because they were training new staff, but it’s clearly not. Unfortunately won’t be using them again as at over £30 for fish and chips, this reduction in value is just not acceptable.

The cod and the batter surrounding it were cooked to perfection, I very rarely say that. We sat in the shop to eat, very clean, healthy size portions. Will definitely go again. Excellent.

Went in for a Haddock and chips and mushy peas to take away first week of September 2022. Cost £11 the chips were soggy greasy and some raw the fish was Haddock which again was soggy and not crispy. They are not wrapped up properly simply put in a bag with no interior wrapping and grease proof paper. My walk is less then 3 minutes walk away. So they were cold when I got back. I can tell you they must have been cooked in vegeatable oil which simply was not hot enough young guy frying no pride in quality. When this was a Harpers of Wetwang chippy amongst two others in York they were superb shame they sold them and they got rebranded Blue Fin and are run by seperate owners. Total waste of money totally disappointed. People of York why put up with really poor overpriced rubbish. Is it really not hard to supply a hot crispy product not oily trash. I seldom complain or moan but this is a joke. Not happy to say the least. Haddock is better skin on fried in really hot dripping not luke warm vegetable oil just saying…..

We have used this take away in the past, it was good in the past, on this occasion it was really poor. Very small portion, cod and chips and price was expensive. No haddock offered as it would be an extra £3 which all seems crazy. Won’t bother here again.

Not sure if it’s changed hands, but seemed to be all different staff from normal. The fish was smaller than usual and far fewer chips than normal. The fish and chips are usually great, but this was poor

i went To Blue fin on Monday the 1st of november To Get Myself a large fish and chips as a treat for myself and the workers there we super Jen was excellent as she was super nice and helpful. the fryer made some insane fish witch i would give 10/10 would eat again. there was also a boy in training and he was doing quite good to say he was new. lovely food if you have time to go on any night i would really recommend it! good job!

Pretty decent fish and chips, and the curry sauce was pretty tasty too. Have certainly had worse than this.

This is the third time I have ordered from Blue Fin to be delivered and there has been something missing in the order. I wouldn't mind if when I rung up the missing items get sent out but i rung up to be told this can't be sent out because there's nobody else in the shop. I was just told to ring up Deliveroo and speak to them. I haven't ordered my food to only get some of it and waste money, it was pushed onto deliveroo and said nothing could be done when it's down to the shop to check the order.

Fish and chips were ok, and peas very nice but they’re a grumpy bunch in there. Get yourself down the road, to the opposite end of Melrose Gate for better quality and better service.

The one place I can trust for fish and chips in York. I have tried a few in the area and none compare with regards to the quality and friendliness of staff! Would definitely recommend.

Always been reluctant to buy fish and chips because of the grease. However these were fantastic. Not dropping in grease and really tasty. Great portions and lovely staff

Stopped by late friday. Haddock n chips. Wasnt expecting any thing special But what we were served up was Possibly the best I ever had. Cheers guys. Was only visiting. Found you by accident. Would come again!

¡No es bueno! He estado varias veces (principalmente por conveniencia) pero no me ha impresionado. El personal es amable, pero la comida no es increíble. Pescado y patatas fritas grandes con una pequeña porción de patatas fritas. Masa dura sobre la salchicha. Los guisantes estaban acuosos y no sabían frescos. Calidad media del pescado. Me siento mal pero solo estoy dando una opinión honesta. Me gustaría decir que tal vez uno solo, pero ya lo ha sido un par de veces. No creas que volveré, ya que es una decepción. Lo siento

Nuestra reunión familiar (¡27 de nosotros!) Fue perfecta gracias a un fabuloso té chippy gracias a estos chicos. Pedí por adelantado las comidas y estaban todas listas para recoger a la hora indicada, todas empaquetadas y etiquetadas con nombres. Servicio fantástico y comida incluso mejor. gracias !

Vengo a York de vez en cuando, pero solía llamar con bastante regularidad (una vez cada dos meses durante 30 años) y era un placer esperar esto, el chippy más cercano a donde vivía mi m - i - l. Desafortunadamente, esta noche del 8 de junio estuvo al borde de lo horrible: me pongo ácido si no tengo la masa crujiente, la cosa empapada no es agradable y eso es lo que obtuvimos.No fue una buena comida ya que la masa estaba húmeda y empapada, las papas fritas no salieron directamente de la freidora y, como tal, también estaban empapadas, ambos abadejos estaban secos y sin sabor en lugar de suculentos y frescos: esta noche fue probablemente la peor que he tenido en 30 años de visitando York. Desafiaría a cualquier ciudadano de esta ciudad a aprobar esto en su nombre.No volveré y qué lástima que fueras uno de los mejores.Consejos para los clientes, continúe hasta el semáforo, gire a la izquierda y un par de cientos de yardas por el carril es Tang Hall chippy, los olí recién cocinados a la hora del almuerzo, es donde estaré en la próxima visita, nada personal, mi dinero es bueno en cualquier lugar.

Por lo general, pescado y patatas fritas fantástico, desafortunadamente esta vez fue un desastre. Pedido por teléfono a la hora del almuerzo para recoger a las 17. 40 esa noche, comprenda que las cosas están muy difíciles en este momento, pero no ofrezca un servicio de pedido y recolección si no puede administrarlo. Me quedé de pie con mucha paciencia durante una hora y media, la gente a mi alrededor jurando, gimiendo por esperar su pedido, no hice nada de esto, solo recordé cortésmente al personal de mi pedido y seguí esperando. Las personas que habían llegado mucho después de mí comenzaron a recibir sus órdenes, después de esto decidí que el caos total obviamente no valía la pena. Si va a ofrecer un servicio, primero organícelo correctamente y no lo deje en manos de una tienda llena de hombres jóvenes para tratar con clientes enojados.

Pescado y papas fritas delicioso, pero para aquellos que prefieren alternativas, siempre hay una gran variedad en el menú de la casa, además del tamaño de la porción. la comida se puede comer o quitar. Habiendo visitado el Blufin muchas veces, nunca he tenido ocasión de quejarme. La comida presentada siempre se ha cocinado perfectamente, el tamaño de la porción, me gusta el especial de la hora del almuerzo, es muy bueno, el personal siempre es amable, profesional y eficiente. En mi opinión, un producto excelente a un precio excelente. Mi ir a arreglar pescado y patatas fritas.

York tiene una gran selección de lugares para comer, pero para pescado y papas fritas, este podría ser el mejor. Solía vivir en el camino desde este lugar, así que lo frecuentaba regularmente y nunca tenía una comida excelente.Los precios pueden ser un poco más altos que los estándares para pescado y papas fritas, pero dentro del promedio de York, tienen una selección de ofertas de comida que también compensa el costo. Personal amable, buenos tiempos de espera y buena comida. Una recomendación sólida de mi parte.

Llamé a nuestro té ya que estamos a las afueras de York en nuestra caravana. El personal era muy amable, las instalaciones estaban impecables y la comida era fantástica, teníamos bacalao, pasteles de pescado, patatas fritas, guisantes al curry y salsa todo recién preparado. Recomendamos a cualquiera que coma aquí en el restaurante o simplemente para llevar como lo hicimos nosotros

Fish and chips- chips were white still and hard,husband up all night with bad stomach. Chips fried in separate frier, also not cooked properly, pale and hard. Also up with bad stomach. Waste of money, will not go back. Also they are too expensive.

Después de ser un cliente para llevar durante unos años, con los propietarios originales, luego volver a visitar con ellos. La última visita, justo después de que se convirtió en Blue Fin, nada había cambiado mucho. Pero en mi última visita, el domingo 12 de mayo, el tamaño de la porción fue un 30 por ciento más pequeño de lo que hemos recibido anteriormente. Me temo que fue mi última visita. Las porciones de tamaño turístico pertenecen al centro de la ciudad. Pescado y patatas fritas son alrededor de 6. 50. Un buen filete de abadejo es de alrededor de 2. Salta aproximadamente 40 peniques por porción de papa. No es necesario reducir el tamaño de la porción. No hay nada malo con el servicio, o el sabor.

Lamento decirlo pero muy decepcionado con la comida que recibimos. Siento que deben usar papas de calidad inferior, ya que tuvimos que elegir las papas negras y magulladas, ¡y había muchas! El pescado estaba bien, pero la salchicha rebozada no era el mejor sabor.

Excellent f&C's ..... and for the first time in nearly 2 years, I can actually join in because of the gluten-free free option. Well impressed. Beautifully cooked, great service. Definitely recommend!

Visited for a takeaway the service was terrible. Just completely uninterested and it comes across rude. The food was not good. Soggy batter on the fish and average chips. Harper’s was a million times better. I don’t like leaving bad reviews but I was so annoyed I thought people should know. Waste of £20 will avoid in future.

Fish always nice same as everywhere else all batter little fish. However chips always luke warm. Live 2 minutes away yet always need to microwave. Also chip portion extremely small for the money come on potatoes very cheap, one scoop of chips leaves me feeling ripped off. Suggestion for blue fin wrap your food up don't just drop it in a bag. Most people dislike cold food.

Called in and had the lunchtime special. Fantastic quality and true value for money. Best I’ve had for a long time 👍

We ask for lightly battered haddock and lightly battered cod the batter was very soggy and cold very disappointing we won't be going again

Had a great fish and chip tea,battered Bass fillet wow just great would never deep fry such a soft fish but it really works.

Popped in for haddock and chips last week, I was impressed. York has a few good fish and chip shops, the Bluefin on Hull Road is one of them.

Second visit since the rebrand, I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Wish I hadn't, as both instances were pretty terrible.

I love fish and chips. I eat them a lot. I have visted this site many times when it was a harpers. I was worried that the quality may have slipped but I can report that quire the opposite ha happend. I have had three trips here so far and it won't bey last. The food is fantastic a.d is an improvement on harpers..good portion sizes and lovely fish.

Amazing food, lovely service. Will definitely be coming back for more. Great with the outside seating too...would give 6 stars if I could!!

Visited this chip shop today for lunch as it’s changed hands from Harper’s. The Chips were roar in the middle and my Fish batter was roar (white slime) Very dissatisfied will not be returning... 😕

Food is excellent, looks very clean and is reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and the service is quick.

The shop looks loads better than it did as harpers,it has the best food around and lovely staff especially Paige and gemma Will be returning regularly.
