The most obvious tea room on the promenade at Criccieth, painted in a vivid blue, this location will be familiar with many. We called in on a windy by warm bank holiday Sunday for drinks and cake. There was a decent selection of clearly home made food, and tbh I can understand why everything is served takeaway style. Whilst the cups are cardboard, the service is still friendly and the view is great. We really enjoyed our cakes whilst watching the surfer and paddle boarders in the bay from upstairs.

What happened to the blue and China.... Once upon a time this was a proper tea.... Now it's all take out cups, no plate just paper bags a disposable cutlery.. Cream tea, scone not as in size, stale and fake cream..... Not worth the £41 spent... Last money from me.... Avoid

The cafe inside is lovely. The waiting staff are friendly and efficient, always with a welcoming smile. I find it such a shame that no effort has been made with the flower pots outside, they contained only weeds! All of Criccieth, even the railway station, looks absolutely beautiful with flowers and hanging baskets everywhere, so why doesn’t the Blue Cafe at least put a few flowers in the pots, they do let themselves down with this, it really wouldn’t take much effort. Otherwise love this cafe.

In 1989 Blue China readily accepted my request for a special pastry for a surprise birthday tea. This summer they repeated the favour for a family of ten. On both occasions the response to the challenge was enthusiastic, the pastry deliciously perfect, and the service friendly and warm. Our thanks to the chef and to Mark, Gweno, Kelt and everyone else who made this memorable. And the tea is excellent.

I don't normally comment on other people's reviews but after all these years and reviews on TripAdvisor I am about to change that. Has Wendy D been on another planet for the last 18 months? The Blue China is operating safely under covid guidelines. The inside being much to small and 'quaint' to accommodate customers safely they have cleverly kept going by offering customers takeaway service that can be consumed in their out door area in safe disposable cups (not risky China that has to be touched by staff as well as patrons) So well done to this lovely little place ,great views ,nice coffee and good food served in a way that keeps both staff and customers safe.

After walking the full length of the beach we decided to have some refreshments. The Blue China Team Rooms is ideally placed. Our takeaway order was quickly served by a very pleasant hostess. We called in for an early Sunday lunch and were immediately greeted warmly. A lovely, unpretentious but attractive restaurant with fantastic coastal views. My husband had his eye on chicken in peppercorn sauce, which he had seen on the board outside, but not on the menu inside. We were told it was only on the evening menu but the kitchen was willing to prepare it for him! Guests were arriving by the minute, but the staff remained unflustered, cheerful and attentive. We popped into the Blue China tearoom whilst we were walking along the sea front. There were no cakes or scones on show on the counter which is a bit odd in a tearoom, we had to order off the menu, so we ordered hot chocolate a latte and chocolate cake. The hot choclate was like hot milk not much taste of any chocolate the latte was the same and the cake was disgusting, they had warmed it up to appear fresher than it obviously was, it honestly looked like dog mess, on a plate with a crack in it , we left the cake and left the tearoom, a complete waste of money. Having visited this eatery several times I must admit that today's visit was under par. We ordered two cappuccino coffees and the scone with jam cream and butter and a toasted tea cake as it was only midday. The coffee came out first and then we had a 15 minute wait for the rest of the order to come out by this time the drinks were luke warm. The teacake was hardly toasted at all so it was hard to digest in fact half was left uneaten. It would have been better if the order had come all together. At nearly 11 pounds it was not worth the money or the wait. Will not be returning.

We should have sent our whole order back as everything was just as poor. The latte and hot chocolate were both weak and tasteless. The chocolate cake was dry and crumbly. It had been warmed, melting the icing in an attempt to freshen it up...and failed! When settling the bill, only £1 was refunded off the £2.95 carrot cake of which we only had a taste.
