My husband and I had dinner in the Blue Door Bistro twice during our stay at The Montague on the Gardens; Both times we had delicious meals: duck cottage pie, chicken noodle soup, potato and leek gratin, the McCarthy salad and wine. Everett the Supreme Commander has a very good knowledge of wine and food. We asked for Everett’s wine suggestions for our dinners. With a little input from us on our wine preferences generally speaking, Everett gave us excellent advice. The restaurant has a remarkable staff. We will be back.

Fabulous meal at the Blue Door Bistro where we celebrated Fathers Day with our family. Food was excellent, particularly Mrs Ts signature dishes, the service was great and the surroundings just made the meal. We were the only ones in the patio and yet it took 30' to get our food (5 of us). When we asked for clarifications on the menu such as ingredients of the accompanying sauce for the salad or which ones were the seasonal vegetables, she couldn't answer. While we appreciated to be left alone, we were literally left alone. While they had an internal lunch going on at the opposite side and they were all focused on it. Food was great though and I appreciated they had gluten free bread for me.

Although the menu choice was rather limited, my asparagus starter was delicious and other party members were particularly impressed with the crispy batter on the fish, the mushroom sauce accompanying the chicken and the rhubarb charlotte dessert.

Visited for dinner; the ambiance is satisfactory and the staff is friendly. Unfortunately, the chicken noodle soup lacked flavor and was watery. I wonder if It was flavoured with a single crumb of OXO cube. It lacked seasoning entirely. The "mini chicken pie" disappointed. The leak and potato soup were passable. The beef burger was okay but not on par with popular chain burger places like Honest, GBK, or Byron.

A wonderful dinner! Yes, it's a hotel restaurant and clearly an example of why you shouldn't discount them. The terrine was completely devoured, the fish and chips were the best we'd had during our trip, and the duck pie was rich and decadent. The cocktails were creative and so tasty, that we moved ourselves to the Leopard Lounge for an after dinner drink and a chance to listen to the live saxophonist. It felt like we'd stepped into a bit of a time warp. Utterly enjoyable. The overall cost of our evening was a bit steep, but that's on us for enjoying so many cocktails! Cannot wait to return.

Visited for afternoon tea. It’s a beautiful hotel (I sat in the small conservatory which was very calm and pleasant) and service is excellent. The tea was reasonably good value. I particularly enjoyed the artichoke sandwiches and the beautifully light and crisp mini scones. The cakes were very sweet, and didn’t really taste of anything beyond sugar. It would have been nice to maybe have a fruit tart or something with a bit of’bite’ to it. All in all though, a very enjoyable experience and I’d certainly like to return to the hotel.

We ate dinner the day we arrived at the Montague Hotel. We ordered the fish and chips and a chicken dish. The fish and chips were over-fried; the crust tasted burned. The chicken dish was better. This restaurant serves as the breakfast room for the hotel. The breakfast buffet has many choices, both hot and cold. For lunch, I had the Montague burger, which was two patties served in a brioche bun. It was good, but a very messy eat. The fried chicken sandwich had burnt crust. so I was hesitant re points - but the food was actually good, and that is the point of a restaurant. Good drinks, too. It's a hotel restaurant and already the hotel is a bit hidden - once you come in, it is very fancy indeed. But once you enter the restaurant from the lobby, fancedom radically declines. There is a bit of the old clubbish setup, Dorchester, Connaught, but of course it doesn't deliver that. Staff was mixed but the working waitresses were definitely friendly. The other customers were somehow very strange, in a truly odd way, seemingly inhouse guests, but ofc the hotel is not to be blamed for that. Yeah, the title encapsules it. Oh, it's not a cheap place of course, but then, why should it be.

The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the food was good (burgers / pasta). It was a little on the pricey side but not too bad and really nice quality. The wines were very expensive with the house bottles being at £37.50. The house white was particularly nice though. We shared a large tasty cheese cake.

We had agreed to meet some friends from Manchester for lunch in London on what proved to be a wet Sunday in February. We had been to the Blue Door previously for dinner and the lunch proved to be at least as good. The restaurant was not busy so the ambience was quieter than we had experienced before. The service was excellent - attentive but not pushy. The food was as before very good although the starter portions were on the small side given the cost. The main courses were very good. Two of the part had roast lamb rump which was beautifully cooked and presented. One had grilled sea bass, ditto. A Thai curry and ravioli were also pronounced excellent. There is a good wine list with a number of good wines available by the glass (their Picpoul is highly recommended) as well as a number of (very) fine wines also available. For those who prefer draught beers, there is a reasonable choice and the Coast to Coast can be recommended. This is not a cheap restaurant but in my opinion it is good value given the high quality of both food and service. We shall return. It is worth calling the restaurant to book a table directly especially if you have any kind of food allergy or prefer a quiet table.

I double checked the reviews I read prior to booking the Blue Door last night. There might be two but what I experienced last night was 1970s cuisine at its worst. A goat cheese salad served with a Parmesan crisp sounded lovely but in keeping with the 70s theme play spot the goats cheese and Parmesan crisp in the sea of garlic mayonnaise . Perhaps the greatest offence was the serving of the main courses, a prawn stroganoff, not just cold but a crust had formed on the basmati rice. The ambience was probably at it’s best in the 70s. Disappointing and a 25% discount for a main course served cold just not good enough especially when it was the manager himself who served the food and acknowledged after that the plates had felt cold. The area is full of good value little Mediterranean restaurants give them your custom and do not reward places like this.

The menu is small but varied, although vegetarians aren’t well catered for, and overall the menu lacked energy. It was a bit staid. Not so the staff, who were all accomodating and knowledgeable and gave advice about the food etc. To be honest it was over a week ago and I can’t really remember much about the meal. I know it satisfied my appetite and tasted good. No complaints. The standout was the hospitality offered by well trained staff. All credit to them.

While Everette was very nice, he was not actually a server as there were no actual servers until about an hour into our meal. When we did finally get servers they were very busy assisting a party of 8 next to us. We were the only two parties in the entire restaurant including ours. The food was horrible. I ordered from the preset menu, the scotch egg tasted like it was egg inside of a bread roll. The duck was so bloody, it left the taste of iron in my mouth. I am pregnant so I was very upset when I took a bite of the duck and realized how under-cooked it was. To be honest, even if I wasn't pregnant, I still would have been disgusted but not as concerned about the risk of eating raw poultry. I have had duck many times at many other high end restaurants. This was just bad cooking. At least if they are going to serve something raw or under-cooked, you should be notified, especially since I had brought it up to Everette and we had a full discussion about me being pregnant. When they brought the recooked duck back, I was so turned off from the first bite, I could not continue to eat. We took the dessert to go hoping maybe that would be better, but it was so bland and lacked flavor. Over 100 pounds later, leaving hungry and disgusted, I would not recommend this place to a starving homeless person if the meal was offered for free.

A beautiful restaurant with pedestrian food (if you're a vegetarian). The service was excellent and the staff very friendly. The view onto the garden is lovely! But the food was only OK. I was disappointed having read so many positive reviews. Maybe the meat dishes are better prepared? My salad was overpriced and fairly tasteless. The veggies in my pasta primavera were very fresh, but the preparation of the pasta--the flavoring of the sauce--was absent: it was basically grilled veggies and pasta and olive oil with a little parmesan tossed on top. A family sitting next to me allowed their toddler to play her video out loud at the restaurant, and the staff did not intervene. The family was friendly and the kid very cute--but it could have been a distraction for others, as it was, occasionally, for me.

I must say that my experience at lunch today was incredibly disappointing. I had been looking for a suitable place to enjoy a quiet lunch with my Grandmother before visiting an exhibition at the British Museum. Starting on a positive note, the staff were excellent at providing a pre-lunch Gin & Tonic in the hotel before we moved into the dinning room. Unfortunately after that things started to go down hill. The dinning room was deserted for lunch on a Saturday. As it later became apparent, this was intentional. Two groups of walk-ins were turned away and told that the restaurant was “fully booked” despite it only having only two people in it. This is a restaurant that clearly doesn’t want your business. On the food quality, I had ordered the fishcake starter which was to be served with a poached egg. The poached egg had been boiled to an inch of its life. The yolk was rock hard and going grey. I am not certain how such an error could occur in a restaurant that only had two diners. Further my Tuna from the Grill menu was barely cooked at all. Despite these issue the bill also proved challenging. Firstly, I had to remind them that our drinks had not been added to the bill. Secondly, despite the issues they had still had the nerve to add a 12.5% gratuity to the bill. At no point when we were leaving did they attempt to apologise. For those reading to the end of this review, do not visit this “non-restaurant”, they clearly do not value their customers.

We chose this place for dinner based on prior reviews as well as proximity to our hotel and were not disappointed. The restaurant is located within the Hotel Montague, a quaint, historic boutique hotel close to Russell Square and the British Museum. Unfortunately, the reservation...

Whenever we visit London we try to locate restaurants with good food in specific neighborhoods. We were very pleased to find the Blue Door Bistro next to the British Museum. The hotel + restaurant has a garden setting for nice weather and a lovely glass enclosed tea room. We were there for lunch but next time we will try dinner in the dinning room or a light lunch in the tea room. The service and the food were top quality.

The British Museum opens at 10 am. If you are up earlier than that, it may be a bit frustrating if you intend to visit. So why not have a full english breakfast buffet at the blue door bistro, which is just a stone's throw...

I think it is always difficult to run an hotel restaurant when the competition around is varied and very good. Nonetheless the Blue Door has some style and panache and a good menu at a reasonable price for the area. The Maire D'h is tremendously engaging...

A favourite haunt with consistently excellent standards of service. We had an early table and were a little disappointed that it took the food a long time to appear - it was quite a wait. However when it did arrive standard was excellent. Particularly recommend...

Arrived very early for our booking but we were received courteously and seated. Building lovely and the dining room was characterful and attractive. The bread served was a little hard I think it had stood uncovered. Our starters arrived in a good time after ordering...

Arrived 30 mins before booked time, no problem we were seated in an empty dining room which was very pleasantly decorated. Staff were charming and attentive. Menu gave a choice of a 3 course set price and a more extensive selection available from another menu. For starters I had the black pudding scotch egg and my wife chose the mushroom and truffle soup (served to look like cappuccino) Soup declared good but could not taste the truffle. The Scotch Egg was served cut in half and the edges of the pudding were hard, perhaps it stood under the lights of the pass too long, however it was tasty. Mains Fish with risotto and belly pork. The fish was cold and was sent back, the pork although not cold was not very hot but i kept it, when returned the fish was only marginally warmer. The pork was over cooked on the base to the extent that it had the constancy (and taste ) of wood. The young man serving us ? Smithman was obviously embarrassed about the meal and was most apologetic. Deserts, large piece of Cheese Cake and a cheese selection. Both very good. Mr Smithman and a senior member of staff took off the price of the main courses and made other adjustments to the bill. Although the food fell below par, the staff and the general ambiance of the restaurant was a pleasure and I will be prepared to try again.

A rare combination of old-fashioned, white tablecloth, elegant and discreet ambiance and service and well-chosen, well-prepared dishes. We came here once out of convenience and have returned several times with friends. Along with a visit to a theatre, it's one of our favorite ways to splurge when visiting London, and I hope to return again.

Excellent and original food. My husband had the mushroom cappuccino and I had pea omelette for starters. Wow great taste experiences. Then I had the Duck Cottage pie, different and brilliant and husband had pork belly. Too full for desserts.

Humble little pub tucked away near King’s Cross. I’ve become a regular for the great pint of Guinness here.
